General Discussion / Re: Final Fantasy XIV: The verdict is in, and it's not pretty.
« on: October 13, 2010, 02:56:23 am »I know FF11 is an MMO, but everything in it costs real money -- not just the subscription, but everything.Funny, the only thing I've spent money on with respect to FF11 is:
* The game (including keeping up to date on expansions, mostly - when they started these mini-expansions, I switched to "I'll catch up when I can do so for $15 rather than $30);
* The subscription;
* and a security token for the hell of it.
You don't really have to funnel more money into it than that. (It's still somewhere around $1600 that I've thrown at it, but I've been playing since April '04.)

General Discussion / Re: Final Fantasy XIV: The verdict is in, and it's not pretty.
« on: October 11, 2010, 02:03:24 am »Ever since FF14 was announced, my thought was Square + MMO = not going to be good.Speaking as someone who plays FF11 (also an MMO), and forwarding the opinion of one of the major forums covering FF11, "it's like they took everything they did right in FF11, and purposely ignored it, then took everything they did wrong and repeated it".

The Lost Sanctum - Completed Items / Re: [10000] Add images of Cross models to encyclopedia pages
« on: October 08, 2010, 02:02:06 am »I'm curious as to how you are extracting these.We have magical superpowers, though I'm not sure how Zeality's ability to summon a plate full of spaghetti and meatballs at any time is relevant to anything.

It's obviously that stupid jellyfish that only takes damage from red Elements.

See, things like this are why I need to write an RPG engine in C# using XNA.

Welcome / Birthday / Seeya! Forum / I AM AN AIRPLANE

Apologies for the long-term absence. Things have been... insane. (They get worse again around the middle of January - the place I'm renting at is being foreclosed on, and the sale is supposedly 1/13/11 - but at least the holidays are out of the way by that point.)

Site Updates / Re: C&D: Director's Response
« on: October 21, 2009, 02:39:33 am »Is this where we Internet Stalk these guys and then serve them with a C&D notice?QuoteOr if Square decided to sue the CE team over this other team's completion of the alpha.This is what I worry about. If we expected Square Enix to behave rationally we wouldn't have to worry about this, but we don't really expect Square Enix to behave rationally after what happened.
(after which we get hit with a C&D notice by SE for no good reason)

Chrono Cross Modification / Re: Adding Cross models and images to encyclopedia
« on: October 12, 2009, 03:29:14 am »Hmm, it seems all models are flipped left-right.That would be a case of Blender's coordinate system is opposite-handed to the PS1's. Shouldn't be too hard to fix in the importer - it's just a simple sign-flip on any one coordinate (best option would probably be X) when loading the vertices.
Now Dario holds the Masamune with his left hand.

The Lost Sanctum - Completed Items / Re: Decipher the Cross Ending Enigma
« on: October 01, 2009, 05:25:10 pm »Ah, that helps a lot. So beyond that first outfit, everything written on the subject is probably false.Barring there being a fieldscript opcode for "load model from Room X", yes.
Actually, come to think of it, changing between party-outfit Kid and orphanage-outfit Kid should be possible (the party models should always be accessible), but any other change would require being able to load models from other rooms.

Chrono Trigger DS Analysis / Re: Just a Lazy Port?
« on: August 21, 2009, 06:14:31 am »Like most of the PSX ports (idk about Origins though, to be fair)Origins is a full-on rewrite. It's probably what the PSP re-re-re-re-re-re-re-releases of FF1 and FF2 were based off of, though.

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Re: Size of Chrono Trigger
« on: August 21, 2009, 06:11:12 am »I believe it refers to the amount of data that could fit on an snes cartridge. As for what took up so much space, idunna. Anybody who worked on TF back in the "before time" may be able to tell you.The first Star Ocean and Tales of Phantasia both use a 48MBit cartridge (and Star Ocean still has to compress stuff quite a bit to fit into that).
But yeah, it's definitely up near the top end of cartridge size.
