Title: Favorite Chrono Song
Post by: ONSLAUGHT on November 28, 2008, 03:48:55 pm
This one might be tougher for some to figure out, and i put up some of the more well known songs from the series, so take your pick! And always there is other for those who's favorite song isn't listed(it's already long enough as it is!)

For me, my favorite song would have to be To The Outskirts Of Time. The song is very touching, and hearing such an awesome song also after beating Lavos, I don't think they could've done anything else to make the song feel so much more rewarding, and with the whole feeling of them getting to see everyone again as the song is playing also makes it just so much grander, seeing every single environment, and even without visuals you can put in your own just with the melody which grandly says more words than any artist could ever write down.

Very tempted to say Silbird's theme because of this~ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-TKiDLicB4k)

Besides that, I really, really love Life ~ Faraway Promise from Cross. Star Stealing Girl from both RD and CC is lovely, too. For Trigger, it'd probably be Yearnings of the Wind (600 AD).

Oh well, at least we can post in this one without it going down as reviving a dead thread.

As for my favorite song, it would have to be Chrono Trigger. It's... immortal. That's all I can say.

Really? I checked and didn't find any threads like this one. Of course I could've just missed something.

Zeal Palace
Ocean Palace
Flying Epoch
World Revolution
Battle with Magus
Lavos core battle (minus his annoying screech)
Arni Village
Corridors of Time
Singing Mountain
Brink of Death
Optimism

The Ocean Palace theme. Whenever it plays, you know the situation's desperate so it's time to kick some ass.

Schala's Theme - Wings that Cross Time - Black Dream - World Revolution - Last Battle - To Far Away Times

Chrono Cross:

Theme of Chrono Cross - Edge of Death - Plains of Time - Dragon Knight - Zelbess - Optimism
Dead Sea-Ruined Tower - People Imprisoned by Destiny - Magical Dreamers - FATE (God's Destiny)

With great music as these, it's hard to have THE favorite one.

Well me, personally(I don't know about anyone else)know when a song really touches me. I can't help but smile, feel warm, and almost a sense of I dunno if it's pride or just wanting to do something. Only a select few songs can truly give me such a feeling of passion about a song, and although pretty much every song even the 7 second ones come close with many of those symptoms, only the last two from CT are able to do it for me. Other than Chrono I've had 3 songs besides those two do it for me.

But that's just me, there are plenty of other ways of knowing your favorite! Which one you like listening to the most, or you can hang their titles on a dart board and fire away!

I choose corridors of time. It is hard to choose, since there're so many memorable pieces.
I like to listen to a piece over and over again, I rarely keep more than 1 song in my winamp playlist...
Yeah, some pieces are great, but I just find I can listen to COT for a whole day without getting bored.

You see I'm not taking about in game experience.

Other pieces(not in order)

Frozen Flame(RD/CC)
Another Gardov(CC) - It's so peaceful
Radical Dreamers (CC) - no one choose it? *surprised
Singing mountain(CT) - I paid more attention to it because it is an unreleased track, but at last I found I love it.
Magus Theme(CT) - Just epic, the black wind.
Schala's Theme(CT) - Like a gentle breeze.
Le Trésor Interdit(RD)
....

I remember first hearing a MIDI of Singing Mountain on The Video Game Music Archive (http://www.vgmusic.com), and I thought it was kickass, and wondered why it wasn't in CT. I'm glad it finally made it in CTDS, but does anyone know why they didn't put in The Mysterious Laboratory (CTP Keeper's Dome)? If anything, it would definitely fit in the Temporal Research Lab in one of the Dimensional Vortices.

I have to say it's a tie between Time's Scar (my vote), Radical Dreamers (love that acoustic goodness), Singing Mountain (mysterious...), and that music boxy tune from RD. I don't remember what it was, but it was awesome.
Title: Re: Favorite Chrono Song
Post by: utunnels on January 06, 2009, 12:08:49 pm
Several pieces in RD sound like Dream Shore from CC, including the music box one.
Hmm, if I recall, it is called "Far Promise", I don't know whether it has an official name.

------------

*Edit
They don't have official names.

Yeah, I was thinking Far Promise... um... if only I had Rylan's USB cord with me. I have it on my MP3 player, Rylan, but he lacks a screen. The only way to tell what each song is is by memory.

Although I was not thinking about this piece at that time, but maybe it was just a coincidence, this 2 pieces are both in music box style.

My vote goes to Life - Faraway Promise because it is in my opinion the most inimitable song of the Chrono soundtrack, the most inspired, that plunges me to a distorsion of melancholy and hope.
Yeah I'm definitely thinking too much but this song is just great.
And because of its undeniable impact in the game too.

