ChronoTrigger+ Announcements

Since I have little time to work on this project as a "whole"... I am now developing each part in segments. (as it should have been) In doing so, I find that I feel less overwhelmed with stuff (which gives me more motivation to do modding when I have time to mod)
Each segment will be 3 or 4 chapters long -- we'll compact it all into 1 ROM later (for public DEMOs). I know we DEFINATLEY have room for all the dialog Kyronea wishes to add (as well as the new sidequests we are creating), but to be redundant, we'll worry about fitting it in later, as Temporal Flux is improved more and ROM corruption due to importing becomes a way of the past.

Segment "1" contains--

Storyline & Dialouge:
Chapters: "The Millennial Fair" to "Were Home!" **
All of the Kyronea's Dialouge is added.

** Everything beyond this point is still the normal "buggy" CT+ DEMO - But I can't guarentee that something did not become corrupted somewhere else when I overwrote the old location data.
So when you get back to the Millennial Fair and have to take Marle home, just keep an extra savestate handy at this point, ready for the next segment.


~changes:
Must talk to Toma in Truce Pub Middle Ages to get into Guardia Castle.
He will inform you that you need a Writ of Passage to enter (later I'll add an NPC that comes into the Pub after you are done talking to Toma that says this instead - this is just a temp fix for now)

* If you try to enter Castle before talking to Toma, guards will escort you out.

Sentry: This is wartime!{delay 03}
No one is allowed inside the
castle without due permission!{full break}
Sentry: If you're looking for a
place to stay try Truce Village.{delay 03}

FINALLY figured out how to make the "fake Queen" in 'Manoria Shrine Antechamber' attack you if you talk to her. (without conflicting with the leaving the room version)

Method 1:
(if leave room)
"Don't be in such a hurry!
Enjoy yourselves! He he!"

(battle ensues)

Method 2:
(if talk to fake Queen)
Queen: There was no need for you to
attempt to rescue me!{delay 03}
The master, Yakra, is very kind!{delay 03}

(Animation- Frog pulls out his sword)

(then battle ensues)

*Both versions are there and fully working, depending on if you walk out of the room, or try to talk to the "Queen".
*** Later, this will become one of those "choices" that affect the game somewhere else slightly, depending on what you decide to do. I want to add a "bajillion" possible tiny variations of what can happen.


Maps:
Truce Canyon is now 2x bigger, didn't bother adding a shortcut as it's not that much bigger than before in size, just expanded slightly... and totally beautified. (I won't make this area any larger until we can expand to 8 MEGs)


I am about 80% done with this segment. I have some testing to do, to make sure everything goes ok. Then, I'll send a copy to all the CT+ team.

Alright. It's pretty bad of me not to have something for the CT+ Crew to test, so...
I'm going to have a test hack out soon with Ayla's Sidequest and part of Crono's! I'll have the finishing touches within the week.  8)

Wow, that is awesome news. I am really excited. The main reason I joined was to help move the project forward, and I am glad to see it is doing so. Whoops. I meant two weeks for everything, but the new maps. Those might take me slightly longer because I'm going to add the stuff for those last (a week more maybe?) This time doesn't count Ayla's Quest or the Cleft of Dimensions (mainly because that's very complicated) I may have all the new sidequests (I have half a dozen or so planned in totality) saved for 1.2. We'll see.

When enhancing Events and Cutscenes for a release, I usually make two passes through the game.
During each pass through, I'll enhance some scenes or add a few new ones.
The second pass is where I finish stuff that I didn't do the first time. (though some scenes get skipped entirely and left for later versions, depending on the motivation I have at the time)

Once I get the second pass done9which takes less time than the first), I'll do a third (and final) pass which will be incorporating all the new maps and such -- as well as enhancing enemy AI. (those two will take the longest) I'm thinking because there's so much that I want to add in 1.1, that this *may* be an "End of the Year" release (for the public that is) -- hence, me not officially telling anyone when it will come out.

I'm rethinking the whole "by October" thing, for a few reasons: 1. ROM hacks take a while to do, that's granted, so anyone "in the public" that's impatient can wait(they need to learn patience), they don't understand how time consuming this stuff really is (I bet you guys are starting to realize!)

2. There's an insane amount of stuff I'm packing into this version. Like I said in Kajar, it'll make Beta 1.0 look like a joke.

3. I have been working on this hack for nearly 3 years now, so I'm not really rushing to get it out there yet -- and when I rush, bugs get missed and stuff gets overlooked.


However, after the second pass (like I mentioned a few days ago) in probably 2 weeks? I'll make a test version for you guys to try out (and for helping me find bugs and such) As of right now, I've just finished Trann Dome on the first pass. (not bad for two days' work)


Some cutscenes that are on "the list" I've made might be left out. They are the 'more useless' ones--such as Marle escaping from the castle at the beginning or Lucca finishing the setup of the Telepod(as those really aren't that relevant to the plot) we already know Marle escapes from Guardia and Lucca finishes setting up the Telepod; and these scenes were just an idea I was toying with to fill space. I figure that if I'm going to fill space with cutscenes, they're going to be ones that are filled with intrigue and awesomeness. More important scenes to the plot (which aren't on my official list) have been dreamed up and added as I go along...these are "higher quality" scenes such as peering in Crono's past a little bit and stuff like that.

Oh, how braindead I am from working on this all weekend. I'm starting over now (2nd and slightly longer pass), however, I got all the enemies done and new AI done on the first pass...(Enemies and battles are now totally awesome!)
...so now all I gotta do is do the rest of the cutscenes (and Lavos, Moonlight Parade Ending, Extra Ending Scenes, and all the other "lesser" endings) I can't guarentee that I'll have the test version in a week (what happens when Z promises a specific date?  :evil:) well, atleast this is just due to being slightly behind rather than some "life" issue that comes up and ruins EVERYTHING.

Anyways, I hope to have that test vers. done by next Friday, but it may take a few days longer. (also, depending on how much over-time I'm working this week.  :x )

Sounds good. Just take your time :) I work tomorrow and Monday anyway, So I wouldn't be able to start playing too much until Monday night anyway (though knowing me I would just not get much sleep once I get my hands on this, regardless of work).

Working on the Sidequest's now. 80% towards release of 1.08. I'm sure you guys (and all the waiting beta testers are ravenous for some new CT+)  I'm not going to rush though, 'cuz we all know what happens when I do.  :?

Once I get it ready, I'm going to get with Zeality on making a child-board for this project where the Beta Testers can post bugs by category of Chapters. If Zeality can pull it off, the beta testers won't be able to see this board - so we won't be barraged by a torrent of posts.

Anyways, I'll try to keep you informed as much as possible.

Wow! I am just pleased with my own work on the cutscenes, if I do say so myself.
They feel just so damn polished than in beta1.0. Sound effects and party member animations galore!
(yes, that's where most of my time has gone into)

Azure: I *may* have to redo the Zeal Library. Looking at it now, I realize that it's way too big! I'll think long and hard about this before I go and butcher our work.

Anyways, gotta get back to finishing the sidequests and start on the Endings & Moonlight Parade Ending (Good lord, I haven't even touched that yet! Damage control here we go!)

Oops. Kinda been out of the loop for a while, publicly.
Yeah I got a cheap 17" for 10 dollars, that's a major step down from a 22", but functionality comes before glossy appearance. It's getting cold out where I live so it's harder for me to get to the lib. Anyways, I've been working on tying up loose ends and working on even more stuff here and there. I realize that I am farther behind that I actually thought. Just hang in there and know that CT+ is coming soon!

Cool, I know you were getting close before so I hope you are able to get it out soonish :) I had a good thanksgiving, hope yours was good too!

(At one point you had released percentages of completion, was wondering how much closer you would say you are percentage wise :D)

Also, I have the Sealed Pyramid dungeon added from the Japanese Pre-release, though I don't have enemies or a boss added yet. Even though that place will be empty, I'll include it in the test vers. Searing Chasm won't be though because I'm going to redo it.  :x (millionth time!)

