Title: Check Here for Latest Rom
Post by: Agent 12 on June 03, 2006, 07:38:29 am
And with June we begin out voyage back into the game.  I spent most of the last couple days outlining what we got left, and though it's alot (and will probably grow), there's definately a light at the end of the tunnel.  We also are getting help all over, JossiRossi has said that he'd work on a Dinopolis overworld (dinopolis will probably be the biggest task we have), DDK is gunna work on Zeal, Chrono 99 is doing ....everything as usual haha, JLukas is working on the corruption, Chickenlump's menu thing is being implemented (I made the one Chrono 99 showed me but Chickens is MUCH better in that thread).

So anyways below is a beta beta version of the Mystic rebellion chapter, I didn't quite get to finish cause it got really late much faster then I realized.  Use the debug room to go to the Post Demo 2 (chancellor), run through Ocean Palace Ruins, go back, talk to the gang, talk to frog, go to sandorino plains, it's the desert West of San Dorino it has a name that needs to be changed (we should probalby make it less desert too), Fight int he plains, run through the tunnels (I have 2 rooms that need to be added), Fight Serran, and Finally go make the mystic/porre/nothing decision that's as far as I got.

I'm thinking Frog should be forced in party for this and got to lazy to look it up so I'm asking Kajar for help since someone may have done it.  In other news Chrono 99's ferry and His version of Chickenlumps Menu tutorial thingy is also on this patch.  Red is a pretty cool looking background and the ferry will definately make fans smile.

Comments most definately welcome, and check out the maps thread if ya wanna clean up.

OH yea can someone check on why I can't sticky/unsticky, we need to clean this place up.

EDIT:  I guess the patch might be useful

Let me introduce you guys to happy rom.  This rom has a sunkeep AND a king zeal props to Jlukas.  It also has the alpha version up to getting back to Zeal at night.  Soon DDK should be giving me Zeal at night locations which he has been working on so I'll put those in.  Then I'll work on the crucial decision which will bring us to Dinopolis which JossiRossi should be working on.  Until Jossi Rossi finishes that up I'll work on updating 600 and 1002 locations.

Till then I'm gunna look at the known bugs thread  and see what I can do.

Hm the last patch lost data for one of the rooms (sigh, double sigh)

In the future, if you can catch this in the act, it would be a huge help to solving it for a TF bug fix.  Specifically, for example, if you have a before.ips, and the directions for what you did exactly afterwards, like deleted Object08 from event in Location 005.
Title: Re: Check Here for Latest Rom
Post by: Agent 12 on June 07, 2006, 10:41:43 am
It usually happens after doing quite a bit....and here's the weird part (which I sound stupid saying cause it seems wrong), it seems to happen by closing TF.  Like if I'm editing something and I open Zsnes and test it it works fine.   But then I close TF and all of a sudden all the events blank out.  So I dont konw if it was the very last thing I did before closing TF or the first thing I did after opening TF.

Does Temporal Flux do something to the ROM after you close it?  Cause that could be a part of the problem, obviously there's something else or I would have strangled something by now.

Also if you want another bug, editing a location seems to reset that locations music, not a big deal when I'm focusing on one location cause I just make music the last t hing I do.  but I just went and did bug fixes which involved about 8 locations and it looks like every location I edited has "Silence" as the music now.  Not a big deal but if it's an easy fix it wouldn't hurt.

If magus could talk he's probably be pretty pissed about this patch...that's right thanks to JLukas (yet again) we now have a non powerhouse magus.  He'll have to level up just like the rest of us.

I also added beta last two locations in the mystic tunnel, and cleaned up a little bit of code.

Everyone, don't forget about the map thread, Sprites, and enemy AI work that were going to be needing.

Here's a Rom w/ JLukas stat fix.  I also made it so the meeting between King Guardia and the Medina Elder is taking place after the Mystic Rebellion in 600 AD.  It basically uses copy tiles to put a big table in Medina Square and get rid of the tables/picnic cloth.