I like Frog's theme- The Intro that was cut from the game version. It makes it so much better for some reason. My Runner Up's would have to be Times Scar, because I love how it goes from sad sounding to upbeat, Chrono Trigger, because it's an excellent song to describe the game, Gale from Radical Dreamers, because it's cooler than Cross's, and World Revolution. For Obvious reasons.
Title: Re: Favorite Chrono Song

With all these troops who have died and are dying, "Frog's Theme (Complete)" would be quite fitting with the fact that they fought and died for something they stood for.

(Note that the song must come with the intro that was cut from the game if it is ever actually played.)

Yeah, speaking Frog's them, I like the one used in the ending CG, just like I like Shadow's theme in the ending of FF VI. A pity, both of them only last few seconds.

BTW, just searched youtube over, and found some impressive pieces.

Far Promise from Radical Dreamers.  Of all the songs Mitsuda put to 'music box' styles this one is my favorite.

For top three of each game.

CT:
Black Omen theme
Battle with Magus
Memories of Green

RD:
Far Promise (Both the music box and epilogue versions)
Star Stealing Girl (I prefer it without the Lalala from CC)
Ending theme ~ Le Tresor Interdit (Lovely guitar for using the SFC sound)

CC:
Time's Scar
Radical Dreamers
The Dream that Time Dreams (The song played during the game demo, which is a mash up of the main themes from CT and RD)

I don't really know... It's hard to pick just one. They're all so good.

I suppose it depends on which one you think fits the mood best. For most emotional? The Last Day of the World hands down. Most dramatic? Lavos's Theme, probably. Best battle music? Well, either World Revolution or The Last Battle, of course. :p I like Battle 2 for some reason though. Best area BGM? Singing Mountain, of course. ;) I love the soft, peaceful, melodious tune. Chrono Trigger is a pretty good theme too, as are the PC themes. (And Schala's too. :D)

Like I said, it's hard to pick just one. They're all excellent in different ways.

(One thing I have to say, though, is that every single theme in the Chrono series is not a song. Pieces of music are only songs if they have lyrics. Otherwise, they're themes or musics)

Wrong, Radical Dreamers -Unstolen Thoughts- is a song, it has lyrics. Japanese, but lyrics.

This was tough, but "Black Dream" has always sounded the most phenomenal to me...it's chilling, deep, and doesn't have the characteristic twang of most other Chrono pieces (which is interesting, cause that general Chrono feel gives all the songs a very touching effect--something to relate to). Nonetheless, "Black Dream" is probably the piece I like the most. And I suppose the most memorable would be "Frog's Theme"...I loved it as a kid, but I've only heard it captured phenomenally once--in the PLAY! concert--they managed to pull out the epic grandiose of the song, and contrast it with the calming, somewhat soft nature of the song: a perfect tribute to the character himself.

And one of the greatest themes ever has to be Radical Dreamers...I'd say it's probably one of the coolest themes I've ever heard from a video game...it's damn impressive and so deep. Simply beautiful.

I've been debating on whether or not to suggest Frog's Theme (Complete) when my church does its tribute to our soldiers, dead, alive, active, reserve, or retired. Given who the song is for, it should be quite fitting, amirite?

Some of my favorite songs in the world have no lyrics.

Things without lyrics aren't songs though... -_- People always just say "song" to refer to any type of music, which is incorrect. Songs are only tracks of music with people singing in them. If there are no lyrics, then it's a theme or a music.

And yeah, all the characters' themes are really good. Like I said, though, there are so many that it's hard to choose. Corridor of Time, Singing Mountain, and Undersea Palace are good area BGMs, though. I like Wings That Cross Time, too.

Umm...no.  They're called instrumental songs.  I would love to see you go up to John Petrucci and tell him that the 17 minutes of awesomeness known as When The Water Breaks isn't a song.  Or go to Fourtet or Aphex Twin and tell them their beautiful music aren't songs.  Buddy Rich drummining upside down?  Okay, THAT'S not a song...

EDIT: So yea I read the above and well....as a drummer from 2 bands, drummed in 4 states, played on the same stage as 311, Less Than Jake, The Offspring, Blue Oyster Cult and Vanilla Ice (though not at the same time, it just makes me feel good to say it)...I get wound up over tunage easily.  My apologies.  So i ask to clarify then, Choco, are talking about only Chrono tunes when you made the previous points or all music.  If it's just Chrono tunes, I'll turn away with my tail inbetween my legs.  If it's all music, consider my original post to have flames and Satan dancing around it.

The people for whom the music will be played, the soldiers and their friends and family, will not have heard the song, they will not have played Chrono Trigger, and they will have no concept that it is the theme for a fictional character you charactarize as brave. Your heart may be in the right place, but it would be inapproriate in this circumstance to play that song.

