I just found this thing... posted on a brazilian gaming community (http://www.gamevicio.com/i/noticias/223/223005-square-enix-produtora-planeja-trazer-varias-franquias-classicas-para-os-consoles-da-geracao-atual/index.html (http://www.gamevicio.com/i/noticias/223/223005-square-enix-produtora-planeja-trazer-varias-franquias-classicas-para-os-consoles-da-geracao-atual/index.html))... what you guys think?

Let's get milking

Back at E3 this year, Square Enix announced probably the most-requested remake from the company's back catalog, a remake of Final Fantasy VII. According to a recently released annual report, Final Fantasy VII is just the start of a future in which the company plans to remake a bunch of its older games.

Interestingly, Square Enix also discusses new ways of revitalising those old titles for new audiences, singling out the idea of adding VR support to remakes of old games. So, which Square Enix games would you like to stick your face directly inside?

Second, a admin for a "sister" facebook page (about Marcy) of mine told me he has a friend working at Square, and she told him they going to remake ALL the games of Chrono Series (including Radical Dreamers)...

I don't like rumors, so i decided to post here to verify if this would be a hoax or not.

Seems like Square Enix is serious. However, I wouldn't get my hopes up just yet. There's no way of knowing if the Chrono series is even on their radar until they explicitly say so. Personally, I wouldn't think Chrono Trigger needs a remake; likewise, I wouldn't think Chrono Cross deserves a remake (though it probably needs one). These are simply my opinions, however. I still would love to see more revitalization of the series by Square Enix.

Never trust rumors from someone who "knows a guy" in a company. Nearly every single time the rumor is untrue. Again, I would love for such a rumor to be true, but there's currently no basis for it.

Also, and this may just be my interpretation of that annual report, but does this "revitalizing existing IPs" not include new additions to those series, such as sequels?

Since Chrono Cross is something of a train wreck where plot is concerned, not to mention the fact that the game is 16 years (and three console generations) old, I think it is far more likely that we will see a remake of one or both Chrono games instead of a direct sequel to the originals.  That would give the developers the flexibility they need to make the full story originally conceived by Masato Kato, and have it make sense.

Still, I don't expect this to happen anytime soon, nor should it.  Square-Enix has a lot on their plate right now, and it's in every fan's interest that these projects have full corporate support and not be degraded in quality because they were taking on too many projects.  We would want similar dedication and focus on Chrono if and when they decide to do it.

How well the Final Fantasy VII Remake does may determine whether Chrono comes back or not.  Doors might also open once development on Final Fantasy XV is finished, you never know.

They're talking about I am Setsuna as a spiritual successor. I wonder how they'll interpret the reaction to that game relative to interest in the Chrono series.