Alrighty I went ahead and put in Chrono 99's Zeal,  no visible corruption so far.  I also put the hangar in Chronopolis so that 4th door isn't just for show anymore.  Hm now that I think about it I'm gunna have to make it inaccessible till they actually get the epoch.....damn I'll do that tonight.

But if you wanna see final Zeal and the hangar go ahead and take a look.

I've talked to DDK and he says he's busy and that's why Zeal hasn't been done.  I may end up doing it myself I'll give him a little more time.

Changes so far (Not mainplot/Storywise):

King Zeal Sprite
Stat Fixed
Sun Stone Fix
Ferry Cut Scene
Added Hangar Map
New Text Windows
Epoch Text Fixed
Many Bug Fixes

Alrighty I finished up Zeal at night if anyone wants to give me and complains/suggestions go ahead and take a look.  This weekend I'll do the Chronopolis scene and then work on the crucial decision scene.  Unless someone else wants to do it.  I was thinking Belthasar takes his notes and it does a scene with all the monitors in the building going on and the "typing" noise.  Then it cuts to Robo and Belthasar in the top room and Robo saying he found him at 65 MIL crater.

After these scenes are done it's off to the beta tester to give me work to do while JossiRossi makes us a Dinopolis.

Anyways here's the Patch of the day.

Alrighty here's the patch I want to be beta tested (Mainly talking to cyber but anyone can do it).

Note:  You can't die from any battle, so don't report walking dead bodies or anything.
 Don't report problems with maps
Don't report there being "no music" in a room, this is some weird side affect of TF, but do report if you think a certain sound effect/song fits well.

The coding should be done up till the crucial decision here's a short walk through for all the new stuff

Debug room
Go through and out ocean palace
Recruit Glenn at 600 AD castle
Go to plains west of San Dorino
Go through tunnel
Go in south east forest
make choice
Depending on choice you may have to go to Cathedral to recruit Glenn
Go to chronopolis
talk to Magus w/ Frog in party
Ride Zeal teleporter that goes from main continent to Kajar Continent 8 times
Go in Belthasars Lab in Enhasa (check book on desk)
Watch Chronopolis cut scene
Go to 65 MIL crater.

phew, got more done than I thought I did.  Anyways post suggestions AND bugs please.  I can take criticism and will do whatever I can to make a happy.  Have fun I'm going to focus on Terra tower for awhile while.  Keep up the hard work everyone.

Edit:  See how rough we have it when you aren't here CL...haha.  I attached the patch now.

psst... attatch the patch... :D

I'll make my modifications to this ROM once it's uploaded. :)

Excellent, I'll have a few menu tweaks and King Zeal's AI uploaded as a patch with this current ROM sometime later tonight.

Um maybe why I didn't get any feedback was because the patch I gave was corrupt.  Here's the same ROM as above but with CL's Zeal.

EDIT:  Chronopolis Elevator may have been corrupt on last post I fixed it.

EDIT Again:  Ha, stupid me I was editing a map in two different locations but it was the same map......ugh I feel dumb.  This patch for real should be good.

New Patch availible:

Fixed some of Cyber's found bugs.  I've also messed around with the"brighten" command and...I thnk I made Zeal brighter, giive me some feedback on that cause apparently my computer is alot brighter than other peoples cause it was fine for me.

I also coded the first floor of Terra Tower so you can go ahead and look at that (talk to schala in the debug room).  All the exits should be there cept the one on the 4th floor. Only first floor is coded so no other switches will work.  If you want to explore the whole thing you have to walk through the wall right at the entrance , middle rightish of the wall right in front of you.

Alrighty I got it so we can use 65 MIL tiles on the other overworlds now.  It took a little hex editing.  I made a really quick test map and that's where you go after attempting to save Ayla now.  It replaced the "Dark ages" overworld.  So if anyone wants to clean up that Overworld go right ahead.  Until that's done I'll use that as a dummy overworld.  If you are going to clean it up try to put the "reptite" area on the North instead of South since our OW sprite has the entrance on the bottom so you want to enter FROM the south.

