Title: Chrono Crisis Sprite and Artwork Update
Post by: Chains Of Fate on June 25, 2006, 02:08:15 pm
Progress is still coming along at a good pace, as the game script is about 40% done, and the sprites are being done at a good pace. We also have a new addition to the team, Validus, former artist for CTRP, who's jumped right in and started doing NPC, enemy, and boss artwork.

Xavier: (http://www.aliasworkshop.com/transfer/landreia/XWALKani2.gif)

Matison: (http://www.aliasworkshop.com/transfer/landreia/MATISON_STATIC.gif)

Celia: (http://www.aliasworkshop.com/transfer/landreia/CELIA_STATIC.gif)

Miss Vanessa: (http://img50.imageshack.us/img50/7494/vanessaver30bm.gif)

Lena has completed the bases for the CT cast (And Serge and Kid) :

The artwork and sprites have been done for two NPCs, Queen Amelia and Princess Lecea, Celia's family:

Amelia Guardia

Name Meaning: Amelia (Industrious, Admiring)
Age: 40
Sex: Female
Home: Guardia Castle
Occupation: Queen of Guardia
Overview: Queen Amelia has solely ruled Guardia since as long as anyone can remember. Since she doesn't actually rule the kingdom anymore, she's had a lot of free time to tend to other things. Since becoming Queen, she's built many monuments to honor Guardia's past such as the Guardia Museum and came up with the idea to hold a big concert on the eve of the new millenium. Lately something has been troubling her but she refuses to reveal what's truly on her mind.

Concept Art:

Lecea Guardia

Name Meaning: Of noble birth
Age: 15
Sex: Female
Home: Guardia Castle
Occupation: Princess
Overview: Lecea is Celia's younger sister and second in line to become Queen. She is very jealous of Celia and does what she can to make her miserable. She is also lazy and has no desire to explore the world outside of the castle walls, unlike Celia who longs for adventure.

Concept Art:

And congrats to Dai Akako, who won our fan art competition with the following entry:

That Xavier sprite is a bit of an older version--I've toned down his hair a bit to match everyone else (it was waaaay too bright. XD

There he is. ^^ I'm also currently working on remaking the Trigger sets in the new style (including battle poses and whatnot). My thought is that if I can correctly emulate their poses in my own style, then when I get to the battle poses for the new characters, they'll be much easier to make awesome. XD It's already helping a lot with my ability to make dynamic poses, so expect some cool stuff comin' up real soon!

Oh, and BTW--the Trigger sprites and Vanessa sprite that are shown here are just bases--they will have poses when they stand still in the final version.

Well, except Chrono, since that's pretty much how he stood in Trigger, unless I make up a pose for him... Hmm.

Wow.  It looks...  Amazing.  Seriously.  I just seem to get more and more excited for this one.

The Sprite models are...  orgasmic.

Kudo's, kudo's.  You are making life just a tad bit brighter.

Hiya! Nice job on a lot of those. A few constructive criticisms. Now, keeping in mind I know NOTHING about spriting, I'll just comment on the general look of things.

Marle: Her pants seem a little too baggy and almost look... I dunno... wrinkled? Also, her and Ayla seem OBSCENELY thin.

Lucca: The problem is that you simply can't tell if there's a guy or girl under there. maybe make the hair protrude a bit more? I dunno. I also remember the glasses being larger in the original sprite, giving it a more anime look, which i liked a little more.

Frog: Looks a little odd. The face seems to thin, definitely.

Magus Looks... Cute. Cute? magus is not supposed to look cute! He's supposed to be foreboding. Ominous. Scary, even. This was a guy who terrorized humanity in the middle ages! I looked at the original sprite. The ears, I think, are too big. I think they need to be made smaller to emphasize Magus' humanity. His EYES, on the other hand, need to be deemphasized to emphasize his inhumanity. I'd think that'd probably make a better Magus on the whole. I also think he's a bit too colorful. I think his clothing should either be darkened or be shrouded a bit by the cape. Also, HE WEARS A CAPE, for god sakes. Use it. Make it bigger. Scarier, have it give him the illusion of mass, cuz Janus is a small guy, you'd think. Or bulk him up a bit. He looks WAY thin there.

