Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Re: Mind Blown
« on: August 16, 2011, 04:48:52 am »
I never noticed that they designed the Archipelago based off the map of 65,000,000 B.C. So even though this is already known it is a nice surprise to me!

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Re: Chrono Trigger Coming to Virtual Console
« on: July 28, 2011, 10:16:25 pm »
If I had a Wii system I might have bought this Virtual Console copy as well. Thankfully I never had any interested in the Wii and this isn't going to make me want to buy one.

General Discussion / Persona 2: Innocent Sin for the PSP!
« on: July 28, 2011, 09:57:26 pm »
Well surprise, surprise I just got an email detailing that Persona 2 Innocent Sin is finally being released here in English. As usual it is an improved remake, with remixes of the original soundtrack, improved interface, graphics, and new quests. That doesn't mean you will have to listen to the new music if you don't like it. That means they are giving you the option to play the game in either the remix soundtrack or the original!

Personally I have been waiting for this game for quite a while to be released here. So I'm definitely going to get it the first chance I get.
For those of you who are interested, here is a link to the main website and an article about what is currently known.

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Re: Games which are similar to Chrono Trigger
« on: July 19, 2011, 07:58:52 pm »I wouldn't say the Golden Sun series is akin to Chrono Trigger, but they do have that SNES-era nostalgic feel. And they're great games! The gameplay of a traditional JRPG with the puzzle elements of a Zelda game... Can't recommend the series highly enough!
The Golden Sun series is a classic RPG, it was one of the few games that stood out during the GBA period.

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Re: Chrono Cross PSP?

Been looking forward to playing Chrono Cross on my PSP now it will happen. I wonder if they are really doing this to see if there is any interest in the series.

Radiant Historia seems to be a game I would play, even without mentioning it potential of being similar to Chrono Trigger. Also Xenogears is a wonderful game and that is saying something, since a good part of the game was cut out near the end.
I'll have to see about picking up a copy of Radiant Historia now that my interest in it has been piqued.

General Discussion / Re: Understanding Square Enix
« on: July 15, 2011, 05:37:01 pm »I'm sure the other Compendiumites could explain this better than me, so I'll be brief. See, when I last applied to a company for employment they wanted to test put my artistic skills to test, and asked me to decipher the meaning behind their previous logo (of course, I passed the test). One question they asked me was what did green symbolize in their logo, and I explained what the color in general could symbolize in general (ranging from nature, to ecosystem, to human emotions) and in what the company stands for. But they told me this:
"But you forget one most important factor that the color Green stands for: it is money. Economy. No matter what your belief is about the world's industries, every corporation's first and foremost intention is to become successful standing pillar of economy. Without money, a corporation fails to function."
...Or something along those lines. I do remember that they called me A Man Of Vivid Dreams, but they refused to employ me only because my ideals might disrupt their newly standing company.
To a really large corporate usually public relations don't matter, but their statistics do. Hype creates demand, which causes supply, and the Media industry is pretty good at pulling things out. They play a wretched "Stick and Bone" game, eliminating any possible hindrances to their sales without a second thought, then releasing (or in this case, milking) editions and franchises to boost their sales. Because obviously, if a game is good, even the company-haters buy it.
That is pretty much spot on for the current stat of Square-Enix. They are a corporation with one goal in mind and that is making money. I haven't seen a decent game from them in a while and it seems I might not any time in the future.

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Re: Chrono Trigger X GOD PROJECT DEBUTS!!
« on: July 15, 2011, 05:20:28 pm »Welcome to the biggest surprise of the year! This is none other than the GOD PROJECT, the one to end all others! It's...
Planned in secret by a cadre of the best and most trusted fans, Chrono Trigger X is a scream from the underground that will catapult Square Enix face-first into Mars. We're taking the fallen legacy of the series and punching back to life with extreme vigor and zeal. This is nothing like you've seen before; it's a project of such incredible scope and size that Chrono Trigger will dominate even television news by the time we're finished. We all know Square Enix has dropped the ball so hard it's created an EXTINCTION-EVENT size crater. Horrible games like Final Fantasy XIV; horrible franchise reboots; horrible cash-ins, and horrible characters like fucking asshole Tidus or Oerba dia Vanille. Whatever Chrono Break was planned to be will have NOTHING on this.
Square-Enix doesn't seem to really care for the Chrono franchise, well other than an occasional re-release or threatening a lawsuit o some fans infringing on their IP. So go for it!
It might be a better solution than Square-Enix in it's current state trying to revive it.

