General Discussion / Personality Discussion and Advice
« on: November 20, 2011, 11:06:35 pm »
This is a place where you can:

Post your personality quirks for discussion
Get advice on how to overcome what you consider a personal failing
Talk about how awesome you are based on 'X' feature of your personality or overcoming some sort of personal demon
Bring up random facets of personality (not necessarily yours) for discussion
Ask for advice regarding events of a personal nature (in other words, not academic help)
Give general advice

This is not a place for:

General Discussion
Politics
Insults and/or arguments (I'm looking at you, Tushantin and Josh and myself!)
Achievements of a non-personal nature (Good for you if you won the Nobel Prize, but we're regarding affairs of emotion and personality here)

Granted, these are guidelines. There will always be exceptions, and I am not going to harshly regulate this unless personal insults get thrown around. This is probably one of the worst places for that. Without further ado, I'll start this thing off:

I have a hard time making eye contact with people. For one thing, it feels like I'm staring, but it also makes me incredibly self-conscious to look someone in the eyes for more than a split-second or two. I could chalk it up to my middle-school experience, where making eye contact was inviting people to notice, and thereby torment me, but I feel like it should have worn off by now.
An extension of this, is I have what I consider an abnormal reaction to seeing people I know and am friends with in the hallways. I avoid eye contact with people I don't know, but even with people I do know, I'll tend to look away. Other reactions include scowling or glaring--especially if it's someone I'm friends with. On the rare occasion I remember to smile, I have to actually remind myself, "Oh, this person is my friend, I should smile," so it tends to be a delayed reaction.

It seems very weird to me! I even have a hard time holding Red's gaze. On the one hand, I want to look into his eyes (for hopefully obvious reasons plus he has really beautiful eyes), but there's always a pressure to look away--some sort of awkwardness that eventually makes me drop my eyes. It's definitely less of a problem with him than it is with other people, of course. And I definitely smile when I see him. <3
I tend to stare at people's hair or just not look at them at all when I'm talking to them.

And another incident was at one point a few years ago I was having an argument with my grandmother. I don't remember what it was about, but there was a stretch where I glared at her for a few seconds and she shouted "Don't look at me!" by which she of course meant, "Don't give me that dirty look," but from that point I pretty much never made eye contact with her, or even looked directly at her at all for a good year or so. I'm getting better, but there's just this built-in aversion to looking at her. And most other people.

Thoughts?

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / ALL the Chrono Trigger releases?
« on: November 05, 2011, 01:30:21 pm »
As far as I know, Chrono Trigger has (officially) come out for SNES, Super Famicom, PSX, and DS. Am I missing any?

I don't know how this happened. My subconscious obviously wanted to draw the royal kids 'cause I was going to draw some random girl but then she became Magus somehow and then Kid appeared in the top left and then oh god all of these other people what I don't

Yeah it's obviously not done yet but what do you all think? I finally beat CTDS so maybe this was an inevitability.

Notes on this picture: Happy Janus getting chubby kitten Alfador!
I don't know what teenage Magus is doing, he's probably just angsting.
Older Magus and Magil: not having a face-off.
I didn't draw Guile because he's very similar to Magil and there were enough Maguses down there already and he was only retconned into being Magus after being retconned out of being Magus anyway...
Yay depressed Schala again. :I
KID, WHY IS THE FRONT OF YOUR SKIRT NONEXISTENT?! I had fun drawing her but I feel like a pervert drawing that skirt.
I threw Schala-child in there fore the heck of it.
Took some liberties on some outfits...

Obviously a work-in-progress (Schala's foot goes through Kid's foot!), so got any critiques or questions or suggestions?

Welcome / Birthday / Seeya! Forum / Another meaningless year!
« on: August 11, 2011, 10:05:36 pm »
I'm 19 today! And I got the internets!

But seriously, the only ages that matter are 18, 21, and whatever year gives me a senior discount in the future when I'm old. Cause who knows, it might change.

The description under the deviation tells all...so, uh...get to it, I suppose! If you're watching the fanfest you might know about this already, so kudos to ya!

Kajar Laboratories / FanFest won't load on FireFox...why?
« on: July 07, 2010, 01:53:30 pm »
First off, I'm sorry for posting this here, but there isn't actually a 'General Board' that I could tell, so here we are. It seemed less offensive than putting it in, say, the SPRINGTIME OF YOUTH or simultaneously sending this to everyone in the Compendium.

Now then, the Fangamer CT Fanfest won't for some reason, load in FireFox. This would not bother me that much, since I have IE...except for one thing: It worked the first time I went to check them out. I clicked the link and watched the first video in Firefox.
The next day? No dice. I get a HORRIBLE ERROR! message followed by a jumble of code. It's looong, so I won't bother pasting the whole thing here, but...

The whole thing is about three pages, though. Like I said, it wasn't doing this from the start, because if it was I wouldn't be complaining--I'd just grin and bear it and use IE (which I'm doing anyway, minus the grinning).

Does anyone else have this problem or know what it is?

Ok, so I've only watched Avatar twice, but that's a good thing, since the first time I was so overwhelmed by the movie's sheer awesomeness that I forgot some things, didn't think too deeply about others...etcetera. I really freaking love the movie, while acknowledging its faults. This is not, however, an Avatar fan-fest. This is the Analysis forum, so here's a Real-World/Pandoran connection with the Chrono Series.

