Big thanks to Compendium members tuxedojacob and Tishiablo for bringing this to our attention! This just in from TGS, via IGN (http://wireless.ign.com/articles/119/1194755p1.html):
At TGS today Square Enix reaffirmed its presence on iOS and also announced significant support for Android by announcing a bevy of new titles and ports for both platforms.
...
On the games front, Square Enix revealed that Chrono Trigger will be hitting both iOS and Android, a move sure to send shivers of pleasure up the spine of any retro jRPG lover. Final Fantasy Legends, Itadaki Street and Dragon Quest Monsters will also be receiving updated mobile releases for both iOS and Android.
[hidden]I'm holding out hope for HD sprites for the iOS Retina display, but does anyone know if Android devices have an equivalent HD display? I'm assuming they do? Some new goodies aren't entirely out of the question -- the iPad version of Final Fantasy Tactics got newly drawn character portraits.[/hidden]

Looks like IGN, in turn, got the story from NeoGAF:

The Japanese-language source links are toward the bottom of the linked NeoGAF post. Anyone care to confirm?

Yeah! The Super AMOLED display (http://www.cnet.com/8301-17918_1-20056639-85.html), our current best industry-standard rival for Retina Display! :D But only for Samsung for the time being, though other brands may have their own variants.
Yeah, certainly looks like it. But I can't seem to track the "original" source. Hmm, we could also check out SE's own news blog...
-
Thanks for the AMOLED article, that's fascinating. Yeah, I'm kind of worried about the original sources. I'm trusting in the GAFFers for now. Hey, IGN did!
-
Consider how many people have one of those. Expanding to yet another crowd will garner interest in those who are a little ways beyond that era, and therefore increase demand in the continuation of the Chrono franchise.
For the moment, they're probably just seeing if they can rake in something decent from it, but it could be a good sign if they're still trying to advertise it to more and more people.

I hope that all the ports sell well, if they do hopefully we'll get a remake of CT or even better, a new game! I'm keeping my fingers crossed. CTDS came out of no where, and the new content was glorious, for a port anyway. I'm hoping in the next few years we might see a game.
-
Hmm, more ports.
Well, this better lead to something bigger. Their interest is clearly not dead judging this.
-
Well they should at least make an HD version.

Great news... I am jsut replaying it on my phone with PSX emulator and my old saves from back in the day... only 3 endings missing... G_G So I don't really want to play from scratch again... xD

PSX? Why would you prefer that over SNES when you're emulating on a phone? How are the load times? No offense, just curious.

Ah the only reason is because I ripped my old PSX memory cards using a ps2 homebrew. That way I can use my old saves. Loading times are nearly none... and the game runs fullspeed on my Galaxy S2...
I'd love to play the snes version on it but there is no way to get my saves form he psx ones. =/

How 'bout an iPhone port of LiveAlive? No?

How 'bout an iPhone port of LiveAlive? No?
Well, even if it does happen I doubt it would be localized if it never happened before.
Is there a translation for it?
-
Another port... :picardno
Alright, thanks but no thanks Square ; 4 versions is enough for me.

If it has the extra stuff the DS version had... I would get it since I am one of those people that never got a DS...

Oh, I don't think so. It's just an iPhone port. Who completes RPGs on iPhone anyway ?

Monster RPG 2

I would. I am playing Final Fantasy 3 ATM on iphone. And that's the 3d ver. It's a port of the DS version. Hence why I asked if it includes the extra stuff the DS has... >_>

Same here. Otherwise, I'm perfectly happy with the original SNES version on my android phone via emulator. Although I might still buy the android version, just so I can thank Square for such a perfect game. :-D

I hope it sells well, if it does maybe they will do another 16 bit revival game like Final Fantasy Legends that was recently completed for japanese mobile phones which should be coming to iOS in the next year or 2. If you haven't heard of Final Fantasy Legends, check it out here: http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2010/09/final-fantasy-legends/

TouchArcade just posted the first screenshots of the port (http://toucharcade.com/2011/11/21/chrono-trigger-is-headed-to-the-app-store-next-month/), or I think that's what these are. (Link to Square Enix's Facebook page for the game in that article too)
*Sigh*, is this gonna look fuzzy on the iPhone and iPod Touch Retina display. I guess re-drawn sprites or some other bombastic advancement were too much to hope for.
-
Love the new menus! :D

Just out of curiosity, what's the format of high-res image used in Retina Display? Are they vectors, or simply high-res pixel sprites? And if vectors, what's the data behind it?
-
Could be either depending on the game, I think.

Chrono Trigger just released on the Apple App Store today. Possibly with new/tweaked overworld sprites? They didn't look like this (http://i.imgur.com/dwEb7.png) in the DS version, did they?
-
damn! they actually changed something.

OH WHAT THE?!
-
Did they make Crono's hair even more spiky?
-
Apparently Sir Crono's hair is sharper than his sword. XD
Oi! I'm waiting to know if they've got high-res sprites!
-
Spikier hair? Is that even possible? Oh wait, it is.
-
No high-res sprites, sadly.
-
I don't know if this is fixed, but here's the link: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/chrono-trigger/id479431697?ls=1&mt=8
My friend and I couldn't find it in the app store via searching earlier, but that link takes you right to it.
