That's one thing I never really understood, why doesn't Europe get more games than it does why do they get left out so much?

The keyboard is a good point, I myself have used keyboard on a console before.

However, consoles are designed so all you need to do is buy the game. If you have to go purchasing side parts (peripherals) to use the game then, it starts taking away from the purpose of a console anyways.

That aside, even if you DID use a keyboard, I'm not POSITIVE, but I do know that on any standard game, the buttons only correspond with the controller buttons, which means none of the numbers at the top do anything, and anything that isn't an a,b,x,y,l or r (and the window key) won't do anything.
Though they may change this if they start going all MMO on our asses, HOWEVER, that'd take some patching for specific keyboards I'd think, which is why it's hard to go MMORPG on consoles.

Depends on what game you play, like half-life from the PS2 had a feature to allow the use of keyboard and mouse and the controls are just like playing on PC, thats just an example I don't know how many games nowadays do that.

He can't "handle" the controls because they aren't as good or as easily adaptable as a PC.

with the whole more buttons deal both 360 and PS3 are compatible with keyboards and mice.

Yeah, thus showing even more how the home consoles are really nothing more than glorified (outdated) PCs.

If, for whatever bizarre reason, you enjoy a controller, just like you can get keyboards for home consoles, you can get a vast array of controllers for your PC.

you know you don't have to use outdated when everything is outdated.  In my opinion the PS3 either rivals what's out there or is better power wise.  I don't know of any home PC that uses 6 cell processors that would be affordable not to mention you have to overhaul your PC just to run blu-rays.  Even if they are using outdated hardware they seem to be able to keep up with graphics on PCs and they don't have update there console to do so.

I love how this conversation changed from talking about RPGs to what platform is better I could really careless I do whatever I need to do to play the games I want to play, I truly don't have a preference like so many others.

Doom on the SNES was just plain wrong  the only console that can preform as well as the PC with shooters and with a RTS is the Wii (and ds possibly) for one big reason the Wii remote its the only thing that rivals the mouse and thats the with the keyboard is the key to the PC power.

Sounds like to me you just can't handle FPS console controls.  To actually think that NO FPS works on console is just naive and closed minded.

What MMOs are better on a home console than a PC? More buttons=MORE POWER!!!

Where did I say they would be better I didn't I said they could work, and with the whole more buttons deal both 360 and PS3 are compatible with keyboards and mice.

Along w/MMOs, RTSs (nearly impossible to accurately translate onto a home console system) & FPSs are also best played on PC. Home console systems are getting better w/their controls for their FPSs, but nothing beats WASD+a good mouse.

That's your opinion I think FPS on consoles work great in fact they have always worked good even with doom on snes.  With MMOs and RTSs, I don't think RTSs will ever work good, and MMOs work just fine the problem is no one can beat out WoW.

Dude if you actually look at the top it says the list is incomplete, most if not all RPGs made on computer are made by Americans.
Yes it does, and I stated it it to make it extra clear there are a ton of American RPGs on the PC. Which is what he asked.

So am I, but by now it has more than out done PC.  The only thing that truly hasn't switched over yet is MMORPGs and that's only a matter of time before that happens.
That doesn't make sense at all? Role playing games by defintion are games in which you play as a character and fallow in his would. So it can be split in to two major category's open and linear. Now if your talking open gameplay adventuring about just doing as you damn well please(ie. Fallout, Elder scrolls, WoW, Baldurs gate) then PC has the clear advantage not just in library but in interface and ability. Console just can't handle it normal and when it can it at a severe disadvantage ala Morrowind or Oblivion. As for linear It follows a preset character on a preset course the advantage over Freeplay? Story these tend to have epic memorable tales(ie. Final fantasy, Star ocean, Xenosaga, Dragon Quest) This is fully with in the PC power to do and in fact there are many on the PC like Dragon Quest, Ultima, Eye of the Beholder, KOTOR, even FF VII and VIII are on PC.

Sorry I miss read everything I thought you were saying there wasn't hardly any games, I missed his post.  My only problem with PC gaming is the fact that I have to update my system every time I want to play a new game.  Like when I bought my new PC which was around the time the Witcher came out I had to update my PC just to play it, it was only the RAM but good lord.

No where NEAR a full list at all.

Btw I'm a strong advocate for the console out doing the PC

I mean different cultures will do well with different kinds of games. While a lot of japanese games seem, mundane and, strange to us, they sell incredibly fast over in Japan. I think very few RPGs sell well here cause few companies really know how to make an American RPG.

