Lavos, the Planet, and other Entities / Re: Lavos Question
« on: December 11, 2007, 06:27:44 pm »
I sort of felt that there are two possible reasons why Lavos would emerge when he did: A) He could sense a threat somehow (also part of the reason why he took out Zeal) or B) it was chance, IE he'd had enough food and it was time to get on with the procreation already. There couldn't be any other logical reason why he'd CHOOSE to emerge than those two. Possible he was forced out? Maybe a science project we now know nothing about since the Lavos timeline is gone?

Well the game implies that when Lavos arose in 1999 AD it was by choice; he came to the surface to spawn and send the buggers off into space. Logically, he couldn't send them off into space very well if they were covered by several miles of the earth's crust. I suspect he tried to kill off humanity and all life at that point just so that his spawn would have a safe playpen, as it were.

As for the first time, I maintain that he is really just grumpy when he wakes up.

No, you see, there are only two reasons Lavos would attack (to the extent he did): instinct or planned aggression. If he was just "grumpy" I rather doubt he'd eliminate all traces of biological life outside the domes unto the farthest reaches of the planet. It doesn't make sense. He didn't do that in 12000 BC, after all, merely took out Zeal and went back to sleep. Perhaps then he was "grumpy". But not in 1999 AD.

Lavos, the Planet, and other Entities / Re: Does Lavos communicate?

I don't believe that it can communicate in language, no. In terms of emotion, imagery, and dominating others mentally, I think it can, and easily.

I think it's safe to say that however the laws of physics and quantum mechanics limits us in the real world, the introduction of various "elements" and magic render those concerns unnessecary.

But that would be very unusual since Lavos is nowhere near that large when it is seen in retrospect to the overworld maps. I wouldn't say it isn't inside or on top of the mountain, but the entire mountain can not be just Lavos's shell.

It *could* be. Who knows what process is involved in flinging Lavos Spawn to other worlds? Maybe his shell HAD to expand to accomadate the breeding process...

I am honestly not sure if anyone suggested this possibility before (and if so, ignore me), but: What if Crono and Co. instead of resolving to personally fight Lavos instead chose to "spread the word", warn the denizens of 1000 AD about Lavos?

Given 999 years to prepare, do you think they might be able to win through somehow? Would Lavos sense the change in the wind and strike preemptively?

Personally I think that if the entire WORLD concentrated it's resources on finding a way to counter Lavos, and given that much time, it could do it. Opinions?

I am referring to the manner which you jump at people on certain threads, and turn it into a mini battle...which isn't happening so much now, but it did happen a lot in your earlier posts.

I'm sorry if I've offended you; I really didn't mean to   .

Netiquette is something that everyone should be required to learn.

Frankly I'm shocked that this forum expanded as much as it did over the time I've been a member. I've mostly lurked, but I'm pleased to see a CT-based forum thrive so long after any new games in the series.

Why don't you visit a museum and look at some moon rocks.

Yeah, because if I won't trust tons and tons of documented evidence I'll totally put my faith in a box labeled "These rocks are from the Moon. No really."

Totally.

Then you aren't going left or right "in time". You're going left or right through different dimensions. Time travel is not the same thing as what is basically a traveling to a different universe.

I could swear that in the Ocean Palace Magus says something like "Aggh! He's draining my power!" Something like that. Probably just to account for the fact that he's suddenly a weakling compared to his former self when he joins you, but still.

No matter the effort, a moon landing would be a few years away because there is no existing hardware to do the job.  As for Apollo moon hoax conspiracies, you should review this website: http://www.badastronomy.com/.

Yeah, they don't really provide proof that the hoaxes are wrong. They provide counter arguments, without citing and linking their source. The site I was reading the theory about the hoaxes from had cited and documented everything that they were using in their arguments.

I found it an interesting dichotomy that the nation that appeared the least militaristic of all the nations you see conquers the one that appears the most militaristic.

I guess Porre was the gale that broke the ancient oak, that stood so proudly before the storm. It appeared invincible in it's hubris, but was humbled.

Pure speculation.  We know the ideal of the planet, and it was the Reptite Dimension.  I don't see how a shattered ruin of what could have been could be the planet's dream.

Yeah, I agree.

Also, I don't think it is completely unreasonable that the very lowest sections of the Lair couldn't have been built firmly enough to push their foundations further into the Earth, rather than being outright destroyed. Conventional explanations are not completely discounted already, I hope?
