The Square Enix Members Twitter now has 20,000 followers, and Square Enix is going to be celebrating with its next big PSN Game Archives release, Chrono Cross.
Producer Shinji Hashimoto, who manages the Square Enix Members Twitter, announced the Chrono Cross release today, but did not share a download time frame.
Joining Chrono Cross, Square Enix has another surprise on the way to commemorate the 20,000 follower feat. This will be something other than a download game.

YES :kamina
Here's hoping for new easter eggs?
-
this something other.........what does it entail?
-
Well now, this is all very good.
:franky
Now I wonder what this other thing is...
-
I dont know what a PSN or JPSN is, but I will buy it, just to play Chrono Cross
Mostly because I want a chrono break, there might be new easter eggs, and my current version of chrono cross is broken :/

Also at that link .
If it was released in Europe as well , would be the first ever time Chrono Cross would ever have been released there ......which is a lil shame actually.
-
Something other, you say?
Not DLC, you say?
Setting myself up for disappointment, here, but fingers crossed for Break.
We should all mail Kit Kat bars with "Give me a break" to SE Japan.

Unlikely. PSN games are emulations, not ports. I haven't heard of any being modified for PSN release, certainly not with new game content.
-
It may not be a remake but at least itīs something n__nU

Sounds interesting *__* A remake of CC for PSN?
-
I doubt the "surprise" will be anything Chrono-related, although I guess you never know.
-
I was going to add this link here too. http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/106154-Chrono-Cross-Crossing-to-PSN-in-Japan

Here's a less optimistic take on the event. http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/14/chrono-cross-coming-to-japanese-psn-we-give-up-hope-forever/

From the title of that article I thought they were just gonna talk about CC's plot :ass
Seriously though why aren't those in America yet?
-
Somebody hates money.
-
arghh... they are so lazy with their announcements...
...oh uh I mean... I am glad some of you are happy! I too am excited.
More good news to come.
-
I'll stick to playing CC on ePSXe.
-
I wonder if there are any numbers we could find on PSX games that have been ported to PSN and how the lists contrast from the JPN and NA markets...If we're missing highly rated games like CC, what else is getting cock-blocked?
What if they could put together some kind of non-FF Square PSX HD collection for PS3 and include CC (Dream list: Chrono Cross, Parasite Eve, Vagrant Story, Xenogears)? That would be awesome even though the fact that it's on the JPSN probably means it won't happen...V_V

I like your Dream List.
-
Wasn't it announced for the US one as well?
-
Unless you're privy to a brand-spanking update that the rest of us are not, then no.
-
Regardless... this will still breathe life into the Chrono series.
This and other announcements to come are simply minor ingredients in the cake that contains "the big one".
-

And we have a winner.

So much for the whole "supporting the franchise" thing.
-
That's not entirely fair. If Cross were released worldwide on PSN, it'd be a different story. I know everybody could do what I did and find a new copy on disc on amazon and just use that with the PS3, but it's really inconvenient for some people.
Unfortunately, emulation is the next best thing, until SE decides they actually need money again.

Since when can you not play your original psx copy on epsxe? I'm pretty sure everyone should have it by now and if not it's like 12 bucks on amazon. I play all my classic psx and ps2 games on emulators now you can make them look so much better than they natively do. I am not going to support the franchise by buying games I already own either. Until they release new content they don't have my money. This goes for CT ports, and CC ports.
-
My point is that when CC actually does come out on US PSN, I will be buying it for two reasons: one, so that I can legally play the game on a handheld, and two to send SE a message that people want Chrono. If you're just going to emulate it in lieu of this, you're pretty much neglecting the second reason which I'd think that as a fan you'd be concerned about. It'll be ten friggin' bucks, that's not exactly a gouge.
-
the Chrono series died with Squaresoft IMHO... anything SE makes would just be........well... take a look at what they made out of FF -- more gimmicks and pretty graphics to compensate for lack of a good story
-
My point, gato, is just that emulation wouldn't effect Chrono Cross PSN sales any more than it effected Chrono Trigger DS sales. But unless/until it's made public for everyone to buy/re-buy, there are few alternatives.
-
I guess we can hope for the best but prepare for... well... furthermore being ignored. That's the worst of it.
-
I think it's best it be ignored. If they can f-ck up FF, a well-known franchise, so badly, I dare not imagine what would happen with Chrono.

I already own the game. I'm a fan, but I'm tired of being dicked around by SE. They can give me something new that I don't need or they don't get my money. I'm not going to throw my money at them for a product that I already own.
-
Obviously you aren't obligated to, I'm just saying one would assume that as a Chrono fan, you'd want to.

Agreed.....Its really a shame that the Chrono series does not get the respect it deserves now in days. But its cool that Chrono cross is coming to the psn, maybe it will introduce some new people to the series. :D
-
Hopefully, It'll remind people that Cross isn't a bad game at all, because people tend to associate disappointing sequel (to them, at least) with disappointing game. A shame, because Cross is probably the best RPG on the PS1 (IMO).

It is a great game!
-
It's not even a disappointing sequel, if you go into it with the right expectations. That is, "a game that builds upon the themes and ideas laid forth by its predecessors while retaining a similar atmosphere and feel". Which is what I want out of a sequel, especially in a video game.
If you want a sequel in the sense of "another fantasy game with time travel", go check out Radiant Historia. That looks great, and as close to Chrono Trigger 2 as there ever will be.
-
That's what I always felt, but some don't agree.
And I'm SUPER pumped for Radiant Historia.

There's also Black Sigil, which Faustwolf pointed me toward when asked about Chrono-style sprites. The game looks really cool. Kind of like what Chrono Crisis could have been if they ever actually made a game. Wikipedia isn't very kind to it, though.

"Popzara Press noted the game's similarities to Square-Enix's popular Chrono Trigger..."
SOLD

Not sure if anyone has seen this yet...

http://www.esrb.org/ratings/search.jsp?title=final+fantasy+origins
An ESRB rating has been given for both Chrono Cross and Final Fantasy Origins (FF1&2). Surely this means they are being ported to the PSN.
Sigh. I guess it's too much to hope for a DS port? I think the touch screen would do wonders for CC's Element Grid.
-
Yey for port to the PSN - if I had one (grumble)
I agree for the cross DS port that'd be sweet! They should port it to the 3DS just sayin'!