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Re: 11 years later... No sequels...
« on: July 15, 2011, 05:06:42 pm »With the recent DS and upcoming VC and PSN releases, it's abundantly clear that Square Enix is testing the market. What better way to gague interest in an 11 years dead series than to re-release the first game and see how it sells? If you really want another Chrono title, there's only one thing to do: Buy all the versions of Chrono Trigger/Cross.
There is a slight problem with the current releases of Chrono Trigger on the DS, it seems unless it sold a set amount they didn't consider it a success. Now bear in mind this is what was said prior the announcement of it being release on the PSN, but that does nothing to alleviate my concerns. I have seen a trend in how they are treating their IPs and it isn't reassuring on how they will develop another Chrono game if at all.
I wouldn't mind a release of Chrono Cross on the PSP, but I'm not going to blindly buy the game on all the platforms just for a chance for another Chrono game. There is no reason to support the development of the game if it is devoid of what made it's predecessor's great. Just so Square-Enix make more money while disappointing their fan-base..
This post isn't really a direct reply to you Ciphermind, but rather my thoughts on how Square-Enix operating in a self-destructive way.

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Re: Chrono paraphernalia you wish existed.

Perhaps an item like an amulet involving the Frozen Flame would make an interesting piece of paraphernalia as well. Honestly anything involving the Frozen Flame in one form or another would be nice.

General Discussion / Re: Video Game Discussion Thread
« on: August 16, 2010, 10:44:51 pm »
Well surprise, surprise there is another Bioshock game currently being made. Though this one isn't going to be featured in Rapture like the first and second one thankfully. Not that I disliked Rapture but I couldn't imagine another major plot taking place in that city. Rather this one takes place in a city that is in the air! I do not know much about it besides what little I have seen in the trailer but it looks to be quite interesting. Check the trailer out in the link below if you are curious about it.

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Re: Anyway how to get to the Max level ( With no mods ) on Chrono Trigger?
« on: August 15, 2010, 02:42:30 pm »
From what I can remember I got to level 99 on my first play-through just killing various creatures in the DS version. All I did a grind on the Nu in 600 AD for my techs while taking my time in certain areas killing other creatures. Getting to level that isn't to hard just a bit time consuming, but if you played the game enough you will find ways to make it quicker. Like having certain equipment that helps speed it along or making it easier like gold studs and such. You could also use the Arena of Ages if you have the DS versions to gather capsules to boost your magic, speed, and strength. While you are doing that you would also might find some decent equipment from there.

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Re: Chrono paraphernalia you wish existed.
« on: August 10, 2010, 09:49:20 pm »A complete Chrono Trigger orchestral soundtrack. Like the two-track CD included with CTDS, only for the whole thing.
That should be done for any game that has an great soundtrack.
Now what I would love to have is a nicely designed Lavos/Time Devourer figurine. So far I haven't seen anything quite like it anywhere on the net much to my disappointment. It would just be quite awesome to have a little figurine of Lavos/Time Devourer on my desk just for the sake of nostalgia. Though who ever managed to create a figurine of the Time Devourer, I would hope they managed to make it seem like it was floating just as in the game.

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Re: Obsidian Wants to Work on Chrono Trigger
« on: August 08, 2010, 08:07:06 am »
At this point I'm sure that fans of the Chrono series would like to see any new development of a game. Though I would be slightly hesitant about one being developed without any influence from some of main figures of the Dream Team. R Obsidian is a decent developer for games that already have an established setting and I would love to see their take on it. Still to me this seems very unlikely from ever happening. Since even Square-Enix just seems so adamant about ignoring the Chrono franchise except to make some extra money with ports.
