Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Anybody gotten Draggy early?
« on: June 19, 2007, 12:39:46 am »
By that, I mean getting him as soon as you have access to Home World's boat. He's surprisingly good at that point. His element grid is limited, but is magic and attack power are a point or so behind Radius', which is pretty good in my book. He also get's his Lv. 7 tech skill earlier than the other characters, which makes him really useful during the Porre invasion scenario. Plus, there's the unintentional humour factor of killing Garai, destroying the Dead Sea and running Porre out of Termina with a overly-cute dragon baby by your side.

General Discussion / Yay, a Metroid self-insertion fanfic!

Hey all, I've got another project, but I think this one is going to work out better than the others.

I don't have all the details yet, but I've got a pretty good idea of what's going to happen in this game.

The Beginning (told in a narrative):

Sixteen years ago, Samus Aran was the highest ranking bounty hunter throughout the galaxy. She fought many successful battles against the Metroids and the Space Pirates, who strived to become the dominant species of the universe. The Pirate Armada had been weakened, and their forces pushed to one planet: SM-49. It was here that Samus once again defeated the Space Pirates. All went perfectly, until...

*shows Samus running down a hallway explosions around her*
PA System: "Self-Destruct in one minute."

Narrative: Samus had successfully initiated a self-destruct sequence in the Pirate Base, and was escaping from the resulting explosions.

*a group of metroids smash through a wall*

Narrative: The Metroids, fierce, energy-syphoning creatures, had been bred on SM-49 as well.

*Samus spins around and blasts a few of the metroids*
PA System: "Self-Destruct in thirty seconds."

Narrative: They were once no match for Samus, but they would prove a most powerful foe, even in extinction.

*Samus opens the door, and starts to run out, but there's a huge explosion behind her, and several metroids smash into her armor.*
PA system: "Fifteen seconds"
*Samus limps back to her ship, panting, and flies off, leaving the planet to explode*

Narrative: Badly hurt from the explosion, Samus traveled to the nearby Space Station, Sirius, seeking medical attention.

*Samus is in a large tank, with lots of tubes hooked up to her*

Narrative: She had recieved no physical damage, but suffered great and increasing illness.

*Shows spinning DNA*

Narrative: Finally, after a DNA test, the problem was found.

*A large piece of the DNA breaks off and is replaced by blue particles&

Narrative: The Metroid DNA had come into contact with her skin, causing a genetic mutation to rupture throughout her body. Unfourtunately, genetic reconstruction was impossible, as the cells had divided rapidly and could not be destroyed or modified in time. The condition was deemed terminal.

*Shows Samus on a hospital bed, a man in a lab coat next to her*

Narrative: Before Samus' death, the scientists at Sirius wanted to preserve some of her mutated cells to continue their research on the metroids and how to use them to better mankind. She agreed. A small mass of cells was preserved. Samus died later that day, as her mutating bodily structure could not support her any longer.

*shows a large capsule containing a small blue blob; scientists are working around it*

Narrative: The cells were kept and studied for two years. There were no significant discoveries. That is, until one of the scientists accidentally administered an electric shock to the cells. The results were amazing: The cells divided rapidly, and had an extremely high metabolism when induced to a constant electrical stream. Intrigued, the scientists introduced the cells to a constant shock.

*shows an embryo in the tank*

Narrative: Within two days, the cells had regenerated into a living embryo, and within a week, the scientists had a newborn child.

*shows a scientist holding a baby*
Narrative: The scientists were baffled. The child was male, a strange phonomonon. If this child came from Samus' cells, the child would have become an exact clone, gender as well. The child's genetic structure was studied, only to find more intriguing results.

*shows another DNA structure, half of it is blue*
Narrative: The child's DNA structure had even more Metroid chromosomes than Samus; a 1:1 ratio of metroid to human.

*scientists in conference*
Narrative: The scientists debated if the child experiment should be terminated. Some were worried he would be a wave of destruction against the human race, others argued from a observational standpoint, wanting to view the hybrid's activities. Finally, one of the lead scientists had a brilliant idea.

*One scientist standing up*
Narrative: The hybrid would be injected with a special hormonal suppressant, that would halt any activities of the metroid DNA, allowing for study without worry of the hybrid becoming inhuman. In complete agreement, the scientists built a hormone, and injected it.

*Shows the DNA, the blue turns yellow*
It worked quickly, dulling and halting all metroid activities in the hybrid's body. Without hesitation, the hybrid was adopted, and named "X", as a connotation of a cross, but to keep relations between the hybrid and humans friendly, he was given the name "Xeno".

