Uh, just in case someone stumbles in, I merged the male & female topics so that means people who post in this can be talking about either.
~V_Translanka
Just wanted to hear your thoughts on this, in fact any Square game at all. My personal fav would be Tifa, you would think she was created by Joss Whedon himself. Plus as the topic says shes hot.
-
My vote has to go for Tifa as well, because she's the most psychologically complex heroine the Final Fantasy series has ever had IMO -- extremely well-written. Though I haven't played 12 yet, and was *anyone* psychologically complex in 11?
Runner up's Aeris, because she sacrificed herself for the world, and that's pretty hawt. Uh, that and...

She's just downright stylish in Advent Children. Gotta love the jacket. That's right, I was trying to point out the jacket! Get your minds outta the gutter...

huh oh sorry I got distracted by those lustrous brunette curls.
EDIT: I am hoping this will end up being as successful "On Theism" or for you young members the "Oh no. Oh God no." threads, there is the potential.
-
Selphie, Tifa, Ashe, Rinoa, Yuna, Rikku (FFX version for both of them) etc. (descending in hottness). Unfortunately, none of them are real.
-
Bleh, no Tifa. Complex? Not that I ever noticed. Anyway, I'll have to go for Celes. Her strength was always appealing in some way, a true heroine. She seemed less flashy than a lot of the rest, but had a certain inner fire that outmatched even the likes of Tifa.

The hottest FF girl, eh?

Since Kebrel has invited us to get into extreme and possibly metaphysical argumentation by comparing this thread to the religion thread, I shall defend Tifa to the last.
Tifa stood by her man, and not in the same way Hillary did. Cloud was a freakin' nutcase; I think a lot of people would have dropped him like a hot rock, but Tifa supported him (hell, even pushed his wheelchair) until he was able to get his mind back in some semblance of order. That kind of dedication is lacking in many real-world relationships, and her example is something both men and women can look up to.
The reason why I describe Tifa as psychologically complex stems partly from her choice to lead Cloud on during the Nibelheim retelling in Kalm, rather than blurting out that he's a total schizoid who's imagining himself doing things he never accomplished. Tifa understood his delicate mental-emotional condition, and realized she might send him off the brink if she revealed what really happened -- though her choice came at the cost of truth, which is, itself, a heavy price to pay for protecting someone. Or is it?
Burning Zeppelin says none of these women are real. But does this depend on how one defines reality? Gravitons may be very real, yet we can't see them -- only their effects on the universe. Final Fantasy characters have affected people's lives -- inspiring them to write fanfiction, or draw awesome artwork like the ones d3viant has posted. In this way, could we say that videogame characters are more real than people who live in the Amazon forest, and lead whole lives full of free choice that nevertheless have no impact on the course of our lives? Note that I consider this a horrible, horrible thought for a number of humanistic reasons -- just playing Devil's advocate in an effort to spark some philosophical discussion. If this thread were all about who's got the most desirable body, it wouldn't be worthy of the Compendium forums.
Now for some of my fave depictions of Tifa:

(http://img242.imageshack.us/img242/451/tifakingdomheartsoq2.th.jpg) (http://img242.imageshack.us/my.php?image=tifakingdomheartsoq2.jpg)
...and some of my fave depictions of Aeris:

Now I know most people who post at videogame forums are male, but men should not have to worry about appearing "gay" if they appreciate the aesthetic and other qualities of male characters -- and hence I would invite women to comment in Kebrel's thread for the same reason. And to boot, there's no problem with homosexuality in the first place; homophobia is a sexist relic of our ancestral past, and must be eschewed along with our other social imperfections. Or should it? Discuss.
In any case, I would have to say that Auron of FFX is the male FF character I admire most when I take all things into consideration. He's stylish all around, and his will is so strong that he has clung to life even after death. Nothing gets this guy down.

Cid hands down, he is by far the most relistic man in any of them I have ever seen. He doesn't seek world reform, to know who he is, or uncover some secret plot. He wants to see the stars. Like @#!$ is anyone going to stop him.

Excellent characterization of Cid -- I never viewed him that way before, but it's so true.
-
I hate to join the VII bandwagon (darn game), but I want to make my vote here: Yuffie. Yes, I am completely serious. Not Advent Children Yuffie, but the original version. The just fuglied her for Advent Children (not that I've watched that crap, only seen screenshots), so that stinks.
I suppose I'll go hide under a rock now, before I get killed by an angry mob.
[Edit for FaustWolf's post below]: I didn't say I "admired" her. I said she was hawt. :P
-
Admiration of Yuffie is justifiable. Wasn't she stealing all that materia for family honor...or something?

There was an old thread the Burning Z had made, problem was it became a hentai thread.

Whew, I was hoping Sephiroth wouldn't go unrepresented. I had a feeling his beautiful silvery hair would show up somewhere along the line.

Selphie, Tifa, Ashe, Rinoa, Yuna, Rikku (FFX version for both of them) etc. (descending in hottness).
Wait, this the wrong thread?

+1 for it happening again.
Burning Zeppelin says none of these women are real. But does this depend on how one defines reality?
They may be real in the sense that they exist in our mind, and in our television sets, and that they can have an affect on us, but what you should have italicized is not real, but women. Women are characterized by their reproductive organs, or chromosomes, or maybe a gender gene that scientists are looking for. As far as I can see, none of these digital representations of women have those, and therefore, to put it bluntly, are not fuckable.
Lulu.
If you like gothic MILFs.
Oh, CUPN00DLES posted this! Now it all makes sense!
-
Waitaminute...Lulu's a mom? Or does the "M" stand for "Mage" now?
*Awaits a flood of Vivi hentai...*
-
Lulu.
If you like gothic MILFs.
Technically, she only became a MILF in X-2. Both ways, she wins.
-
Wait, this the wrong thread?
Yeah, this thread is definetely wrong. Just kidding!
-
Oh man, I'm never gonna live this one down, am I?

