* Mechanical Doll
By combining various parts you could probably control the style and settings of her attacks. It’s a shame she was turned down.
* Baker’s Daughter
Looks like a character that attacks with the bread she holds. The top picture looks like a child, while the one on the left is more developed.
* Grappler
Appears to be a Chinese monk that uses his hands. Thinking about the salesclerk on page 118, maybe they originally planned a Chinese style town.
* Ninja
Like the RPG’s of yesterday, there was always a ninja. This also could have been a variation of Grobyc.

Voted for Mechanical Doll (innovative!), Ninja (gotta have a ninja), and Nu (provided it's the Nu off of Nuumamonjaa).
As it is I can't fathom who thought this many characters in this linear an RPG was a good idea.
Ketchop sounds like an accomplice of Solt and Peppor. ANOTHER DAMNED DRAGOON! I'M GLAD THEY WERE SLAUGHTERED IN RD!

Journey to the West character and Baker's daughter.
Were we the only two people to ever watch that miniseries, Zeality? Because I remember watching it for my fourteenth birthday...it was pretty awesome.

A "Journey to the West" miniseries? That's just what Kato / Yuuki calls that character. I know what JttW is, but I never saw anything on TV.
I've heard that mostly all Chinese cartoons are JttW ripoffs.

Mechanical Doll, for several reasons.
Ninja. Always in need of some extra fast character.
Grappler, only if he shows and uses real martial arts and techniques worth of seeing.

While I kind of like the IDEA of Mechanical Doll, her character art just looks too much like Hsien-Ko/Lei-Lei from the Darkstalkers series.

Baker's Daughter just sounds stupid. She kind of looks like the daughter of Funguy, doesn't she? Well...sorta...*shrugs*

Grappler looks kind of cool, but mostly just sort of an average looking guy and I bet his back story would have been just that as well.
Ninja is awesome. I definitely vote Ninja. I mean, it's basically the last RPG cliché that the Chrono series hasn't touched, right? Plus, there'd HAVE to be a good explanation and story behind a ninja...
It's kind of hard to make out the Journey To the West character...he's the one with the question-mark box, right? It sounds kind of cool, but I don't like any of the designs I can see.
One cool character in the unused characters pic I thought is on the opposite page...Who's that guy with the spiky hair and the harpoon supposed to be? Whoever he was turned into sucked in comparison.
Quadffid...I dunno...Sprigg couldn't turn into one of them and I don't think I care very much that she couldn't...They're kind of ugly little bastards...
Nu! That'd be pretty sweet actually...Even though it'd just end up looking like a Beach Bum...But w/e...It'd be neat to see it's attacks from Trigger. Maybe one of it's Techs could be PINK TRANSFORM! And then it'd use a random Spekkio attack...*dreams*
Ketchop...plz...I barely liked that he was in the game at all, much less as a playable! One more reason to dislike Pierre? lol
So, in all honesty, I think I can only vote for two: Ninja & Nu. DOUBLE N'S!!!

Yeah, Hsien-Ko/Lei-Lei looks like a dude...though it might be just a chubby girl and the blue make-up making it hard to tell *shrugs*...I like the girl dressed as B.B. Hood/Bulleta though...^_^
Oh, and ZeaLitY, was your prediction for Nu to be in the lead?!? HUH!?? WAS IT!?!? lol

Yeah. I can't imagine why people like the mechanical doll. It's just some creepy cyborg lady, and Grobyc already filled those shoes.

I voted Mechanical Doll (because it looks unique and pretty interesting), JttW Character (Since that story interests me), and Nu (because it's a Nu, it doesn't need anymore reason).

Ninja - A ninja in Chrono Cross would have been a complete and total wtf. I think it deserved to be in there.

Not totally. The dialogue icon in the demo depicts a real, live Nu.

Yeah your right but honestly it would have the same shape, texture, and feel of a beachbum except for the tiny eyes lol.
Anyway I would have perfered if they had added none of these characters and took out some of the existing characters in CC so they could have included Magus's story in the game.

actually it would not look the same because akira's art is more anime and in cross things look more realistic(not realistic, MORE realistic) so i wouldn't like to see a crazy demon looking version of nice chubby guys i use to love.
I voted for Mechanical Doll, Baker's Daughter, Ninja. because the Mechanical doll offered some customization(i think) The baker's daughter because there were a lot of worthless girl characters(macha and mel) and it offers a chance for at least one more good one. and of course the ninja because i like ninjas.

They could of removed 3/4 of the characters and it still would have been a good game....except without Leena...it would have been horrible without Leena....I like Leena. Seriously, some people felt like after thoughts, or seemed pointlessly added to the story as afterthoughts.

did you have to get Starky by the point anyway? I can't recall......
You didn't have to, I don't think...but if you explored Home World's El Nido Triangle & got the Star Fragment & then explored Home World's Sky Dragon Isle, both things which are alluded to beforehand, then you'll fight him & be able to get him in the party...
I think it's a lot more about the character development than the actual number of characters, but the number, of course, had to have made it tougher to include a good enough amount...*shrugs* At least Kid was awesome.

Old topic, but for my money, the choices are fairly obvious. First and foremost... Nu. Because life ends and begins with Nu! That's my belief... at least for now...
Seriously, the Nu was one of the more enigmatic creatures from Chrono Trigger, and with all the lack of real connection to Trigger, Nu would've been a definitive and interesting one.
Journey to the West Character gets my second vote, because the design of the character and enigmatic (there's that word again) connection to the classic is enticing.
And of course, the mechanical doll. Just for the uniqueness of her combat style.
