so I've been playing New game + with Robo equipped with his Armageddon Arm and a Dragon Tear to boost critical hits. So far, he's ended fights with Slash and Flea, Masamune, Lavos (on several occasions), and even Ozzie sorta. (he no longer counterattacks and can't be selected as a target). But most recently was the funniest.
Magus and Frog have this long-winded dialogue before the fight with Magus... then as soon as the fight starts, I wait for Robo, select him, have him attack Magus, and he jumps on Magus with a FALCON PAWWWWNCH... INSTANTLY ENDING THE FIGHT!
Shortest. Magus fight. Ever.

Falcon... PUNCH!!!
EDIT: Got the game, got the stuff, pwned some bosses into Kingdom Come.
-
I think it's called Apocalypse Arm?
But I think even if you equip Dragon's Tear, the critical rate is not high enough, you need a little luck.
-
Actually it is high enough for me. You just need patience.
-
You get the same effect from Ayla's Bronzefist, if you have the pacience to level her up all the way up to the 90s. But, yeah. I have to try that sometime.
-
now see that's something I'm still working on, so A. Arm carries me over until then (and then I have double the carnage!) And you know in CT DS, Ayla has an accessory made especially for her that boosts critical hit rates, so yay for me!!! and you know... you guys who got the game...
-
I have Robo equipped with both the Apocalypse Arm and the Dragon's Tear, and he still doesn't do critical hits that often. Granted, more often than normal, but not by much. :?
-
Keep him in your party, he's handy in boss fights.
-
Well, he did help me make quick work of Lavos's second form (the first one you fight inside him). One attack from Marle (with the Venus Bow) + two critical hits by Robo = victory

Same here. I was like, "Apocalypse Arm plus Dragon Tear! Go!" Lackluster results. He crits every couple of fights, and then the novelty wears off.
Edit: I called it the "Armageddon Arm," too...
-
Dragon's Tear raises critical rate, but who have the exact data information?
-------------
Edit*
Each weapon has different critical rate, so maybe AA has a lower rate.
-
Yeah, if I recall, Ayla's Bronze Fist has a lot lower critical rate than her other fists... Her first four have steadily rising critical rates, and then at Bronze it shoots down to 30% or 40% or something... I imagine Apocalypse Arm has something like 20% or 30%. :/
Still incredibly useful, though. I actually ended the second Lavos form before I killed the arms... It was awesome. :D
How high does the Dragon Earring (Japanese name) raise critical hit percentage? I imagine it's something like 20%, maybe... Robo definitely doesn't critical as much as I expected him to. :/ The Dragon Earring does help though. I've ended multiple boss fights with it.
(Does anyone know how critical rates actually work? Do they raise with level too or something? o.O)

I'm gonna' estimate 20% as well. I gave it to Crono with his Rainbow equipped, and he seemed to critical about 9 out of 10 times.
I didn't actually keep track. So don't quote me on it, but he was definitely hitting criticals almost 100% of the time. I should try giving him the Dragon Tear and the Dreamseeker and see if he can reach 100% crit rate. If he does, we know the Dragon Tear increases crit rate at least 10%.

Each weapon has a base critical rate(usuall not show), e.g., Dreamseeker has 90% which makes it extremely powerful.
Some weapons have poor values, e.g., Crisis Arm 5%...
Well, you can find them here: http://www.chronocompendium.com/Term/Weapons_(Chrono_Trigger).html (http://www.chronocompendium.com/Term/Weapons_(Chrono_Trigger).html)

Yeah, I've looked at that page before. The Encyclopedia is full of good stuff. :) (I like the artwork, too)
It hasn't updated with the new CTDS stuff, though, so we still don't know the exact rates. :(

Hmm, it seems critical rate is not list here too...
Maybe someone has to hack the rom to see those values. lol
Oh, it's at the bottom of that page.
-
Yes, I imagine that's the case.
Edit: Nevermind. >.<
Edit 2: Gah, I can't read Japanese! D: I'll try Babelfish... (Even though I know Babelfish is terrible at translating stuff)
Edit 3: Okay, translated it. Dragon Earring and the Valor Crest do indeed raise critical ratio by a mere 20%. :( Also, Apocalypse Arm seems to only have a 10% critical rate. :( Even with the Dragon Earring, that's still only 30%... Oh well, instant 9999-age one third of the time isn't that bad! :)
-
Actual CR(except Dreamseeker and Rainbow) = (weapon CR + 1) x 3/256
ドラゴンピアス/Dragon's Earing/Dragon's Tear +20%
青竜/Bluedragon/Icewyrm 40%
夢幻/Illusion/Dreamseeker 90%
スターダスト/Stardust/Stardust Bow 40%
ヴィーナス/Venus 0%
クイックショット/Quickshot/Turboshot 30%
魔銃/Magic Gun/Spellslinger 0%
ドラゴンアーム/Dragon Arm 15%
ゼロクライシス/Zero Crisis/Apocalypse Arm 10%
ディノブレード/Dinoblade 23%
英雄バッジ+グランドリオン/Hero badge+Masamune 50%
ブレイブソウル/Bronze Fist +20%
裁きの大鎌/Judgment Scythe 30%
ナイトメア/Nightmare/Dreamreaper 20%

I know I'm no math genius, but 30% is less than 1/3...>_>
-
I wonder what it would be two have two accesory slot. Dragon Tear plus the item taht raises the damage calculation... WOW! :'( EPIC!
Anyways, I might think of starting New Game + after I beat all three Vortexes... Or after I get everyone's ultimate Equipment.

On average. One third is, mathematically speaking, exactly 33.333333333... (times infinity) 30% is a pretty close average.
(Oh, and it seems that the Crisis Arm + Rapid-fire Fist combo is still better than the Apocalypse Arm + Dragon Earring combo... On average, you'd deal 9999 every three turns or so with a 30% critical rate for the AA. However, in three turns, you could deal ~18000 damage with three Rapid-fire Fists with the Crisis Arm equipped)
And yeah, double accessory slots would be pretty cool. :) Alas, it is not so.
-
That was one change into CC that I thought was strange.
-
Hmm, well, why can't you wear pair of bracelets, pair of earings, a necklace, and 10 rings(sounds ironic though) at the same time.
-
Because the magics would get in your body and rot you from the inside out! Magic's like radiation, man.
-
DnD advance basics: no more then one protective magical bonus per character regardless of what the item is, This does not include Potions, Spells, Curses, Blessing, Racial bonuses/penalties, Magic weapons, or anything otherwise excused by the DM. Jeez people this is the BASICS.
-

Interesting explanation. From Kato himself, I presume?

It's still a question of whether or not the upkeep of the Crisis Arm is worth it. Robo, being your main healer, would be the one devoting himself his own healing, which slaughters his damage output against either multiple or counter-attacking enemies, and even if you start draining your items, or bring along another healer, then your just slowing down someone else. Plus, Armageddon Arm is all purpose, it works through defenses, barriers, everything, there is no enemy (aside from Spekkio, Shadow, etc.) that it is not a viable tactic for. If only for it's low maintenance and versatility, I still give my vote for the Armageddon Arm.