Eywa. The Na'vi. The Tree of Souls. The big...cougar thing (Thanator). Even those little dog monsters that attack Jake Sully on his first night alone on Pandora. They are all connected to Eywa, and, basically, so is everything on the planet. The Na'vi can plug into the trees, the Toruk and Ikran, the Thanator, and probably everything else on Pandora, considering they all have Queues (their tentacle/braids). How could such a diverse and often hostile group of beings have evolved--and still be connected to Eywa? After all, it's not like a Na'vi would ever normally approach a Thanator. Somehow, the Na'vi and all life on Pandora evolved to be connected, and to nurture the planet.

Completely opposite of Lavos, who wants to devour the planet, ne? Not quite.

Lavos, after crash-landing, influenced human evolution through the Frozen Flame, harvesting DNA and basically creating a new species. Its ultimate goal was to become ultra-powerful and spawn while eradicating the earth (perhaps unintentionally, but...who knows?).

Eywa, on the other hand, is improbable. Life diversified so much on Pandora, yet all species retained a way to form a connection not only with Eywa, but with the Na'vi?! Some of those critters EAT the Na'vi! I would hypothesize that Eywa, being a godlike presence on Pandora, somehow guided the evolution of all life on the planet--but not, as in Lavos' case, to further its own power, but to create and maintain balance. Sure, it's playing God, but, well, it IS God(ess).

So Eywa is a sort of alternate, benevolent Lavos, as it says in the title...though she is native to Pandora. Probably.

Thoughts? Comments? Am I completely off my rocker here?

Found this and remembered how lots of people call Lavos a porcupine.

Submissions / Frog, Nadia, Lucca
« on: November 22, 2009, 10:00:25 pm »
I keep forgetting to post these. They're based on a dream I had, taking place during the Fall of Guardia. Marle and Crono were fighting against the Porreans, but suddenly Marle was spirited away by one of the castle staff. Crono chased them and ended up trapped with Marle in a part of the castle he didn't know existed. He and Marle step through the only open door in the room...and vanish.

Skipping ahead, Lucca rescues Glenn from imprisonment and re-Froggification at the hands of a magician who has been kidnapping and transforming humans into beings similar to Frog.

Plus a whole lot of background info that's too long to put here. I don't want to bore anyone. This takes place in an alternate timeline from any of the Chrono games. There's more info on the pages themselves if you're interested, but it's not very cohesive or well-written...

The pictures!

She doesn't wear this during the siege, but she wears it later, in 600 AD. It's a gift from Leene.

http://katie-yoshi.deviantart.com/art/Glenn-Frog-again-91815175

Frog was wearing this. He's really ticked off that he's a Frog again, but he finds that he's sort of fond of the form, which is keeping him from being able to turn back. He'll eventually return to human form.

My personal theory: Magic makes your ears pointed. Lucca continues to practice magic after the events of CT while still being a genius inventor.

That's it. I may or may not post the full story/dream in fanfiction form...

General Discussion / Gurren Lagaan: Manga or Anime?
« on: November 01, 2009, 11:25:00 am »
Of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagaan, which is better, the Manga, or the Anime? I'm asking those of you who have read/watched one or the other (or both) to fight it out here! Or maybe they're both equally good, who knows.

I was planning on watching/reading it, so I thought I'd ask you guys.

I can't find the level maps for the dimensional vortex or any of the little pocket dimensions holding the alternate Crono/Marle/Lucca...Is there a page for those yet? YES, I checked the encyclopedia...it wasn't under locations in CT, so I'm not sure where else it would be...

Submissions / Bekkler-Zeal Connections Sprite Edit
« on: June 13, 2009, 02:55:41 am »
I have always been struck by the similarity between Queen Zeal's transformed sprite and Norstein Bekkler's normal sprite.

Whether or not there is a connection is beyond me; that is a topic for the discussion forum, anyway. I took the liberty of editing the queen's sprite to fit Bekkler, just for fun...and also for my own fan-whims. I had done this once before, but I'd exceeded the palette limit. This has been remedied...

Thoughts? Criticisms? He's basically a floating mask. The green gloves were sort of a whim...I have room for, I believe, two more colors...if I wanted to make them, say, black. Took the green of his eyes (and gloves) from the Bekkler sprite...I was originally going to make the eyes blue.

Submissions / Decorative Zeal Font...?
« on: June 01, 2009, 05:41:54 pm »
That's right, a font in the theme of Zeal. I've got all the letters--capital and lowercase, all the numbers, and !?:;-(),. , and that's all I'm going to do. This font is made to be decorative, rather than functional in a MS Word document.

However...I need a font maker. I can't find a font maker that lets me import images I've already made elsewhere, and this is the type of program I need. As of now, I have all of the files saved as photoshop documents so that I could feasibly edit them later...but copy+pasting each individual letter one at a time is very tedious, and I'd like to be able to just type out sentences. Besides, I want this font available to the entire Compendium, not just myself! So, anyone own a program like this?

And here's an example of the font...

Jeez, I hope that's readable. It seemed a lot bigger when I saved it...

Here's something a little larger...

Submissions / Dedicated to the staff of Crimson Echoes...
« on: May 12, 2009, 08:48:10 pm »
...and the near-finished game, itself. I have to say, I was really devastated when I heard the news. I had been working just the night before on a wallpaper for the prerelease festivities...and then I read the next morning that it had been shut down.

Well, Schala seemed as good a candidate as any to carry the sorrow of the Chrono community--goodness knows she's used to it--so she bids a tearful farewell to her Crimson Echo, but retains the spirit of the project and the ideals behind it.

I'm not as eloquent as some of you, so I'll stop there and let you all pay your respects or critique this or whatever...

But I would like to say that despite the unfortunate outcome, all of you who worked on the project did a real bang-up job, and I admire you.
