Crimson Echoes / Re: Where's the latest ROM?
« on: November 09, 2007, 09:23:45 pm »
Sorry about the delay. I'm working on the aforementioned maps right now. I've got {0A0} done for the most part. I left the line of bushes intact since I'm not sure what they're supposed to be used for. The leftmost bush I removed though.

Working on the others now. I don't know how much I'll get done tonight.

*edit*
Wow, just loaded {0F5}. This is gonna take some work! Haha.

I apologize for not having spoken sooner. As Zeality shows, I last logged in on October 5th. That's not entirely true, as I do peruse the front page of the Chrono Compendium fairly regularly on my rounds, once every two or three days as of late. I know I saw the Chrono Crisis art on the 31st, because I remember how wowed I was by it.

I would still like to help out with CE, since it's rather discouraging to see it placed in the Abandoned Projects section of the Fan Projects page. The problem is... firstly, I don't have Temporal Flux installed. Not a big issue there, takes me all of 5 minutes. I'm also completely rusty in how TF works in terms of its map editors, but that's nothing a couple hours of mucking around with can't fix for the most part.
The biggest issue for me for contributing to CE, is that I know jack about scripting in TF, and unfortunately it's scripting that takes up the bulk of time and effort in a game.

So... for me to do anything, I need to be told what we'd like to have done. Before what I did was take existing, rough maps, and work them to add detail, flair, and overall finishing touches - specifically the Truce Guardhouse. That kind of thing I really enjoy, and would like to do as well, but... again, that requires semi-finished maps, etc, etc.

I am here. I do still poke around from time to time. I would like to help, but I need some clear and concise direction with how to help. As well, if anyone ever needs to get in contact with me, please feel free to fire off an email to my Gmail account: kaelitz(at)gmail(dot)com, because I check that daily.

Special Event Polling / Re: Rate Cross Characters 3: Fargo
« on: July 31, 2007, 07:30:15 am »
Design:
Not much to add besides what has already been said. Fargo appears relatively benign upon first glance, but his looks hide a dangerous and rather impressive character beneath.

Combat:
Haven't used Fargo a lot since I go for the whole Serge, Kid, Glenn triad when I can, but when you lose those allies as Lynx, Fargo is definitely there to pick up the slack. From the ever-useful ability to steal (and thus obtaining various things like the plates from the dragons), he adds utility. As well, he can definitely hold his own in a battle, and is certainly better suited to take punishment than most of your allies.

Tilt:
He's a pirate. He doesn't take crap from anyone. He's got his own ship. He also kicked his own ass in Home, and smacked some sense into his shameful counterpart by hijacking the S.S. Zelbess. And all this is discovered through the linear progression of the plot, thus giving the player more exposure to Fargo as a whole. Definitely one of the better characters in Cross.

Judging from the fact that I actually enjoy choosing to have Fargo in my party when I need replacements for my usual crew, I'm giving him an A.

That's fantastic! I think it really fits. :D

Figured this would be the best place to post instead of making a new thread.

I'm still here for map-making purposes. I haven't mucked around in TF for months, but it shouldn't be too difficult to get back into the swing of things. I've actually been around fairly regularily (I load up my Compendium bookmark when passing time online), but I just haven't been logged into the forums.

General Discussion / Re: ReBoot
« on: March 01, 2007, 04:24:01 pm »
I watched right up until the awful cliffhanger where they left the series. The quality of the later episodes really was very well done, with facial expressions etc.

SPOILERS (Highlight to read):
I thoroughly enjoyed the whole Daemon saga in ReBoot. The fact that someone could be infected to become her perfect puppet with just a touch from her was incredible. Plus, MainFrame was the hub of resistance to her. Loved the scene between Matrix and Frisket, after MainFrame was infected. At the end though, who'd have thought it was going to be Hex that saved 'em all? I like to see Bob's view that a virus could be redeemed come true, but it certainly makes me sad that Hex was gone from then on out -- she was one of my favourite characters, with her insane sense of humour.
And yeah, MegaByte again, except really frakking powerful now. Infiltrating the Principal Office, and in control of MainFrame with no real evident salvation in sight! God I wish ReBoot wasn't cancelled. It was filled with good humour and pop culture references, which is rare in a kid's show.

