Title: Game stuff
Post by: Solidstar on November 25, 2005, 08:13:08 pm
While we are not even close to completing this, I figure why not put up exactly what's been going on and what will be happening with the actual programming status.

For starters, I've been working in RPG Maker 2K3, so you'll probably know what to expect as far as game stuff.  Up to 4 people in a party at any one time, however, I'm thinking of keeping it to 3 people at max.

Next, there is going to be more than one scenario... meaning this will take quite some time as each one needs to be developed plot-wise... and created tech-wise...

I've been in the process of creating a demo of what you may be able to expect... and while it's playble, it's far from what I'd like it to be... and it has an error or two I'm exploiting.

Courtes of the long weekend (and not being scheduled at work until Sunday), it is very much possible that there will be a prototype of what to expect in the next week or so... so long as KickAceChrono and Zep are obliged to see it released, and / or agree with direction in the story.  After all, we still have plot issues to work out as of this time.

Anyways, due to having nothing scheduled for today, I will now resume game prototype creation.

So you can code in RPGMaker and you never told us?! You should have said something man. It's confusing as heck to me.

Yeah well

I'm still learning to do some stuff in it, but yeah, I know how to use it well enough.

Quick update before bed

Added a few minor cutscene things to add flavor

Halfway done with the first half of the quest for the demo... so 25% total.

Looks good so far IMO.

Anyways, if I can get around to it, maybe I'll throw in some screens later on tomorrow... or maybe I'll just let suspense build...

A quick update...

Finished the first half of the first dungeon type thing.

It's very probable that Thursday / Friday there will be an entire pretty demo to play.

Yeah, that's about it for now.

cool. so do you have all the sprites?
Title: Game stuff
Post by: Solidstar on November 29, 2005, 10:49:56 pm
All that I need for now, yes.

The only thing I kinda need is battle sprites of Alexander... as I gave him the knight captain / cyrus sprite... which I have yet to find a battle sprite for.
Then I thought to give him the Cyrus ghost sprite... which I may do (make him look crazy cool).  I've yet to add him or give him any techs.
Also, I'm having difficulty (I've yet to really look into this) getting double and triple techs down.
Oh, which reminds me, Alex, should he have shadow, lightning,. ice, water fire, or some other kind of magic which he is attributed to?

Where are we off to now?

And that's all I got for now.  Granted the maps aren't fully pretty yet, but they are very playable.
What's left to work on is a few more maps and the boss of the area.

Again props to COF for the sprites.  Without those, this would have taken MUCH longer.  More to update later.

looks nice. I'm just wondering where in the story does the Forbidden Forset happen? And why is Marle in the party? Also, I was thinking we could possible have Alex as a knight who served under Cyrus, and thus we could give him the Nirvana Strike tech. I think he should be
Shadow becasue he's evil. That or fire, or water. Because there the only one's not in the game. Marle's Ice, Crono's Lightning. I think Vera should be fire. Alex could actually be water, and we could make him directly involved in the Stream of Time. If there's a way to change the color(I'm not well versed in RPGM) change the color of Alex becasue people might think hes actually Cyrus.

I figure beginning of the game quest we could have Marle for a fun playable character.
Under Cyrus eh?  The only prob I got with that is this is 1005 and Cyrus died before 600    But yeah, I can see him as a studier of Cyrus' technique.  That would be cool.  Nirvana Strike is DEFINITELY in.  Along with some... other... fun... things.. yeah.  I'll see what I can do.

I like the idea of water, he disrupts the stream of time which ends up screwing with dimensional stuff and what not (forgive the vagueness).  Changing the color will definitely be done, and it's quite easy.  Vera I thought of as a fire since she does use guns, like Lucca number 1 and number 2 I associate fire and guns for whatever odd reason.  Good idea.

Looks good. Is there a particular Chrono theme you need for it?
Title: Game stuff
Post by: Azarath on December 09, 2005, 02:45:39 pm
I agree. It looks very good. When you get the demo, we'll have to put it up on the website. I can't wait to play it. I think that once someone beats the game the first time, they unlock a special stage where the only people in the pary are Crono and Alex and they are fighting eith: Cyrus or Serge, and Glenn or Frog. If you win, you get cool items for when you play the game again. Oh yeah, and can you try to put up some of the gamer music? I'd like to hear it. If it's music from the old Chrono game, see if it can be remixed. Ask one of the music people for that. G'bye.

