One funny thing I just found in Guardia Castle.

During the Rainbow Shell questline, when you return to 1000 AD after having King Guardia retrieve the shell in 600 AD, the castle is under lockdown as the King stands trial.  All the guards say something along the lines of "The Chancellor has ordered the castle be sealed while the trial is underway" or something similar.  Except one.

The right guard of the pair guarding the stairwell leading down to the kitchen and up to the courtroom says instead: "Same thing as the left."

Evidently, someone either wanted to joke around, or simply forgot to change a filler line.

I know it's been a long time since I've been active here, but the new release is bringing a bunch of people out of the woodworks, it seems.  Picked up both the game and a DS over the weekend, spent all weekend savoring it (working on the sidequests post-Crono revival now), and decided to stop in and see what was up.  Found this, though, and had to weigh in with my two cents.

So, does this means that the whole Dream Devourer thing is a 'post-game event'? It could make sense that way. Although, how would they get there I don't know.

The point is raised that since this takes place in the old save file after beating the game, where does the fight take place?  Is it in a world after Lavos' defeat, or before?  Why does it have to be clear cut?

If we assume that Lavos' defeat pushes him into the Tesseract, where he joins with Schala, then there is no problem here.  After all, the Tesseract is a side dimension, and is equally accessible from 65,000,000 BC as it is from the End of Time.  Time flows differently there, so Lavos is present after you end the game, even though you haven't beaten him yet.  Both he and Schala are there, despite Lavos still threatening the world, because you shunted him there earlier.

All it requires is thinking of reloading the old save file as a form of time travel.  You're taking the characters back in time to a point before Lavos was defeated, but the Tesseract is unchanging.  It doesn't care what you do, it will remain the same.

Anyway, that's just my two cents; we'll see how they hold up despite having been gone far too long.

It could easily be explained: in searching for her, Magus finds Kid, not Schala.  Despite the fact that he was searching for his sister, not this clone-ish thing, he feels attachment to Kid nonetheless and feels he must protect her as much as possible, so he has her come with him.

Not my idea.  I just agree with it.  Its the idea that Zeality and other guys debated on and basically agreed to long before I came.

True.  We have been trying to explain this since the Compendium opened.  While I don't think that a non-plot hole explanation is in sight anytime soon, new ideas are still welcome.

Anything else?

Yes. Deal with this shit in PMs.

Amen.

This is not the sort of war we want to see, hear, or deal with on this forum.  If you have problems with each other, take care of it yourselves, by yourselves, in private.  If it remains public, it will be taken care of, and I bet neither of you will like it when it is.

Japan, if it had an army, would be the greatest army on earth, and i dont mean the super mecha pirate ninja turbo fighters. They have enough money to make a nuclear weapon, in only 6 MONTHS

Umm... they did have an army at one point, and it didn't do them a lot of good.  They were brave as anybody, and fought tooth and nail.  But even before the bomb, we were beating them back.  The bomb was used only to prevent having to take the home islands by main force.

And as someone else said, building one nuclear bomb in six months wouldn't matter one iota, as if it was determined that they were a threat, they wouldn't be there for long.

Wow... too many to name...

Catch-22 - Reminded me a lot of M*A*S*H (the movie and/or tv show).  Funny, but was hard to follow on occassion.

The Phantom of the Opera - not many people actually read the book; they just watch the play/musical/movie instead.  However, the book is an incredible read, and this stands out as one of the few books I've ever cried at.

The Ender's Game Quartet - excellent series of science fiction books that's more than just action.  It's a philosophical thriller rather than an action story, and is all the stronger for it.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy "trilogy" - all five books of this are awesome.  Now, I wil say that the first couple are better, but it remains funny until the end.

Ruled Britannia by Harry Turtledove - Really great book of alternate history based on one turn of events: The Spanish Armada was not defeated by the British Navy, and successfully invaded and conquered England.  It focuses on Shakespeare and his part in a plot to reinstate Elizabeth as Queen of England.  Sounds far-fetched, but is a great read nonetheless.

