Chrono News / Re: R.I.P. Akira Toriyama
« on: March 08, 2024, 11:16:57 pm »
It's no exaggeration to say Akira Toriyama may be the most prolific Manga artist worldwide.
Man, I remember recording newly-dubbed episodes of Dragon Ball when they aired on Toonami, my friends and I were really able to bond over his works. Between that and Chrono Trigger/Dragon Quest, his illustrated worlds were so vivid. RIP.

Long time no see, but I finished the model! After a bit of a hiatus, I completed it a couple months ago.
A friend of mine (username HeroTechne) modeled his sword and sheath, though I modeled the katana handle wrap.

I'm excited to experience a new translation of Radical Dreamers, even though I like the Demiforce one a lot, it'll be interesting to compare the two after 20 years.

And while I expected something like the FF8 remaster for Chrono Cross (New PSP-like character models for the central characters) that new portrait artwork is appreciated, and CC's original graphics still hold up really well for PSX anyway.
(Edit: Actually, it does appear the battle models are new. Nice!)

Also, Chrono Cross being relevant again could mean new Bring Arts figures for Serge and Kid. Square's been making figures for all their PlayStation hits (Xenogears, FF Tactics, Vagrant Story, etc) and Cross has been curiously absent!

Chrono News / Re: Unseen Magus Artwork for CT's 26th Anniversary!

These are amazing! I've never seen these before either, and seeing any new piece of Chrono Trigger material is really cool.

Models sheets like these'll be very useful for fan works, such as 3d models and cosplay. Last year I tried looking for a good reference for Frog's back head patterns while 3d modeling him.

Chrono News / Re: Chrono Trigger Figure by [Good Smile Company]

My heart totally skipped a beat when I read this! We haven't had a Crono figure in ages, other than the DS ones and that little keychain from the 90's. (Let alone one of this quality) However... I looked more into it, and looks like it was created by a GSC employee in their off-time, and there aren't any plans to commercialize it.
Still, it's cool to see him in 3D, and hopefully something could still materialize from this.

Fan Art / Re: Radical Dreamers Lynx manor in Chrono Trigger style

It's nice seeing an overhead view of the Radical Dreamers map with all the details in there; The treasure room turned out nice especially IMO. If you'd like, I can help supply some custom tiles for anything that'd need them.

Wow, that's impressive, especially when you consider just how many games came out in the Heisei period.  :o

Even Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai  showcased a custom stage made in the game yesterday thanks to the Famitsu poll. I don't think it means Crono is coming to Smash, but it's still cool to see.

After I beat Lavos traditionally for the first time, I invited my friend over that weekend and we tried to get to the Developer's Room. That's why getting there was particularly memorable for me; we spent all afternoon trying to beat Lavos with just Crono in the party.

We traded the controller around for his different phases and actually managed to beat him that night, it was really satisfying.
All the text in there was really memorable and tongue-in-cheek, it's one of my favorite easter eggs in the game.

I think this is the first time I've seen a 3d model of the Court Room. Nice work!

Count me in as an interested playtester as well, the complete 1999 AD map is something I'd like to see more of.

Congrats to all the winners! I'm glad to see contests like this continue over time.
I was a bit busy this year, but if a similar contest were to happen again, I'd be all over it.

Haha, now there's some dedication.
If I saw you at a convention I'd totally be glad to see some Chrono representation there. Keep it up.

Fan Art / Re: Chrono Break Trailer mockups by Im5on
« on: October 24, 2018, 02:23:13 pm »
Great pixel work by Im5on! The backgrounds kind of look like they were painted instead of done through pixel art, but nope, it's all pixeled.
Making a full game like this would be pretty hard I imagine, so it was smart of him to keep it as a mock-up trailer.

Yeah, looking at the size of the font, it seems like the original was printed pretty small to begin with.
This scan could always be cleaned up too. (Some nice noise reduction, maybe even making it a vector, all that good stuff)

Thanks guys, I do plan on texturing him eventually.

The Chrono fan competition sounds like it'll be fun, I'll try and see if I can get something cooked up for it! I would like to model the Jetbike one of these days.
