I was able to figure out how to move exits, but much beyond that escaped me.

How do I edit from the location? And any NPCs will do.

Chrono Trigger Modification / Trying to make a hack, don't know where to start.
« on: November 10, 2007, 05:08:09 pm »
Hey, guys.
I'm starting to work on my final project for a digital art class I'm in, and the focus of it is supposed to be "interactivity." I've been thinking about it, and I want to use a video game format for the project. It would progress through three scenes/locations -- Millennial Fair, Ocean Palace or the Black Omen, and then either Keeper's Dome or parts of Geno Dome.
I'd want to hack the dialogue, and add in a character sprite to guide you along -- once you talk to that sprite, it starts up the story, leads you up to the the telepod and you get transported to the next place.
In the next portion, I'd want to add sprites and dialogue and go through a few screens, seeing more of the story. I'd then create another exit and have the player go through there to get to the last part.
For the last scene, they'd go through the story and then ideally would either be surrounded by robots, prompting the "game over" screen, or would just be destroyed by the mother brain.
...Is this possible at all? I've been playing around with RPGmaker and Temporal Flux and seem to be woefully inadequate at both. I also can't find "dialogue" in Temporal Flux -- it has everything else in the Strings section but that.
Any help is much appreciated. I really need to get started on this soon so I can find out early if it's not going to be possible.

Editorials and Features / Chrono Trigger Recollections
« on: August 11, 2005, 12:42:26 am »
My older brother was the RPG nerd far before I ever was. It was because of him that I was able to get into Chrono Trigger. He had awesome SNES games -- CT, FFIV, FFVI, SMRPG, Super Mario World, Mario Paint... I started with FFIV, and I was pretty young at the time. It always took me so long, though, because I couldn't read all that well -- hence why I prefered simpler games like CT and FFIV. I never managed to beat FFIV the first time I played it, and instead picked up CT. I fell in love with the game quite quickly. I especially fell in love with Magus, which started a fan obsession that would last me quite a while. I stil love 'im, though I can assure you much of my enthusiasm has ebbed. I was also quite a Lucca fan, though I never became quite as hooked on her as I was on Magus (and Schala, too). CT was the first game that I beat, and I was damn proud of myself. As time went on and I played the game more, my knowledge of the internet grew and with it my knowledge of the game as well as my appreciation for it. I checked out fan sites and read fanfiction and looked at fanart. I even tried doing some fanart of my own. The climax of my CT obsession was probably in middle school, when I was still getting the hang of RPGs, which I loved but found kind of difficult, if only because I didn't like battling a lot. CT really helped lead me into my RPG love, with it's cool graphics, awesome story, wonderful music, and characters. It remains one of my all-time favorite games today.
Hopefully that wasn't too scattered. >>; I also figured that I should do this over here instead of at Icy's.

I read Ender's Game, but wasn't too compelled to read further into the series. It was a good book, though.

Order of the Black Wind. It's a nice, small forum. Kind of inactive at the moment, but a lot of people are still around. I think we just need some fresh blood to really get back going.

Characters, Plot, and Themes / Crono's Cat?
« on: May 08, 2005, 07:50:21 pm »
If the random cat(s) in 600 AD can not theoretically be Crono's, then does anyone else have an explaination for it? Could these cats, as Lord J esq suggested, be a "vital component of the planet and of the space-time continuum?" Or could it just be Squaresoft having a bit of fun?

Polling / 5/14/05 - How did you first learn about Chrono Trigger?
« on: May 08, 2005, 07:43:54 pm »
My brother bought it around when it first came out for SNES. When I wanted an easy RPG to get into when I was little, he told me to play both that and FFIV.

Characters, Plot, and Themes / Serge = Janus Theory
« on: April 27, 2005, 03:20:33 pm »Quote from: Sentenal
Serge cannot be Janus reincaranted because of their innate color. Serge is white. Janus would be Black.
How can you assume that? A reincarnation isn't a direct link of the previous character -- Janus was more of a black-innate type. Serge's personality, however, was more "white." If Serge was Janus, then of course, he's have to be a black innate. However, since we're talking about a reincarnated form, that doesn't even apply.

Characters, Plot, and Themes / A few questions about Magus.

I'm pretty much with Radical_Dreamer on this one...All of that Janus to Magus stuff can be blamed on Ted Woosley...nyuk nyuk...
Although, Radical_Dreamer, I thought that maou meant demon king not wizard king...I had never heard wizard before...
To the first part: That's entirely possibly, given what he did to FF6. Meh.
"Ma" is a Japanese root word for things like magic, sorcery, etc. ("Mahou," for example, is "magical." However, then you get words like "Youma," which is another word for demon/monster/etc.) I've also seen "Ma" in things related to demons, like youma. Japanese is kind of hard to translate when it comes to concepts like magic, evil, etc., just because their perception of it is different from ours. "Ou" is king. So, both translations are, in fact, acceptable.

Yeah, it was a tapestry -- I have a saved game file in Zeal for my own obsessive reasons, so I just ran and took a screenshot.
Edit: And hey, look -- They are different.