*shrugs* I make no claim to know or understand everything going on in newsrooms around the globe. I was merely expanding upon the point in the article.

General Discussion / Re: Baten Kaitos

In regards to Gibari, I believe his line in the opening movie is the same with both the old voice actors as well as the new ones, so what he says is a moot point.

And as for Chaotic Dance 2, I'll have to wait and see. I have a high tolerance for highly annoying things, as evident by the fact that even though I don't like them at all, I still play through the game with voice acting on, so I can see myself being able to tolerate Chaotic Dance 2 if it's really as irksome as you say. As for the first soundtrack, I'd have to say that Violent Storm, The True Mirror ~Guitar~, and To the End of the Journey of Glittering Stars (in no particular order) would the best tracks from it. I love listening to all of those tracks immensely.

It's great. =] My only complaint is the voice acting, which, in quite a few cases, is painful.
Oh, you mean like Xelha, for the whole friggin' game? ;)
To be honest I could stand most of the voice acting. Kalas' was kind of cheesy, and Lyude's just sounded like it was a terrible voice actor doing it (ESPECIALLY after seeing the intro in May 2004, linked below -- Lyude's voice in that is fantastic, as are all of the characters'). Savyna's I think fit especially well, and Mizuti, well, she's just so bizarre any voice could fit. Gibari's voiceovers were done fairly well as well I'd have to say, though some points sounded strained.

I haven't actually beaten Baten Kaitos yet. My party was severely underlevelled because I avoided fights like the plague -- not because they took long, but because I was so dead-set at getting through the story because I enjoyed it immensely. As such, my save file is still at the point at which you climb the steps at the final dungeon (name escapes me at the moment) and fight the final boss at the top. He's nasty as hell though, especially that arrow that hits you with like every status ailment.

I do actually want to try BK:Origins, because if it's at all like its predecessor in terms of story or characters, then I'm sure I'll love it. I've got a friend with it and I'll probably ask to borrow it once I can hook up my Wii (as in, being able to hook it up to the TV which currently has nowhere to go in my room). Suffice to say, Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean was severely underrated, and while the voice acting makes you wish you could hear nails on a chalkboard, the game is designed extremely well in all other aspects.

And definitely, I echo the sentiment in this thread, that my hat is off to Motoi Sakuraba for the musical score. I knew it was going to be fantastic when I first heard 'The True Mirror' in gameplay footage. Add the fact that BK:EWatLO was released relatively close to Tales of Symphonia, which Sakuraba also composed for, fantastically, and that very quickly put Motoi Sakuraba very high up in my books for fantastic composers.

...I hate you all! I really want to play Baten Kaitos again! But I have nowhere to set up my GameCube or Wii! :(

*EDIT*

After Googling and YouTubing, why couldn't the English voices have stayed like this? If you want to see and hear a higher resolution, IGN still has the May 2004 video available. It's the 'Opening FMV. May 3, 2004'.

I've actually read a similar article titled Scientists cure cance, but no one takes notice. The only point I'd have an issue with is that in the article I read, there were no sources cited. However, it brings up a good point why it may not be all over big news networks, depending how far you read into the "amagawd, big corporations are evil" shtick (and we've all heard terrible things about the American drug companies... :\ ), and that is this:

Here's the big catch. Pharmaceutical companies probably won't invest in research into DCA because they won't profit from it. It's easy to make, unpatented and could be added to drinking water. Imagine, Gatorade with cancer control.

So, the groundwork will have to be done at universities and independently funded laboratories. But, how are they supposed to drum up support if the media aren't even talking about it?

Either way, this is intriguing.

