Yeah, god forbid Japanese people print something in Japanese. We're lucky that something's even coming out. This is probably going to contain commentary by Kato on the Dream Devourer, so I'll try to get a copy for future translation.

I'll get my copy too! I guess there's a lot of info about the Arena inside. I would like to see all evolution charts.

To translate a whole book? Do you know how much it would cost to do that?!
It costs couple hundred dollars just to translate a few pages of documents...

Realistically, the site's been around long enough that we should've just learned Japanese.

Alright, so I purchased a copy of this the day before CT DS came out in Japan, and I suppose I'll be the bearer of bad news.

As far as I can read (And I can read Japanese pretty well), there is no info on the Dream Devourer, Lavos, or any of that jazz. No commentary either. In fact, there isn't even a strategy on how to beat any of the canon bosses in the extra dungeon. The dimensional Vortex gets no coverage. Disappointing? Yes, it is.

I'd argue the book isn't worth it, but because it's something related to our favorite series, I'd recommend buying it just to boost sales. Heh.

If anyone has any questions about the content, feel free to ask me.

Well this sounds somewhat disappointing. You would think they would include an interview or such in it to explain some of the aspects of the new content.

Alright, turns out I lied. The book does contain info on the Lost Sanctum and the Dimensional Vortex.

The bad news is that it's so scant, that that's the reason I missed it in the first place. Both extras get a mere two pages each, neither detailing anything remotely useful about either dungeon set. Especially in the case of the Dimensional Vortex which only outlines where the three gates are, and what the maps for the gates look like. That's it. No strategy on any bosses, nothing.

The rest of the book serves as a fairly good guide to the game, with a list containing all teches, a full bestiary (Save for any creatures new to this version), and various info on every time period. Nothing enlightening in the least, but if you don't already know CT like the back of your hand, I certainly can't see you purchasing a worse guide at the moment (Given it's the only one available right now...).

I'd advise people wait though. When Sigma Harmonix had first came out, a third party guide was released, and then a few months later, SE released one with interviews, etc. They always do that, so you're better off waiting for the SE- super dooper better than all the rest buy our shit-version of the guide.

No evolution charts. Once again, just very basic information, a map of the place, and some scattered details here and there. As far as I can tell, nothing very useful.

Sorry, but unless your post contains at least:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

|                                        ---    This much    ---                                        |

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

... meaningful content, you really shouldn't be replying to every other post in every thread. That's the very definition of spamming around (illustrated, for your obvious benefit). If people want to complain, they have a bloody damn good right to, because this forum is for the entire community, and you're just a small part of that. It's probably time you started acting like it to and show some courtesy by not taking away from the actual discussion by filling every thread with useless noise.

All it takes is a couple more members who do that, and then everyone else has to start going through 10 pages of discussion to read a handful of useful posts.

10 pages of discussion to read a handful of useful posts.

Which is my nightmare. I invariably go through everything to pick out the important bits, especially in the analysis forum, and nothing beats going through a thread like "Why Crono?" or "did crono die when porre attacked" and finding absolutely nothing useful in 20 pages.

Yes.  That was Z's polite way of saying that he agrees with Ramsus.  The fact that both Ramsus and Zeality - the founding fathers of the Compendium, and the two of the 'very importants' around here - have commented on this matter should serve as a huge warning to you.  Please head their words, and only post if you having something meaningful to add.  We have enough noise in these forums as is, and it's pretty much doubled since you've got here.

We're not trying to be jerks or anything, we're just saying, "only post when you have something meaningful to say."
Title: Re: Chrono Trigger Perfect Bible - New CTDS Guidebook

Actually, General Discussion exists for the sole purpose of random or (as far as the site goes) meaningless discussion. Chrono Gameplay/Casual Discussion right above that forum exists for more or less the same reason, but for game-related discussion.

Those two forums were created to keep this kind of useless one-linerism out of the analysis forums and somewhere where it wouldn't do any harm. Since the CT DS forum was created to enliven discussion about the game in the same vein as the Analysis forums and Kajar Labs, I'd say that casual conversation outside of threads created for that obvious purpose (i.e. "Just Got My Copy") still belong in the casual discussion forums.

If someone can't hold themselves to that standard, then we can always limit them to only being able to post in the Site Discussion forums, but we usually wouldn't ban anyone for it.

Does anyone else have perhaps any specific questions they'd like to ask about the content of the guide? I apologize if previous answers were general, but so were the questions, so I'd rather not have to post large chunks of information because people just wanted to know the broad strokes of the guide.^_^;; I apologize for the laziness, but college work here in Kyoto can do that to a person.

I have seen a couple new CTDS Perfect Bibles on eBay and from sellers I have already done business with in Japan.

I will be looking into this. My goal is to purchase this and analyze the text and hopefully discover something fruitful. I will keep you appraised.

EDIT: Aware of RyougaSaotome post, however, as a die-hard Chrono fan, I will still acquire this.

How about anything information you think would be worth mention. Such as whatever the guide mentions about the new content if that isn't to much trouble.

Yep this seems to be the book to get for actual official information on the new content in CTDS. I'm looking forward to any new information that comes from this book. So I hope there are some people around who can translate and are willing to. Since this could have some nice information pertaining to the Chrono games.

A new page on the encyclopedia centralizing all the new information provided will be enough. Since it'll have to be translated, it may be a subsection of the Supporting Material Translation article.

We could scan it and and archive it as a .cbr and use CDisplay to view it after it's translated. To get a more authentic feel for it. I don't think it would be immoral, because it's not going to be released in our region. I would be willing to do the scans when I get a copy. That is if it would be something that the compendium wants.

So there are 2 different CT DS guide books...

Ultimania's release and this "Perfect Bible". The better of the 2 is Ultimania by far, but those "tid-bits" the Compendium seeks is within Ultimania, correct? Would there be any point in acquiring the "Perfect Bible" then since Ultimania seems like it will eclipse the "Perfect Bible" in overall info, features, and art?
Title: Re: Chrono Trigger Perfect Bible - New CTDS Guidebook

I guess not, if Ultimania is better, unless there are things in Perfect Bible that aren't in Ultimania.

I would assume both would be necessary if only for completions sake. Ultimania may be better, but their are probably pieces of information that may not be duplicated between the two.

Barring any surprises, I imagine no. The people here have said that the Perfect Bible barely scratches the surface of the new content.
