"Overweight" and "Obese" people also tend to live longer than their "Skinny" counterparts. Also known as the "Obesity Paradox". I'm sure you know but I didn't see it mentioned.

« on: November 10, 2009, 08:44:24 am »I'm too shy, too self-conscious, too solitary, too distrustful, etc. etc. etc. I don't know if the death of this friendship is my doing or theirs, but I really did try to rekindle it this semester. And I failed miserably, apparently.
Most people are not worth the time and most people who call each other friends are far from it. 'Friend' is an overused term that has lost its meaning, just like 'love' and 'sorry'. This person was only ever 'someone you knew', never a friend; just someone passing by, so I wouldn't get hung up on it. There was nothing to rekindle, so claiming to fail at something that never was in the first place, just isn't possible. Having a 'friend' these days is just another way of showing a notch in the "i-am-so-popular-look-at-all-the-friends-i-have" belt.

Crazy theory?: It is so hard to change health care in the US because they want the average life span to be low, because the infrastructure (and is barely there today as is) is not there to handle people that can get even older than they are now.

My frustration is that it seems to be taking so much effort, with seemingly half the country kicking and screaming like toddlers, to give some level of health care to those who don't have it. My god. These idiots fight so hard for the unborn and its "right to life", but then as soon as the damn creature sees the light, they back the fuck off and say "you are on your own!".

I've always considered a RPG as a game where you get 'experience points', 'level up' and get better equipment. Zelda games, except for Zelda II, are adventure games from my perspective, and great ones at that.

I believe it has already been proven true, that the more intelligent you are, the greater the likelyhood of being an atheist.
I have no idea on the validity of this site but it seems to have studies and the like to possibly prove it.

Perhaps this is just the result of the likeliest of outcomes being the outcomes assumed by time. Things don't have to go that way, but unless the shadows of these events remain unchanged...
Could it be said that the future doesn't exist and therefore is not set? What I mean is that when Crono et al travel to 2300, they aren't going from 1000 to 2300 directly, as in point A to point Z but they are travelling along A to B to C...to Z but with a time differential in place. Within the gates/Epoch they are within a time differential that pockets Crono and crew in 'normalized' time while greatly speeding up (that is, fast forwarding) the timeline (travelling to 2300) or inverting (rewinding) the timeline (travelling back to 1000).
I don't know if timetravel is really thought of as A to B to C....to Z (here at the CC) but I used to always think of it as A to Z and Z to A, until recently anyway.
About predestination, specifically each time one travels to the future, back to the past/present and then back to the future, does everything happen the same way each time or do/can things change? For (a minor) example, a person in 1200 chooses to go to the bar one day and is killed in a bar fight, would this happen everytime Crono travels to the future or could it change each time (without Crono mucking up the timeline)? I suppose this would only be a problem with the "time-differential-time-travel theory" since time fast forwards to Z each time. With the A to Z time travel, I would assume that Z, is always the same based on the most probable course of events between A and Z.
So in a sense, predestination could very well be a part of the Chronoverse (with A to Z time travel), just as much as free will.

The way I see it, most people don't like to 'just' give away money. People who participate in 24-hour relays and other task related events are practically 'working' for the donation money. The participants are 'working' on behalf of the donees. 'Just' giving away money sounds like giving a 'hand out', a phrase and action that is well stigmatized in the US.
They also foster a sense of community, are funner and are more social than just going door to door, calling over the phone etc. People like to get out, get together and do stuff. A lot of them have food and drink donated as well, which in turn lures more people to the event.
Though one thing that does piss me off is the act of receiving a trinket for donating. Braclets, stickers, pins etc It's like a badge to let people know "I am wearing a braclet. I donated. I am a good, decent person." How about you just donate and leave it at that, knowing in your heart that at the very least, you did something. While no doubt relatively small, the amount of money that could go to whatever the cause may be, I am sure adds up quick. If you want a 'badge of honour', go help with something tangible, like helping with a house or cleaning up the neighbourhood etc. At least then you can say "I helped build that house" instead of walking around, head held high because of some cheap trinket pinned to your chest.
