Title: Nintendo Power Poll (/VOTE FOR CHRONO QUICKLY!!!)
Post by: ZealKnight on April 06, 2008, 10:57:00 am
I found this on STARMAN.NET

Quote
In the latest issue of Nintendo Power, a new poll urges readers to email a list of their top 5 choices of Nintendo Classics that they would like to see on the Wii's Virtual Console. With our choices limited to only 5, I can think of 1 right off the bat.

Quickly it's important to the future of the Virtual Console!!!!!! Not to mention if he it is on the top five it will probably get a remake!!!!! Who knows the might even start working on Chrono Break again!!!!

OK voted! They are really in nor particular order, except CT being number 1.

1. Chrono Trigger
2. Seiken Densetsu 3 (Secret of Mana 2)
3. Pilot Wings 64
4. Super Mario RPG
5. Final Fantasy VI (Final Fantasy III US)

Hope this isn't a hoax lol. As you can see I want some good old fashion SNES RPGs on there.
Pilot Wings 64 is mostly for my dad who freaking loved that game. Maybe I should just go buy it for 5 bucks at Gamestop or something.

Why would it getting released on VC get it a remake? If anything, it would only DETRACT from a remake because even more people would've already played it...Besides, I dun think SE will let it through yet (I think they're gonna do a remake before they let it on VC).

Voted for the hell of it.

1. Chrono Trigger
2. EarthBound
3. Super Mario RPG
4. The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
5. Star Fox 2 (I'm aware how much of a stretch this is)

It shows a want for the game first. Second, a lot of people don't have a Wii. I would hope they remake it for the 360 because of the fact that most Americans(which preferred Chrono Trigger more anyways) own one, or second the PS3 because of the awesome graphics.

Its money, SE get money for it being on the VC, plus the see the "demand" there looking for. If the demand really is that high it won't interfere with actual sales of games.  with emulators we don't need a remake but a lot of people would rather have the game, same with the VC, and not every one has a Wii. ZeaLiTy good with the economical side to it have him tell, ja.

There's dreams and then there's just plain delusions. Remakes for current gen consoles just aren't cost effective...and 360? C'mon...not gonna come close to happening. It shows interest for the SERIES, but not a remake. If you've already just played the original version, the likelihood of you going out to buy a remake isn't going to be that high, even if it is for an awesome game like CT.

It seems like it'd be more money for Ninny than it'd be for SE...SE could make more by handing the remake project over to a secondary company like Matrix Software to make a remake, release that and then, if they want they can release the ol' 16-Bit 2D "classic" version on VC after they see the awesome amount of sales they'd get from the venture.

From the business perspective, VC just helps to support Ninny a lot more than SE...

A bold statement.  Do you really think most Americans own a 360?

If you ask me, the original CT: Resurrection people need to get back together, assume new identities and continue working that amazing project and then just release it at the end of the production.  Maybe change the name of the remake and alter the graphics a bit so it isn't truly "CT: Resurrection".  Now that there is what one calls a delusion...

Even if it doesn't get a remake maybe they might start chrono break once more. Trust me many people would buy it even if its on the VC. No remake is really market friendly unless the game is not playable on one of the systems as of now. look at how many FFIV FFI and FFII remakes there are.

well we all know that a new game requires a chrono reunion (all the major players gotta reunite), and that's a hard task to accomplish.  without a doubt that's been the biggest problem creating another chrono game.

It's like how do I put it, having the Super Friends without Superman and Batman etc...
Once you've tasted what they can come up with, you want nothing less.

Title: Re: VOTE FOR CHRONO QUICKLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Post by: Boo the Gentleman Caller on April 07, 2008, 03:42:57 pm
nope; glennleo was right the first time at bat.

i think the main problem creating a new chrono game has been the reunification of the "dream team".  this team was the best of the best, and that's why chrono trigger is so friggin' amazing.

the team consisted of hironobu sakaguchi and kazuhiko aoki (of final fantasy fame), yuuji horii (from dragon quest fame), and masato kato.  plus you had the character artist (and a unique one, at that), akira toriyama.  and you had some of the best vg composers known to man: nobuo uematsu and yasunori mitsuda.

all of them were vital components of the creation of chrono trigger, and it was so hard for them to gather even PART of that team to work on chrono cross.  thus, it's not hard to see why another chrono sequel hasn't happened yet: everyone's schedule's haven't come to terms yet.

besides, with so many names involved, there are probably some major legal issues involved, and we all know that legal issues can be devastating...

so i think that that's 90% of the problem.

i mean, they already at least have some IDEA'S where to take the series (hironobu sakaguchi said in an interview that the team of chrono cross - especially masato kato - wanted to create a new chrono game, and that script and story ideas were currently being thrown around).

now all we can do is hope and pray...

