Title: Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Post by: Shadow D. Darkman on December 18, 2008, 08:59:07 am
Speaks for itself.

EDIT: F.Y.I. for those who don't know, D.X.C. is the PSP game Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles which had a dubbed version of the original Rondo of Blood (the main game was a remake) as well as the updated, re-dubbed version of Symphony of the Night shown in the poll.

I was never really into the Castlevanias, and only got into these supposed "Castleroids" via the GBA (technically for me, VBA )...and even then, really just Aria of Sorrow...I get stupid lost in these games though...I don't remember ever getting this kind of lost in any of the Metroid games (not counting the original that didn't have a map)...V_V

I guess the most exciting thing of the PSP version is, it contains an English version of Nocturne?

I guess the only downside of DXC compared to NitM is that not everything from NitM was carried over. Only the Fairy and N-Demon cards, the extra Maria stuff (battle and gameplay), and the Richter Glitch in the Shaft battle, only those were carried over.

If I missed anything in that list, lemme know.

EDIT: Forgot that they also translated "Nocturne" into English. My bad.

Never played it.

Just played the original for NES and a little bit of the 2nd one.  good enough for me.

The Playstation version felt "cleanest" to me in terms of gameplay, though I never touched the PSP version. I loved how the Saturn version made Maria this kung fu sorceress, but the PSP version has her shooting animals in an attempt to be faithful to Rondo of Blood. Blech, I'll take kung fu over killer birds any day, though Alfred Hitchcock might like to have a word with me.

Or maybe another oldschool platformer (quasi-similar to Castlevania in gameplay), 8 Eyes...

Oh yeah, I wanted to ask, why did you letter the selections in the poll...?

SotN was epic on the Playstation--it might have been one of the best games I owned, even if I did trade it in to get FFTactics.

But seriously, it's fucking great on the Playstation--I haven't played much on the PSP, but SotN was testimony to the fact that 2D platformers could still survive against some 3D competitors.

See letters D, E, and F. That's why.

D, E and F are unnecessary.

edit: nor is G or H

What does being a staff member have to do with stating a fact?

Shadow and placidchap, note that you are both escalating the situation. Shadow apparently has the option to make a freaky multiple choice test poll, so whatever. V_Trans will edit if it's really worth his time. Shadow, for your part, please realize that the Compendium forums are based on mutual respect for all members, and there really isn't an "admins reign supreme" attitude here, though they take action from time to time. To get you oriented, V_Trans is our resident global Mod, I'm sort of a ninja admin who pitches in with random administrative things, and ZeaLitY, Ramsus, Radical_Dreamer, and Lord J are the original Admins. They're like the Four Musketeers of the Compendium.

Ah, my apologies, Faust. Forums I've been part of in the past have had rules in place where the admins are supreme authority. Old habits die hard, but they will die eventually.

...

Or I'll get the BanHammer before they can die. But that's unlikely since Trans is a good person and Schala is my friend. Z I can't give an opinion on, and you... *struggles for the words* ...are too nice for that, methinks.

They're unnecessary in that they really don't answer the question...But tbh, I didn't really read the options since I knew I haven't played any of them (which also originally left me wondering why there were so many versions of it! >_<)...

And yeah, admin status, post count, fancy avy & sigs, etc. don't matter...

I spent a summer on SotN on the Playstation. I was dead excited about the updates that were being made to it for DXC. However, I felt it was somewhat lacking in the epic department. Yeah, the VA's for Richter and Maria were legions better than the PSX counterparts, but Alucard.....the hell happened?! Alucard was a total bad ass on the PSX version, and DXC's VA sounded like an emotionless robot! C'mon man! "GO BACK WHENCE YOU CAME! TROUBLE THE SOUL OF MY MOTHER NO MORE!" That was totally solid!

Plus, why they lost "Die, Monster." or "What is a man!?" in the intro stage irritated me a bit. Maria also sucked. Big disappointment. I wanted spell-slinging Maria that could slaughter everything on screen like NitM's Maria!

My vote is for the original, by far.
