An extras section has been added!
This has been added to the title menu. After completing the game, the following sections will be unlocked:
Illustrations
View various illustrations from CHRONO TRIGGER
We need someone to extract the native illustrations, or failing that, just screenshot PNGs of each, if you've unlocked this feature.

To celebrate the 23rd anniversary of Chrono Trigger's original North American release, I played through the Steam version and got all the achievements.
Unfortunately, the images aren't simply sitting around in the game's installation folder as I had hoped, and I don't know how to extract them. I took screenshots at the best resolution I could, but that's only 1680x1050. They came out blurry-looking, despite being PNGs.
I've also included images from the Steam trading cards and profile backgrounds for the game. They're JPEGs, but they're bigger (1920x1080) and clearer than my screenshots. Unfortunately, the full-body character portraits from the game's bonus features weren't available.
Hopefully these will be helpful.

Straight up beautiful. I'll leave this up in case someone can unpack the source files, but this is great. They're so clean, damn. It makes me wonder what kind of archival copies Square really has. Thanks so much for these.

No problem! 8)
I wouldn't mind trying to extract the raw images, assuming:
- someone can explain to a total noob how to do it,
- the programs involved are free, and
- it's not going to get my Steam account banned if I goof up somehow (I don't expect that it would, but again—total noob here).
-
Just reviving this -- anyone take a look through the local installed files directory to try and get at these?
I may buy CT and poke around to see if they're hidden somewhere easy to access.

Hmm, may be possible they're in the resources.bin file. Found this:

If they truly have a tool to extract things from the file, and the illustrations are there, then maybe...

Okay, testing this...
-
Damn, that is crisp. I take it the tool worked...I'll have to create a new section under Official Art if so.
-
Okay, will be uploading them.
-
Next batch.
-
And the next.
-
Last ones.
There, done.

Thanks a ton. It is mind-blowing to me how so many different appearances of this art have different color hues. I guess we can take these as the true palettes. I'll get these on Official Art.