In other news the Kilwala Music revolution has begun.  And I must say I'm impressed.  I put in Keeper's Dome and Atlus.  To test it go to debug room and talk to schala.  First you'll be treated to "Keeper's Dome", I have no idea why they didn't keep this in the final release.

If you go up the stairs on the left you'll hear Atlus.  It takes awhile to get going but it was very impressive.  It willl be Terra Tower's song.  It replaced Tyran Lair.

Remember keep the songs were using a secret cause this'll be a shocker to everyone.

EDIT:  This patch lost the last Village OW, it is no longer official patch I have a backup that I'll upload tonight

Alrighty,

Until I can get some more answers were gunna have to go with the "winter" excuse for 1 1AD.

Update time:  I fixed Dark ages so it uses it's old tileset, thus fixing last village.  Future is still 65 MIL tile set.  I have 4 locations that I've inserted.  The tents are a copy paste of the last village tents Chrono 99 made, I edited "Cedric Guardia's" tents but the others will still need to be moved around.  I also made a location for Marle to wake up in, it's from Death peak with a few more trees and shrubs around.  I'll add all these to the Map thread, as long as the OW, which needs work more than anything else.......i hate hate hate coast lines, so damn tedious.

On a more well done note, the maps that Nightmare made have been patched, though I need to add an exit for Toma's Shrine,  but the Porre camp insides can be seen in ROM.

Update O the Day:

I have gotten alot of code done for Marle's Reptite Timeline Story.  There's some scenes that I think came out pretty good.  If you want to check out just today's update go to the debug room and talk to Schala, she'll now take you to Marle's story instead of TT (since TT can now be accessed on the Overworld for Marle).

I also put Nightmare's Toma Shrine in the game in the house next to Choras Ferry.  I haven't put any NPC's in it yet though.  Also there was a tile that was going over Crono's head I changed the priority, hopefully it didn't ruin another map but keep an eye out just in case.

I'm thinking we're going to want a couple small maps between Marle waking up in the mountain and actually getting to the Overworld (think 65 MIL mountain path).

Happy 4th everybody.  I've decided to go ahead and use all these graphics patches so here's what you can now see in the ROM (I have a backup just in case something goes horribly wrong).

1.  Frozen Flame
2.  Chrono 99's terra Tower......I picked a pallette that looked "icy" .....it doesn't really do it justice though
3.  Lebniz
4.  Vision Serpant
5.  Flute

I haven't added them in main plot yet but you can see them all on the first floor of TT.  Use Schala to start Marle's Reptite Timeline and then TT is the lower left.  Vision Serpant has a small glitch if you go off the screen from her so we'll have to tweak the plot so that you can't move to much, but they all look great.  I'll add the flute after they solve the singing Mountain puzzle, and the frozen flame above King Zeal during the Crucial Decision.

In other news I made a short map between Marle waking up and getting to the OW.  The enemies are fightable but you can just lose to them.  I still need to add the treasurechests and a little sound effect for when the enemies jump.  I also tried out adding animations while they walk.....I think it turned out pretty good but if yout hink it's corny speak up and I'll remove them.

Anyways that map certainly needs work so I'll add it to the maps thread.  Next up for me is adding enemies to Terra Tower, but for now it's fireworks time.

I've finished up my work for the most part improving the following maps:

Location
------------------
{157} - CE - Vanguard Dungeon (Present)   (I've improved the overall look of the dungeon, detailing shadows, fixing tile errors, etc)
{176} - CE - Cathedral Back Room (Present)   (Added detail to the room to make it appear less bland)
{1BB} - CE - Catheral Foyer (Present)   (Added minor detail. Fixed some solidity issues)
{1BC} - CE - Vanguard Courtyard (Present)   (Added massive detail. Enclosed the map edges)
{1C2} - CE - Vanguard Post Lobby (Present)   (Added detail, shadows, fixed/added solidity. The tile below the guard blocking the entrance has been left walkable for debug purposes of the Vanguard maps)
{1C3} - CE - Vanguard Study (Present)   (Added detail)

