So wild to see new Chrono Cross content in like...ever!
I also noticed that it releases December 9th, which is the same day that the Video Game Awards (VGA) air - that's where/when the Chrono Cross Remastered is rumored to be announced...
-
O Joined in 2015 and have only one post, about the Brazilian Portuguese translation. Now I'm back heh. There is another trailer with voice acting for Harle, Serge and Kid. I fearful that this is it, just a collab. At the same time... they wouldn't hire voice actors and produce these beautiful cell shading renditions just for this collab, right? ... right?
Trailer with voices of Harle, Serge and Kid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxUo4j1rIOM
PS.: wtf are these verification questions?

Just found an Easter Egg. If you click the pocket watch on the announcement page, it takes you to a retro version of the page, as it might have looked back in 2000:

Apparently, they will:
Don't miss out on the in-game voice acting just for this crossover event.
Sad face...

I'm not a fan of the voice acting. I know everybody has their own headcanon of what the characters sound like, but Kid sounds too old and Harle's accent is so ridiculously over-the-top that she's almost impossible to understand. Oddly enough, Serge sounds okay.
If there is indeed going to be a Chrono Cross revival and it has voice acting, I hope they get a different actress for Kid and also have her portray Harle, but tone down the accent a couple dozen notches.

That is amazing. And frighteningly accurate. I don't remember the last time I saw a Guestbook or site counter!

I initially thought Another Eden would be a decent game. Boy was I wrong. And as I played it, I saw it for what it really is: a wall against normal progression. And the tools to get over that wall require real money or ridiculous amounts of invested time. I got to a point where I couldn't progress because I had no characters with the abilities I needed to win. My only choice was to pay real money "for a chance" "a chance" to get what I needed, or level up my current characters for 4 to 5 hours so they're overpowered. And what's worse is: In this game you have no healing items in battle.
And imagine spending real money and still not getting what you need! Because it's all #$%$ing random!
At that point I began to despise the game and I was completely out!
So, be warned...
-
Man, I'm so exited about this.
I started playing Another Eden like a month ago and there were so many references to Chrono Trigger and Cross, but I never thought they would actually do this.
-
We need to rip literally everything possible when this comes out. Screenshots, screenrips, audio rips if there are Cross songs, documenting the dialogue and script...this is Kato's chance to change or reinforce the canon of Cross.
I guess the biggest thing would be somehow ripping the AE ROM once it's been updated to have the Cross content.
-
Don't remember how easy the PC version can be ripped, but if it's like the script files then it might not be that much of a problem.

I was left in doubt regarding the collab: does that mean that the connection between Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross got retconned?
The news i read was kinda insinuating that, if a CC remake gets in the way, they could "redo" the connections with Chrono Trigger to make it tie with Another Eden instead.
Honestly i never read anything similar happening even in other forms of media.
-
While no doubt they might try to add Another Eden tie-ins, I doubt they'd really try to excise the Chrono Trigger elements. Where did you read that?

In other news, the collab to be featured on this week's Famitsu:

See, I'm in the exact opposite camp. Serge sounded so blase fair and didn't really sound cool, but Kid's Australian accent made her shine and I really liked her voice. Harle sounded good too -- pretty much like I always heard her in my head (with that thick French accent oozing sultry dragon-god).
Not that my interpretation is the correct one. Just pointing out that voice acting is can be such a challenge to nail down, and opinions vary wildly. Unless the Chrono Cross remaster has voiced dialogue - and it sounds like it won't - they would have been better served just not doing it.
-
Previous collaborations in Another Eden didn't bother with English voices, only Japanese. The Chrono Cross one would be the first bothering with English voices. An interesting decision, but if the remaster isn't voiced, then I do wonder...
Now, as for personal opinion about it... well, I'm mostly just getting used to the fact of actually hearing them voiced.
-
Man if after all this all we get is a Remaster as opposed to a Remake Imma be real sad...
-
Personally, I feel Cross doesn't really need an outright remake. Just an HD retouch and gameplay tweaks/fixes perhaps, which is what the Remaster is likely to be about, with maybe some additional content for sure.
Though most importantly, more exposure to the general public. Chrono Trigger has its numerous ports, but outside being put on the Playstation Network, Cross only really had its original release and Greatest Hits version. The collaboration with Another Eden is a good first step, and the remaster can be a good second too. Only then perhaps we could consider an actual remake later on.
-
Collab is up on iOS! Looks like Android and Steam won't be until two hours as scheduled... though perhaps it might be earlier... hopefully...?
EDIT: Up for Android too now.
-
Just came by to rant at the lack of any reveal and share my crushed hopes...
:picardno
-
I guess that's what I get for daring to have hope.
-
Well december ain't over yet right? RIGHT?! :?
-
That's our next best bet, yeah.
-
I hypothesis that tonight's showing wasn't catered to big names we've known. It looked more padded to the western world. cinematic like videogames. I really doubt this is the end like you said. Nintendo was dead silent for this award ceremony and I have a feeling the next Direct will give us a CC update.

Well, when I read that the Game Awards would take place at the "Microsoft Theater", I thought it would be odd to reveal a game so tied with Playstation, even if it isn't an exclusive. And that is what happened: the reveals last night were Xbox-centric (Alan Wake, Halo Series, etc)
-
The singer making the new song for the remaster said she couldn't talk about the game, but that it would be announced at "Christmas".

So in the end, did the collaboration add anything to the plot or world building of Chrono Cross? Or is it simply a bunch of "What if Kid interacted with Another Eden characters?" type of stuff?

It's hard to say. It mostly worked like previous collaborations in that it's basically "Characters from Collab end up in the Another Eden world, get involved in an adventure similar to their series of origin, then leave."
Complex Dreams, however, does make what could be considered a big change: Harle comes to accept she doesn't have to rejoin the Dragon God. That could have repercussions if she were to return to her world. Considering that the Cross characters have yet to return home, unlike the other collab characters, and that Complex Dreams ends with possible plot hooks, it's very likely this isn't over.
That said, even with Harle having made such a decision, we can't be sure it will stick, since so far previous collaborations also had their characters mostly forget what happened during their stay in Another Eden, so only time will tell if the Cross characters will have the same happen to them or not.

That's interesting, that bit about Harley. At least it's something. So many of the mobile spin-off type crossovers are just totally inconsequential to their main games. (Fire Emblem Heroes, every "Tales of" spin-off, etc)
-
I tried playing the game almost on a daily basis to lv up and get to the point where I could do the Crossover but maaaaaaaaaan did I get bored :X I just can't even with these mobile games...and unskippable cutscenes in nowadays climate is a sin...