In honor of Ol' Sephy Head, I merged the male & female topics.
:P
-
Head going to explode, thread has no sense when read top to bottom.
And yes Vivi is hot. :D
-
I think it was a good move on V's part. A gender-neutral "who's hottest" thread -- now THAT's hawt.
-
Oh, I didn't know it was going to merge the posts by date...I thought it would stick one thread onto the end of the other thread...weird...sorry for any confusion I may have created! >_<
Oh, and I'll give some love (so as not to be completely off-topic, yar?) to Rydia...

P.S. I still hate these kinds of threads! HA!
-
Ah, I forgot Beatrix!
-
I think it was a good move on V's part. A gender-neutral "who's hottest" thread -- now THAT's hawt.
Merging these two topics messed the whole idea up. Although the only reason the guy thread appeared was because Faustwolf didn't want the board to appear sexist...anyways
Lulu
and
Dante, I guess (if only because he is bad ass with his sword/gun combo, tho he looks/acts like a douche bag)
-
For the record, I didn't think the content of Kebrel's thread was sexist, since it was going in a direction that tended to examine the psychosocial aspects of hawtness...er, something. I made the guy thread for two reasons:
1.) To make up for my posting of that Advent Children Aeris pic, which was the most sexist thing anyone's actually posted here. I really do like her jacket though; I was serious about that. But the fact that Aeris' perfectly angelic body goes along with that jacket is, in all probability, why I decided to post it in a hotness thread. Lord J said something in the religion thread about every man still being sexist to some degree, and my immediate inclination to post that pic forces me to admit the truth of that statement in my case -- to be a male feminist, perhaps, is to be a recovering sexist.
2.) And whenever I looked at the Xenosaga message boards on GameFAQs, I was a bit creeped out by the "Xenosaga Boys Sanctuary" thread, and its various sequels. It got me wondering whether people are actually turned off from message boards when they see members of their own gender being objectified. And hence, I wondered whether this turnoff could be "turned off" by the presence of threads examining characters of both genders.
And I think we should give ourselves a pat on the back as a community, because with my own admittedly paltry exception, we haven't really objectified either gender in the threads that compose this new conglomeration. We discussed Tifa's psychological complexity, Cid's dream to see the stars, Celes' inner strength...uh, whether Lulu is a MILF...the possibility of Vivi hentai...oh, dear lord! *breaks down and weeps for the human race*
-
I thought MILF was Mage In Leather Fittings?
-
That makes sense! Humanity's decency salvaged by placidchap!

You're right. That's why he was my favorite FFVII character. He's so @#!% awesome.
All-time greatest line in history:

-
Merging these two topics messed the whole idea up.
The whole idea of listing who someone thinks is the hottest girl in the FF series is messed up because now people can list who they think is the hottest guy in the same thread?? It just seems more practical if nothing else now...idk what you're talking about...
<~*POST 4444*~>
What? 4's my lucky number!
-
What if, instead of a who's the hottest FF character, we create a what FF character had the most impact on you thread? That would allow people that want to talk about the more philosophical nature of the characters the ability to do so while also allowing people who just want to post their favorite character or who they think is the hottest the ability to do so as well, since often times these are what end up happening anyway. It would also be gender neutral.
However, the potential for the topic to become hard to follow is also possible, since seperate "conversations" within the thread could end up occuring depending on what level of dpeth you want to participate in.
Would there be enough interest in creating a thread like this, or are we better of staying with a who's the hottest FF character thread, since what I am thinking about has already sort of happened? I was just thinking of a less misleading thread topic.
-
There is... kinda, but it is a little more complex and it allows for characters outside the FF universe; here (http://www.chronocompendium.com/Forums/index.php/topic,5350.0.html).
-
No I think hot is the proper term to use. This thread is about which character your attracted to the most, but here is not just physical but psychological. I my example of Cid he is the cumulation of desires, dreamer, and explores will. There is also Tifa putting the one she cares about before herself, even when she know he's wrong. She cares and she wants to guide him without hurting him. Thats is what I find "hot" not little ol' Rikku dancing in a skimpy two piece.
-
Ah, I see. Thanks BROJ for the link to the other thread and Kebrel for clearing up the terminology. I can definitely relate to how you feel about Rikku.
-
Yeah, if you're going to do something as boring as that (or this, for instance)...why bother limiting it to the FF universes? But really, the topic title you're looking for is "Favorite FF (/or w/e) Character (or w/e depending on what kind of topic you want) AND WHY?"...Make people put some thought into their posts. That's the kind of thread I'd really put some of my newly found modding to use, HA!
The main reason I don't like these types of threads isn't the boring topics though, but really the fact that people normally see the topic, post in it once and then just forget about it altogether, without ever reading anyone else's posts...because how much does anyone care who random_forum_poster409 thinks about w/e character or w/e? Much less coming back to check to see if someone commented on their list or post or w/e? Then it basically just comes down to n00bs coming in and posting to repeat the cycle...>_>
Like how all my posts in this topic are just about the topic type? :P
-
You are the voice of the people.
-
'Who's the hottest FF?' was the greatest thread of all and now you ruined it! Now we will never know who the hottest FF is!
-
Hmmm, hottest FF Character....
White Mage from the original FF on NES - Gotta love Cure.
-
Although Cid Highwind smells like a bar ashtray at 3:00 AM, I vote Cid Highwind for the Awesomeness award.
As for female...
Circa Final Fantasy VII it was hands down Aerith (aka Aeris), but after Advent Children Tifa quickly rose in status. Now I don't know who's more perfect...
So I'll pick Marzipan.
-
Personally, I think Bahamut need's some lovin'.
