The Great To-Do List / Re: [2000] Somehow rip new location backgrounds and all map screens from CT DS
« on: November 30, 2009, 03:46:47 am »
Which ones do we need exactly? Only the DS exclusive maps, or all the maps in CT DS?
I may be able to rip them, though it may take time.
Edit: Although, if I can figure out how to rip them. Desmume has a background viewer tool, but it doesn't show the entire background, just part of it, and it's scrambled. I could do it the old-fashioned printscreening way, but that's going to take time to edit off all the sprites and objects etc.

Time, Space, and Dimensions / Re: Time Error, a question about the end of time and DBT
« on: November 30, 2009, 01:39:46 am »
To my knowledge Schala has been in the DBT since the Ocean Palace incident, meaning she's been there for over 10,000 years. I don't know exactly at what time she started merging with Lavos, though.

Characters, Plot, and Themes / Re: Did Belthasar mindfuck Serge
« on: November 30, 2009, 01:19:25 am »QuoteAfter Lavos was defeated, he was possibly sent to the Darkness Beyond Time. There, he intercepted Schala, who came in from the Ocean Palace Incident; he then merged with her to form a new being, the Time Devourer, capable of consuming all space-time at maturity. Belthasar planned every event in the game so that Serge could get his hands on the Chrono Cross artifact and destroy the Time Devourer.
Schala is pretty and all, but I think Belthasar realized there was more at stake than just a pretty face.
It seems to me on the surface he told everyone he did it because the world's in danger, but personally I think he cared most about saving Schala. Think about it, you can kill the Time Devourer without saving Schala, thus without having to go through ALL the trouble to finally obtain the Chrono Cross. The only thing you'd need is a Time Egg to get to the DBT. That's why I think he cared more about saving Schala then killing the Time Devourer.
Also, in Crimson Echoes he says he'll come up with an elaborate plan just to save her... But being a fangame I don't know if we can consider that canon.
I mean, if you really put it down there, it would be like this.
"Hello, you have two options to save the world:"
"- Take this Time Egg and go kill the Time Devourer"
"- Go through a long chain of events involving Chronopolis, FATE, a Dragon God and an ancient Reptite city, the sacrifice of hundreds of people, and many innocent deaths including your own father and your best friend's father, to get the Chrono Cross to save the girl AND kill the Time Devourer"
Not sure which one I would pick.

Yeah, I know, I loved the little convo he and Gaspar had in Chronopolis
But yeah... He really is that. On the one hand it's really badass, how he could plan all that stuff out. But on the other hand, it's pretty bizarre all the things he pulled. I wasn't really satisfied how he got handled in Cross, I mean they never spoke out to him or something or tried to blame him. I'm glad that was shown in Crimson Echoes, though.

I don't really like how Belthasar used Serge as a tool to free Schala. And I don't really see how Serge is okay with it.
I mean, his father Wazuki was turned by FATE multiple times until he was completely gone, and in the end, he ends up fighting Serge. This wouldn't be too bad if Belthasar wasn't responsible for it.
He keeps appearing, talking about his grand plans, and acting like FATE is an existence not connected to him, but in reality, he's the one who came up with that crazy scheme. Just think about how many people he killed, how many sadness he created, by making Chronopolis and FATE and using them. Wazuki, Miguel, Robo, hell entire Dinopolis + Dragonians and Dragon God, they all died for the sole purpose of freeing Schala.
Not that Schala shouldn't have been freed, but I'm just baffled by how many sacrifices were made in order for it to happen.
What do you think? Couldn't there have been a simpler way, without sacrificing other lives?

The Lost Sanctum - Completed Items / Re: [400] Other Cross Details
« on: November 29, 2009, 01:40:46 pm »
I don't know what the Valencian Cloth mystery means, but to my knowledge, the only time you can get that window frame is before the Black Dragon has woken up, so before the Dragon Quests, and before Home Marbule is restored. You obtain it from the blue NPC past the entrance to Marbule.
I tried it out with various savegames:
- After watching Nikki's Concert, and defeating all Lagoonates in Home Marbule, after the Black Dragon has been awakened, but before actually fighting it. I couldn't get the windowskin, the NPC would only say that the Black Dragon is awake.
- After watching Nikki's Concert, and defeating all Lagoonates in Home Marbule, after the Black Dragon has been awakened, and after fighting it. He still doesn't give the windowskin, he only says he can't believe you defeated the Black Dragon (or, if you enter with humans in your party, that he can't believe humans defeated the Black Dragon).
- Before visiting the S.S. Zelbess with Another Fargo in the party, and talking to Home Fargo, which triggers the entire Marbule thing. Before I did this, I could enter Another Marbule, and the blue NPC would simply say welcome and he gives you the windowskin as a welcome present. Still, this only applies with non-humans in your party, because if you have humans, he simply says he has nothing to say to humans. This same thing applies to after watching Nikki's Concert, the only important variable is that you can't defeat all the Lagoonates in Home Marbule.
So, in reality, this window frame can only be obtained during the time you're in Lynx' body, before or after you trigger Nikki's concert, but before you purge Home Marbule of the Lagoonates. Once you've killed all the Lagoonates, causing the Black Dragon to wake up, you can't get this anymore. After the visit to Home Fort Dragonia (or Chronopolis) the blue guy returns to his usual dialogue, but by then you also can't get it anymore since you have Serge's human body.
I hope this clears it up.