Articles of the Federation - most people wouldn't consider a Star Trek political drama to be a good book, but it was an awesome book.  Too bad it came after a 9 book TNG series, at least part of which was required for the book.

Hadriel,  I'm still around, and have repeatedly volunteered to help with story/script, whatever.

Just PM or IM me, anytime.  Unless I'm away, in which case don't IM me. ;)  But seriously, if I can help, I want to.

It does appear that, barring a last-minute miracle, Crono will win, meaning he will most likely face off against Sonic in the semifinals.

Here's hoping he can win that one...  We'll just have to turn back out Sunday and vote.

You're thinking of Kronos, the father of Zeus, if I remember right.

I am now mightily confused. It is not midnight yet, unless your dwelling lies far eastward...
I jest. Badly - I do know it - though it is all I can muster to my mind. I have not a wit for it, and never have. But enough of it, I suppose. I know well what you intended by your winged word. And to it I shall add that: upon that hour cry: all for ZeaLitY, Guardia and Chrono!

(Apologies, my speech seems to have descended into this form, and I am trying at very bad Shakespeare allusions, it seems. I cannot do otherwise, strangely enough, and am constrained to speak so. I believe it to be the fault of all the earlier writing - the five page treatise upon the beliefs of the Lutheran Church, and the reasons by which the Old Testament may be seen in a metaphorical light - which has cast upon me this other style-semblence. To much thought given to words and the ways in which they are to be used does such to me. By all reason it will have left me later, or at the very least tomorrow, and it will torment you no more than this.)

Ai, and now I see the update, and my jest is all but ruined. What woe!

It's official, Dan has finally gone bonkers.

Verily.  It seems that all manner of wit has left this man behind.  Mayhap the rest of this night may restore him to his more natural state?

(I do believe that Daniel doth take this for the jest it is, or on such do I pin my hopes.)

What you mentioned here brought up something else though: what about Robo?  Isn't Robo "kind of" a descendant of Lucca?  From what I've read, Lucca did some of the earliest AI research, and thus "in spirit", he's HER descendant (at least through work, if not biologically).

Lucca had already done her earliest work in AI research.  He's called Gato.  If she had not returned, that alone could have helped someone else continue her research.

Well, ideally it would be done with just a single break and a tab to indent the new paragraph.  On forums like this, a double break is easier, as indentations are reduced to a single space.

Actually, he had the right word, readability.

readability, n
1: the quality of written language that makes it easy to read and understand
2: writing (print or handwriting) that can be easily read [syn: legibility] [ant: illegibility]

On the dialouge... I normally use paragraph breaks between speakers, and try to identify who's speaking with each paragraph of dialouge.  For example:

Quote
"There's too many of them!" Garai exclaimed.  "We'll have to fall back to the forest."

"No," Radius said bluntly.  "This is where the Acacia Dragoons make their final stand.  This is where we shall define ourselves for history, and make sure that they never forget what we made them pay!"

"For Termina, for Acacia, and for Freedom!"  The cry erupting from him, General Viper brandished his sword and charged the mass of Porrean troops in front of him, and not a single Dragoon stayed behind.

Here, I seperated between each speaker, allowing a paragraph break to define when a speaker change was made, and the paragraph itself telling the reader who the new speaker is.  In a two person exchange, that identification may not be needed all of the time, especially if the speaker has a distinctive way of speaking, such as a heavy accent which is conveyed by spelling and syntax, or if they're answering a direct question or such.  However, as a general rule, well defined breaks between speakers and letting the reader know who's speaking are good rules to follow.

General Discussion / Fears
« on: August 19, 2005, 02:21:11 am »
Losing those I love, primarily.  I'm a Christian, so I do believe that there is life after death, but that doesn't make the pain of them not being there any less real.

Other than that... losing the ability to think.  Alzhimer's is particularly horrifying for me.  To lose oneself before you die is a worse fate than most others ever conceived, and to be feared and guarded against at all costs.
