Title: Shee's CC diary
Post by: Shee on January 19, 2009, 06:17:20 pm
So I'm playing CC for the first time.  I decided I'm going keep a lil diary of what's going on here and my reactions for y'all.  And umm...so we go!

For starters, this game is fucking depressing from events to music.  I like it!
I do love most of the music and the chrarcters seems to be cool, with the exception of Poshul who I should of put into a meat grinder.  I've checked out a FAQ a couple times when I was stuck.  Good to know I'm muffin' the crap out of all sorts of sheeit.  I took Guile to Viper manor, took kid right away (so no Leena I guess?  dumb broad don't even know me.....) and also chose to help save Kid.  When in the Hydra Marshes, I did all the dwarf/Hydra stuff first then followed the fairy, who WASN'T EVEN THERE ANYMORE when I went through all that sheeit to get the flute and whatnot.  LAMES BOND!  Alas, movin' on though.

Guile, is this or is this not Magus?  I read that the story of it all was taken out but, is he still Magus?  He is in my mind.

Serge seems to be pretty cool, but I liked the super heroic silent protaganist thing better the first time when he was called Crono..........

How to make this thread awesome: Name the characters funny names, taking suggestions from other posters, and only call them by the custom name in the thread.

I'll start; Next character, if male is Traep, if female is Cumslut.

Gogogogogogogogogogogo.

I dunno if I'm ready for the next female to join "cumslut" right off the bat...

But yea consider to happen!

Those are just examples brah.

Extremely offensive examples.

Looking forward to this thread's growth.

Guile, is this or is this not Magus?  I read that the story of it all was taken out but, is he still Magus?  He is in my mind.

No, he isn't.

My suggestion is turn down as many people as possible from joining you. You can save a Pokemon-like gotta-recruit-'em-all mentality for a New Game+...You won't be missing out on anything.

Guile might be Magus. Chrono Trigger Ultimania might shed more light on the subject, but CT DS definitely makes it...half-possible.

I've been thinking that Eclipse Magus getting amnesia might be Kato trying to turn Guile back into Magus, but since he has amnesia, he just learns new tricks and goes from warlock to a real magician (as in the tricks are real, not illusions), hangs out in Termina, meets Serge one day, and goes on the adventure that is Chrono Cross.

Also, more than likely, the next Chrono game will make another key item that shares its name with the title. Any guesses?

THE NEXT GAME WILL BE CHRONO COMPENDIUM.

Anyways, I was going to do something like this, only very in-depth, but I decided against it. I suppose I'll try again later...

A game with us as the main characters?

Sounds crazy in my opinion. But who says it can't work!?

Nevermind...

I don't remember a "Radical Dreamers" key item...

And seriously, am I the only one who gets miffed when people say, "I chose to save Kid"...? It's not as bad as saying "I chose not to save Kid", but the implication that that's the other option is still there...w/e...

Ummm...I hope I didn't miff you good sir.  Regardless, this is where things stand.

People In The Party   (In a rough order of usage)
Serge
Kid
Guile Not To Be Confused With Magus nor Guile From Street Fighter
Mojo
Poshul The Purple Buster
Pokemon Pip
Greco Who Has Only Fought One Battle

I let Korcha go, but he rolled with me for a little bit.  He was ok, nothing great I guess.  Found him annoying, really.  But it was hilarious when his whole body went red as he told Kid he loved her.  I never really thought about it, bugt I guess that is what happens.  We just have clothing on.

Ran around a bit after Kid rejoined...Doc reminds me of a surfer friend from Florida.  My buddy's a bright guy, but the most stereotypical surfer I've seen.  Still, some pretty cool shit goin' on there in those scenes.  The connection is powerful between Serge and Kid, but I love Harle's forboding message as she leaves the hermit's isle.  Harbinger of doom or jealous ranting?  I shall see I guess.

I did the whole ghost ship thing...wasn't paying too much attention when I started it and was with Serge, Kid, and Guile Not To Be Confused With Magus nor Guile From Street Fighter.  I still managed to do alright because Guile Not To Be Confused With Magus nor Guile From Street Fighter had some other techs that weren't black, but still a pain.