Site Updates / Re: Tanaka: No Chrono in Development
« on: February 01, 2007, 06:16:22 am »
I've gotta say, this is pretty disappointing to hear. The older the Chrono games get, the more I want a new one to come out. Cross left us with at least a few unanswered questions, and I would love to see those addressed in a sequel. Or, perhaps an offshoot of the Zeal timeline (I'm sure something could be devised to give a branch away from the inevitable Ocean Palace incident), since everyone holds Zeal in such a high regard.

The thing is, is that they don't have to get every single person who worked on Chrono Trigger or Cross to come back together to make sure the game doesn't lose its 'Chrono feel.' First and foremost I'd say that Kato and Mitsuda would have to work on it, and with Mitsuda currently doing freelance, it wouldn't be hard to get him. Kato works at S-E now too, so it'd just be a matter of finding space in the future to begin the project too. Other names elude me at the moment, but my point is is that Cross didn't have all of the Dream Team, and it was still pulled off arguably flawlessly, so who's to say that couldn't be done again?

Firstly, if this is in the wrong forum feel free to move it please. :)

I know there's been some discussion and feelings whether or not S-E has effectively put the Chrono series on the backburner indefinitely and thus forgotten about it, but there's at least one recent sign that they're still aware of it. It comes from another S-E game.

If anyone has Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime for the Nintendo DS (awesomely fun game, by the way. Get it if you can), you'll know about tank battles. If not, a brief description. Aside from the sort of Zelda-esque gameplay, there are occasionally battles between the main hero and enemies that involve giant tanks. In the intro screen for each tank battle, it gives a name to each tank, as well as a pun in the short description. Now, this is where the thread is going.

One of the enemy tanks that you fight on occasion that is run by moles, I believe, is called the Chrono Twigger. It has the same style of text as the Chrono Trigger logo, including the wavy italicized text on "Twigger." Maybe I'm reading too much into this, and it's just an Easter Egg for long time S-E fans, but it was put in intentionally, which tells me that S-E still has Chrono on their minds. Perhaps there's some hope after all?

-Edit-

The next time I encounter that tank I'll try to recall the description of it.

Chrono Trigger: Prophet's Guile / Re: Banners and a new palette
« on: January 07, 2007, 05:06:02 pm »
Experimenting with Kajar's tileset, if it's shifted to 4B from 46, it gets a very dark feel. The only thing out of place are the stairs colours which are a vibrant teal...

I'll keep looking.

*Edit*
Ooooooh. Shifting it to 51 makes it an almost complete monochrome set, which is very nice. There only seems to be a few rogue tiles (IE: plants, healing square) that look weird.

2E shifts it to an interesting gold/black combination as well.

22 shifts it to a combination of dark walls, tables, and bookcases. However, the floors are a bright yellowish-orange.

1A also looks similar to 46. They both have a Black Omen-type feel.

Chrono Trigger: Prophet's Guile / Re: Mapping
« on: January 06, 2007, 07:44:06 pm »
In case it's a problem of procedure, what I do is doubleclick the file, press import, and save.
I've tried that and highlighting the file and pushing the "Select" button (or is it "Open?" No matter).
But that's a bit simple, so I suppose it's something else...I'll try to reexport perhaps.
I don't think it's an issue with the export, since Nightmare can load it up readily enough. Does its location on the hard drive have any impact, do you figure? Because I've got my folders organized in such a way that it's two directories in in relation to the ROM.

Chrono Trigger: Prophet's Guile / Re: Mapping

I'd love to work on it as well.
This is probably really silly, but I haven't used Temporal Flux in quite some time, and I'm having a problem importing the file. I load up the ROM, then File > Import, browse and select Zeality's Flux file, and it doesn't seem to recognize it. There's no information in the import window in TF, and I've checked and it didn't change any of the Mt. Woe map files.

Either way, I chalk this up to my TF inexperience. :|

Do you have TF 2.00 still? 2.00 can't handle 2.50 or above export files, so that might explain it.
Nope. TF 2.55.
