I traced the Acacia Dragoons emblem and I thought that someone else may find it useful  :P It's in black and white, in vectors in svg format and rasterized in jpg.

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Wingless dragons
« on: May 22, 2011, 09:05:39 pm »
Just something random I noticed. I was looking for some reference pictures of the Dragon gods, and I noticed that some of the Dragons are wingless when you first encounter them, but later, in the video of the creation of the Dragon God, they have sprouted wings.

The earth dragon is completely wingless the first time and the green dragon has some sort of branches where the wings are supposed to go.

Technically, the red dragon is wingless too the first time you meet him, he grows wings at the middle of the battle.

The black, sky and water dragons don't change their appearance at all during the course of the game.

But the water dragon is wingless too, he has something that looks like small fins in his back, instead of wings, but he never grows proper wings (and still he can fly  :| ).

Not sure any of these are of any relevance to the game, but I find it really curious. I wonder if the wings of the earth and green dragons got in the way during the battle animations or were too distracting and that's why they were dropped?

Welcome / Birthday / Seeya! Forum / Another year and still kicking!
« on: May 03, 2011, 07:27:36 am »
Apparently, the Earth succesfully completed another course around her orbit. Which means today is my birthday.

Being totally sincere, I managed to forget about it! (I spent all weekend thinking it was on Wednesday), but a friend just sent me a message on DA that reminded me of it, ha ha...

So, 24 years old, yeah.

Fan Art / Chronopolis: the Chrono ARG
« on: April 22, 2011, 02:56:23 pm »
I have no idea in which forum this thread is supposed to go  :o

This is just an idea for a game I’m sharing here acompanied with pretty fake screenshots, I don’t actually intend to make it real :) Think of this as a fanart-fanfic of sorts.

This idea was born some days ago in the middle of a creative block. I decided to play around with some web design ideas to see if I could get my creative juices flowing again. I started adding some Chrono flavored ideas to get me entertained, the result was a layout (and logo) design for a fictional “Chronopolis” website. I started thinking in which kind of game this could be actually used, which kind of game uses a fake website design?

After thinking a little about it the idea hit: an ARG!

From the wikipedia article:
Quote
An alternate reality game (ARG) is an interactive narrative that uses the real world as a platform, often involving multiple media and game elements, to tell a story that may be affected by participants' ideas or actions.

The form is defined by intense player involvement with a story that takes place in real-time and evolves according to participants' responses, and characters that are actively controlled by the game's designers, as opposed to being controlled by artificial intelligence as in a computer or console video game. Players interact directly with characters in the game, solve plot-based challenges and puzzles, and often work together with a community to analyze the story and coordinate real-life and online activities. ARGs generally use multimedia, such as telephones, email and mail but rely on the Internet as the central binding medium.

(If that didn’t make any sense, check the ARG quickstart guide.)

Based on the Chronopolis website design, I came up with a simple idea for a Chrono ARG. ( heavily inspired by the LOST ARGs, particularly Dharma Wants You, and the fake Hanso Foundation websites from the LOST Experience)

The game

The game follows Chronopolis pre-Time Crash, the people that worked there and the implementation of Project Kid. More especifically, a group of Chronopolis agents (the players) who were selected for missions related with Project Kid, but they slowly discover there is much more to the Project than what have been revealed to them.

The “rabbit hole”( the very first clue that brings people into the ARG) are these Chronopolis ID cards.

Let’s say, you are sent this mysterious card to your mail or given to you in a videogame store, it has the url of a website and a password printed in the back, without revealing anything else.

You enter the url, the Chronopolis website looks just like a regular corporate website, nothing odd except for the dates (copyright 2400, etc...).

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

(The "Join us" button is an alternative way to get a password, if couldn't get a card IRL)

The website is fully functional, with all the subpages working, all of them with simple and not too revealing content, the typical information that is to be expected in a corporate website(Mission, vision, values...), just a bunch of ambigous information (to keep up appearances)

If you enter the password from the ID card in the Chronopolis website, you get access to the  “real” game website...

By registering on the Project Kid website, you can enroll as an agent of Chronopolis, and participate in weekly missions, with each succesful mission a new piece of the story behind the game will be revealed to you.

Missions are a mix of internet treasure-hunting and plot-based puzzles.... as an example: The Chief Director of Chronopolis send you an email containing a document, an essay of a paleontologist about hypothesis of the extinction of the Reptites. The essay doesn’t actually say anything relevant, the true clue is the name of the author of the essay, if you google it you’ll find a blog, allegedy created by this fictional author. A code may be hidden in one of its posts. If you enter the code in the “Mission code” field of the website you unlock a little puzzle or a minigame to be solved.

Another example, you are sent another email, it’s a long block of text, but you notice the words “Porrean” and “Hero” are marked. If you google them you’ll find a youtube channel called PorreanHero, despite the name, at first glance there’s nothing related to Chrono in the account. It only has one video, a home-made documentary about some paranormal theories proposing that there are real Time Travelers and that have affected real-world history. Maybe at one part of the video there is an odd date thrown in, and that’s the code.

It may sound too complicated, but the idea is that the missions should be solved as a  community, not individually...and if players ever get stuck, there are always ways of helping them get back in track, anyway.

I had some other ideas like having some “spies” from the Central Regime posing as agents (acting as players) in the community, but I did not planned further than that...