Did the whole water isle thing with the dwarves and fairies.  Those fairies are some ungrateful fuckers!!!  Who cares if the dwarves were sent there by the evil humans!  Maybe if they weren't such busters int he hydra Marsh none of this would have happened.  Did some of the Fire cave, currently inside somewhere.  Just worked over Salt N' Pepa for what feels like the umpteenth time, but probably third.

Chrono Cross was a fun game for me when I played it when it first came out. I had a lot of fun even though I was lost a lot during the gameplay of it. With 44 chars, only 30 of so that you're able to obtain the first time through the game, it can get pretty confusing. As a good soul, you want to save Kid when the option arrives, but if you choose not to, you get Glenn, who is a very useful person to have. He has a double tech with Serge that is exactly the same (albeit in 3D) as Chrono and Frog's X-Strike in Chrono Trigger. He is, in all appearances, to be the human form of Frog and eventually is able to dual wield when you gain the Masamune sword from both Dimensions. Norris will save Kid and you will still retain her as one of your characters, but by doing this, you miss out on the chance to snag other chars. Not a big deal with the New Game +. Sorry for the spoiler, but when I found out, it made me start a completely new game, lol. My party usually consisted of Serge, Kid, and Glenn, with the occasion switch out to Kersh, Lord Viper, or the Blacksmith guy (Kappa?).

Guile was supposed to have been Magil; the future form of Magus/Janus who is finally free from the darkness of his own twisted past, but they cut that out for some reason. Guile is just Guile now, nothing special or extraordinary.

going through without a guide, you're going to miss a lot of stuff, so be forewarned, if you haven't been already.

My miff is muffed pretty easily these days it seems...I was actually just trying to turn my post around to something more on-topic...as you can see you didn't really even say that the other option was to "not save kid" anyways...

And you can just call Guile Alf if ya want...though I'm sure you were copy&pasting, not actually typing that all out each time...>_>

Like Phil asked, what DO you think of the battle system, Shee?

As a good soul, you want to save Kid when the option arrives, but if you choose not to, you get Glenn, who is a very useful person to have.

See? This person said that the other option is to choose not to save Kid, which is wrong. The option, like Macha reiterates right after Korcha does his little bitch thing, is "I don't know".

He is, in all appearances, to be the human form of Frog and eventually is able to dual wield when you gain the Masamune sword from both Dimensions.

CC Glenn does not look like CT Glenn...not even the stupid short-hair TOIE Glenn.

the Blacksmith guy (Kappa?).

Close: Zappa.

Guile was supposed to have been Magil; the future form of Magus/Janus who is finally free from the darkness of his own twisted past, but they cut that out for some reason.

I don't think we really know how much was really intended for Magus' role in CC...whatever it was, yes, it was abolished completely and we just got Guile...

Well, it's been a while since I played the game, so I could be confused on some minor points. You are right though, it doesn't give you the option of not saving Kid, it just lets you give up on her instead.

By 'all-appearances', I meant the similarities between skills, uhm, both being able to wield the masamune, both being named Glenn, and for all we know, Glenn in human form could have been a dirty blonde. they only had a limited use of colors back then. And obviously, it's not supposed to be the same Glenn, because the story starts out a little ways down the road from when Chrono and Crew did their thing, or were supposed to do their thing, I should say. Circa 1000 AD Glenn, if you will, a descendant of the original? Who's to say, but there are a lot of similarities.

And I like to think that Magus was slated to be in CC until they scrapped him.

The truth on the matter may be something else entirely.

Oh, and good luck with the upcoming part, Shee. I think the storyline is going to get a bit more interesting for you in a few hours gameplay.

Good luck, Shee! Kick all their asses... but... what happens after the fire place? I... forgot. I don't remember! Aaah!

Quick! When I get home, I need to play CC! Write it on your hand, Tea! WRITE IT ON YOUR HAND!!

... writing things on my hands helps me remember.

Um... yeah. Harle is an evil backstabbing wench, no matter what you do, Guile kicks some serious ass... uh... kick Solt and Peppor's asses, Marcy is okay at times...
Title: Re: Shee's CC diary
Post by: idioticidioms on January 21, 2009, 09:48:15 am
Harle is one of the hardest chars to get, too, lol. She was like the last char I got because of it. I haven't played CC in about 3-4 years now, but what I can remember is that after the fire cave, comes the Dragoon Fort for the first time, if I'm correct.

Sadly enough, Solt and Peppor do not learn their lesson for quite some time. Much like Ultros on Final Fantasy VI, you will fight them over and over and over, lol.

Post by: teaflower on January 21, 2009, 09:50:08 am
From what I remember, no matter what I did, Harle hung out with Lynx/Serge, until after some point. Then you're given three options. No matter what you choose, you next see her leaning on one of the rails on the big ship (which one is that again?), then she talks, then she jumps up and is gone forever.

I hate Harle.

... although she is good until you get better people...

CC Glenn does not look like CT Glenn...not even the stupid short-hair TOIE Glenn.

In addition, CC Glenn does not acquire the Grandleon (Japanese name for the Masamune that sounds more awesome). He gets the Einlanzer, and later gets to dual-wield both versions.

EDIT: Tea, that would be the S.S. Invincible, Fargo's ship in Another World.

like I said, it's been a while since I played, and since I'm on a crappy comp with barely enough Virtual memory to run 2D games, I'm stuck playing old SNES and NES roms.

You might want to buy those desktop computers that sell for like $200-$300 in stores, sure they're going to be thrown away, but it'll sure beat anything that you have now if you say you can barely play 2D games. :)

thats just the problem. Due to circumstances, I've been out of work for almost a year, just got hired on with a company, and have been sitting around on my arse for almost two months waiting for work to come in on that front. Once I get the money I am definitely getting a new comp, as this one is so old it's still running on Windows ME. I had to put a RAM chip in just to get more than 63mb of Ram.I'm lucky this dinosaur even runs my high speed connection, lol.

Well, it's been a while since I played the game, so I could be confused on some minor points. You are right though, it doesn't give you the option of not saving Kid, it just lets you give up on her instead.

Is it giving up if there really isn't anything you can do as far as you know? "I don't know" seems fitting in such a situation...How the hell IS he supposed to know what to do at that point?? Plus, he just met her.

By 'all-appearances', I meant the similarities between skills, uhm, both being able to wield the masamune

CC Glenn never does that.

...both being named Glenn...

Well, in-game it's said that CC Glenn was named after a hero from the past (Hmmm...I wonder which one that could be...)...

...and for all we know, Glenn in human form could have been a dirty blonde. they only had a limited use of colors back then.

Now you're just outright denying in-game evidence to suit your 'theory'.

HEY SHEE, WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE BATTLE SYSTEM!?

Thank you all for the interest.  And I happened to enjoy both marquees very much.  I haven't played since my last update, but I can still blather on about the battle system.

I think I like it.  A lot.  But I'm not 100 percent sold.  Serge (as of right now) is essentially head and shoulders above literally everyone else with his physical attacks, and can easily hang magically.  I usually can clear two enemies at a time with his first turn.  It's annoying as shit when you miss two times in a row in the one slot...96 percent my ass.  But I think the elements was a cool idea.  A bit mufftastic but a solid idea.  If I get one more MagmaBomb I'm gonna lose my shit.  The Field Effect is a REAL good idea in my opinion, but I think it should be more powerful.  And hittin' someone...say an innate black with a black element should be even less effective, in my opnion.  For example, when I was on the Ghost Ship there were a couple times that Guile NTBCWMORGFSF was able to still deal some nasty damage with black elements.

I'm sure I'll digress on the subject when I provide another update, which will be in a few hours.

Found one last night while browsing the net that had a cross-shaped scar: Yamcha from DBZ. Also, I believe that one of the characters from Street Fighter had one, too. M Bison's subordinate, I forget his name at the moment.

Yamcha from DBZ.

I think Yamcha only used a sword for like his first appearance before he broke it on Son Goku or something.

Do you mean Cammy, idioticidioms? She's the only one I'm familiar with that has a facial scar at all, but it isn't cross-shaped, it's just one line on the side of her chin...

So if we're just saying scarred up effers, there's Setzer...

Actually, M. Bison was Vega (final boss) and Vega was Balrog (claw & mask) while Balrog was M. Bison (Mike Tyson clone). Thank you Mike Tyson for making Capcom USA confuse the fuck out of us!

M. Bison - Final Boss
Vega - Masked Man
Balrog - Boxer

That's what I knew when I was a child...and we all called Balrog "Tyson" at that time. LOL

BTW, this guy from Vendetta is also a M. Tyson reference.

I'm actually just playing again for the first time since my thoughts on the battle system.  I have a question about the "Trap Elements."  If I use one, and that element dosen't get used, is that trap element gone forever?  Or do i keep it until I actually get the jont to work?

Some traps are kinda good for the later level 6 Elements that are kinda rare...and the 2nd batch of Summons too, I guess (though I never bothered with them because they disappear from your inventory on NG+...wtf is that shit btw???)...

Serge, Kid, and Guile was my main party through the game. Until the shit hit the fan and I lost most of my party members. Then I ran around with Lynx, Harle, and Sneff. Then when Harle left, I believe I went Lynx, Marcy, and Sneff. Then, when Serge came back, it was Serge, Marcy, and Guile. They kick some ass, man!

I never used the traps. They seemed like such a waste. I never went with summons, either. Too much work getting them to be able to be used... but Luminaire kicks ass, as does LightninRod and WandaSwords. As well as WandaIn. Oh, where did my stick go? It's in your tummy!

I think it's just people's comps, because I see it as it should be, covered in black highlight.

Shee, I can't help you with the element traps because I hardly used them when I was playing. I didn;t see the point, since each element is able to be obtained through other means as well. Just seemed like more of a headache to me than anything else.

For me it's not covered. The text appears larger and bolder. In fact, it is easier to see.

Anyway on to Chrono Cross. I always remembered the music being good, but boy...it's really good. It combines elements of both Radical Dreamers and Chrono Trigger. It also has elements of different cultures and styles. It sounds amazing.

The battle system is fun, but the sprite animations are often weak. There's no victory celebrations. Other sprite problems come from Serge. He really feels emotionless and mute due to the lack of sprite animations. The graphics as a whole still hold up though.

It is inferior, but for the record, Microsoft will provide free setup/installation for IE7 until March 23rd I believe, pretty sure it'll be pushed back again, free suport for it was supposed to expire sometime back in 2007.. Microsoft is very much aware that most PC users use Firefox/Safari instead of IE, and they want people to learn to appreciate it by offering free services for it.

aHAAAAAAAAA!  UPDATE TIME

Okay, so it's been a while, eh?  No worries, this is still goin on!  I met up with Bruce Sprigsteen, who apparently is female, yet shall remain named the aforementioned Bruce Sprigsteen, who had some pretty kick ass dialogue in their first scene there.  I totally dug it.

Then I went into the tower and met up with Harle, who had some VERY sweet dialogue as well.  Lots of stuff to ponder in these scenes.  The tower was weird....I saw Guile NTBCWMOGFSF and Poshul in the tower as well as Serge.  Then I talked to Ma and got up with Old Man Radius...and we just went through teh Fossil Valley, and Imma explore some before going to Termina with the eventual dance along that comes every time I'm there.

The Crew:
Lynx
Harle
Bruce Sprigsteen
Old Man Radius

Bruce is on the bench right now.

UPDATE, though it is a small one.  Got the comp running finally, and it took a minute for me to remember just what in the hell was going on.  So I met with Chuck Norris' estranged blonde bastard son Helen, and we headed to Termina.  of course we get there and I'm thinking SWEET, gonna ride in this big boat.  But no.  We ride out in a Pinto equivalent piece of crapola that's even saucier then Korcha's.

Then I forgot where I was supposed to go.  I went to some cruise ship.  The music was straight but didn't find much to do.  Didn't look too hard either.  Then I went Guldove and bought some stuff, but didn't feel like exploring.  Next was Marbule, where I was pleasantly surprised to bump into Toma, though I didn't get a chance to toss back some "Pop" with him.

AAAAAAnd then I went to to the El Nido Triangle because it caught my eye, and I fought some peeps and got an @Mythril which was pleasant, but after a few battles I came here to post the update.  Probably will explore a little more and trade out Helen.  He's had his turn already, though I think I'll give him a little more time.

