The japanese company Gree announced they're working on a game called Another Eden, planned for smartphones.
The scenario was written by Masato Kato and the opening theme was composed by Yasunori Mitsuda.
Another Eden will be focused around time-traveling. The player will be able to travel through 3 different eras: ancient, contemporary and future.

So Masato Kato wrote the scenario, Yasunori Mitsuda wrote the opening theme, and the game is called Another Eden (pointing at Another World and Sea of Eden)... I wonder what other coincidences will come up. 8)
-
I think that this game will be a prolonged "Zeal chapter".
-
I see a character with spiky red hair. hmm
-
So? Are that cam Nds original or these bigger games think, and if it cam it cam that nds3...'
But... i doubt it even cam europe... but... will we see?
-
It's always great when these two talents come together for a project.
I am hoping SE scoops up Kato and Matsuda for something Chrono related, that is, after FFXV and the FF7 Remake drop...
-
Not trying to be pessimistic or anything since I know very well what these 2 talented guys can do...
but not even Chuck Norris can kick Smart Phones into being decent gaming machines. Touch controls are simply underwhelming and too limiting regardless of talent.
-
Agreed, but it makes gaming headlines over the web.
Combine this with every article and review I've seen of "I Am Setsuna" mentioning CT in some way,
+
The prospect of SE's statement about reviving their popular IPs of old,
=
Hope, news buzz, and lots of positive reinforcement older gamers needed.

Since this came across my radar: A Switch port for Another Eden has been announced (https://www.rpgsite.net/news/7086-another-eden-the-cat-that-travels-through-space-and-time-global-and-switch-release-announced) for Japan. An international release is also in the works, though whether that will be for Switch or mobile is unknown.
For those who don't know, Another Eden (https://another-eden.jp/) is a free-to-play mobile game written and directed by Masato Kato, with some music by Yasunori Mitsuda. The game heavily features time travel.
-
Wha -- there's even a samurai knight frog man?!?!
I also wonder about Final Fantasy Dimensions II, directed by another Chrono Trigger alumni, Takashi Tokita. It's also all about time travel and for mobile phones.
There's clearly a drive from some of the old Chrono Trigger team to follow it up with spiritual successors.
-
Heh, I like that subtitle.
"The cat that travels through space and time"
Too bad I don't know enough Japanese, but at least just looking at that subtitle, and some parts of the website, it seems it does have cats as an important thing there.
I wonder, though, since it makes me think on Crono's cat(s), when going through the gate in the ending variation where the Epoch wasn't crashed on Lavos. I'd laugh if that was really the inspiration for this.
I can only imagine.
"Hey, remember back in CT when Crono's cat, or cats if the player got more of them, would jump into the gate followed by Crono's mother? Well, listen to this..."
-
See what square did with FF7R? I mean yes full game still making but... There are already some bad news from development.
1. More action oriented. You need Chrono action-RPG? I don't.
2. Episodes. You need episode Chrono game?
3. Overall quality of last games.
-
More news (https://gematsu.com/2019/01/another-eden-the-cat-beyond-time-and-space-launches-january-28-in-the-us-canada-australia-and-asia): The game will be launching in the west later this month. It's already up on the Google Play store for a pre-registration bonus.
Hopefully the game is enjoyable. It's supposed to be a "single-player large-scale RPG", so I'm really hoping the gacha aspect of so many mobile games will be downplayed or even nonexistent.
-
Yeah... a Western Release...
Guess I'll have to wait for Latin America's release...
Also, the frog guy's name is Cyrus? Really subtle there, guys...
-
Hm, yeah. No release for Latin America yet... And Kato really does seem to be reusing ideas here.
-
Kotaku's review is actually almost encouraging. Did anyone end up trying this out?

I played through the first chapter. I am enjoying it so far, and the nods to the Chrono series are nice. But the music is my favorite. While pleasant overall (except for the battles, which are jarring being random), some songs that I heard are really beautiful. The music of the first town Baruoki (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1x7Su0pJJD4&index=4&list=PLDqvF39VbBUJThxq4_b7zUz2oQs2e8vQy) is heavily reminiscent of the Millennial Fair. And when I first reached the Nuaru Uplands (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YfxFNPDmmzk&index=5&list=PLDqvF39VbBUJThxq4_b7zUz2oQs2e8vQy), I actually had to stop and just listen. I was getting serious vibes of "Fields of Time" with a heavy dose of Xenogears. I'm excited to hear more.
Also, it's Lucca!

Ashtear? Wow, how subtle...

Hmmm, I think I'm going to this out after Cross symphonic is settled!

Lucca! I'm digging her new outfit!

