Fan Project News/Updates / The Wait Continues
« on: March 22, 2009, 11:01:05 pm »
For those of you who missed the January update on the Chrono Trigger Novel Project website, the detailed presentation packet that was in the works for quite some time was finally sent to the corporate office of Square-Enix.  This brings us to today's update:

Naturally, as discussions ensue with Square-Enix about the fate of this project as we know it, updates and activity are fairly sparse.  The main thing that everyone is looking for is that next big update, the answer to the question: will they say yes or no?  While that determination is being made, I've decided to start what will hopefully be an interesting discussion in the CTNP Forum, which basically focuses around one central question: Should the "unthinkable" happen, what do you think the CTNP should do next?  This is a project that has existed in some capacity now for over 12 years and has positioned itself as a regular, well-known part of the Chrono community.  It is, in fact, the longest standing project still maintaining an active status and following.  Therefore, I've decided that putting this question out there publically is an entirely appropriate thing to do, regardless of what happens in the end.  For this, please refer to two locations in the forum: one for general discussion and one for a poll (be sure to go to both).

Since many of the visitors here may prefer to discuss it in the Compendium forum, I'm fine with that, too (despite my usual preference to try and keep discussions in one place).  I do ask that everyone at least take the poll.  However, this is mostly a discussion that will need to take place amongst the community with limited direct involvement from me, due to the current situation.  Furthermore, please note that this entire subject is only for interesting interim conversation.  In no way is it meant to signify any response or actual planned direction for the project.  Thanks to everyone for their involvement!

In the process of preparing our presentation documents package for Square-Enix, several relatively minor (though some significant) updates have been made to the Demo Chapters (Chapters 2-5) of the Chrono Trigger Novel.  If you haven't read them in the past or just have an itch to do so again, you'll want to download the new Demo Release 5.

"Finalized" drafts of Chapters 1-7 have also just been released to a group of individuals for the project's first "beta read."  Most of these individuals are self-proclaimed readers and not current fans of the game, though at least one is an old fan.  Through this effort, printed forms of these chapters have been distributed with special note pages so that the readers can jot down their thoughts and reactions as they read through the text.  Following this process, which is slated to end by August 11, all notes will be gathered and used to make any final changes (if necessary) to these chapters before sending them as part of the SE package.

For those of you who have read Chapter 4 of the Demo Chapters, you know that the two captive soldiers (Ian and Jonas) in Manoria Abbey have been given more active roles in the novel.  To personify them along with the rest of the Chrono Trigger cast, I have called upon my friend Miqe to create character portraits for these and other characters who don't already have this particular honor.  Below are the fully colored portraits of both Ian and Jonas.  Portraits of more characters are also on the drawing board, including Fritz Grancourt, Elaine Bellecote, Marle's maidservant Mary, and Pierre Levasseur.

Finally, some speculation has begun about Square's sudden trademark of the name "Echoes of Time."  Is this simply a subtitle for the upcoming Nintendo DS release, does this point to a possible new game in the series, or is it completely unrelated?  Only time will tell, though we'd love to hear your thoughts at the CTNP forum (as well as the Compendium's, I'm sure).  See the article here.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from all of us at the CTNP!  In keeping with the Christmas spirit, please enjoy this presentation by Linus van Pelt, friend of Charlie Brown.

Now, getting to the update (wow, it's been a while, hasn't it?), we've got lots of new stuff.  In fan submissions, we have finally received Alejandro's sixth installment to the exclusive "Fourth Relevant Truth" fan-fiction series, as well as an English translation of Crono Bird's rendition of the first chapter of Chrono Trigger, told as a first-person narrative.  We have a new addition to the fan art page (Magus fans beware: you won't like it).  And, we have added a brand new and wholly unique section called "Fan Craft," which was inspired by the CTNP Handbag sent in by MagusChild.  We'd love to see more creative fan crafts like this one!

We are very proud to announce our affiliation with DreamAuthentics, our first official corporate affiliate and a truly awesome company specializing in personal video arcade cabinets.  Check out their information here.  Also be sure to check out their ranking in the Top 10 Holiday Geek Gifts for the 2007 season.

The CTNP will be making its second appearance at MAGFest 6, taking place January 3-7, 2008 in Alexandria, VA.  Jeremy ("Pezman"), Committee and Editorial Team member, will represent the project during the event.  We're very excited to be hosting an event this year, which will be a dramatic reading of one of the Demo Chapters that Saturday (1/6) at 11am.  This will be something to see, and we're doing what we can to be sure this event gets recorded.  If we can pull it off, it will definitely make its way to the site.