This looks so sweet!
Hopefully the story doesn't get screwed due to the misinterpretation and confusion of the plot

Holy crap. For some reason all these things I though of 2+ years ago are coming back, like Nirvana Strike, which I wanted to put in a game I wished to make. I've got to put copyright on my thoughs now ^_^

Haha. Typical Marle.
Looks great! I dont know about the Chrono's story text though...
Is that going to be in game?

Post by: Burning Zeppelin on December 11, 2005, 02:04:04 am
Can Marle die? She is one of the only video game characters I would really, truly wish to kill. And I've met Rose in MGS2.
Title: Game stuff
Post by: Tonjevic on December 11, 2005, 07:41:11 am
I would like to see Marle die also, but not for the same reason as Mr. Blunt over there ;). I think it would be a great (minor) motif for the story and feel of the game, as it would make for a more emotionally moving experience.
Title: Game stuff
Post by: kickacecrono0091 on December 11, 2005, 12:19:24 pm
hmmm I didn't  think Marle was too bad of a character, but it would come as a cmoplete surprise to everybody and would add some emotional depth. On the downside, tons of Marle-lover hate mail.
Title: Game stuff
Post by: Solidstar on December 11, 2005, 12:31:33 pm
Yeah, that could be a bad thing.  I like Marle... but you're right, it would be a very emotional drive to kick someone's butt.  We can use the idea of the stream again.  Yeah, Marle dying will be able to happen, but if it doesn't happen, then you get a different ending.  (There will be a lot of endings... ugh...)
And what do you mean the "Crono's story" text?  Do you mean the last picture?  I have it show up like Alex's Story, and like the 1005 AD stuff.
In other news... I've worked a LOT on Crono's quest last night.  It's coming along very VERY nicely (up until 5 this morning fooling with everything).
So here's my question... in this I have Porre Military Training Grounds.  And there's three of them (North, West, and East).  In each I have a general (or a commander, or a captain, or whatever you want me to call the guy).  There's also a bunch of troops  (and by that I mean at least 20 per area) marching and working out in perfect step with each other.  Do we want to eventually simulate a battle with these people (any of them).  I'm thinking that they're the ones that eventually attack Guardia while Crono and Marle are away.  Let me know what you think.

Oh, and I just htought of something... rather than having Marle die what if we do this... have her and Crono become separated.  In one scenario she dies, but in the other, she gets away and ends up going on her own quest... which you'll be able to start in New Game +.  Again, let me know.
Title: Game stuff
Post by: Tonjevic on December 11, 2005, 04:02:00 pm
Actually, these are all great ideas, and having marle die only sometimes shifts the blame off us and onto the player for thier bad decisions, driving them to rectify that through the rest of the game.

About the text, I think that it's a little bit lairy - garish even - when these big fat letters pop up midgame and proclaim that you are playing Chrono's story.
Maybe we could just have a select character menu at the start, or a scene a the begginning of the game where your actions dictate who you have.
Ech character leads thier own seperate story after that, and it is, I thik, very clear to the player who they are playing as. Until, of course, the player charcters paths converge or whatever.

Other than that, I think you're doing a great job! You are putting alot of quality effort into this.
Title: Game stuff
Post by: kickacecrono0091 on December 11, 2005, 05:14:52 pm
So your saying if you do something, when Marle goes off on a quest, you could start a New Game+ that goes through her quest? That'd be nifty.
Title: Game stuff
Post by: Solidstar on December 11, 2005, 11:38:24 pm
Yeah, and not all that difficult to do too... just that it'll take time to program her quest :-p
The thing that will be probably the best about this game is how all of the stories will cross over each other and some wil interact with each other.

As for what's happening right now... Alex's quest is on hold until we can all figure out what happens after he leaves the hospital.  Due to the bridge being out (it gets hit by an element (Tornado)) at the beginning of Crono's quest, Alex is stuck in Porre for the moment.  My guess is that he should talk to the other generals (commanders or whatever) and eventually meet up with mr slave dude - Therris I think we named him?  From there... a quest to rebuild the bridge...

As for Crono... after the forest is finished, and we either rescue or say screw you Alex, I'm thinking, Crono should either pay someone off to rebuild the bridge or something happens that allows him to get back to Guardia easily enough to report.  I don't know, I think we need to brainstorm on that one.