Once you've tasted what they can come up with, you want nothing less.

There is always more than one dream.

But that is a really bad analogy. I wouldn't want the Super Friends with or without Batman and Superman. :)

Saying that the Dream Team has to get together again to make a new Chrono game is like saying that you need Tim Burton, Michael Keaton, and Jack Nicolson to make a good Batman movie, or that you need Jim Shooter, Bob Budiansky, Shōhei Kohara, and Floro Dery to make a good Transformers movie.

As long as the team is just as talented (or more so), a new team could produce a game as good as or better than Chrono Trigger.
Title: Re: VOTE FOR CHRONO QUICKLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Post by: Boo the Gentleman Caller on April 07, 2008, 04:23:05 pm
thought, as much as i agree with you, the main guru's behind chrono trigger disagree...

"...it's very difficult to be able to reunite the original team, to be able to make a sequel to the Chrono series...because if we don't try to reunite these people but take other people instead, we will find ourselves at that point with a game which will feel different, since there would be different persons in charge, and we would possibly lose the Chrono spirit.”

— Hiromichi Tanaka

plus you have to remember what composer yasunori mitsuda remarked in an interview in january.  he said, "there are a lot of politics involved" in creating a new game, and he stressed that Masato Kato should participate in development should a new entry in the series materialize
Title: Re: VOTE FOR CHRONO QUICKLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Post by: ZeaLitY on April 07, 2008, 04:26:23 pm
Its important to remember that Tanaka is talking about people like Masato Kato, Yasuyuki Honne, and Yasunori Mitsuda, among the other people who worked on Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross. The Trigger Dream Team isn't in the picture.
Title: Re: VOTE FOR CHRONO QUICKLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Post by: Boo the Gentleman Caller on April 07, 2008, 04:28:15 pm
okay, true, good point.

POINT BEING:  there are politics involved and the major players involved are sort of spread out (monolith, final fantasy XI, etc.)
Title: Re: VOTE FOR CHRONO QUICKLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Post by: Thought on April 07, 2008, 04:56:46 pm
All the more reason to scrap them entirely (thus why I should never go into politics).

The copyrights and trademarks for CT, RD, and CC are all owned by Square, unless I am mistaken. Thus the only political concerns they'd need to take is to not horribly offend Masato, Mitsuda, etc. (Square would, after all, still like them to make games in the future).

As long as the new team is properly dedicated, I am fairly confident that such a team could create a compelling addition to the series (much in the same way that Batman Begins, Transformers Beast Wars, Enterprise, and other such instances were able to stay true to the underlying themes of their respective series despite being developed by other individuals).

EDIT: I guess my point is essentially; for every Herodotus, there is a Thucydides. For every Thomas Hobbes, there is a John Locke. Every Thomas Jefferson, an Andrew Jackson. And so on, and so forth. Great things need not end with those who started them.

Batman needs NO ONE!!! I think he just gets lonely or realizes that his psyche needs companionship or else he really will go insane...so he surrounds himself w/people...even if said people are the annoying alien. :P

Plus, it wasn't really the whole Dream Team after Trigger, really...just the important bits...

It's not Chrono w/o Kato & Mitsuda, I think we can all agree on that much at least.
Title: Re: VOTE FOR CHRONO QUICKLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Which (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superman) annoying (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawkman#Silver_Age_.28Katar_Hol.29) alien (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wonder_Twins) is (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supergirl) this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gleek_%28Super_Friends%29)?

But I'd say it could well be Chrono without Kato (Mitsuda would be a bit more of a stretch, but I'd argue it could still be done).

The one Batman sometimes refers to as The Alien, of course (much like Lex).

How is the music more important than the PLOT???

Post by: Glennleo on April 07, 2008, 06:30:19 pm
Ok, ok. My analogy sucked balls I get it lol.

I do agree that it is possible to create a great Chrono game without the Dream Team, but at least I know we'd get a great game from them.  Anyone else and it would be up in the air per-se.

Plus there would constant comparisons of the Old vs. the New so-called Dream Teams of respective games. But I guess they were never the Dream Team until the completed the game, so who is to say a new even better Dream Team couldn't exist.

Man all this Dream Team talk wants me to post a pic of the once awesome Olympic basketball team we had.
OK I will. (Somebody needs to shop this with Chrono Trigger and Cross team members )

How is the music more important than the PLOT???

Could it have been the Epic Battle Against Magus without Magus' theme? And Lavos, what would he have been without his scream and the apocalypse music? Just a giant procupine. Music is subtle, but it sets the mood in ways that plot alone couldn't do otherwise.