I say stay with Sprigg, myself...I love learning what's on the Element grids of various monsters...Go, Dodo, I choose you...!!! If you're ever in a jam, she's always got something up her sleeve that can pull you out. She's like a controllable Gau (i.e. a Blue Mage)!! *gasp*
Title: Re: Shee's CC diary
Post by: idioticidioms on February 15, 2009, 06:52:05 am
you could have went with a Strago reference or at the very least a reference to FFV's job system's Blue Mage. Gau isn't even a Blue Mage because he basically becomes the monster (except in appearance) and loses control. which is why the call it rage instead of blue magic.

Of course, they call Strago's stuff 'Lore' but it hints in the game that it's Blue Magic.

With Gau, there's no magic involved.

Sorry, FFVI is the game that got me started playing RPG's. I know it inside and out, lol.
Title: Re: Shee's CC diary
Post by: V_Translanka on February 15, 2009, 07:20:39 am
How is there no magic involved? The story hints that he even may be the result of Magitek experiments by the Empire in Vector. Plus, various monsters' abilities he uses (if you use a monster's abilities, you're a Blue Mage in my book, so I'd even include Relm in that boat) are Magic.

I started on FFVI as well. It rulz.

And Sprigg uses the monster's whole set of abilities, not just one specific Magic, so I felt that a Strago reference didn't fit as well. I would have mentioned the FFV Blue Mage, but I don't really like FFV very much so :P Blue Mages in general I rarely enjoy...
Title: Re: Shee's CC diary
Post by: Fireseal on February 15, 2009, 01:52:07 pm
I concur that Blue Mages aren't that 'wow'. In FFV, they were pretty overshadowed by all the other classes(except Bard and Hunter).. In fact, I didn't like FFV AT ALL! haha I liked it even less than FFII, and we all know how bad that one was.. I still can't believe I beat FFII.. Anyhow the only time where Blue Mages shined were in FFTA and in FFXI Online when they first came out and did more damage than Black Mages & Summoners and could heal better than White Mages and Red Mages.

As for using Sprigg, I used him/her for my first playthrough until I got to the Dead Sea, and then way later on when I was able to transform him/her as Slash to use the Z-slash with Sprigg(as Slash), Serge and Kid.. I wasn't impressed so I dropped him/her like a rock after that.

Title: Re: Shee's CC diary
Post by: idioticidioms on February 15, 2009, 04:58:46 pm
I thought Final Fantasy II was a pretty good game, though they did go a little bit over-the-top in killing off characters in it.

I think that FFV got a bad rap, because by that point the story of the crystals had become old news, so to speak and they really weren't coming up with too many new ideas to incorporate them in. Though while that is a downside, the job system is spectacular, the fights are awesome and the storyline, besides the crystals, is pretty good.

You do notice that after FFV, they branched off of the crystals for the most part, except for giving them a slight nod in FFVI by making the Espers crystalline form resemble that of the Crystals. They didn't pick them back up fully though until FF9, and they did a really good job on that game. I enjoyed it completely. Then they left them alone again after that until FFXII and did a nice job of incorporating them into that while also tying FFTA more firmly into the story.

But as to why people generally dislike FFV: In most cases, it's the fact that the storyline is not too unique, and some people just didn't like the job system. Some even complain that it's too difficult. Personally, I have enjoyed every final fantasy game I've ever played. While I haven't enjoyed EVERY part of every game, all of them are damn good games comparatively. Keep in mind that I am not saying they're the best rpg series, just that they're really good, nonetheless. You can argue this, but seriously, 500 million people can't be wrong.

I concur that Blue Mages aren't that 'wow'. In FFV, they were pretty overshadowed by all the other classes(except Bard and Hunter)..

Actually, Aero3 is one of the best attacks in the game...and Hunter has X-Attack which is probably the best physical attack in the game.

I usually don't like FFV as much as most others (it's ok, not bad, but not great either)...I'd put FFIII above it, but not FFII (which is okay in its own right, but annoying)...The story is bleh and the characters besides Galuf (who only redeems himself at the end) and the idea of Faris are extra bleh.

I guess I just like Sprigg because she kind of has the most unique Techs out of the rest of the cast.

