Another year has completed. On to the next one!
-
Happy 18th birthday, Mauron! ;D
-
Close enough! :P
-
My bad. Sweet sixteen, now wasn't it?
-
Yeah, definitely that one. :P
-
I just celebrated the 23rd anniversary of my 16th birthday. :o
-
Happy birthday-anniversary! I'm on my 17th anniversary of my 16th.
-
Ha ha, all this mortality math is depressing.
But happy birthday (belated) anyway, Mauron!
8)
-
Thanks!
-
32 Double sixteen here. Here's to the glorious thirties, unrealized dreams, and the looming existential threat of a midlife crisis!
-
Wait, was that written as an actual age?
Madness.

*raises glass to a fellow 30*
Next few years are gonna suck. :D
-

Madness.
Whoops. Fixed!
-
Yeah I turn the big 4-0 this year!! :o I don't want to. ha ha!!
-
16 times two this year here!
Most in our thirties (doube 16s) still pining over an RPG from our childhoods. You know, some terrible people may call us nerds...

Those terrible people probably don't even have multiple bookcases filled with video games. :P
-
I proudly wave my nerd flag! Ha ha! all in all, I am pretty nerdy, but that's fine with me. Beats being stupid. LOL
-
Hey no fair! I didn’t see this topic, although I did manage to wish Mauron a happy birthday on time on private message. Well I’ll do it again, because I can! Happy birthday again! :P
-
It's been hiding on here since I made it. Thanks again!
-
I didn't see the bookcases comment until now. LOL I have bookcases filled with books AND video games! I think that makes me a double nerd. Ha ha ha!!
And Happy Belated birthday Mauron!! *throws streamers*
-
Books, video games, manga, DVDs, etc. I've got multiple walls of bookcases.
Thanks! *gets streamed*
-
Bookcases rock! I don't know if there is a more useful piece of furniture. LOL
By the way Mauron, when is your birthday? I ask because mine is on December 12th.
-
January 21st. Not long ago.
-
I just noticed that someone said your birthday wasn't long ago so I was curious. Made me wonder if we were possible birthday twins (even though it's already been almost 2 months since my birthday! LOL) Anyway, I hope you had a great day! Btw, I LOVE your avatar photo!
-
Did you get the "do you get fewer presents because your birthday is so close to Christmas" question a lot?
It's an excellent avatar.
-
Yeah I turn the big 4-0 this year!! :o I don't want to. ha ha!!
Did that a few years ago. You guys are all making me feel old again.
On bookcases: scary quantities of those here. Many of them stacked three deep with SF&F novels. And I'm running out of space again, sigh. The video games are crammed onto a mere two shelves.
-
Space is always an issue.
-
I actually had to downsize my bookshelves over the past few years. Sold all of my old game systems and games that I had been holding onto -- NES, my two SNES, PS2, and all the games. I've since backed them up digitally to play via emulator.
I made a pretty penny on eBay. I had a few rare RPG items!
I also had to sell most of my player's guides. I did keep the Chrono Cross one, though!
As PS3 and Wii emulation are reaching high reliability, I'll be doing the same for those two systems.
-
I've repurchased too many of the games I've sold in the past to do it again.
-
Did you get the "do you get fewer presents because your birthday is so close to Christmas" question a lot?
Yeeeeees and I'd had boyfriends try and do that to me too. However, if I want something bigger, like, I don't know, a video game system or something (LOL) I use it as a bargaining chip. Ha ha!
Also, I'm sorry for making you feel old Alfador. I don't want to do that to anyone! I was starting to think that I was the oldest one here! :o
-
I got asked that a lot too. I never had a good answer, since my birthday was always close to Christmas and I was an only child.
I finally learned the answer recently: I did, but my parents got me extra stuff in the summer to make up for it.
It was a useful bargaining chip at times!
-
It's a nice one to have IMO, if you want something expensive. It's worked for me a few times!
I have a snotty younger brother, his birthday is in September. No bargaining chip for you!!
-
I think I might have used it on an N64 one year.
It serves him right for being so snotty. :P
-
I know I used it to get a DS one year. LOL
Damn right serves him right! Ha ha ha ha!
-
By the time I got a DS they weren't super pricey anymore.
My Vita was just an ordinary Christmas gift, I think.
-
Not to change the subject, but I freaking love my PSP. I have the 3000 and still use it for a lot of 32-bit era and below emulation. NES/SNES, GB/GBA/ PSX, etc. On top of PSP games.
I've been trying to get through the first Persona game (the PSP version) and it's pretty hard to get into, lol... I hear great things about the series and hear that it doesn't really pick up until the third one, but damn, the first one is a challenge to sink my teeth into.
I've taken a break and been replaying LoZ: Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask on the 3DS, haha...
I also just modded Mass Effect Andromeda to give that a playthrough. I loved the first three, preordered Andromeda, but never ended up played it (I normally try to wait a few months for patches and bugfixes to be implemented). I've been tempted to buy FFXII: Zodiac Age, but decided to hold tight for FFXV: Windows Edition... granted, I have very little time for video games anyways, these days!
-
I use my PSP on occasion. I'll play through the first Persona one of these days. I started with Persona 4 Golden, then played 3 and and 5 when it came out. Currently I'm in the middle of Persona 4: Dancing All Night.
They're not essential to play in order, but they do make references that are easier to understand if you've played the previous games.
I've never gotten very far in Majora's Mask. The time limit thing didn't particularly help.
Haven't touched Mass Effect, and gave up on FFXII. I haven't gotten to any of the newer ones.
-
I've never tried a PSP. I'm a Nintendork. Ha ha! I have had my 3DS for quite awhile though and it still works great! I wouldn't mind a new one, but if I was going to drop money on something like that right now, I'd rather buy a Switch.
Is it weird I've never gotten into Final Fantasy? Maybe I just haven't tried the right one, it seems there are millions of those games. Ha ha!
-
I haven't gotten anything newer than a DS or Wii.
Final Fantasy Tactics is my favorite.
-
Nintendorks unite!
Majora's mask is definitely worth spending more time on. The time limit does take a while to get used to. Once you learn how to manipulate the time by slowing it down and speeding it up, it gets more exciting. Don't give up on it!
-
Yeah, even though there's a time limit, it's not really inhibiting and it's actually a fun gameplay gimmick. I wouldn't want it for every Zelda game, but for a one-off with such a unique world/feeling.
It's sort of like Groundhog Day -- it's a three day time loop with the world ending at the end of the three days. Every single NPC has a set routine for those three days and most have an accompanying quest that you can gradually uncover over the course of those three days. There's a lot of overlap in quests, too.
That all being said, the first time I played it, I was really frustrated with the time limits imposed. The three days goes quick -- I think the entire three days takes 36 minutes. But once I discovered the Inverted Song of Time, you can slow time's flow down to like 1/4 of that, which makes the three days over two hours per cycle.
For example, I just did the first dungeon in about an in-game day, and that's with finding all of the stray fairies hidden around the dungeon. But I think frustrations with the game are valid -- in many ways it doesn't feel like a Zelda game. The tone, look, and concept is so incredibly different from normal Zelda games.
Also, good to know about Persona references. That helps motivate me to keep playing, even if minimal. Those kind of rewards help invest me with playing through multiple games in a series.

