Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Bronzerang?

For example, if you fight the Hydra, you get a star there, but when you face Harle, you only get a stat bonus. If you DONT fight the hydra, you get the star level at Harle.

Actually, it doesn't matter which path you take and you don't get a star level from Harle (either that, or I've got a glitched disc...).  Normally, I always take the path to not save her so I can get some decent characters recruited.  So in reality, I don't remember if fighting the dwarves was also a star (or if the Pentapus was...), but I think if you don't save Kid, you actually lose 2 stars.  Granted, some may go nuts over that, but it doesn't really worry me too much even on a regular new game as your overall stats aren't going to be too much different anyway throughout your first game.

General Discussion / Whats your Chrono Trigger Story?
« on: March 12, 2006, 05:39:21 pm »
lol You remind me of myself as far as getting into video games at an early age.  I started playing games at 3, but unfortunately, at my time of being that young, we only had the games like Pac-Man, Missile Command, Centipede, and the rest of the Atari games.  :D  In other words, I'm near 25 now.

Anyway, getting back to the topic at hand.....My first time playing CT was (I think) about 2 years after it had been released.  A friend of mine told me about the game and being that he noted I liked the FF games, I should try CT out.  Being that I heard good things about the game in the past, I took his word for it and decided to try it out at his house while I was hanging out.

Now, he decided to go an opposite direction of what most gamers would do and he asked me if I wanted to beat the game immediately.  I said "sure" so he decided to get a NG+ going for me.  He guided me through the "cheap" method to fight Lavos and the first ending I ever saw was the development room ending.  This could be something to do of why I like the development room endings (or it could just be that I think the developers are just funny and extremely messed up...).

At any rate, a few weeks later, I asked him if I could borrow the game from him and he let me.  Despite his "advice", I started with a true New Game rather than a NG+ because I don't believe in cheating and I wanted a challenge.  I could not stop playing this game from that moment forward.  It got to the point where I kept replaying the game over and over and about a month later, he was kind of getting on my ass for me to give it back.  :D

I think it was about 3 years later that I saw another friend of mine had this game.  I played it for a bit and got to the part of the bridge war in 600 within about 2 hours (or less (I don't know for sure as this was 6 years ago...)).  But he couldn't let me borrow it because he was borrowing it from someone else.  I think later that day, I called a local game store and asked if they had it in stock.  They had a used copy so I went there immediately, bought it, and finally had the benefit of having my own copy.

Of course, when I heard a re-release was coming out for PSX, I went and bought that too, but in that case, it was mainly for the sake of getting FF4 and because I didn't own a copy of that.  But I was still quite impressed with all the extras that the PSX CT had and made it my priority once again to unlock all endings and see all the bonus features.

But anyway, that's my story regarding CT.

Hmmm....I didn't know that you could get Mel a lot earlier...I'll have to try that out next time I take her path.

While this part may be a little off topic, I guess Razzly isn't so bad in a sense.  I think it's just the "fairy" nice attitude that annoys me and the constant use of "Tee-hee."  I mean, who uses a phrase like that anymore?  :D  But I guess she's not so bad based on she's one of the few Triple Tech characters in that game (unfortunately, it requires her Lv7 tech and we all know that's a very conditional tech to acquire).

A little back on topic, if stealing is based on your percentage rate, maybe that's why Kid misses a lot with me.  But then again, I normally steal from every type of enemy.  Boss fights are still usually successful all the time.

But the Golem Twins were really tough for me to beat. Their attacks were just too much. I ended up using Robo and Crono's Max Cyclone to take one out and the last one was easy.

The best way I found to take these guys out was by having either Frog and/or Marle in your party.  Use any other characters and/or methods of attack, but ALWAYS make sure Water 2 or Ice 2 is cast last in the character turns.  That way, they'll copycat water and attack with it.  And their water attacks by far were the least lethal for me.

Polling / 3/12/05 - Which is your favorite Black-innate CC character?
« on: March 10, 2006, 04:03:38 pm »
Guile by far being that he's got extremely cool (and powerful) magic attacks.  I guess Grobyc is alright, but just about every other Black innate character sucks.

Glenn by far due to reasons I've stated in other threads in this forum.

Karsh would definitely be number two for me though as while he's got an out of control ego, he's extremely powerful and has no problem in most fights (pending you give him a Stamina Ring or Belt as his regular recovery rate sucks).

