Lavos, the Planet, and other Entities / Re: A Theory About Lavos
« on: December 27, 2012, 06:49:46 am »
The thing about Lavos is that nothing is given about his origins. The most common explanations are detailed in the OP, but any theory we come up with is pure conjecture.

Simply describing a certain entity as an indescribable evil or other unknowable force of nature is a shallow attempt to sound philosophical and grand - an easy way out to describe heady issues.

Seriously?

Lavos' origins are hardly "heady issues". Given that some of the most commonly accepted and probably the most logical origins are as simple as "it was born somewhere else" or "aliens made it", it's really stupid to think of the origins of Lavos as complex by definition.

Also, there are a few that you seem to have left out that would be good examples of other alignments.

I left them out because I thought they didn't deserve mention.

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Chrono Trigger Alignment Chart

NOTE: Yes, I am aware that DnD alignments run contrary to the concept of complex characters. However, I could honestly not care less. I'm only doing this for fun.

Have you heard of DnD alignments? Basically, your DnD alignment depends on both your tendency towards order and your disposition in general. Here I'm going to sort characters from Chrono Trigger to the best of my ability.

LAWFUL GOOD
  • Frog-I want to serve Guardia to the best of my ability!
  • Cyrus-I'm going to beat the Fiendlord!

NEUTRAL GOOD
  • Schala-I just don't want anyone to get hurt.
  • Robo-I wish only to help the organics defeat Lavos.

CHAOTIC GOOD
  • Marle-Screw you, daddy! I'm running away!
  • Lucca-FUCK DA POLICE, let's get out of here Crono!
  • Crono-Time to make a complete ass of the Guardia law enforcement!

LAWFUL NEUTRAL
  • King Guardia-I just want what's best for my kingdom and family.
  • Chancellor-This kingdom needs a better justice system!
  • Ayla-Ayla do everything for tribe.

TRUE NEUTRAL
  • Belthasar-The Blackbird can help you achieve your goals.
  • Melchior-Weapons should be for protecting life, not killing it.
  • Gaspar-Think of me as your guide on time's road.
  • Lavos-I exist only to consume and process...

CHAOTIC NEUTRAL
  • Magus-I just want to save Schala!

LAWFUL EVIL
  • Azala-The Reptites will rule the earth!
  • Queen Zeal-The power of Lavos will make us strong!

NEUTRAL EVIL
  • Dalton-I will institute a new Kingdom of Dalton!
  • Ozzie-Kill all humans!

CHAOTIC EVIL
  • N/A

Hello, everyone. I'm back.

How's things?

Yeah, I've read Chrono Testament. I just felt that it didn't expand enough on the connection. Here's my attempt at expanding the connection:

The most obvious parallel:

Crono=Jesus

  • Crono has power over Holy in the Japanese version: this was probably changed to Light because it would be too controversial for American audiences
  • Crono dies an unjust death (being lasered to death by Lavos is a pretty sucky death, isn't it)
  • Crono is resurrected
  • Crono's resurrection and Easter share some themes (Easter is usually associated with the Easter Bunny and eggs: Crono is revived by an egg)
  • Crono saves mankind (by defeating Lavos)

Now, think about it. Crono didn't just save mankind from Lavos: he redeemed it by defeating the Queen of Zeal. Think about it: Jesus was indirectly slain by human error/sin, and what is the greatest sin? Pride. What is the ultimate symbol of pride in CT? Zeal. Gaspar states:

"That poor woman can finally rest, now that the Black Omen is gone... She's reverted back to a human.."

See? If Crono didn't step in, Queen Zeal would have lived forever in Lavos' eternal nightmare: she states it herself at one point in the game. It is stated in the game that Queen Zeal was once a kind and just ruler before Lavos' influence basically turned her into magical Saren. Thus, I think that Queen Zeal represents humanity as a whole. But where does Lavos fit in all this?

This is simple: Lavos represents sin.

Queen Zeal is corrupted by Lavos, in the same way that humanity as a whole is corrupted by sin.
Crono defeats Lavos and saves mankind as a whole from the hellish future that is 2300 AD and Zeal from the corruption of Lavos.

(And frankly, I know I used "sin" too much: anyone who makes FFX jokes will be shot.)

Guys

You are comparing Lavos, an entity who likely evolved in environments vastly different from Earth's, to creatures that evolved in Earth's environments.

Who says that its aura doesn't somehow allow it to see or something?

...Interesting, so I wasn't the only one who saw it that way. Care to explain your reasoning behind this?

Medina is the name of the town that Muhammad went to after leaving Mecca. Magus went to Medina after leaving Zeal. Magus becomes a prophet and the religious leader of the fiends.

I thought that the Core was just the Inner Shell merged with all the DNA housed within the Inner Shell's chamber. The Right Bit could've been the "heart" or the actual center of Lavos released. The Left Bit could've been a "dummy" to draw suspicion away from the Right Bit.