Finally, we have some general updates.  Of particular importance are updates to our petition and support pages.  First, the petition is now being considered a supplemental part (as opposed to the sole part) of "Operation Ultimate Victory," which has been redefined as a specific strategy leading to the project's success.  OpUV essentially encompasses our strategy and efforts leading to the successful completion of this project.  This effort reflects the current strategy of the project, which scales back a bit from our previously heavy focus on the petition.  Of course, we still want people to sign, but we are no longer committing so many resources solely to this effort (this includes removal of the prize structure), because we feel that there are other matters of greater importance.  More details about the whole OpUV effort can be viewed here.  Other updates have been made to the Committee, Support Team, and Petition Info pages.

And, to top it all off, we have a new poll in Wayne's Question about Frog's speech in the novel.  Enjoy!

« on: September 23, 2007, 07:23:12 pm »
Don't think you can get your petition to us in the mail?  That's okay, because petitions that are scanned and emailed are just as acceptable!  For the Wii contest, petitions will still be accepted throughout the week, both by post and email.  So, don't delay any further.  This chance won't come again!  Send your scanned petitions by email to novelist@chronotrigger.info.

Fan Project News/Updates / Only 1 Week Left to Win a Wii!
« on: September 16, 2007, 06:47:37 pm »

What is most likely your best chance ever to win a free Nintendo Wii in a contest is about to expire!  All petition envelopes must be postmarked by September 23, the first day of autumn (in the USA).  So, now it's crunch time.  It's still possible to get the required number of signatures in a week!  If you plan to go to a gathering, a church service (don't interrupt the sermon!), an outing, a wedding, classes, or anyplace else with lots of people, you've got it made!  Knock on doors down your street, pitch a table outside of your favorite store or in a mall (with permission, of course)--just do what it takes to get that Wii!  (And, remember, even after the contest is over, the regular OpUV prize structure will remain in effect.  You automatically reach the first prize level just by qualifying for this contest, so you're guaranteed a prize!)

     FOR THE CONTEST:
     Get the contest info HERE
Get your petition forms and OpUV login HERE
Get the Demo Chapter Package HERE
Get the Novel & Demo Chapter Survey HERE

And, just like that, you'll be in the running for a brand new Nintendo Wii!  Good luck!

I've cooked up a few updates for all of you who have been waiting patiently for more than a month. First off, I have written an article entitled "Bagging 50 Signatures: Easy as Saying 'I Do,'" which offers some simple but great pointers for everyone trying to get a start on their signatures for the Wii contest. You can get to this by clicking on the Articles page of the project site. Another piece of letter art from MagusChild has been added to the Letter Art page, this time with a nice side profile of Lucca. A new poll has also been added to the Wayne's Question page to get your opinion on the size of the Chrono world (as in the planet itself). Please participate in that, as I'd love to hear everyone's opinions.

And, in other news, CTSite's counter surpassed 100,000 unique visits this past month!

We've launched a new and bold contest at the CTNP.  It's called the Novel & Demo Chapter Survey Contest, and the winner of this contest will win none other than a Nintendo Wii gaming system and download credit for one SNES or lesser game.  The contest runs through the duration of summer, so start collecting your signatures now!

To get involved with the contest, everything you need is HERE.  The basic idea is as follows: 1) Read the Demo Chapters (HERE), 2) take the survey, and 3) get as many signatures as you can to increase your chances of winning.  You can also take the survey without entering the contest if you prefer.

Further petition resources and info are available here.  If you're not familiar, the petition exists to assist in persuading Square-Enix to allow publication of the Chrono Trigger Novel.

After much anticipation and hard work, the Demo Chapters are finally revamped and available again to the public.  Please check out the new Demo Chapter Package in the Downloads section.  I'm confident you'll find these chapters a great read over the previous release from over 3 years ago.
And, very soon to come will be a contest involving the Demo Chapters and OpUV.  Stay tuned for more info!
Check out the main site to see the other updates.

Fan Project News/Updates / Petition Prize Structure Ideas
« on: December 21, 2006, 11:47:39 pm »
Hey everyone!  We're planning to implement a prize program into the OpUV petition effort, and I wanted to run some ideas by you.  Let me know what you think of the following prize structure:

50 Signatures: Choice of Art Print (donated by MagusChild, CuteLucca, etc.) or Signed Demo Chapters
100 Signatures: Chrono Trigger Wall Clock (or another choice of art print or signed demo chapters)
200 Signatures: Chrono Trigger or Cross Soundtrack CD Set
500 Signatures: Choice of Final Fantasy or Chrono Series Game for PlayStation
1000 Signatures: Original Chrono Trigger Cartridge for SNES with Player's Guide or another choice of PSX Game
5000 Signatures: PlayStation 2 System with Choice of Game and SNES with CT Cartridge or Choice of Another Game

Additinally, one idea has been brought up about a cameo in the novel.  That is, having an unimportant side character named after you in the book.

