Okay, I have all of the sidequests (except the Lost Sanctum, can't find the building material and I can only handle LS in small doses anyway) completed... Crono, Magus, and Ayla are at lvl ** but for some reason, I still can't get this password right. I walked into the backroom and read the document on the table. I walked back into the main room of the house where Lara is being sucked into the machine. I try pressing "L-A-R-A" after it prompts Lucca to do so, but it isn't working! I have played through this game 7 times now, and Lara has been a paraplegic 7 times also. What could I be doing wrong?

Hmmmm...trying accessing the machine at a different point. Once you hear the *click* sound, it starts, then every letter you hit correctly after that, it gives the *correct beep* sound effect.
That's all I can suggest, though.

It asks if you want to put in the password, you then press A. Then you enter L-A-R-A. You have to press A first, it is kind of confusing.

If you change your controls (what button does what), I think it screws with the passwords. Try setting it back to default configuration for that sidequest.

It really shouldn't be any more difficult than the crane or XABY passwords, but for some reason (lack of auditory cues? or is there? its been a while...is there one of those DING-DONG noises?) it is for some people...
I still think someone should make a hack where Robo DOES give up his legs and replaces them with awesome tank-like treads. It would be SWEET~!!

I'm 92.79831% sure there are audio cues, but they are much lower than the rest of the game. Crank up the volume and see if that helps.

there's a little chime between when you hit the A at the end of the dialogue and type in LARA...

I never really had trouble with that sidequest.
It should prompt you to input the password before keying in L-A-R-A.
