They are? Why would Disney want to do a thing like that? They want to make Media as least accessible as possible

I understand what you mean, but Disney seems to be straying from that marketing tactic. Here are the articles I read where I learned about Disney's recent dealings:
Disney and YouTube Sign Video Partnership

Disney-ABC Signs Streaming Deals With Netflix, Amazon
http://mashable.com/2011/10/31/netflix-disney-abc-2/
Off topic: Netflix is still f*cked though, lol. Disney movies and ABC shows yayyy [sarcasm]

The industry just doesn't get it. Fighting "piracy" is not the answer. They made a big deal about music sharing, then Apple made the iPod and all of a sudden everyone was buying music again. The answer is to make media more accessible to people.
Take Disney for example. They have more money than God and they're always 10 steps ahead everyone else. What are they doing? They signed a deal with YouTube last week. Last month they signed a deal with Netflix/Hulu Plus/Amazon Video/etc. They're making media more accessible.

That's good! I mean, those PMs aren't good, lol. We should be scared about SOPA. That should drive us to inform people about it and encourage them to do something about it. SOPA will only happen if we let it happen!

Chrono Compedium WILL be shut down if the Online Piracy Act (a.k.a. the SOPA) is passed. As well as every other popular fan site and all fan related content on YouTube (gameplay videos) and fan content on other social media sites (Facebook).
Here's a visual explanation of SOPA:

A video about SOPA:

See, doesn't that just SUCK? Square-Enix dislikes fan projects as it is by the fan projects they've canceled. Imagine if they had the power to shut down fan sites too? They will not hesitate to use this power! So I highly recommend posting it in the news to inform people about it and encourage them to sign the petitions to stop it.

Tutorials? Hmm... let's see... ah, I remember this video was helpful with outlines:
http://www.gotoandlearn.com/play.php?id=106
Jump to 05:00. Just save your outline from Inkscape as an SVG, then follow this video. You can even smooth out your extruded object with "BevelResol".
Blender has "edge outline" too
It just requires a few more steps versus Maya. It's in the same panel from the above video, using "BevOb" and "TaperOb". Google those features and you should find a tutorial on it.
Yeah, I would agree that Maya's character outlining features are easier. But Blender isn't terrible at it, just some things require more clicks. We'll see, the next release of Blender promises to be a complete overhaul aimed at making things easier. They've been working on it a long time.

You support open source, ay? Then switch to Blender!
Really, the only difference between Maya and Blender is that Maya has advanced features that, unless you're a professional 3D artist, you'll probably never use them in your lifetime.
Seriously, you can make some pretty impressive 3D models simply by using vector outlines. Check out this other wallpaper I made. See the books in the background? Those were made entirely by outlines from Illustrator. It would take longer to try to model them with polygons, and you'd also have to worry about having enough edges to make rounded corners look smooth enough.
A Crono AMV? Very cool! Post your progress here. What software are you using for it?

@hiddensquire: Thanks.
Well, consider the page I linked to a regular 'ol fansite wallpapers page rather than a showcase of my art. I can't really call any of that my art since it's either based on official art or stuff submitted to me. Alternately, I have my art here. My other 3D art isn't as nice as this - I just recently reached this level of quality, lol. It takes years of practice. And this article helped me A LOT with my Photoshop phase.

Very nice work! I'm looking forward to the finished product. (make it into a wallpaper!) I do have some tips for you.

[Arrow 1, the base] I recommend bumping up the edge count here to give it a more realistic feel. A quick way to do this is to create a new cylinder with a high edge count, duplicate it and fill the center, then perform a boolean operation to cut out the center. OR even better, jump into Illustrator (or Inkscape (it's free)) and create the outline of the shape there, then import it into Maya as a curve and extrude it. You can actually make the curve in Maya, but Maya isn't very user friendly with curves. Ask your teacher about it.
[Arrow 2, the arch] Same as above, I recommend bumping up the edge count. I would go the curve method and import a profile of the shape from Illustrator and extrude it.
[Arrow 3, the column] There are some unusual shadows here. Is that a regular 4x4 cube or is it split into parts? If there are parts here, I recommend swapping this area with a cube. It'll save you trouble when you enter the UV mapping phase.

Thank you thank you
Licawolf: You should give 3D another try! Blender is daunting at first, but once you get your head around it, it's actually very easy. Like 80% of my wallpaper is simply just cubes and cylinders stretched out. Plus Blender is available on Mac! Check out these links:
• TUTORIALS
Blender 3D: Noob to Pro - The #1 tutorial resource for Blender.
Blender 3D Tutorial Links List - An excellent collection of tutorial links.
Blender 3D Architect - Architect-related tutorials for modeling buildings in Blender.
• FREE OBJECTS
Blender Greenhouse - A collection of trees and various plants for usage in Blender.
• UTILITIES
ngPlant - An excellent plant modeling utility. It can export to Blender. (Windows only)
• TEXTURES
MapZone - An awesome free program that generates realistic textures. (Windows only)
Wood Workshop - An awesome free program that generates realistic wood textures. (Windows only)
And I recommend this book: The Essential Guide to Learning Blender
Edit: Oh, and Blender can produce Pixar quality animation. Check this out - Buck Bunny @YouTube

Phew! This took me like a month to make. Ya know that official art with Crono standing in front of the Epoch? This one:

I recreated it in 3D! Here it is:
<-- click me
That above thumbnail leads to a 1280x800 version. However, I have versions for 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x1024, 1600x1200, and 1920x1200 in my Chrono Trigger wallpapers page: http://www.fantasyanime.com/squaresoft/ctpapers.htm
I made it using Blender (free & open source!), Illustrator, and Photoshop. Here's how I compiled this - First I traced over Crono in Illustrator:
<-- click me
Why Illustrator instead of modeling a real Crono in 3D? Well, I didn't feel like it. =P Modeling anything organic in 3D takes FOREVER. Plus I thought vector-Crono would make this art project look more authentic. So with Crono finished in Illustrator, I went on to Blender to model the full scene:
<-- click me
Upon completion, I split it up into 5 different layers, as so:
<-- click me
I did this because the lighting in Squaresoft's art is unnatural and impossible to reproduce within Blender with my current level of skill (or maybe it's not possible?). Anyhow, having everything in layers makes recreating the light an easy task in Photoshop. So with the layers in hand, I produced this in Photoshop:
<-- click me
So through 17 layers I achieved my Epoch Launch desktop wallpaper!
I hope you like it!

I'm curious, what did you do to make it work? Was it just from downloading the patch from idioticidioms's e-mail?

I regularly use both, and I prefer Windows. But I don't harbor any bad feelings for Mac. It's not so bad once you get used to it.
