Title: Crimson Echoes DVD Idea
Post by: NickyT on June 11, 2009, 05:22:10 pm
Hi everyone, I have been literally addicted to the Crimson Echoes Youtube videos, I have been glued to my chair waiting for the updates, and I watch them during work inbetween helpdesk calls, lol!

I had an idea recently to make DVD's out of the Youtube videos, and add subtitles of the annotations and other stuff. Before I did it however, I was wanting to know if this would be a good idea considering the action Squeenix has taken lately? I didn't know if that would be good or not to distribute over the Internet. I won't do it if it will harm the Compendium in any way.

I think making any profit off CE is quite a dangerous idea. I don't know how the C&D affects distribution, but I have a feeling that we can't do this...as awesome as it is...

Hey thanks for the response. I wouldn't be making profit off of it at all, I was actually going to try to think of a way to offer an .iso image available for download from the Internet.

I have so many ideas going through my head for like menus, music, etc.

It's up to Agent 12 and ZeaLitY to make a call one way or another, but I'd be happy to provide the videos. I'm focusing on getting them processed and upped to Youtube right now, and I might have to revisit them to make them playable on Windows Media Player after that. Looks like the entire collection would weigh in at about 8 Gigs as an estimate. Is that good or bad?

Oh, I think I misunderstood what you were doing here. This is basically just downloading the videos, right? If SE doesn't have a problem with the videos on Youtube, then why would they have a problem with this?

Considering the length of the playthrough, I would say 8GB is pretty good. And I am stoked! I could possibly rip the vids from YouTube as well, unless the source vids are kickass quality. Thanks for the responses though!

Because you never know when some jackass will start burning copies and sell them on eBay for profit.

Actually, looks like Youtube is starting to make videos available in MP4 format. So you could have CE on the go, in your iPod or PSP! I think?

FW, is the download as MP4 option available only to us? I couldn't tell if that was available only to the uploader or not.

Aye, good point. Someone could, however, still do this with the Youtube videos. It's a lengthier process; you have to rip the videos off Youtube, put 'em on some portable media, and sell that media.

Then again, you can do that with any Youtube Video.

Dammit, why couldn't Square Enix be a subsidary of Nintendo!?

Look at the fucking Mother 3 Strategy guide, gains a profit and Nintendo doesn't give a damn.

Agent 12, I believe it's available only to the uploader using that specific account.

Yeah but NickyT suggested making a DVD with menus, music, etc. Basically a polished product, rather than a simple MPEG or MP4 file.

Oh wow, I totally didn't know that YouTube was making MP4 movies available, I'll have to get CE rounded up for my Zune/PSP! :-)

@FaustWolf

Do you mean something like this (http://keepvid.com/?&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D_uuKttrwwM8%26p%3DE952926C2A6E7039%26index%3D41%26playnext%3D1%26playnext_from%3DPL%26fmt%3D18) link?

No, actually, Youtube is specifically providing MP4 downloads to its accounts. It's really awesome...though I haven't tried it out myself yet, so there might be some catch I'm not getting.

Yeah I was actually just uploading a Youtube video of a test video game I made, and I saw that some of my videos now have a Download MP4 button on them. Badass!

I'd love to see all the raw footage available as a torrent to download.  I'm sure that Underground-Gamer would host it.  I can provide an invite, or upload them if provided with the files.  Just saying.  Get some of the Compendium's fanart, and make some custom menus and provide either ISO for DVDs or the VIDEO TS folders.

I think it would be a great idea and we'd be able to see all the visual effects better than on youtube. another thing that could be done with the mp4 of the footage is to release it as a single .rar file on the compendium and post links on other sites. that way other fans of the game can come here and maybe join.

I greatly appreciate the youtube videos in the torrent, but is it possible to get either the raw ZSNES movie files, or the raw avi's that where uploaded to youtube.  I'm having trouble getting the files to work in either Encore or Premiere.  I think it might be to do with the codecs and I'd hate to further transcode them.

Killagouge, the ones in the torrent were the raw AVIs directly uploaded to Youtube. I'm curious as to whether the supplemental "Emerald Dream" videos (20 ~ 33) work in those programs whereas the others do not.

As for the non-Emerald Dream videos I wasn't able to get the audio for those videos working in Windows Media Player due to the format ZSNES dumped the audio in, but the video still played IIRC. Are Encore and Premier not playing the video at all?

When I goto import them, as soon as they go to generate the thumbnail images, both programs crash.  I will try the Emerald Dream videos.

Knowing that they are the original rips, I will transcode them, and see if that fixes the issue.  the Emerald Dream videos work just fine.  Is there something special about them>

Interesting. The Emerald Dream videos shouldn't contain any more video processing than the others, but they do have much more audio processing since I customized the music on those ones. Must be the audio tracks that were causing the issue.

I think it might be the audio as well, if I strip the audio the video works just fine.  gonna try and doctor the audio some.