And besides, a very important part of a good plot are compelling characters. Kato allowed things like Korcha, Funguy, and Macha into Chrono Cross. Macha! He may be good, but he isn't infallable.

Something about this statement seems against the law.

I hope not, I'd hate for the Thought Police to be coming around ;)

sorry, that was a really bad pun.
Title: Re: VOTE FOR CHRONO QUICKLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Post by: V_Translanka on April 08, 2008, 05:03:39 pm
Yeah, but by that logic there wouldn't have even BEEN an "epic battle against Magus" w/o the plot for a theme to be made for in the first place! The theme adds to the plot, not the other way around because you don't really make a theme for nothing and then decide to make a plot around it. Also...Lavos's scream is a sound effect, not part of the song (besides, it's the inner forms that have the really awesome themes).

No manner of crappy characters in Cross took away from the fact that the story was GOOD! Nobody said he was infallable...but I say that stuff is more to blame on other people on the project...I'm also gonna blame not having Toriyama back on just cause I can. :P
Title: Re: VOTE FOR CHRONO QUICKLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Post by: Anacalius on April 08, 2008, 08:26:43 pm
Yeah, no doubt the music adds a lot to it, and is definitely vital, but it is in no way more important than the plot itself. I, for one, hate a few of the tracks in CT, but the plot and other aspects more than make up for it.

No manner of crappy characters in Cross took away from the fact that the story was GOOD! Nobody said he was infallable...but I say that stuff is more to blame on other people on the project...I'm also gonna blame not having Toriyama back on just cause I can. :P

STFU MV5IC 4 TEH WINZ!!!!11!!11oneonesix

Plot can be wrighten by many people, I do agree the Kato has shone to be better then most. But Mitsuda! he has grasped is skill and done more with it then many people ever do. Music doesn't just add to a scene it creates it. V just listen to this (http://www.vgmusic.com/music/console/nintendo/snes/ctmagus.mid), it tell you something, conflict has an unknowen aura, but you can feel Crono still working at it.

Now listen to this and tell me what story does it tell you. (http://media.putfile.com/Kebrel-Sidekick)

Haha, I definitely see somebody sneaking around at least in the start of it. Or the group is thinking about something, deciding on something.

The tone changes mid song to a more happy go lightly tone. More for a weird character or something I dunno.

You make this, or just post it from something else?
Title: Re: VOTE FOR CHRONO QUICKLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Post by: V_Translanka on April 08, 2008, 11:20:54 pm
That's the same logic though, Kebrel...sure, anyone can write the plot...but anyone can write music too, and like you said, that doesn't make it GOOD music (I'm running 56k, so I'm not going to just randomly load songs, sorry...I prefer the remixes done by CotMM of Magus' Theme tho ;)). Kato is the main guy behind the plot of the series...I don't see how changing him could be good for the project...Same w/Mitsuda, but to a lesser extent because we don't even know what atmosphere the music director/composer would NEED to create for the next installment...so you can't say whether or not someone else would be good or bad for it. I'd even say Toriyama's more important to the atmosphere than Mitsuda even...the freakish characters of Cross did not come from the same world as the characters of Trigger if you ask me.

Ahh you didn't make it.

But it goes to prove the point that music can create a scene out of nothing. I never heard or saw that scene, and I depicted somewhat accurately what type of scene the music went to. I pwn what can I say.

I didn't know where I should have posted the merge, but there ya go! Maybe it should have been merged into the General section since it's done now and it's basically a results thread? Damn! I'll move it all there then, I guess...I knew this would be difficult for me to do...

EDIT: Anyways...the list looks to me, besides CT, like people just voted for the biggest series Ninny had...I mean...Majora's Mask? Really? Maybe they've already got most of the good stuff on the VC already, I guess?

I'd just like to say that while I knew it wouldn't happen, the lack of Fire Emblem is disgusting. Seisen no Keifu and Thracia 776 are far better than any game on that list, but oh well. It seems people can never get enough of their precious Zeruda (#sda joke), but Earthbound? I guess I'll have to try that game out sometime and see if it's worth a crap (it has Ness, so I doubt it).

End useless rant. :P

Meh, a vote done by the public - What did you expect?  :?

Majora's Mask was a good game, but the fact remains - It doesn't belong on that list (Especially since OoT was so much better, anyway).

Earthbound got #1 though?
I'm actually, genuinely surprised. It's been far too many years since I have played it to pass judgment on what I feel about that, but I will say that SMRPG doesn't deserve to be ahead of CT.

True on OoT vs Majora's.

Never played Earthbound...but I'd have to say that SMRPG is one of the best Mario games out there.  CT, SMRPG and FF6 are my 3 favourite SNES games, so SMRPG being ahead of CT doesn't bother me.

