I refer to myself as both. Gender is pointless on the Internet, and only serves as a distraction from a person's personality and intellect, which is the heart of the Internet in the first place. He, She, refer to me as you wish. I don't give a damn.

Imma' just call you Aura, savvy? ^-^

General Discussion / Writing pet peeves

I've got a few:

- People who don't understand the premis of a "Theory". Those people who just -have- to prove it 100% incorrect no matter what. They can't possibly stand the idea that it may be possible, even by the slimmest margin.

- People on forums who believe that since they have about a bazillion more posts that they are the forum god or something (I ain't talking about CC of course).

- Spammers (duh)

- When someone comes into a topic thread with a new idea or theory and instantly it has to be 20 people who shut him/her down like change is the devil incarnate in 12 font.

- (this only kinda' works with forums, more of a personal tick) When people use the word "love" like it was disposable. Mass media especially like the television we see today. A pair of teens date for a week and just because their not at each others throats it’s -LOVE-. It's one of the last pure ideals we as human beings cling to in an ever degrading society of diminished morals and stop-at-nothing tactics to succeed.

[As per usual I appologise for posting on the origonal thread topic while you've all gone off on something new, I'm slow @.@]

Lavos, the Planet, and other Entities / Azala Break!
« on: March 28, 2006, 10:06:52 pm »
Quote from: Daniel Krispin
I think the general consensus is that Lavos was not summoned, merely predicted. And, truly, I think the Reptite technology was easily advanced enough to perform such a feat. What's their technology level, anyway? Enough to build a fortress, that's for certain. Crossing that with our own history yields... well, at least a mid-second millennium BC, I'd guess. About the same level of achievement as the old Babylonians. Now, the Babylonians were master star-watchers and astologers, and were able to predict cosmic events with great accuracy. There is a story that a Greek sage, Thales of Miletus, predicted an eclipse would occur during a battle between the Ionians and the Persians... but, in fact, it was the Persians who had the great astrologers. Likely it was one of their number who performed the feat, and not Thales. The point is, the ancient star-watchers were very, very good at keeping records, and predicting the heavens (there are cuneiform inscriptions with what must be the results of thirty years of star-watching!) They were so influencial, we still use their system for some geometry (the 360 degrees to a circles is the old Babylonian system.) Anyway, the Babylonians were capable of incredibly accurate predictions. I'd wager the Reptites were similar.

There is another simpler explanation, however. New stars, supernovae, and comets were harbiners of sorts in ancient cultures... often ill-omens. A red star would be no different. It might just be the most basic of predictions, based more on religion than on science. A new star appears, that is not good - the heavens have changed! The star is red - the colour of blood, of war, and death. Again, not good. What do you think someone who knows the sky in the ancient world would interpret of such a portent? I think it's just that simple. No scientific prediction. No magical summoning. Just a bad-omen that turned out to be true.

Just felt like adding my own little note in here. The reptiles were not the only ones to anticipate the coming of Lavos.

Only a few button taps away from those quotes Ayla herself says "Lavos..."
"Ayla's word. La means big, Vos means fire"

Something along those lines. The prehistoric humans may not have been as advanced as the fortress building switch-setting cage-making scaleybutts, but they did in fact see the "Red Star" coming as well. Long enough in fact to revolve a primitive mythological reasoning around it. Their ideas seemed quite similar to its purpose. The humans, being the more primitive of the species at that point, saw the coming of the red star as a dawning of fire and death. The reptiles I believed, being more advanced, thought the red star in a broader sense. Signifying a pre-set destructive purpose to its existence. Two species, two similar explanations of the unknown, one outcome.

I seriously dislike any theory that says that Lavos will move on to another planet, since the Lavos Spawn are supposed to be his legacy. It'd be totally stupid to have children if he's gonna persevere.

Well, working with that idea, it could just be a little twist on the whole idea of the DNA perfection dream of Lavos.

Why do people have children? Baseline, it's written into us. Natural instinct to continue on our species. But that's just animal, we're (not too be too egotistical about our species n' all) above that. Humans reproduce for a deeper reason then to just preserve humanity, we do it for immortality. We truly and deeply wish to continue on our names and memories, our experiences and wisdom.

In a similar way Lavos is immortal by continuing to reproduce, passing on the DNA collected from a planet to his offspring so they can in turn find other planets, collect their DNA, and grow ever closer to biological perfection. That falls apart though with the lack of exchange in the species. Lavos don't mate, they just sap energy then reproduce... outa' somewhere (Don't get into -that-). So I think only one Lavos makes it into space (the others die off, possibly some battle of dominance, I'm not sure), a single creature overflowing with the DNA information and advantages of all his kind before him and infects a new world.

This does seem to fit pretty well with most of the Lavos theories thus far, but it's more in support of the idea that Lavos, as a species, has this dream of perfection (Like teh BORG :3 I'll shut up) by collecting the DNA of species throughout the endless expanse that is the universe. It's just that dream is passed down through the generations of lil' Lavoses... maybe?

Note: Yeah you people have jumped into an ethical question of 1 life versus a billion. Sorry. My two cents? It's wrong just to start. Why not two? Whats two lives next to a billion? How about four? Still small. Ten? Twenty? A hundred? A thousand? A million? Still small next to a billion lives. It's far too easy to play god.

You might be able to say silent protagonist... but there other RPG's that have that.

Whomever says that shall face my wrath. Wrath I say! There have been many silent heroes in the history of gaming. Hell, some where the main char. NEVER utters a single noise. I'd list 'em off fully, but I'm a lazy twat.

That's actually really weird now that I think about it!
I bought the Greatest Hits copy where all the captions were in Japanese, but my friend got a Greatest Hits where everything was translated.
Now I am incredibly confused...

Yeah, my copy is all english too. Though theres a loading error on it, unscratched or buffed. Are you talking about the Final Fantasy Chronicals pack?

Characters, Plot, and Themes / Lucca's mother (Minor spoiler alert)

If you save her and go back to Lucca's place, you'll see her sitting where she usually sits. I remember being so disheartened when I saw that, like my actions had no meaning. Then she gets up.  :D

Same, same. It was so uplifting when she stood and began to walk around. I was just smiling like an idiot when you talk to her and say "Ah, it's such a lovely day, I think I'll go for a walk!" Or something of the like. It's interesting how the timeline dosn't change that drastically from this. Lucca still devotes her life to technology, but for different reasons. Curious  :?

Characters, Plot, and Themes / chrono = schala??
« on: February 21, 2006, 11:53:55 pm »
Quote from: Augenstein
I think he was actually blind, but could sense the pendant Marle had with her. Since in his original time the pendant belonged to Schala, he believed that Schala had managed to find him.

Well... that makes SOMEWHAT sense, if he is blind (Which is highly possible, seeing as he's an old fellow) at that point. I'm not saying the theory is correct, far from it. I just go with the theory that Belthasar was mad as a hatter by then. Just working with that for a minute. Belthasar was a Guru of Zeal, and therefore very sensitive to magical forces. Especially those of the mammon machine and Schala (since he was around both so much). It's plausible to think that he sensed the energy resonating from the pendant (which isn't limited to Marle, seeing as you can open the special doors and chests even without her in the party. I’m guessing you keep it in your 'inventory' at all times no matter who's in the party) and for a moment in his senile ol' nutty head thought it was Schala. Even without the pendant theory Belthasar could have picked up on the general magical abilities of the party, which made him draw his conclusion... but yeah, I'm still going with he was just about at sane as Queen Zeal.
