Personally I liked it.  I thought it was a great quirk for game play.  What about you'll?

Fair enough, Bossy McHouswife it is.

Spoilers

Heh, when you meet Chrono on the beach and he says, I hate to break this to you but Lynx was your father.  He got transformed into the thing you most feared at the time, a panther.  If it was now he would have transformed into Lenna three days into her period and without a necklace.

I think I'm going to try for the developers ending.  And then I might do a full reup just to get all the characters and beat a few optional bosses, no hurry though.  I watched a lot of the alternate endings and they were funny as hell.

Spoilers, I wanted to make a few comments about the game.  I liked the spiritual successor characters; ie Glenn, Luccia (though I didn't use her) Guile etc.  What the hell was Dark Serge's motivation with all the terrorizing?  I loved how he had a lot of face time in the alt. endings.  If the freaking Shaker Brothers could make the Dragoon cut how is Glenn not like a First Lieutenant or something.  Marcy is a kid for godsakes, how quickly did she work up the dragoon ranks to become a Deva?

Lastly, how come out of all the beautiful women in the game, many of whom are salivating over Serge, that I get stuck with Dumpy McHousewife?  I'm the arbiter of time dammit!

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Finally Finished Chrono Cross
« on: July 13, 2009, 02:23:48 am »
As the topic title states, I beat Chrono Cross for the first time two nights ago.  I have to say, it was a very good game.  I just wished I hadn't spoiled most of the good stuff for myself prior to beating it.  It was a hard game to beat, and not because of difficult bosses.

I first started playing it back in '05 I think on my computer with the help of an emulator.  I got to the dead sea and then puter went kaput.  After my hard drive failed I took a break and tried again in like '07 I think, this time on the PlayStation.  I got a little bit further and lost interest because I couldn't locate the dragon gods to get their blessing.  Then a dog used my memory card as a chew toy.

Third times a charm I guess.  I made it all the way to the end of Terra Tower when my disc decided it was time to become unplayable.  I promptly facepalmed and eventually bought a new copy online.  When it finally got to my house I was ready to go!  I punched the USPS guy in the face and loaded the PS up.  Final boss was difficult because I was trying to do it the music way for my first time and I had to line up all the notes right.  Good thing my sister was on hand to help me discern which note went where.

I liked everything pretty much, although the plot is hard to follow 'cause they throw a few new factions at you.  The only compliant I really have is that the ending after the final battle is a bit of a letdown.  I guess everything got explained that needed before the final boss... but still... oh well.  I highly recommend this game to anyone who claims to love RPG's.

Site Updates / Re: The Month That Could Have Been Announcement

Sorry to be dragging up things that should just go away but I'd like a chance to refute some of the claims made in this thread.

I personally know of a guy who was pirating movies not for profit and was caught and sentenced to six months in jail(thanks to overcrowding shortened to three).  I don't know if he was also subject to fines, but if so they weren't in the hundred thousand range.

People can be sent to jail and can probably be fined as well.

I haven't posted in awhile.  In fact I hadn't been to the site for a while until about a week ago when I began to see things unfold as they are now.  I want to offer my condolences for what happened, it was all so unnecessary.

Everyone please keep your head's up, this is still a great board with fantastic content.  I think you'll find the future of this board in a much happier state then it finds itself presently.

Magic, Elements, and Technology / Re: The technological rise of Porre
« on: October 19, 2008, 04:49:55 pm »
This always got me, Porre becoming an overnight (ok oversequel) superpower.  I just didn't see it when I was playing through Chrono Trigger.  Obviously people will lust for more power, but it's quite a trick to get a large group of people all together on something like that.  What kind of motives do we know of that would cause this seemingly change in cultural philosophy?

Or did the developers just not want Guardia to be the bad guys and drew a new superpower out of a hat?

Good points from both of you, thank you very much!  You guys both brought up things that I have overlooked.  Anyone else have 2 cents?

I enjoy these boards very much, but sometimes I think that posters fail to see game play and storyline as separate entities.  What I mean by this is that in any video game, game play is very important, and so sometimes aspects of the game must be tweaked with the understanding that it will have no effect on the storyline.

Here is my point, do you think that the creators of Chrono Trigger intentionally limited the amount of magic elements to four to suit game play needs(not enough characters to reasonably fill the blanks, didn't want too big of a spell library ect.) and in Chrono Cross because they had more characters and a more powerful medium to tell their story, or for whatever reason they were able to create six elements?

Please respond to this thread if you have the time, I value everybody's opinion on these boards and recognize that I am by no means a scholar on the subject.  This is for personal nerd research, but please remember I see divisions between game play and storyline.  I'll post my opinion in depth if this heats up.

Site Updates / Re: Summit for Chrono Break
« on: February 25, 2007, 04:41:38 am »
How about some ideas for how the game would work?  In Chrono Trigger, you traveled between times, in Cross, you traveled between dimensions, well what would be unique about Break?  I would love for a sequel to be made, but not if it was a souless rehash or revival tour-esq.  So what rules of space time are there left to break?

Earth and Air magic.  Obviously left out for gameplay reasons...

Site Updates / Re: Lavos Did Not Control Evolution

So Lavos didn't control all of evolution but did control human evolution?  Sorry to ask but the details are a little sketch to me still.

General Discussion / Re: best villian in the SE universe.

I have to argue on the point that Kefka acomplished his goals.  I certainly never heard him say that he wanted to live in a junk tower and shoot white lightning at people now and then.  The only time in the entire game that we get a Kefka "mission statement" is at the end when he says he wants to kill every living thing on earth.  And well, he doesn't even get that close.

Now Sepheroth, his goal is to crash a meteor into a planet and then absord the life energy that gathers around said crash point.  Now let me tell you, that rock was inches away from hitin' the damn ground inches.

I digress, Lavos loses points in the personality department, and for me, thats a big blow.  So I vote for Golbez from Final Fantasy IV.  He has a deep enough character, and playing the retraslated version really gave me a better look at his comedic timing.  He is both good and evil and Most Imporantly he is an excellent foil for the hero.  And that my friends, is why they invented villians in the first place.

golbez loses simply for having this line "Now I, golbez, Am going to knock you all down!"

what the fuck was that?

Yo, homeboy.  You're thinking of Garland, not Golbez