Such a good question!
It's really hard to narrow down my favorites, but they are from Chrono Cross.
At The Shore of Dreams (Another World), and Star-Stealing Girl are up there, but Time's Scar beats them both.
Listening to The Girl who Stole the Stars on Radical Dreamers was what finally got me off my ass to order Chrono Cross on Ebay, and listening to the first of these got me off my ass and onto fanfiction.net to start writing Kirge.

My favorite from CT is easily Time to Rest ~ After the Battle, from the PSX and DS versions of CT.
At the end of Chrono Trigger DS I listened to it and cried.

I'm still working on said Kirge, though.

Favorites from CT:
To Far Away Times
Sealed Door
Corridors of Time
Secret of the Forest
Frog's Theme
Battle 2
Battle with Magus
Time To Rest ~ After The Battle
Ruined World
and of course
Singing Mountain (This one grew on me as I heard it in the Dimensional Vortex, I actually used to not like it)

Favorites from RD:
Gale
Under the Moonlight
Snake-bone Room
and God I love the FEELING in the ambient tracks inside the manor.
Far Promise ~ Dream Shore

Favorites from CC:

TIME'S SCAR (<3 <3 <3)
At The Shore of Dreams (Another World)
Star-Stealing Girl

Grief
Voyage (Another World)
Snake-bone Room (It sounds about identical to it's RD counterpart)
Beginning of a Dream
Gale (I actually really liked the battle music, yet I always hear people complain about it.)
Earth Dragon's Island
A Narrow Space Between Dimensions (I do homework to this one :D)
Dragon God
Dream's Of Time
Jellyfish Sea

I chose zeal theme but I actually have quite a few that I like equally,so it was a tough choice!
here we go:
corridors of time,frog's theme,schala's theme,magus' theme,singing mountain,ayla's theme for CT
fragments of a dream, time's scar, voyage another, the theme in both another and home map and, above all,the ending song radical dreamers-unstolen thoughts for CC (I SOOO love that song!)

I'm caught between Frog's theme, world revolution, and Time's scar.  Frog's theme is probably my favorite CT song but World revolution comes close.  And Time's scar is probably my favorite CC Song.  But it's harder to tell because I can never remember all the songs from that game.  I seriously need to get the CC soundtrack.

Hmmm let's see what I got on my iPod

- Another Marbule
This song is just awesome. Not as awesome as Nikki's version but still awesome.

- The Black Wind Howls Again
Remix by MegaDriver. Awesome theme.

- Time's Scar
Need to ask? This song is awesome, first thing I heard when I played CC for the first time, and stole my heart from the first second.

- Chrono Trigger (Chrono's Theme)
Dunno, this theme always gives me that "Hell yeah let's rock Chrono in the house" feeling. It stays cool no matter how many times I listen.

- Chronomantique (Aka Home World map theme)
Amazing how they made something new out of the Chrono Trigger theme. It sounds really tropical and relaxed. I can really relax when I hear this.

- Dead Sea ~ Ruined Tower
Such a sad melody... I love it.

- Dragon God
Whoever sang that, it was awesome. Favorite boss theme ever.

- Dragon Knight
Acacia Dragoons in the house, hell yeah!! Awesome song, this.

- Dreamwatch of Time
For some reason, they only used this track for a demo version or something. Dunno what it was, but they never actually used it somewhere important, which is a shame, because this track is very awesome.

- Frog's Theme
Yeah, good ol' Froggie... Ta da da da da da da... Oh yeah.

- Frozen Flame
Love it. It pitches a bit high though, which sometimes hurts my ears when the volume of my h/ps is too high.

- Life ~ Faraway Promise
It's a new version of Schala's theme, how can I not love it.

- Magical Dreamers ~ The Wind, the Stars, and the Sea
YES! This is just such an awesome song. I absolutely love it. I loved it the first time I heard it when I saw Nikki's concert. I loved it after that, and I still love it. I will always love it.

- Navel of the World
Dunno, it sounds really cool. Nothing really special but it sounds cool.

- Orphanage of Flame
Awesome music. Awe-some.

- People Imprisoned By Destiny
This track made me wipe a tear. Really.

- Radical Dreamers
Whoever sings it, has a delicious voice.

- Singing Mountain
Always loved it.

- Star Stealing Girl
This is hard not to love. Such a sad and beautiful theme.

- Star Tower
Yeah! The sound of that bell is really creepy and awesome at the same time! Always gives me goosebumps.

- To Far Away Times
I felt so damn good when I completed Trigger and I heard this music. It really did make me wipe my tears. Oh, what a beautiful theme.

- Voyage ~ Home World
Same as Chronomantique, really relaxing and tropical. Awesome.

Well that's about it.

There are too many good tracks, so it's hard to decide, but I've always liked Frog's theme, followed by Robo's theme.