FINAL FANTASY TACTICS IS MY JAM
-
Maybe I'll try it again. I think the last time I tried it I stopped because of a vacation. At the moment I'll probably pick up the Persona 3 extra story from FES next.
I know for example, there's a part in 4 where your school goes on a trip to another town, and if you've played 3, you'll recognize the place as where you lived in that game.
I recommend Persona 3 FES over the original and Portable, and Persona 4 Golden over the original Persona 4.
I recommend the original Final Fantasy Tactics over War of the Lions. Even if they had translation issue, having everyone speak Ye Olde English was just weird.
-
I only ever played the original Japanese PS1 version of FFT, but it is one of my favorite games of all time, hands down. The game system, the story, the music, it's all just so good.
-
The translation of that had things like l i t t l e m o n e y, I got a good feeling!, and I guess we must fight! EAAAGH!
I have heard that the Blaze Gun shooting Ice was a Japanese issue.
-
FFT is one of those games I have yet to finish... Every time I get farther than the last, but I've never gotten far enough to chill with the mighty Cidolphus.
I have tore up FFTA and FFTA2, which despite being completely different from FFT, were solid strategy games in and of themselves.
One thing that I liked about FFXII (I've always loved it since day 1) is how the Ivalice and political beats coincide to a degree. FFXII being sci-fi high fantasy mishmash, which FFT tended to be more olde English medieval fantasy, but those same similar political machinations that felt nuanced and steeped in rich history.
-
It took me a few tries to get through FFT. Especially when using only one save at certain points. :x
-
It happened again! Age++ :o
-
Happy birthday! You leveled up!
What stat boost do you want to choose this year?
-
I'm still putting points in Charisma.
-
Oh, Happy Birthday, Mauron.
Heh, does all that Charisma has paid off already?
-
It's been improving. I think I might be at an 8 by now. ^_^
-
Happy Birthday!!!!
-
Happy birthday! Sounds like I'm the young buck here, solid 14-2+16 here. 8)
-
Thanks! Oh man, what a youngin'!
-
:bday
Happy birthday, Mauron!
-
Thanks!
-
Happy Birthday!! I hope you had a great day Mauron!
Unfortunately I wasn’t able to have the big bash I wanted because of the job situation. I mean it was a big one too, the big 4-0!! :o Maybe I’ll just have to do it this year (my birthday is 12/12.) Here’s to hoping that 2019 is a better year!
And again... happy birthday!!
-
Thanks! This year has been off to a good start.
4-1 is big too if you want it to be!
-
Happy birthday Mauron, I just now figured out what the ++ meant. Also I didn't know you leveled up on your birthday, thats awesome. Whatever that creature thing is in the hat is some scary shit.
-
Thanks. Leveling up is cool
-
Thanks. Leveling up is cool
Leveling up is definitely cool, but I still don’t want to be level 40!
-
Those 0 years are awful.
-
Happy (late) birthday, Nadia
-
Thanks. Leveling up is cool
Leveling up is definitely cool, but I still don’t want to be level 40!
At least according to the Chronoverse you Max out at level 99 right? (if you can do the real life equivalent of grinding)
-
I’ve been so busy and have had a lot going on lately (my call center is closing but I already got a new and better job that I start a week from Monday and my divorce will be final on Wednesday! Woot woot) that I forgot to call attention to my leveling up last month. Lol My birthday is December 12th. It was uneventful, I spent the day driving back home from Colorado. Lol I did have a fun time while I was there though, I’ll definitely be going back. :)
-
Happy birthday! Congrats on the finalization and new job!
I've got about half a month until I age.
