Easy question this time.
For Guile, I pick Chrono Cross.
-
So it's Yasuyuki Honne? I always thought CC's character designer was the mangaka Nobuteru Yuuki... :?
-
I like his concept art STYLE better, but I still hold the concept art DESIGN of Mr. Toriyama highly superior. I mean...Magus. Lavos.
Say wut.

Never really liked Toriyama's style. It just seems so unrealistic.
-
I'm not a Dragon Ball Z fan. I always thought the charater art in the show was bad. Although I never really knew that it was from the same person . So I picked the Chrono Cross artist.
-
I've always enjoyed Akira's work
-
Yuuki's is more realistic, so I picked Akira. I play games to get away from reality. The more real they get, the less I enjoy them. Video games (in my opinion) should be played so you can do stuff you'd never be able to do int he real world.

Ahem (http://www.chronocompendium.com/wiki/index.php?title=Image:Night.jpg). It works on so many levels!

I'm with you Dewey!

Oh, I agree! That pic is magical. Never seen it before.
@At the Poll
I go Akira all the way, I absolutely love the DBZ artwork, always have, always will.[/quote]

Eh, I picked Yuuki's at first, but now I think I'd have chosen Akira now that I think about it. CC's art, while gorgeous in terms of design, reminds me of too many other PSX RPGs (FF9 etc.), While CT's got that distinct style that isn't really matched by any other SNES RPG.

That'd better be the pendant Marle's pointing at.

I'm sorry! But come on...Toriyama is kinda of pervvy. DBZ had many moments of lechery.
-
DB had a ton (First two volumes, anyone?)
-
1) Toriyama didn't do all of DBZ, like the FFC release of CT, underlings took over after the first story and Akira also did the last of the series. If you want to compare, Toriyama did more of Dragonball than DBZ. Also, DB>DBZ.
2) How the heck can you say that the CC characters are more realistic!?! Hello? Kid! Almost none of the female dimensions are realistic (except maybe, like Macha & Sprigg or something...). I think we have to take in account that all of these characters take place in an anime/manga world...So nothing's 'real' and everything's up for grabs.
3) I loved the look of all the CT characters. I mean, the little touches like having Magus w/a widow's peak were things that really made the characters stand out. I mean, the complexities of Robos design in and of itself were amazing. He looks futuristic, and yet, still from a very different world's future. Frog too was nice. CC had some good designs, but I just didn't think many of them stood out a lot...A lot of their costumes seemed just like that...costumes. Not many of them seemed like they were actually wearing the clothes of the trail-worn traveler and hero. But of course, many of them weren't that...so maybe that's why I didn't like their designs...they don't fit right...
-
Miki always stood out for me :D

I thought Toriyama did do all of the original DBZ story and manga. The cartoon wasn't done by him (animés are never made by mangaka in Japan because they are 2 different jobs).
-
I always liked the spites better than the art. I don't know why, but the closer I look at CT's sprites the more detailed they seem to be.
-
They're very pixely close-up though.
-
Yeah, but this onetime I enlarged Magus' portrait and I really noticed the bags under his eyes and the crease or his eyebrows.
-
I would have to say Chrono Trigger, as I have always liked Akira Toriyama's style. His character's may not look all that real, but they always end up looking impressive none the less.
But don't get me wrong though, as I still enjoy the art for Chrono Cross. It's just not AS good as the art for Chrono Trigger.
-
Why do so many people like DBZ? I think it is very boring, the episodes take forever, and the fighting always ends with a Kamehameha! It's just like Napoleon Dynomite! Execept DBZ is better than Napoleon Dynomite... :P
Aight! 50 posts! Now I'm a guardian!

Why do so many people like DBZ?
I'm guessing you mean in general because nobody (at the very least not 'so many') in here has really said they do...I said Dragonball kicks ass, and that it does...Dragonball Z is iffy at best...
It's just like Napoleon Dynomite! Execept DBZ is better than Napoleon Dynomite...
Napoleon Dynamite isn't about the story though really, which, is admittedly slow and aimless...It's about the characters and the nostalgia factor. If you're not feelin either one of those or it's sense of comedy, it's just not for you (and 2 bad 4 j00!)...
-
Yuuki, definitely.
Though, I do have appreciation for Toriyama's style.

Comedy? Dude, I thought it was to cure insomnia, 'cause it put me to SLEEP!
On topic, wow, its tied. 14-14.
-
Toryiama I think more detail was put into his characters than the Cross ones. Like V_T said they look like they should be heroes.
-
I think it's more effective if they DON'T look like heroes.
-

True, after all - as I just learned in class the other day - what Chrono Trigger would be defined as, by nature of its focus on Crono, a normal person, is a Folk Tale. In myths there are Divine Myths concerning the gods, Heroic Saga Myths concerning heroes of nobility, and then a third category, which is not true myth, and that is the Folk Tale. Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross would fall into this category. As an interesting side-thought, so would Lord of the Rings. The Ainulindalë is then the Divine Myth, and the rest of the Silmarilion the Heroic Myth.
-
Every time I look here, it's tied (16-16 now).

I'd like to see what the time travelers would look like in full battle dress.
-
A little like this, maybe?

Though I suppose it's only a curiass, not full armour. He's got a little more armour in this one, but it's not anime style, and the face is horridly wrong.

Nice

I was more trying to say that CC's characters don't look like heroes and this is because they aren't heroes...It's just a ragtag group of people who should have stayed good NPCs instead of turning into mediocre (at best) playable characters...But perhaps that's beside the point...
I dunno if I'd say, aside from some of their hair, that the CT characters look like heroes per say...They just look trail worn, like they really could be heroes. But perhaps this is also because CT takes place in a slightly less technologically advanced world...? I dunno.
-
Geez, that is a hard one...
I`d say I like both equally.
Though, I chose CC, because of Harle, Riddel and Serge, which I find to have the coolest artwork in the series :)