Heights, I guess, and darkness. I can't stand utter darkness. Not that I start crying about possible monsters hiding in the closet or whatever, I just feel uncomfortable.

I think that, wherever Janus would have ended up, some kind of race, or some kind of species would have been there for him to use and manipulate to achieve his goals.
I also think he didn't know how to summon Lavos yet, he learned that later. That's because of the elaborate summoning circle and statues, and the spell easily backfiring when used.

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Re: What would you do if Lavos came out of the ground?
« on: November 28, 2009, 05:26:36 pm »
The only thing that's ever shown is fire raining from the heavens and explosions taking place.
I presume it just rained fire for a while, and afterwards Lavos moved to Death Peak, corrupting nature and rotting the planet away to what we see in 2300 AD.
As for my answer; if Lavos would come out of the ground, it would mean that the bounds of reality have been broken, because Lavos isn't real. With the bounds of reality broken, I could just imagine a Epoch in my mind and make it real. Then I would take it and fly to the End of Time, in hopes that there are some heroes waiting there who I can recruit on my quest to destroy Lavos.

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Re: Chrono logo

Oh, right. I almost forgot to ask:
Would anyone here happen to have the ITC Serif Gothic fonts? What I'm currently using is a fanmade Chrono font from the Novel website, but the one actually used in later releases of the official logo is called ITC Serif Gothic (heavy). It's a commercial font though, so kind of hard to get without paying $30 dollars.
Also I don't know if it's alright to ask that here, since it might not be entirely legal. But oh well just thought I'd ask.

Hehe, you mean this one or the one before? I've been switching them around.
But yeah, I'm working on something, but too early to make a fuss about yet. I don't know how things will go.

Polling / Re: Which Chrono character would you date?
« on: November 28, 2009, 02:30:37 pm »
It's difficult to go for anyone but Schala for me.
Marle is alright, but she has a certain tomboyness and wildness I don't like. Sort of like "HEYYYYY YEAH LET'S DO THIS WOOHOO". I like enthusiasm, but it can be overdone.
Lucca is alright too. Actually I kind of like her character I think, she's not selfish at all, and she doesn't brag a lot even though she's way more intelligent then most of the crew. Only thing is, she's so nerdy and the big glasses and all.
Ayla... Too prehistoric... Over the course of Trigger she gets better, but still... I couldn't see myself together with her.
As for Chrono Cross, there's a whole lot of more options here, but still not many appealing for me.
Kid is cool, but wayyy too tomboyish, like, way worse then Marle. She needs to open up a little and let go of that tough girl act.
Leena is sort of cool, but she can be kind of hot headed and selfish. Bitchy. Same with Lisa from the element shop.
All the other girls in Cross is no no. Harle is cool as a character, but that french accent and the outfit would drive me crazy in time.
But Schala... Schala is so... Selfless, caring. Warm. It's like, she always worries about others before she worries for herself, always. None of the other girls in CT or CC do that. Everyone has at least one moment where they're being selfish, but Schala never has that. It's a bit unrealistic, but really appealing.

Polling / Re: Did you ever cry while playing the games?
« on: November 28, 2009, 02:19:11 pm »
Hmm, yeah.
First time was when I saw the FMV with Crono being killed. Without the FMV it was a sad scene, but the FMV really improved it. Even seeing Magus' expression, and seeing Schala lieing there on the ground, helped the environment greatly. But what I thought was really awesome, was when Crono remembered Janus saying "One amongst you... Will shortly perish". I couldn't keep my eyes dry watching that.
The second time was some tears of joy during the ending of Chrono Trigger, hearing "To Far Away Times" while watching the Epoch flying through the nightsky. Beautiful. Simply beautiful.
The third time, I believe, was while playing Chrono Cross, that scene with Serge on the S.S. Invincible, after Lynx' attack on Hermit's Hideout, and when he remembers all his times together with Kid. Back then I really loved Serge and Kid together as a couple, and I really thought he cared so deeply about her.
The fourth time, Chrono Cross orphanage scene. Not so much the first part as the last, with Serge and Kid standing on the hill overlooking the flames, with the little Kid saying "Are you going to go away? Are you going to leave me?" and "Your cheek... It's wet...?" With that beautiful music behind it, Star Stealing Girl. I couldn't keep my eyes dry.
Finally, during the Chrono Cross ending. Schala's whole speech and all that, and the feeling of accomplishment, the wedding picture, and the beautiful song Radical Dreamers... Stunning. Simply stunning.
So yeah, I had some emotional moments while playing Trigger and Cross for the first time. I don't know if you can really say crying, but my eyes did go foggy and wet. I don't care if that makes me a sissy or something; I like to think of it as the story being conveyed very well to the player. Kato really did an amazing job. For Chrono Cross too.

Wow, thank you all very much for helping me out so much. I really appreciate it.
By opening the the PDF in Illustrator, I was able to delete everything off the logo but the C-clock and import it in Photoshop as a Smart Object, so I can scale it to any size without losing quality. This solves my problem, I think.
Thanks all! Keep the dream alive