*Screen turns black*
It has been fourteen years, the hybrid had grown up in Sirius. Unaware of the reason for the seemingly nameless discrimination against him, Xeno lived as a loner, contained in the Sirius. The only person who had ever excepted him, was Damien, the son of the lead scientist, and a powerful inventor. They could only relate to each other, and both agreed, they had to escape their prison-like lives and seek a more adventurous life-style. This is their story; my story. I am the hybrid: Xeno Aran.

*game begins*

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's really a plot for a game, but who cares? There's no sex involved! This is a milestone for Metroid Self Insertioners everywhere!

Also notice that the author ignored Metroid Fusion AND Metroid Prime completely! Hurray for BS "AUs"!

I agree with Challenger on the general concepts. CC was just a way to leech off of the popularity of Chrono Trigger. It's not a bad game anymore than the U.S. version of Godzilla is a bad movie. They just shouldn't have called the movie "Godzilla" because it has a giant lizard, not Gojira. By the same principle, they shouldn't call Chrono Cross "Chrono", nor should they act as if it's anything vaguely resembling a sequel because they share very little in common. Poorly made versions of Crono, Marle, and Lucca were just put in minor roles so the CC people could try to "prove" that it has relevance to Chrono Trigger.

CHRONO CROSS, IF REALLY RELATED TO TRIGGER, COULD HAVE ONLY BEEN THE RESULT OF AN ENDING IN WHICH CRONO DIED AND WAS BROUGHT BACK, MAGUS JOINED, AND LAVOS WAS BEATEN IN THE DEVASTATED FUTURE. A victory in 1999 A.D. or when Lavos first awakened would NOT be possible if CC is related to CT, because the Magus wouldn't have become an ally if Lavos were beaten when first awakened by the Mammon Machine(for the Magus to join, Crono must die), and Crono is resurrected atop a mountain in the devastated future(meaning that he must have died in the Dark Ages). Going to the Black Omen to beat Lavos in 1000 A.D. would be impossible because that would alter the future so the ruination of the world would have been averted and Robo wouldn't or couldn't have joined. If Robo hadn't joined then Kid wouldn't have known about him and couldn't have drawn his picture at Lucca's house. The New Game + feature is just there for replay value, so I will not take it into account.

The concept of Chrono Cross is flawed. By the end of CT each character is a one person army easily capable of defeating Lynx and Harle in any fight. It's true that Lucca could have been poisoned(or something), but then one or more of the other characters(probably Robo, but definitely not Ayla)would have eventually found out that Luca was killed. Then they would have used the Epoch to go back to a time where Lucca was intact and would have skinned Lynx with ease, saving Lucca's life. Even if one character were killed, that character's existence wouldn't be erased by such a simple act. It's clear that the only way a relatively weak kitty could beat them would be to manipulate time and prevent them form ever existing, which can't or couldn't happen because(if CC is supposed to be related to CT) destroying the CT cast would make it impossible for Lynx to exist to destroy the CT cast. Somehow killing the Chrono Trigger cast in order of who ends up in the future, then the present(around 1000 A.D.), the middle ages,(the dark age isn't listed here because Magus is mentioned as if he is alive in the present in CC)then the past AFTER they completed their major roles is not plausible because Robo/Prometheus is not only aware of FATE, but actively works against its plans. Lucca dies not only chronologically before Robo is deleted, but first in CC as well. The Epoch was created in the Dark Ages and, being strong enough to withstand tearing through time itself, and precious enough to be protected, would exist in every time period afterwards. Robo, who knows about FATE's actions and has the Epoch, would be a nearly flawless failsafe. Lynx couldn't have managed to get the Epoch and kill Lucca, because Crono and Marle would then use their Epoch to kill Lynx before he stole the future Epoch.

If you managed to follow the triple necessities that limit the ending of CT and the reasons(character fail safes and the "...you wouldn't be able to destroy something that resulted in you so that you could destroy something that made you as that would keep you from existing so that..." loop) then you should know that Chrono Cross IS NOT POSSIBLE. I know it may be hard to follow because time-travel messes with the proper tense of things.

Characters, Plot, and Themes / Two questions and an observation about Kid.
« on: December 09, 2004, 10:37:55 pm »
Questions:

1. Why do the Cybots in the Black Omen look and act JUST like Gato?

2. Why do the ghosts in Chronopolis dissapear after you kill FATE? Did FATE provide some sort of life-support system for them, and after she died, they died too?

The observation:

Here's a little interesting thing I saw when you bring Kid to the Radical Dreamers intro in Chronopolis for the first time.

Full transcript:
*end of part about Serge talking about memories of Kid*
Kid: "Radical Dreamers...!?"
Kid: "And me name's on here, too!"
Kid: "What the bloody hell is goin' on?"
<new textbox appears>
Kid: "And here's a passage with me and me old mates."
*start part about Magil, Serge and Kid talking to each other, before infiltrating Viper Manor*

Anybody feel like looking into this?