(As a note, the NEWS text used in the Chronopolis homepage was taken from one of Crimson Echoes Memorial videos, from the Chronopolis’ News uplinks)

For the curious, here are the logos used in the website, and an alternative version of Project Kid’s logo with Frozen Flame instead of the Chrono Cross.

I hope this idea is not too confusing, I was just looking for an excuse to share my screenshots  :picardno

Characters, Plot, and Themes / Draggy, dragons, dragonians...
« on: April 07, 2011, 10:06:21 pm »
What kind of dragon is Draggy?

When I first played the game I thought Draggy was from the same kind of artificially created dragons as the dragon gods, since apparently the Dragonians were incubating creatures of the same kind as Draggy in the basement of Fort Dragonia. I even thought the Final Dragon God was going to recognize him if i had him in my party, but I was wrong of course  :? And I think the plot suggests that the Dragonians created only one of that kind of creature, so I guess Draggy is not that kind of dragon...

So, is he from a species natural to el Nido like the dragon-horse things of the Acacia Dragoons? a natural species from the Reptite dimension? a prehistoric species from Gaia's Navel?

I remember that Draggy's mom was the Fossil in Fossil Valley, but I don't quite get where they came from in the first place.

:P So is Draggy the next Dragon God of El Nido or just a random cute baby dragon with no place to go?

I recently got into Scott Pilgrim, both the comics and the movie (the graphic style is so my kind of style... :P ). For those who  haven't heard about it,  Scott Pilgrim is a graphic novel about a 23 years old hipster gamer living in toronto, and his own world seems to work like a videogame at times. The story is littered with call-outs and references to many many videogames, specially retro games. Now, I decided to share it here because there are a couple of references to Chrono Trigger  8) :

In the volume 3: Scott Pilgrim and the Infinite Sadness, Scott falls asleep standing up in the rain and his friend Wallace wakes him up...

In the last volume: Scott Pilgrim's Finest Hour, Scott and Ramona final attack is Crono and Frog's X strike!  :D

Also, the author, Brian Lee O’Malley, made this cute fanart of Lucca  :)

Sorry if someone already posted about this  :P If someone is curious here is a more complete list of references that could be find in the comics, including other games.

Characters, Plot, and Themes / Schala-Kid personality?
« on: April 03, 2011, 04:09:22 am »
I'm not asking here about Schala and Kid getting merged in Chrono Cross, I'm asking about the Kid from Radical Dreamers after she got her memories back. Since this version of Kid is not a separate entity from Schala, I don't think this is the same situation.  How would Kid be affected after the events of Le Trésor Interdit?  would she remember her years as Schala as her own memories(very vivid), or as the memories of someone else(distant, dissociated, maybe even dreamlike)? Is it like getting back the memories of a past life (sort of like a reincarnation)? or like repressed memories(recovered memories from a traumatic event)? I wonder how exactly would having her memories back would affect her personality, obviously it's something that would change her permanently... Would Schala-Kid be a mellower version of Kid? a more assertive Schala? Would their opposite personality traits nullify each other creating someone completely different?  I'm curious because I have been trying to write a fanfic, but I'm not sure how to approach this.

New RD fanart, woo! I admit I was under the influence of caffeine while sketching this, I regreted it while vectorizing it. The little details are explained better in the comment.

http://fav.me/d3bw6bf

oh god, it's 5am... I need to sleep  :?

EDIT: By the way, while working on this i noticed the Compendium Encyclopedia lacks a picture of the Viper Manor's atrium, or at least i couldn't find it. In the Viper Manor article there are pictures of almost all the rooms, even the kitchen, but no atrium.

EDIT 2:  :picardno I just noticed, in the original sketch for this piece, that there was supposed to be the Einlanzer... It kinda got lost in the middle of all those gears... oh well...

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Just a little RD doubt
« on: March 05, 2011, 10:00:03 pm »
Hey guys, just a quick doubt I've got.

I was reading the Radical Dreamers script the other day and I noticed a piece of dialogue I haven't seen before. In the SuperXtreme Alphacosmos Police Case EX Ultra scenario. When you check the painting in the study, just after Serge jokes "If you're any kind of wife, you'll at least console him with one of your bittersweet smiles" there's these lines in the script:

Quote
"Magil's wife? What the...!?"
"It was only a joke, Kid! A joke..."
But it's too late... I cry out uncontrollably, glancing down where Kid's
knife had struck me with sublight speed.
The blade's redshifted afterimage brings forth high temperatures from the
nitrogen plasma shockwave, leaving me gasping, breath after breath...
Was I really joking? I can't even tell anymore...
Kid...
In my heart, I hold feelings of both love and malicious intent. Only because
of this am I able to rise to my feet, grasping my wound.

But everytime I play through this scene I always get these lines instead:

Quote
Whap!
"Hey, snap out of it, mate."
Kid had gone to the trouble of removing one of her high laced boots and
hitting me over the head with it. I awake from my daze, rubbing my head.
"Huh? What the heck... I was only joking around, Kid."
"Hrmf."

I was curious about how to get the first dialogue? I had been trying some things but to no use, I keep getting the second dialogue everytime.

Here, for Radical Dreamers: "The thieves who stole the stars", kinda weird idea, the full excuse explanation is in the description http://fav.me/d3ag40v

And here, for Chrono Trigger: "MarlexMagus", because I was inspired by maggiekarp comics :) http://fav.me/d3ahi7t
