Title: Would you welcome an expanded community?
Post by: chi_z on March 01, 2010, 07:22:41 pm
If there were another game released, or we somehow promoted the series like crazy, and a bunch of chrono virgins got their cherries popped...would you embrace this? do you WANT Chrono back in the 'mainstream' of things, a la Final Fantasy? 10 years since the last full blown game, the community is now reaching a pretty small niche, aided only by the ds remake that gave a few newbies a glimpse. I've showed this game to many of my friends, and pretty much all of them think it's the shit, a lot of them hadn't even heard of it til the DS. One of my friends played it for 14 hours straight while I watched, I was his walking encyclopedia/FAQ as he progressed thru the KWhazit re-translation.

With the aspect of a new game, I have to ask with the exception of Katou and Mitsuda, are there even any of the original team left to make another? If no new game, exactly how could we as a community go about promoting our interest to others in a non-jerkass way? If there is neither a new game, nor we promote the series ourselves, then the community will die. These things don't promote themselves. I think we at the compendium are doing a decent job as is, what with all the current fan projects as of late, but what else is there? Is word of mouth amongst friends and internet dwellers enough?

I think if we really promoted the rpg maker projects at the rpg maker websites(there's a few active rpg maker sites still around), people who have already 'been there, done that' with the series will see that it's still an alive and kicking community. I'm kinda lost on how to bring in newcomers other than telling your friends about the games, but that's a really slow process, I don't think we'd be getting more people than what we lose, so the net community total will still dwindle.

Who here wouldn't welcome an expanded community? What nonsense! This place is at its best when passions and ideas flow in abundance. Except maybe right-wing passion, but we'll overlook that for now.

I put forth the idea that the Compendium should also follow the other games of the creators of the Chrono series...Kato, Mitsuda & Toriyama are all still out there being a part of the RPG process, making games...

I suppose supporting RPG Maker projects is an idea (though I thought we already sort of were since there's one plastered right there on the front page, but w/e)...I've never really been behind them, myself though. They seem too limiting, but I'm sure they've gotten better over the years...

Otherwise, there's all kinds of fan projects that could be done...art, fanfics, hacks of various kinds (though people can't really discuss them here)...I'm still waiting for someone to make the gold pants, red cape, purple hair Magus sprite hack...

As long as people follow the rules and don't troll or harass anyone, new additions are always welcome. I introduce Chrono to as many people as I can! We're all pretty dedicated to the fanbase. Discouraging new fans would be just like strangling the fanbase, and leave no hope for any future Chrono game. If there's no one left to buy a new game, why bother making it?
So yeah, initiate as many new fans as you can!

We might attract some nuts(like that guy who bragged about trolling the Chrono Wikia), and we might attract some people who aren't nutty enough. But more people is more company. More potential fan artists, more remixers, fanfic writers, animators, game makers, etc. etc.

More potential over all. The Chrono community is still fighting hard and making some really neat stuff, and more members will only increase that ethic.

Now, as is customary, here's a badass picture of Kamina from Gurren Lagann to drill the point home:
