You beat me to it, I was just going to post this!

I'd take anything, but it's been ported so many times, I'd much rather they remake it to some capacity.

As much as I'd love a full FF7 Remake style thing, I can't imagine them sinking the time and budget into that after putting out nothing but ports with small alterations for the last 20+ years...

No bombshells or anything, but interesting to see them still talking about it in 2023.

Interesting if that translation is accurate - I always interpreted Tokita's comments more as "we used some elements from "Break". This sounds more like they took the proposed premise of Break and reworked it into a mobile Final Fantasy game?

Makes me want to play it...though I can't say I'm excited about a $15 game for my phone...

Chrono News / Re: Chrono Trigger HD-2D remake rumors

I mean at this point, nearing the end of the Switch lifecycle, maybe we're looking at a Switch 2 release. Assuming this project is real that is, which I honestly don't think it is considering Zippo's track record, where's the Kid Icarus Uprising Switch re-release bro?

He's hit and miss. He's certainly talked about some Kid Icarus and Donkey Kong games that never materialized, but he's been right about a bunch of stuff too.

- Said a new 2D Mario game was coming before Wonder was announced.
- Said a new 2D Sonic game was coming before Sonic Superstar was announced.
- Said a Paper Mario Thousand Year Door remake was coming before it was announced.
- Was correct about Persona 3/4/5 coming to Switch

Who knows. I'm not holding my breath, but I can't imagine it will be graphically intensive for any platform unless it ends up being a from-the-ground remake.

It could by multi-platform for current-gen and next-gen.

Correct. The rumor here is that it's an HD-2D styled remake. Every one of those in existence have easily ran on the current Switch. (Octopath Traveler 1+2, Triangle Strategy, Live a Live remake, etc)

What's the consensus on Super Mario RPG's soundtrack revamp? I don't think I kept a single tune from it. Somehow, they completely lost the rockabilly edge of "...And My Name Is Booster" with the choices. Between that and the Sonic Superstars debacle, it kind of leaves me worried, although I guess a CT remake would definitely feature Mitsuda coming back.

I know they brought back the original composer for it, and left the option to use the original soundtrack if desired, so I don't think we'd have anything to worry about if they followed that lead. (Though I don't believe any original staff returned for that one outside of the composer...)

We'll just have to wait and see. The leaker only said that it was in development, they didn't know when it was going to be announced.

A Nintendo Direct will happen soon, maybe, if the remake is real, it will be announced there?

One was announced for September 14, 2023, at 10:00am EST, FYI.

Not news worthy yet, but could be if it turns out to be true. A leaker states that a Chrono Trigger remake in the HD-2D art style is in the works. They've been right about things in the past, but wrong about other things too. Something to keep an eye out for.

I'm working through my second playthrough, and I've noticed plenty of rewordings, but nothing that really changes any meaning to anything.

Are you able to upload the new script? I'd still find it interesting to look through...

Wow, this completely flew under my radar too. Was this Japan only?

So, Chrono Cross Remastered isn't quite a full re-translation, but there are a lot of tweaks and wording changes.

Are we tracking/documenting changes anywhere? If so, I'd appreciate it someone would point me in that direction. If not, then I was thinking of starting to document it in this thread. (I'm contemplating doing a replay of Remastered at some point here sooner or later.)

Confirms that Serge FMV in Termina wasn't in fact based on any certain plot point, despite most parts of the FMV being part of the plot.

This article says there's a new post credits scene if you beat both Chrono Cross and Radical Dreamers?!?

I didn't read it because of spoilers and I'm still working through the game, but you can read the first half of the article before it goes into the clearly marked spoilers.

Maybe, but there seems to be other differences. Earlier in the thread there's a quote that Kid said slightly different. And I could have sworn some of the early dialogue with Una was different too...

Quote from: Una (Original)
Don't tell her I said
so, but my sister's
a bit uptight, you know?
Could you, like, break
her in a little? You know,
make her act a little
more ladylike?

Quote from: Una (New)
Don't tell her I said
so, but my sister's a
bit too quick to lash out.
Could you, like, make
her be a little nicer
to me?

Thank you, that's exactly what I was referring to. It stood out to me since I always thought her request to "break her in a little" and "make her more ladylike" was a bit weird/awkward phrasing to ask of a teenage boy... and now it's not there anymore. Not that I'm complaining, the new wording probably makes more sense. I wonder if it's a more or less faithful translation? Or they thought it was weirdly worded.

About the "secret savings" line change...that could be a bug or mistake, as that variant originally displayed when using a different party leader.

One of the first things I checked for in videos was the name of the Arni restaurant/bar, as it turned out that the names we know (and therefore, the only mention of the chef's name) were a product of localization. For the remaster, they didn't recreate those background edits in the videos I've seen, so they've been reverted to the English text originally used in the Japanese version.

Maybe, but there seems to be other differences. Earlier in the thread there's a quote that Kid said slightly different. And I could have sworn some of the early dialogue with Una was different too...