Z mentioned this dungeon before, and I believe he said that it was originally designed to be there, and that the Sealed dungeon is cut content that he is reintroducing. It should still be the energy pyramid, but now when you disarm the shield, an elevator with a Zeal symbol on the door will rise up and then take you down into the dungeon. I guess this was all in the CT beta rom people have been messing with? Regardless, I think it sounds awesome, since it was supposed to be a place where Zeal's treasures were sealed away yea? Instead of just a choice of two things...

Bah, technicalities. It'll be re-instated when progress is posted. I've been following this avidly, and I think it'll be an excellent show of the community's hacking capability. The question is whether this or Crimson Echoes will be released first -- given that this is nearly complete, they're running neck and neck.

Don't sweat it too much Azure, this area is also for stalled projects, and CT+ is certainly stalled for now :D I would like to think Z will be back soon, but when it comes right down to it, all we can really do is wait for him. If Z really was at 99% completion, it would seem unlikely that he would not finish that last 1% eventually.

If anyone else asks you for it, don't give it to them.


Some of the bugs on the previous list have been fixed, some have not.
If they come up again, don't worry about them as they are on my todo list.
New ones that may have come up are not, so let me know~!



New Bugs:

Lavos seems to freeze the game. (after Queen Zeal)
It may have something to do with editing/saving all of those times...
Usually, for releases I import all my exports into a fresh ROM, but
this is just a workstation ROM so lots of things may have crept up
in data overwriting...






things to note:

Millennial Fair
The tent by Gato's warps you to my puzzle test room, which is in shambles right now.
There's a warp to one of the Cleft of Dimensions there and you can run around. But don't save in there as there's no way out... The Cleft parts are in this hack because I was working on them, they really shouldn't be there, but you can test it out...



Manoria Cathedral -
First Organ Puzzle randomly chooses 1 of 3 note sets.
Second puzzle does not (and will be coded to later on)

Arris Dome - switch puzzle rooms don't work yet.
If you get stuck, enter the menu and reload. (which resets the copytiles for the platforms)


Beast's Nest
I've taken DK's map and started dungeon-izing it.
The water animations don't work yet.
The Beast battles glitch, so you'll have to open TF and make some of the tiles walkthrough-able (from the start room, straight up to the top)


Zeal Library
Lib. map is there and has books and npcs.
Don't bother reporting bugs here as I'm still finishing it.


Zeal Libray Dungeon.
Uhhhh. don't enter here. You can't get through.
I was making a puzzle area in conjunction with Azure's maze map.
Going here's not a problem yet as you aren't forced to go through here to get to the Throneroom (to get to the O. Palace)

In 1.09/1.1, this area will be forced unto the player.

So out of curiosity, do you mean that we cannot beat the game as is, since Lavos freezes it, or just fighting Lavos after Zeal freezes it. I am just wondering what exactly I am expecting with that, since it would suck not being able to test any of the side quests...

I'm not sure why it freezes. It's happened twice before and I can't remember what I did or what I did to fix it, both times...anyways, there's nothing new yet after the Lavos battle anyways (I haven't done the ending stuff)

This all is being held back, the players won't really know what's not there as 1.1 will still feel like a rock-solid complete hack without all of that. 1.1 is more about 'cut-scenes, battles, enemyAI and some puzzles' rather than new and expanded areas. (with a few exceptions of course)

Zeal Library Dungeon - The Lib. will still be there, but I don't have the motivation to finish the maze/dungeon right now.

Beast's Nest - Same. It'll be really cool when complete.

Searing Chasm (and enemies)

Since that's almost out of the way (been putting it off forever too!) I can go back and hopefully get 1.1 done.

Sound was mixed in after video editing. Yeah, I could have balanced it out more.
In-game it sounds womanly, with the Zeal Sprite.

That looks great, especially the new Zeal location. Fan mappers (in general) often make walkable areas too wide and too empty and make everything look too blocky (even the Lost Sanctum in CTDS has some of these flaws), but it's not the case here so kudos. The sunshine on the windows could use some refining though; I think they looked better in CT.

Thanks, it took me aeons to figure out something that looks like a Square designer done. Azure touched it up a little and then I did some final adjustments. All of the new maps will have that feel. I'm obsessed with perfection. As for the Sunlight.... Oops. I changed Schala's Room L3, but not the Study.
