Title: Important Differences
Post by: rushingwind on July 28, 2018, 03:25:21 am
I've had the great fortune to really explore and improve upon my musicianship these last few years. I've gotten great at the piano and guitar, and I'm an opera singer! It's been so amazing to pursue those dreams which once seemed so impossible that I never honestly allowed myself to consider pursuing them... until they nearly fell in my lap (I mean, I've been working hard at it, but the opportunity had to fall in my lap, I mean!).

So, I thought for this year's Dream Splash I'd create this awesome piece of music, complete with those epic female vocals you hear in other dramatic music! After all, I can play the instruments, and I can sing, so why not?

Problem is... I am not a composer. I can do great covers, but it's hard for me to musically "think outside of the box" without sheet music to guide me.

So, I've learned that being a good musician is not the same as having good musicianship. But! The Dream of Zeal will continue to drive me forwards to learn new things!

Just thought I'd share that with you guys. :)

Sounds like someone is living the Springtime of Youth! :D

I had no idea you were a singer IRL! That's rad. And kudos to you as a musician. I play a little guitar, but I've played percussion for over twenty years. I don't get to play nearly as much as I used to, and it's now mostly a hobby. Every once and I while I'll get the itch and miss the energy playing live shows and find a way to do a one-off.

Looking forward to what you're putting together for Dream Splash! Keep up that Springtime of Youth pursuit of personal ambition and betterment!!!

It could be worse. I have absolutely no musical ability or knowledge at all (I never could grasp reaing sheet music...it was too abstract for me) and because of this, I have relaxed boundaries as to what is melodically possible. That sounds nice, except whn you have a remix of Schala's theme fused with Bloody Tears from Castlevania stuck in your head and aren't sure if you imagined hearing it one time  and it became an ear worm or if you imagined it outright but can't reproduce it.

Hey, that's awesome!  I got my degree in vocal performance, so I spent all of college singing art songs and opera!

As for composing, I completely understand. It's hard enough to try and do something original, let alone think outside of the box. Keep at it! Anyone can compose.  We're our own worst enemy when it comes to music, don't over think it and things will start to happen. :)