Well that's really not true there are a ton of American RPGs there just all on the PC where we do our best or at least we use to.  When it comes to consoles even though we made the first one with Atari it is a Japanese made thing now. Not everything has to be Americanized I like my Japanese styled things to stay Japanese, I love my American RPGs Mass Effect, KotOR, etc. I just want to be able to go to JRPGs to get a different style of game play and storytelling, you have to have diversity.

And though the series is changing (i think?), you can always point out the Dragon Quest series...the IV-VI remakes on DS are of course, doing great in Japan already...*shrugs*

It's Dragon Quest it ALWAYS does good in japan it majorly out sells FF every time.

Kilfer RPGs aren't all that popular in AMERICA, i have already said this, if you actually look at what those games sell like in Japan you would see why they keep making them they sell a lot.  Which is why we get screwed out of so many games, if it doesn't have squre-enix written on the cover it sales very little, expect for the tales games they seem to be getting more and more popular.  I don't care what anybody thinks it is stupid to just throw something that works perfectly and most people enjoy, it doesn't have to be innovative the story is where it matters most and with that in mind ff12 sucked really bad, I enjoyed the mmo battle engine but the story just wasn't there.

The fact that you just called GTA a crap game, is why most gamers are stereotyped as people who never see light and have no real "social" intelligence, and why I can disregard your post entirely. Lemme guess, Call of Duty 4 was a bad game? Along with the Metal Gear Solid series? And any other game series for that matter that nearly lacks any RPG elements? That's my problem, far too many gamers close themselves to one genre, and are NOT open or flexible about other games.

Oh and about the majorly unsuccessful, I wanna clarify that I don't mean that they were horribly disasters for making money, just that as a WHOLE, turn based fighting games aren't, all that popular. Examples, Eternal Sonata, Lost Oddyssey(don't tell me it was good, it was average, nothing more, nothing less). I could oh, IGN, Gamespot, or google others, but it's not worth the effort. Simply go to a reviewers website of your choice, slide to the RPG's section, and find the average games, and the above average. Most of the average or below, likely consists of turn based combat games.

No I loved the MGS games in fact it is my fav. game series MGS4 was a masterpiece, Call of Duty 4 is a really good game too.  Most of my collection is FPS and why because RPGs suck too much right now to give me a decent story.  Do not judge me because I think GTA is stupid the game it only shows how far our society has fallen to the point where we like to pick up hookers and kill them after words for enjoyment.

Now Lost Odyssey that game sold decent for an RPG in America over 200,000 copes in the first month alone.  Now about how good the game well it is divided depending on the reviewer Game Informer loved the game battle system included, Game Spot praised Lost Odyssey's fascinating cast, and character development, and also called the combat system solid, you notice what it didn't say it didn't say they hated it, and 1UP liked it because of the time button press.  IGN is the only one who totally dismissed the combat but they still recommended it to everyone.  Scores aren't everything if people actually listened to those then most Wii games wouldn't sell(I have a Wii and love it to death, so I am not bashing the system).

Eternal Sonata IGN gave the game an 8.3 claiming that it had some of the best visuals on the 360 and had great combat.  If you ever actually played the game you would know that it doesn't have traditional combat, it only starts out sorta turn based like Star Ocean then moves into a faster action styled turn based combat.  Most people who enjoy RPGs don't mind if it is turn based even the ones who really tired of it like IGN.

Sorry Placid but I'm inclined to disagree. I wasn't saying turn based combat has been REPLACED by run-n-gun games, that combat will most likely stay real-time.

There's a reason that ipods get larger and easier to use. A reason we look for more fuel-efficient cars, faster computers at a reasonable price, ect ect ect.

Turn based combat, player 1 attacks, player 2 attacks, enemy 1 heals, enemy 2 attacks, rinse wash repeat. This method, was used until about, the N64/PS age . . . ever since then, most of the gaming industry has realized there are more effective, fun, interesting ways to handle combat. Admittably There have been a few games in the past that have tried venturing into the past by using turn based combat, but these games were majorly unsuccessful, there's a reason, they're trying to use some classic methods, in a boring way.

Like I said, if a game uses turn based combat, it had better be creative, cause it won't sell most gamers.

Okay for one "most gamers" are playing crap games like GTA so I don't want to hear that crap, two MOST RPGs don't do extremely well in America thats why we get screwed out of a lot of them(dragon quest 4-6 for example).  The only RPGs that sell good are the FF games that's it.

I like both as well, but I don't want all of my RPGs to be action and as sad as it is, it's turning out that way.  Even the new final fantasy is going to be action with turn based elements.  I can't stand to read any review by IGN when it involves RPGs, they dub any game that wants tranditional game play as "out dated" but then turn around and praise games like ff7, its very irritating.