Heh, Ashtear, huh. Not even being subtle.
I suppose I could give this game a try once it's available in my region. Whenever that happens.
-
Welp, I downloaded it. Have yet to fire it up, though.

Same. Haha
-
played a little of it, the touch-screen controls are a little frustrating, but that's to be expected. Mostly just wandered around town turning the blue lights on while little sis yaps on and on.
Meanwhile...
Lucca: blah blah blah elements activate this and that something different colored crystals we can't tie our shoes without them blah blah blah

You make it sounds so interesting! You should go into advertising 8)
-
Dammit, guess I'll wait until they port this. They have ported phone games right? Damn Lucca, fourth cameo.
-
I mean, Chrono Trigger on Steam is really the iOS game ported, right? But it will be dependent on popularity!
I want to download this. But it is extremely slow. Can someone let me know how big "Full" is when it is downloaded and ready to play?
-

Port phone games to something like a console or PC? Yep, they've done it. For games like Another Eden? Much rarer, but it has happened so... who knows. It's a toss-up.
-
There will be a port for switch. Keep that in mind.
Right now I'm playing hide and seek with this damned kid. I found him once in some tall grass, but he evades me otherwise.
-
What the fuck? XD

Woah o.m.g. that looks familiar for some reason hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
I wonder what it will be like for those who are first familiar with this game, and find the Chrono series in the future!
-
Hilariously enough... I recall a fandom friend from years back had a crack theory that CT Frog was secretly CT Cyrus.

So what did they think happened to CT Glenn if Cyrus=Frog?

Well, according to them, Glenn/Frog/Cyrus were the same person. So Frog's memories were so obviously faked. (Mind you, this theory wasn't meant to be taken seriously at all.)

Just installed and started playing. Sounds interesting.
Just so you know, there are a lot of Android emulators available, if you want to play it on PC.
-
Know any good emulators? I've had bad luck with them.
-
It's been a few years since I used an emulator, so dont know the current ones. Consensus on Reddit seems to be that Bluestacks is quite good. Nox seems to send your info to China, so dont use that.
I've been really liking the game currently! It's very story driven, but also has an interesting (but simple) combat system. It might be a bit slow-paced during dialogue, but I dont mind since the stories are fun and interesting. Music is of course great!
Some slight spoilers on the setting: The time eras seem to be 300AD, 1100AD and Antiquity (still dont know the exact year for Antiquity). 0AD is depicted to be the start of some kingdom. Ashtear resides in 300AD. I dont know whether she's Lucca, her ancestor/descendant or just fan service.
I see the setting as a sort of opposite to the Chrono world. Main character uses a sword, while "Cyrus" the frog man uses a Katana (Opposite of Crono and Frog). The world in the future is floating in Another Eden (12,000BC in Chrono), while the Antiquity in AE seems well-being and civilizationally stable (like 1999AD in Chrono). Main characters are a brother and sister, so I think that theme is also similar to Chrono series. There is also a demi-human race called the Beasts in 300AD, that are angry at humans.
I wouldnt mind a Another Eden subforum, where one could analyse the connections, stories and fan service in AE in comparison to Chrono.
-
Ye gods. The game sounds amazing.
I second the subforum.
-
Yea I think its very good. The difficulty after first few chapters is also quite challenging, not your basic "overlevel and 1-hit everything" type game.
A few teaser screens...

HEh, how cute, there's even a bucket in totally-not-End-of-Time.
Wait, why did only now this showed up in the "unread posts since last visit" list... unless that was just me...
-
Only just showed up for me too.
Subtlety is apparently not known to Kato lol
-
Found a recent interview about the game:
https://twinfinite.net/2019/04/another-eden-interview/ (https://twinfinite.net/2019/04/another-eden-interview/)
I found as a highlight the question about other ports other than the planned Switch one. Hopefully it does happen.
-
Subtlety is apparently not known to Kato lol
Amen to that.
-
Gacha element: Minimal
Premium currency: Plentiful
Stamina gauge: Non-existent
Wow we just might have a GOOD RPG on mobile for once! 👀👀👀
-
Just listen to this new music from the just released episode (yes, there are content updates!): https://youtu.be/5lSN1p-VnjY (https://youtu.be/5lSN1p-VnjY)
-
Whoo! :o Finally started playing this after two months of having the app on my phone. Pretty solid game so far, very enjoyable. I am falling into the "need to grind" mode but I'm happy they've created harder modes of dungeons and that I can use the gauge to finish off bosses quickly.
I should probably have more than 10 members in my party though. But stuff is so expensive, lol (more battles, I guess).

I love this game soooooo much. It's been a really long time since I've enjoyed a game as much as this one. Now that things are starting to settle down, I'll finally have some time to play!
