While I have said I lean more toward the Link's Awakening 1:1 remake because it's less prone to error, my ideal Trigger remake, assuming it were definitely going to be executed well, would be more of the FF7R side of things, in spirit. Expand the world to show the scope that wasn't possible before, that part sounds great. But the actual look, I would want it to take heavy inspiration from the most recent Dragon Quest and Dragon Ball games. Retain the essence of Akira Toriyama's designs as fully and completely as possible, honor the man.

Yeah I'm confused why a port would be considered an option, they did that already. I would definitely be fine with anything that felt true to the original, change doesn't concern me that much. What does concern me is if they go the FF7R route and just never finish it. A whole game of just the Millenial Fair, for example; no thanks. If they can make whatever remake they want to make feel complete, then I will be satisfied.

General Discussion / Re: Paradox free time-travel possible?
« on: February 29, 2024, 10:19:26 am »
It is crucial to emphasize that this is only a theoretical idea, and no one has successfully achieved time travel.
If you wanna get really particular about it, no one has achieved extranormal time travel. Everyone experiences normal time travel, moving forward in time at a standard rate.

Chrono Trigger Modification / Re: Its finally real
« on: January 13, 2024, 01:55:00 am »
If one were interested in contributing alt costume sprites, what would one need to know about? Are there full sprite sheets of the characters available that can be edited and still be imported? Is it possible to have more than one alt per character?

Kajar Laboratories / Re: About CT (and CC/RD) scripts
« on: February 12, 2023, 03:16:13 am »
Correct me if I'm wrong. The closest you may find for CC is my somewhat cleaned up version of the Cross Radical Dreamers Script here http://chronofan.com/Black/Publications/en_revised.csv

It's a CSV file which you can open in any spreadsheet application or upload to Google Drive and open in Sheets. You can parse through it like any Excel spreadsheet and in Sheets all Excel formulas work so you could write one that splits the names and the dialogue text into separate columns or whatever you need to do.

In it, I did things like consolidate any dialogue that is not specific to a named character down to the most generic readable form, intended for analysis of the original lines. If you're not aware the character-specific dialogue was all written normally with accents "baked in" but in instances where any party member could say a given line, the line would have certain "accent" marker characters injected in that would be chosen to differentiate them per character, without needing to either keep them generic or add a ton of branching conditionals in the code in each of these instances just for text variation. So for those generic "party member" lines, where no character is named, it is not exactly what you would see in-game. I changed some variable names that would be replaced in-game with real in-game item or element or character names with generic text that describes the thing, like "Sample Element".

Also some things I did not do. I didn't remove some markup that I found interesting or useful to someone reading. For example, a tilde character ~ was used to represent line breaks during dialogue, which can be important for figuring out where the emphasis was, if it's in the middle of a line it's almost like an ellipsis. I did not reorganize any lines to be more in order of appearance, nor did I remove the menu text, so you will still need to manually delete some things in there for your purposes. I did not add NPC labels that were not already there for unnamed characters, so some text is "floating" without context, in fact there are some random NPC names in some rows near the bottom, I may have orphaned them.

Characters, Plot, and Themes / Re: Lucca's hemet and cameos?

In a multiverse, everything is canon. Did it happen to the same Lucca is probably your question, and to that I say, why not, sure.

Yeah that turned out incredible!

Check out http://chronofan.com/Black/Publications/Chrono_Cross_RDE_Localization_Files.7z

Unzip and find the "en" file. What helped me read it was opening it in Textpad (with Word Wrap), and then I did a few find/replaces on commands (especially the "wait 20, wait 40", etc.) and just replaced them with nothing, to delete them out. Same with the line break commands (the "/n" you see everywhere). The random party text is still almost impossible to read, though, due to the accent operators.

I took that and went a bit further with it, chose the generic/normal option for each sound in the accent system, did find/replace across the whole doc. Should be more readable now, though I cannot help you with the jumbled order it's in. I couldn't upload a CSV to a post here so I put it on MediaFire. Here it is if you think it could be of use: https://www.mediafire.com/file/2omx8wzcmmijbbw/en_-_en.csv/file

That is crazy looking, to the extent that I'd guess it wasn't typed. It looks generated or compiled. I think even though it looks like you've found code, that code was the output of another tool.

I've been playing PC games mostly these days, and some VR. I'm hungry for a JRPG in VR and coincidentally one came out called Ruins Magus. I tried the demo, will probably buy it on sale.

I don't know why but Rocket League has become one of my staples. Something about how the car controls feels so good and intuitive to me. Have also dipped my toes into competitive multiplayer shooters, tried a few but settled on Apex Legends. I play with a friend mostly. And I'll tell you what, I am not good at Apex Legends.

For those like myself who haven't bought the new version yet, here are the new music tracks. The arrangement of the song from Radical Dreamers brought tears to my eyes. I never thought I'd hear it sound like that. It's at 6:40

Chrono Cross Modification / Re: New Party Mods
« on: April 20, 2022, 03:30:55 pm »
I would love to see a mod with a reduced/minimalist character list, with only story-necessary characters recruitable, or even minor story revisions to whittle that number down even more, get closer to 7, and minor character ability changes to rebalance for the new roster. Rather than making it bigger, I think Cross would be improved by decreasing the scope.

Chrono Cross HD Edition / Re: Goals, Progress, & Discussion

I'll mock up those subtitles if someone else can handle the transparency settings and the logo insertion stuff.

Seeing them might help folks decide which they like best.
