Title: Chrono Echoes - Official Sequel to Chrono Alter!
Post by: Lance VII on March 01, 2010, 09:15:30 am
Have a look at this:

http://rpgmaker.net/games/1899/

Platform: RPG Maker 2003
Genre: Traditional RPG
Release Date: TBD
Production Status: 3%

Chrono Echoes is a fan-sequel to Chrono Trigger, and the official sequel to Chrono Alter. The game will take place four years after the end of Alter.

As you may have guessed from the title, this game has a lot to do with Chrono Trigger: Crimson Echoes. In fact, this is an adaptation of CT:CE to be a CAlter sequel. I have obtained permission from Zeality to go ahead with the project.

Plot Intro
"Four years after the defeat of the Dream Devourer, Crono, Marle, and Lucca find that their lives have drastically changed. Lucca has adopted a baby girl she found in the woods, and is embracing Motherhood while she works on re-creating a 'Time Egg', the item that brought Crono back to life. Crono and Marle are preparing themselves for the throne.

During this time, the nations of Guardia and Porre begin to have multiple disagreements. King Guardia grows uneasy, as Porre has gathered a powerful army. Nobody knows how such as small nation has risen to power, and Crono begins to suspect an old enemy is at work in his time..."

Features:
-The final adventure of the CT Team.
-Schala as a fully playable character.
-Working Caterpillar system.
-15-20 hours of gameplay.
-Branching story.
-Return of Time Travel.
-Mp3 only soundtrack.
-Mapping nearly identical to Chrono Trigger.
-Element System for Magic.

It's shaping up to be rather kick ass man, I think you were just 'warming up' so to speak with Alter, and now you are pretty darned experienced with the system you are using(rm2k3). I can't wait to see the final result, here's to your success! GOD WILLS IT! GOD WILLS IT! GOD WILLS IT!

This is true. I'm much more experienced now. I know a lot more about coding and whatnot.

I'd keep this project on the DL if I were you gentlemen. A remake of a game ordered C&D'd with the approval of the person recieving the C&D is not legal water you want to tread.
Title: Re: Chrono Echoes - Official Sequel to Chrono Alter!
Post by: Lance VII on March 01, 2010, 09:34:24 pm
Meh. Not a remake, really.
Title: Re: Chrono Echoes - Official Sequel to Chrono Alter!
Post by: Lance VII on March 02, 2010, 01:38:08 pm
To clarify, we are not remaking Crimson Echoes in Rm2k3. We are going to take the concept of Crimson Echoes, and mold it into something new.

It's an adaptation of the concept, not the game.
Title: Re: Chrono Echoes - Official Sequel to Chrono Alter!
Post by: BearFrog on March 02, 2010, 02:58:11 pm
An adaption of the concept is still risky legal territory. I'm just cautioning you.

CE was C&D'd because it was made in Temporal Flux, which uses a copyrighted rom as the root file. Alter was made on its own, not from TF.

And if you're about to say "What about CTR?", CTR was made using unlicensed GameCube development software.

If SE would bother to go after this, they'd might as well purge Newgrounds of everything SE franchise related, including CT Unglued, Chrono Who, Magus Bros Shorts, CT Apocalypse... By that time however, surely someone would want their executives "taken care of."

yeah they didn't seem to threatened by Alter, I'm guessing they are ok with the rpg maker system.

Either that or they don't know about it.

When the C&D struck, the commanded all ROM hacks be taken down. Chrono Chronicles was on the Compendium at this point in time, and the did not have it removed. Curious, no?
Title: Re: Chrono Echoes - Official Sequel to Chrono Alter!
Post by: Schala Zeal on March 02, 2010, 08:51:19 pm
ROM hacks, not projects altogether.

If there was a site that hosted a hacked, modded Windows 7 installation, and a Unix variant (like Ubuntu or Debian), chances are M$ would only have the hack taken down.... most likely from a lawsuit instead of C&D.... they love money more than anything. That could be an example I guess.

Looking forward to development in the writing department.

And no, you're not going to get C&D'd on your project.  You're using a unique, third-party engine to render your project and therefore do not fall under their "rom-hacking is illegal" territory.

That's the most straightforward/easy to read stats page I've ever seen in a game dude, good job. But is it only red for crono? that's like the perfect color.

That's the RPG Maker default. lol

Anyway, that's the text box for the game. It doesn't change at any time besides the times there isn't a text box.

Yep they are. She's great, huh? *smiles* I have the spritesheet if you're on YIM later. I decided to use those as my official personal NPC sprites. I always wanted to be pimped out in-game.

I'm looking forward to working on the commentary feature we're putting in. Of course, you need work before you can comment on it.

On another note... I simply find it amusing when people refer to myself in second-person. It's funny.

So, Chrono Echoes may be coming out in two separate editions. The main edition will be 200+ Mbs, and will have a very high quality soundtrack. The other edition will be much smaller, but use music that isn't quite as high quality. Still, this isn't set in stone yet.

Kentona is one of my favorite RPGMaker developers. He's the author of Hero's Realm, Generica, and a few other fun Rm2k3 games. He hosted an event called 'Release Something! X'. I sent over the Chrono Echoes random battling video. He seemed skeptical we could pull it off. That means we're just gonna have to show him that we can pull it off. :D

The mention is around 5:28.

it seems like it has better color than the snes version. shit you could completely remake CT on rpgmaker then, but it's almost pointless. Just better properties with sound etc, you could use wav's ripped from the CT OST instead of relying on an emulator to play a half-decent version of the ROM music, 100 percent accuracy.

Meh, I've commented on overture about it.

But I still think the dirt path is implying that it isn't snowing to hard.

Yeah, I agree. Then again, in this part of the timeline, the ice age is ending.

Hi Lance. I haven't played your game yet, but I've inspected it using rm2k3 and my own experience. I have quite a few years using the program, although mostly uncompleted games and random stuff I've been doing over time.

What I need to say is (and I actually registered only for this, go figure): please use battle animations for the characters in battle! Everything could look much better if you were to use battle animations for stances, attacking, etc. It's painful to see how you're able to perfectly recreate the Chrono Trigger maps and yet the battles don't look as good as they could.

The CT sprites are so small and have so little animations that it is really easy. I've tried using large sprites ripped from fighting games on the rm2k3 engine, and they can look badass!

Also, I'd try not to use sound effects from the RTP. Well, it must be me only because I'm used to hearing them on too many games, but they don't really fit with the atmosphere at all.

Have you thought about adding double/triple techs? I think it should be possible in the default system somehow, although a hassle to input on every single battle.

As you can see, I am a battle system type of guy, lol. I feel compelled to give some input because this looks like the real thing, and not one of so many projects that are scrapped around 10% or so. I know how tough it is to make games half seriously, so hang in there.

The thing about battle animations is that the CT sprites really only have two or three frames, so battlechars are better for this situation. I'm not doing a lot of the Level Design, so you can thank other people for most of the maps.

After hours and HOURS of trying, I have learned duel/triple techs ARE NOT possible.

RTP sounds aren't really out of place. I use a mixture of RTP and CT sounds.

although the writing is a bit cheezy(what rpg isn't), alter is pretty damned good, not even attaching the whole 'for a fan game' phrase, it's just a good game period. wonder if the japanese ever tried making their own chrono redubs? perhaps it's just us crazy bastards at the compendium.......

This chapter is pretty much a recreation of the first chapter for CT:CE.  This is the only exact copy, I believe.

One of my favorite scenes from Crimson Echoes. It has remained mostly the same, except for a new scene added.