Actually, they had a huge, blatant reference in FVII, in the form of the Huge Materia (4 Crystal looking objects, Red, Blue, Green & Yellow, at 4 different places in the world, the need to protect them, etc.). I'm so shocked that an allusion so obvious is missed by so many.
Title: Re: Shee's CC diary
Post by: V_Translanka on February 16, 2009, 12:41:00 am
I think most people overlook Magicite & Materia (which are a lot alike) as being Crystal references because they have different names.

Oh yeah, and you only have to allocate like 3 Elements to Sprigg's grid! Allocating people's grids is always the most boring part of CC playthroughs...

Hooray for storyline progress...sorta!!

Went to the desert isle...Earth Dragon maybe?  Got some treasure, had a chat with Toma again, went BACK to the cruise ship and found much more to do.  Then there was the part where I was a cat...

And I loved it.  The otherwise repetitive usic of the cruise ship took the cat experience to a whole new level for me.  And some cool dialogue...funny with the animals and rather dreary yet sometimes deep with the passengers/workers.  Still, I couldn't help but think of Super Troopers with all the meows after each sentence!

The scenes between Fargo and Mikki were a total disaster in my book.  It could of been done so much better than "Ah!  'Tis a scratch on my ma's old dresser!"  I exaggerate, but still.  It was rough.  Snarf, er, Sneff was cool.  A total heartbreaker for me.  He joined The Crew.  I'm about to go listen to Nikki tell me some crap because he was looking for some tough guys.  And by tough guys he meant a cat a clown and a gambler not named Setzer.  This guy's a douche, I'm glad he didn't join me way back when I was going into Viper manor...

HEEEEEYOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Been a while!  I forgot how pretty damn sweet this game is!  Rather addicting when some progress is actually made!  I do think though, that I have had near enough of Lynx But Serge.  Still a fun character and all, but after watching the opening sequence a few times (to get the atmosphere going, ya know?  or am I weird?) I missed the Olde Crew.  So I listened to Nikki, what a bore.  But Spicy Irenes joined The Crew.  And then went to the Dead Sea and...

THE MASAMUNE IS BAD!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?

Whaaaat is that about?  Old Man Radius filled us in on the checkered past, and we went for Garai's Jam and then to the tomb jam.  Excuse me,  the Isle of the Damned.  Fought a lot of unnecessary flame battles, save stated, then procedded to get railed by Garai.  Didn't feeling like trying again.  Alas alas alas, more to come...

I remember having my soul being eaten by Garai. I don't remember who I used, though. I suggest you keep a lot of white elements and maybe have someone with white inate. Like Riddel. Or you can try and boost your stats. That could work.

When I first played this game many years ago, my party at that time was:

Lynx-Harle-Norris

I suggest switching Radius out for (Chuck) Norris. I found that his Spiral Ray tech helped quite a bit and his accuracy was much better than Radius'. However, that is totally up to you and your preference.

Whooped that Jabrone's ass 2nd time through...same party of Lynx But Serge Harle and Old Man Radius.  Then of course I didn't feel like playing anymore.  I fought the damn flames too many times the first go 'round and then ran into one on the way out and lost my shit.  Won't be playin' for a few days, so alas, it must end here for now.  The Party and The Crew are exactly the same as before, seeing as I've gone 11 steps since the last update.

I always use Harle the whole time I'm Lynx...usually with Sprigg (the extra Revive Element in the Dodo's grid really helps since those things are so damn rare)...

Also, Shee, the nicknames are cute, but you DO realize with so many characters at CC's disposal that you're going to lose a lot of us here (if not yourself)...>_>

I've had Harle w/ Lynx But Serge and Kid with Serge pretty much the whole time....I'm trying to retain at least some semblence of the original name in their....such as Chuck Norris' estranged daughter Helen...who uses guns and will probably not enter The Party again.

As for losing myself...I did that long ago... 8)

Ummmm...

*clears throat*

One week, quarter year...what's the difference?  I have been playing some, and have entered the ol' Dead Sea.  The party remains the same, as discussed in previous posts.  I still have many questions, but I'm holding out on finishing the game first.  As stated before, the Lynx But Serge deal has lost its effect for me.
I, by some beautiful grace, have a slow week coming.  So I'll try to make a nice chunk and put up another decent update, complete with the ridiculous nicknames and my thoughts on the new additions.

At the end of it all I plan on making a sweeping grand judgement of the game, as this (along with documenting my journey there) was the original plan.