Good choice of fav SNES games. FFVI owns all, though.  :)
SMRPG was epic, but I don't think it's quality is quite up to par with CT - There's so much more depth and what not to CT than SMRPG. So, no, it doesn't really "Bother" me, but I think CT deserves the spot more than SMRPG.
Earthbound is actually pretty good, if I recall, but again, it's been FAR too long to say for sure. Check it out here -

If I recall, the game seemed terrible at first, but was actually good after playing a while.

I'd just like to say that while I knew it wouldn't happen, the lack of Fire Emblem is disgusting.

Too true...the series is great, but the reason it's not on the list, ironically enough, is because of it's limited exposure...>_> And yet the most popular, well known Ninny series, Zelda, Mario & Mother...though Earthbound being so high IS kind of surprising...I think interest in the game's been pretty good...especially since fans routinely get the shaft, like w/Mother 3 (which looks great!...too bad it didn't get a NA release)...

I say do a lot of the unreleased Super Famicom games...but all of which I'd much rather see a cool DS remake of...Live-a-Live, Bahamut Lagoon, Der Langrisser...Star Ocean & Tales of Phantasia too, now that I think of it...I think ToP got a GBA port, though, didn't it? Anyways...it could still use a nice DS remake...

Bahamut Lagoon is a great game, even though I haven't played much of it yet.

It's Fire Emblemesque , wouldn't you say?

The reason it's not on the list is that they would likely be losing money by translating and releasing them for only $6 or so a shot. With the remake of Ankoku (1) coming out for the DS eventually, they would be amazingly stupid to hurt their profits on any potential $30/35 release of the unreleased (outside Japan) games.

Sure, they released two of them in Japan already (Monshou/Seisen), but I don't think it's a huge problem over there. Heck, it could be a good thing (revive any lost interest in a re-release).

I'm hoping the DS game does extremely well, so that they consider remaking/porting the rest. The problem is, Nintendo of America will destroy the difficulty on something like Thracia (which is completely exaggerated). Wimps still complain about it nowadays, so just imagine the average Joe playing it: "OH NO! Leaf isn't as powerful as Hector or that guy who had blue hair like Marth! Why can't I solo everything with him?! This game sucks/is too hard!"

As you can tell, I have issues.

/me sticks to his imported cartridges, because memorization > language barrier.

...Der Langrisser...

Take my advice: get a copy of Langrisser: Dramatic Edition (Saturn). You will NOT be disappointed, since it's easily the best game in the series. For those who may not know, Dramatic includes the PC Engine (I think) version of Langrisser I and a major touch up to Der Langrisser (fast movement, lots of voice acting, some animated FMVs, new portraits/scenarios/branches, and mostly better music (which is saying something)).

Somewhat. Though to compare the two is like saying (in my opinion of course): "My <crappy vehicle> is similar to your <good vehicle>, right?" Sure, they both have engines and tires and what-not, but... (I need to lay off the mushrooms.)

That said, Bahamut Lagoon has great music and the gameplay is tolerable.

Yeah, but I don't think people took into account business models when the Ninny fans voted in that poll...

Anyways, yeah, I've only played that one game of the Langrisser series...I wouldn't mind playing the others at some point...but a Saturn game...really...? No, I couldn't do it to myself...maybe if they port or remake it...>_>

Fire Emblem's release date: 4/20/90 (Japan, of course).
Shining Force 1's release dates: 3/19/92 (US), 3/20/92 (Japan), 7/05/93 (Europe).

So, not really.

You have something against the Saturn? :(

I was mostly pointing out that it's easy to compare SRPGs' gameplay...especially the oldschool ones...but anyways, I saw the Shining Force series as being a more simplistic version of Fire Emblem's gameplay, so that might be why I also thought it was the earlier game...*shrugs*

Yeah, the Saturn was Sega's N64 to me (in that I was never really interested in that many games on either console)...along w/the fact that it was their last, desperate try at the console wars due to their blunderous Dreamcast debacle...but I haven't actually played it, so maybe I'm completely wrong about the system...but I certainly wouldn't try to emulate it...how are Saturn emus anyways? I don't think I've ever seen one...w/e...

Sorry, I was a bit hostile with that post.

Well, I only own 9 games for the Saturn (4 of those being Langrisser games), but I'm pleased with the purchase of the console. I can't vouch for emulation (I'd say buy the console instead), but I believe that it's advanced enough to run real games. I think SSE (SSF?) is the one to go with, if you feel like trying it out.

This isn't over yet? And how much sway does Nintendo Power have over Square-Enix? And they already have CT on the VC unofficially now, so...?

So I think it worked everyone! I can't really think of any other thing that has been done to show a demand for the game. Now our job is to buy the DS remake!