Radius is also up there due to while he set his sword down, he's still decently powerful in both attack and magic power.

Serge wins mainly because his attack and magic power far exceed just about anyone else.  That and he's one of the few CC characters that can use actual magic.

Serge = Mastermune + Flying Arrow = OWNED :)

Actually, once he got the Mastermune, I always thought that he did better damage with Dash & Slash.  Of course, don't forget to add in the Sunglasses on him too.  ;)

I liked Steena because she always had extra info on almost anywhere you go and I guess she was alright with attack and magic, but at the same time far from the best at either.

Riddel was also cool just because of the nice, innocent personality she had.  Her magic power was also pretty decent.

Am I the only one who thought the first battle against Magus was one of the easiest in the game (even for my first time) >_>?

No, I thought he was quite easy myself and I did beat him on my first time playing.  Just the amount of HP at the point most people are at in CT is the only thing that would be semi-intimidating.

Anyway, I chose MB, SOS option.  However, I thought the Mother Brain was easy.  A blast of Luminaire, followed by the most powerful attacks my other two characters had at that time (I don't remember who I had my first time around as that was years ago...) and I sent her packing with ease.

But Son of Sun drove me insane the first time around as I didn't know how to fight him at all....I don't want to remember how many times I reset the game because I was getting my ass kicked and couldn't figure out how to fight him.  I think I figured it out by luck over anything and then in the future, it was a much easier battle.

Giga Gaia also gave me a shitload of trouble my first time around with his Double Handblaster attacks.  I had to have gotten my ass kicked at least 3-4 times with my first time fighting him.  I think the original way I beat him was with a lot of using Ice Sword 2 because it was the most powerful thing I had at the time.  I think a while later, I figured out that Falcon Hit is a good way to take his arms out quick though being that most people don't have Luminaire yet at that point.

Polling / What did you think of Cross's first sidequest?
« on: March 10, 2006, 03:35:02 pm »
I agree with the people who didn't call it a side quest as it really isn't.

But, I guess it was an overall okay event to do, but I will definitely drink to the fact that Leena's a bitch and a half.  My first time through the game, I saw the way she was talking to Serge and I'm thinking "God...what a bitch....What does Serge see in her?"

Polling / 1/8/05 - Which games have you played and in what order?
« on: March 10, 2006, 03:29:21 pm »
Considering CC overrode just about everything in RD, I don't consider RD a real part of the Chrono series (especially if most of us never even knew about this game until AFTER CC was released).  Now I know there's a patch for RD now, but overall, I still have no raging desire to play the game.

Anyway, with that said......

I did play CT first (probably about a year or two after its release though...) and from the moment I turned that game on the first time I played it, it was extremely hard to get me to put the controller down.  Of course, I still had a million and one questions on what had happened regarding parts of the CT story.  Now when I played CC, I got a lot of them, but CC has just opened me up to even more questions.  Whether I (or any of us for that matter) will get to find answers on those questions, I don't know if I will or if I'll just have to decide/theorize on what happened....

Polling / 5/21/05 - How did you first learn about Chrono Cross?
« on: March 10, 2006, 03:20:25 pm »
Someone I know (or at least knew at one point) told me that it would be coming out.  Of course I got hyped regarding it and bought it not too long after it came out.

I like Serge, but as Leebot said, he doesn't talk so I'm not going to make him the winner.  Glenn rocks in just about every way though.  His strength is probably the closest to Serge overall, the honesty and loyalty aspects of him, but at the same time going by his gut feeling.  Of course, the two Einlanzers are a pretty good trait too.  To me, characters that use two swords just flat out rock.

That's not necessarily a bad thing.  ;) :D

Glenn.  Good personality, very high strength, two Einlanzers.

'Nuff said!  :D

Polling / 7/2/05 - Which Gurus' invention has had the most impact?
« on: March 10, 2006, 03:07:02 pm »
I wanted to say the Epoch at first, but of course, the pendant is the source of all the events that went on in CT.  Without the pendant, there would have been no Telepod/Time Travel accident in the first place, thus no CT adventure.

Polling / 1/22/05 - What's your favorite bonus feature in the series?
« on: March 10, 2006, 03:01:24 pm »
It's too bad I can't vote for both the CT and CC NG+ features....

But to me, the NG+ is great just for the fun of getting both development room endings and getting to see how messed up all of these game creators really are.  :D
