Title: Magus Magus Magus Magus Magus
Post by: maggiekarp on February 23, 2012, 03:04:39 pm
That's right, I'm making a list of who to send to my own Zeality style death camps fun farms.

I pick Magil. The change from a child that blames himself, to someone who tries to be completely self-reliant, to someone that others can actually rely on is, in my mind, much more interesting and challenging than someone who reverts back to a self-blaming child from despair. "Darker" isn't better.

Is this a poll for our favorite in the list, or whom we dislike the most?

I haven't played RD (boo to me), but from what I've read and heard from people who've played it, I have my vote for Magil.

Yes, Boo "The Gentleman Caller" to you! (Except he's already married)

I pick grown up Janus. :D

I voted for Robo... because you gave me the option of voting for Robo.

That was your mistake.

What actually is a Zeality style death camp fun farm?

I vote Magil because I'm not a huge Guile fan and because I have no idea who "Alternate History Janus" is...

Also, Tush, what's with the random Bartimaeus Trilogy fanart?

Sheeeeeeeeit, that's Bartimaeus fanart? I should have noticed. I love that series.

Yeah, that was a real "picture is unrelated" moment...

Nope! Everyone just knows that "John Mandrake" is actually a non-Magus Janus / Nathaniel.  8)

Although: kudos, Katie, for recognizing it!

P.S.: I JUST BECAME A HERO OF TIME! How did I NOT notice it before?

Nope! You and Katie are literally the only two people I know of who recognize that. In my experience, NOBODY knows who "John Mandrake" is, period.
Explain your obscure references ahead of time, MANG! Lest you be called a hipster!

Seriously though, not everybody reads/watches the same stuff, I would say it's safe to assume 99% of Compendiumites aren't intimately familiar with anything but Chrono stuff, Dr Who (that's still a stretch), and Sherlock (a waaaay bigger stretch, there's not even time travel). That's not to say that anyone's stupid, but you can't assume we just know.

I didn't recognize the source of the image. Yet, I understood in the context of his post, that tushantin was using it as a representation of his idea of an alternate-timeline grown-up Janus. So, I really do not find it necessary for him to have explained the reference.

Hipster! :-)

I actually voted for alt Janus, because I like the idea of him having another chance.

Edit: And yes, I got that it was tush's idea of the character, but it is a pretty big picture with no explanation. Whatevs. Not a big deal  :D

Star Trek is probably on that list too, although that's the only thing on the list I would never catch any references from.

Well, now you do.

But you forgot Kodokami; while he didn't notice the picture instantly, he still loves the series.  :P

But I am a hipster! Didn't you know? When Tushantin wears/reads/watches/eats something, it becomes a fad!

The title "hipster" isn't necessarily something to be proud of, btw...  Most people find them incredibly annoying.  9 times out of 10 when someone calls another person a hipster, it's an insult.

Edit:  I'm not saying Bekkler's insulting you, just that in general the term "hipster" is an insult.

XD I know. Which is why I took it light-heartedly. The term doesn't really bother me.

Although, even if I were serious, by "hipster" I don't mean that I alienate myself or do annoying stuff that other hipsters do. Hell, no! What I meant was that I'm hip, as in I try to keep myself updated, discover the unknown and be a pioneer of stuff of all things. And if I approve of something, others try em too. ^^

I just think hipster is a funny insult because it covers such a broad range of traits that everybody can be called one, given the context.

It's not like a racial slur, insulting intelligence, or sexual orientation comment. So, all in good fun.

Are you going to call the pre-floating-Zeal non-magic-users Hipsters instead of Earthbound?

It would make a lot of sense.

Haha! Nice! Maybe the cavemen/women.

"Before it was cool." (the planet)

But think about this:

Magus: Goth/Emo
Magil: David Bowie Fan
Guile: Adult who is legitimately into J Pop
Alt-Janus: Hipster

Speaking of David Bowie, I find him to be the king of hipsters. It's been, for quite a long time, that if David Bowie does it, it's officially become cool.

I didn't recognize the image only because I hadn't read the text behind it. John Mandrake is a dead giveaway for anyone familiar with the series. As a series with no official art other than the cover art, I would be hard pressed to find a connection. But yeah, I still love it. The Amulet of Samarkand was one of the first books I really fell in love with.

Back on topic: Robo is in second place!

Yes. Yes. Exactly.

Wait a minute. ALFador? There needs to be a horse now named Gluefactoryador. By that logic.