Let me know what you guys think about this and any other suggestions you may have.  Thanks!

Fan Project News/Updates / CTNP @ MAGFest!
« on: December 15, 2006, 12:20:10 am »
That's right!  In perhaps one of our craziest moves yet, CTNP will actually have a table at MAGFest in Vienna, Virginia.  This, the Music and Gaming Festival, takes place Jan. 4-7, 2007 at the Vienna Sheraton.

I will be there with Committee member Jeremy ("Pezman") to help educate people about the project and pass out petition forms.  We're definitely excited, and maybe we'll even get to meet some current supporters.

If you want to go, you should check it out pretty quick.  Hotel rooms are going fast (if not already gone), and there is a discount for preregistering online (before end of December).

Hope to see you there!

One of the token moves for the CT Novel Project has always been the mysterious "Chapter 1" and the otherwise present notion that something (or multiple somethings) will be included before the events of the Millennial Fair.  This is why the Demo Chapters start with Chapter 2.

Right now, a Chapter 1 does indeed exist, and I have decided to go back and do some revising on it before putting out updated revisions of the Demo Chapters (ch's 2-5).  So, I thought it would be a good time to prompt any interested fans for ideas that they may have for what they feel would be an ideal Chapter 1, which immediately precedes the beginning of the game.  Of course, ideas that could also qualify as a short opening (like a short poem or something catchy) or prologue are also welcomed.

To submit and discuss ideas, please go HERE.  (Though recommended, logging in is not required.)
Thanks!

Fan Project News/Updates / CTNP Address Change
« on: August 02, 2006, 08:28:21 pm »
Hey everyone!  This is just a quick note that the address to send petitions to has changed due to me moving to a new house.  Mail sent to the old address will forward to the new one for a while, but I just wanted to make everyone aware.  Also, the actual petition forms on the site haven't been updated yet but will be shortly.

The new address is:
   CTNP
   P.O. Box 400
   Henryville, IN. 47126-9998 USA

Thanks (and happy b-day, Zeality)!

Fan Project News/Updates / CTNP, Behind the Scenes
« on: July 02, 2006, 08:05:34 pm »
Just to give everyone a quick update, there are currently 3 major things in the works for the Chrono Trigger Novel Project (aside from the progression of the novel itself):
  • 1. New Demo Chapter (Ch's 2-5) Release, probably to be available by end of summer
  • 2. Chrono Revival, a new site for the combined efforts of CTNP and the CT Remake Petition to get more petition signatures for both (and to make it a little easier to sign)
  • 3. CTNP main site (often called "CTSite") redesign, to be started once Chrono Revival is up

As far as forum discussion goes, if anyone has specific thoughts, ideas, or suggestions for any of the above points, they are always welcome.

Thanks!

Kajar Laboratories / CTNP Ideas to Kick Around
« on: June 03, 2006, 11:36:49 pm »
Right now, I'm in the thinking and planning stages of a redesign for chronotrigger.info.  I'm currently looking for any ideas and suggestions about the current site and new content.

Here's one specific new idea I thought of today...
What if there was an interactive page on the site where people could choose a part of the CT storyline and then write their own version of it? Then, each person's story segment would be automatically posted on the site and possibly available for people to vote or make comments on.

This would be a way to do some interactive fanfiction and may be a neat way to get some unique ideas for the real novel, too.

What do you guys think?  I'm also looking for any other neat and more interactive ideas to keep people involved with the project.
Thanks!

Fan Project News/Updates / Novel Prologue Draft: Opinions Wanted
« on: May 28, 2006, 12:10:50 am »
I have decided to put together a draft of a potential Prologue for the novel, and would like to get a large variety of opinions on it.  This Prologue, the first publicly available piece of the novel since the Demo Chapters, is available for download (Microsoft Word .doc format) for an indefinite but likely not permanent amount of time.  I'd like to invite YOU to download and read the Prologue, and then come into our forum topic created specially for this discussion to share your thoughts and opinions amongst myself and other fans.  To do this, simply follow these ridiculously simple steps:

1. Download the Prologue by going to http://www.chronotrigger.info/exclusive.  You will need the username and password to get in.  The password is forumuser and the password is ctnp4me.
2. Read the Prologue ONE TIME ONLY
3. As soon as you can after reading it for the FIRST time, head to this forum topic to discuss and share opinions.  Note that membership is NOT required to post and participate, though it is recommended and encouraged.  If you do not have a username, just give yourself a name when you post, and it will recognize you as a non-member.

Also, please only come to the CTNP forum link above to discuss the Prologue.  This is not to take away posts from the Compendium forum but simply to keep discussion on this Prologue in one place.

All participation is greatly appreciated.  Thanks and take care!