Pretty awesome jobs on Ayla (minus the waist), Robo, Crono, and the Cross Crew. I look forward to this project quite a bit.

Now, back to lurk mode!

Frog seems a bit off, and Magus looks unlike Magus, he needs to be more evil-looking.  Robo's fine and Chrono's hair is too bright, other that that, they are GOOD!

Lena is spriting all of the Trigger sprites before beginning the Crisis sets to fully learn the style and techinques that were applied in Trigger, so the game will truly resemble its predecessor. If they're shown in Crisis, their designs would reflect any changes caused by time/and their environment.

Wrong place to put that buddy.

Back on topic: Chains of Fate, any idea when you'll have a demo?

What is the white thing behind the game logo? Is it an important item in the story, important like the Time Egg and the Chrono Cross were in CT and CC?

Looks like Nadia's Bell to me, but I can't be sure

By the way, how is this being made and how many people are in the process of making it?
Title: Re: Chrono Crisis Sprite and Artwork Update
Post by: Chains Of Fate on June 28, 2006, 12:34:01 am
To answer your questions...

Nightmare975: There won't be any more demos, we'll only be releasing the full game. We may release teaser trailers or something like that, but that's it until the whole game is completed.

Chrono'99: As Shadow Dragon said, it's Nadia's bell. But, it isn't what the final logo will look like. We've decided to do something else for that.

Shadow Dragon: I'm the only person working on the actual development of the game, besides the people making custom scripts. Other than myself, there's Lena Andreia (spriter), RoeTaKa (composer), Final Light Ceres (artist), and Validus (other artist).

This fan project is awesome but Xavier kinda looks like Claude from Star Ocean: The 2nd story.

The game's being made with RPG Maker XP, and I think you may be getting Claude from the red headband, Magus068. Other than that, I personally don't see the resemblance.

Ok. One thing I have to ask Chains of Fate. I've tried Temporal Flux and Rpg Maker 95 to XP and well I don't know what I'm doing (well I do) but how do you have the patience and what ever else you're putting up with to make Chrono Crisis? I gave up many projects that I started, GRRRR!
Title: Re: Chrono Crisis Sprite and Artwork Update
Post by: nightmare975 on June 29, 2006, 11:12:23 pm
That's your problem, you lost your patience and thus lost the will to make your games.
Title: Re: Chrono Crisis Sprite and Artwork Update
Post by: Chains Of Fate on June 30, 2006, 03:32:48 pm
Well, most people don't have the patience to complete a game, or even get a demo done. There's a ton of work involved with making a good game and it's taken me a few years just to get me where I am today. If you stick with it and really want it to happen, then it will happen. But, it's not something you can do on a whim.

Yes, you have to have the courage to finish what you've started. I sat on an incomplete Compendium for two years before I finally decided I would sacrifice the time to get it done. Just recently, I wrote a small short story for the OCR writing contest. I could have taken forever with it, letting it gnaw on my mind and sit around rotting incomplete on my hard drive, but I sat down one night at did it. There are all kinds of people who sit for years with various projects decomposing in the corners of their minds, whether they are games, novels, or other works. Get it done!

*looks at his CT guide he started on last year* ... yeah i know how that is zeal xD

As for demos, aside from possible testing among selected testers *pokes chains and lena*, the game wont be released in any shape to the public until its done. Which imo makes it better so you dont have to adapt to changes between the demo and final.

And for Xavier's looking like Claude. Aside from blonde hair and the red bandana they are nothing alike :S claude's hair is a bowl cut no less, Xaviers is the spikey bedhead like Crono's xD

I wanted to wait until it was finished to post it here, but if you'd like to have a look at the early version of Xavier's room, here it is:

Xavier's Room (The bed will be sprited seperately, thus why it is missing)
(http://img68.imageshack.us/img68/994/sroom14ab.th.png) (http://img68.imageshack.us/my.php?image=sroom14ab.png)

And the tower where he paints
(http://img477.imageshack.us/img477/4016/sroom22xb.th.png) (http://img477.imageshack.us/my.php?image=sroom22xb.png)

This is the first spriting that Validus has ever done, and these were made using only Microsoft Paint. The next version will have shading and a few other things will be changed. He'll also be switching to Photoshop soon, so he'll have a lot more flexibility.