Let me know what you want to do.  But as far as the game is progressing, it's coming along very nicely.  I am thoroughly enjoying programming this game and am myself looking forward to playing it (moreso than I do now for testing reasons).
I think I may post the script as of now later on.  I kind of have to go through and find it all :-p  haha.  Yeah, anyways, let me know what you think and such people.

By the way, thanks for the compliments, they mean a lot.

Post by: kickacecrono0091 on December 12, 2005, 06:08:59 pm
Wiesty needs to know wat music he'll be doing. So if you could just list the areas in the demo he'd probably be able to tell or else we could tell him. Also, he needs to know how long he should make the theme for the cave wear you find Alex.(Where he nearly dies, you fight the monster, etc etc.)
Title: Game stuff
Post by: Tonjevic on December 13, 2005, 02:10:31 am
This all sounds great.
Things are coming along, and its mostly thanks to YOU, Solidstar.
But thanks to everyone else too, just to make them feel happy.
One thing to note, in the scene where we see the bridge being destroyed, or whatever, can we have the ferry passing underneath? Because people would ask, 'What about the ferry?' Other suggestions are welcome, as that scenario is a little crappy.
Title: Game stuff
Post by: Solidstar on December 13, 2005, 12:43:00 pm
It's not a very fun fun scene to be hoonest.  It takes place on the world map and you see a couple of tornadoes spawn out of nowhere next to the bridge.  Then, you hear a crumbling followed by there not being a bridge anymore... If I can remember I'll create a broken sprite to put in its place.

For music... let me think...
- Overworld (Guardia for Crono and Porre for Alex)
- Forest
- Cave
- Overworld of Porre (this will be used for Crono's quest): make this one sound kind of dramatic I suppose if possible (right now I'm using the Ocean Palace music)
- Boss Music
- Battle Music
- I already have the perfect music for Alex's intro, so that's not so bad, but we could use some for Crono's.  Something half dark, mysterious, and something to give it a kick.

That's all the music I can think of for now.  Time to go take a final and then back here to work on Chrono Stream.  By the way, anybody have a good idea what the monster in the cave should look like?  I already have Therris' sprites made up (took human Glenn and gave him blue hair, red cape... looks cool).  Let me know.
Title: Game stuff
Post by: Tonjevic on December 13, 2005, 05:03:54 pm
That's what I thought would be done, concerning the bridge. But I state again, What happened to the ferry?
Title: Game stuff
Post by: Solidstar on December 13, 2005, 05:11:49 pm
Who knows... I guess the ferry can take Crono and Marle back after their cave adventure ends.  I have to remember to put that in.  Ok, back to work.
Title: Game stuff
Post by: kickacecrono0091 on December 13, 2005, 05:41:44 pm
Thanks for the music. But what do you mean by Overworld of Porre? Is it like the Porre overworld theme but a bit more dramatic, or a new song to play while your on Porre as Crono?
Title: Game stuff
Post by: Solidstar on December 13, 2005, 09:16:25 pm
Both pretty much would be good.  For Crono, dungeonesque music; for Alex, a kind of militaristic theme.

do u need a new forest song or the old one?
Title: Game stuff
Post by: Solidstar on December 13, 2005, 11:49:32 pm
I'm using the old one now, but if you want to have new music, I suppose we can remix it.  I suppose when I get this totally finished and you all review it before release, we can decide what stays and what goes.

Edit: Check out the Spoilers section so we can all figure out Alex's quest as of now.

Im reasonably confident with SF now.
Are there any sounds in particular that you would like?
Title: Game stuff
Post by: Solidstar on January 03, 2006, 12:08:53 am
Sounds that would be good to have...

-Menu sounds (cursor moving, canceling, selecting, etc)

-Monster type sounds (growls, grunts, etc)

-Things that you'd hear in silence (crickets, wind, anything you can think of)

-Water (drip, stream, waterfall, anything else you can think of)

- Lava (the bubbles and whatnot)

I can't think of anything else at the moment

Thanks, I'll do my best.

In an update today, both Alex's and Crono's second quests are complete.  Work to begin the third quests will begin shortly enough.  As soon as plot and everything is laid out I'll start it up some more.

It's looking very promising, I'll tell you that much.