Overworld
------------------
{0} - Present   (Added detail to Manoria Cathedral/Vanguard regions. Added massive detail to Porre region (paths) to give a more militaristic feel)

Current issues with these maps:

1: Priority issues for tiles in the following
  -{157} - CE - Vanguard Dungeon (Present)
-{176} - CE - Cathedral Back Room (Present)
  -{1BC} - CE - Vanguard Courtyard (Present)
-{1C2} - CE - Vanguard Post Lobby (Present)
  -{1C3} - CE - Vanguard Study (Present)

2: Music is not playing on a few maps. I've gone through and added music back to a few that I noticed, but not all. Of particular mention are the following (Note: This may not be all of the affected maps)
-{0} - Present, the music transition from wilderness > Porre doesn't play any music for its region.
-{Various} Porre music does not play inside any of its buildings, except for the Snail Stop.

3: The default menu appearance is red instead of grey. (Intentional?)

Note: This is the first IPS file I have compiled. As such it is wise to make a back-up of your current ROM in case I have messed up.

Added Nightmare's 600 AD vanguard (not NPC's yet though)
Put Chrono 99's Frozen Flame in the crucial decision scene

Kae, you can use this patch to continue cleaning up the maps.

Zeality (if you're back from vacation) can you add Vehek to the team, he has said that he will continue research on techs in hopes that eventually we can have atleast somewhat custom techs.

Sorry to hear that Kae, I'm sure everything will work out.

Here's a patch update:

Something horribly horrible happened to San Dorino Plains so I imported an old map for it, besides that I have begun transferring the dialogues from the newfangled Dialogue thread to the rom.  It's slow but steady.

That being said since I work a whole awful lot if someone wants to grab the ROM and import some text feel free, just make a post so I don't end up doing work that I need to redo.

Boy howdy that's a lot of fricken text.

I've done up to Zeal, and got everything but enhasa finished in the text revolution.

I'd finish today but I'm camping.  Anyways if someone wants ton continue the work just transfer text that isn't red in Zeality's Dialogue thread in the plot board.  I didn't get around to populating his new enhasa room with NPC's but it's a copy paste of the NPC's in enhasa.

But anyways if you wanna take her for a spin you'll notice all new dialogue from demo 2 till the right before finding notes.  A nice populated 602 Vanguard, and new NPC text after Frog joins your party.

*Faints*

*gets back up*

Got another one of Zeality's post back.  All that left is the crucial decision and if Zeality gets to it Marle text.  Then I'll actually get to add new stuff to the rom (whoo).

Anyways this rom has some text that literally made me laugh (it involves dalton).

New stuff:

Now to solve the riddle just talk to the Nu in Kajar's back room twice (eventually we'll put Chrono 99's awesome epoch name screen here), then hit the book in front of the enhasa secret lab
Dalton Scene after getting notes
Long scene explaining history of the flame after leaving Zeal

Just wondering, the line breaks seem to have died for the Chronopolis speech when you bring Glenn back. I liked how Lavos stands up when he appears. But the music that plays at the end of that should be Lavos's theme instead of Brink of TIme. Also, I had Robo, Magus, and Marle in my party when Belthasar activated the search for the Flame. After analyzing it and telling the party to go to prehistory, Marle ran out of the room and I couldn't move the others.

Music:

Easy enough I'll fix it.

Line breaks:

Ugh, it looks like it was to long so it cut it off (I think that's what you're talking about)

Robo Freeze:

Whoops forgot you can't call "Party follow" from within a party members arbitrary.  it's fixed.

K, fixed those bugs and added the critical decision text in too.

Go ahead and go through....I realize that there's some glitched text but I just wanted to atleast get it in there.  I fixed it if it was overrunning to the left but didn't fix when small parts of letters dissapeared.

Also remember that for some reason TF changes the music to silence, I haven't fixed that in alot of rooms simply because it's annoying as hell to fix it, then come back and edit again later and it break again..  I'll do a mass music/ small text glitch fix later.

For now I've caught up to Zeality on text so next thing I'll do is code that forest.  For now enjoy those nice new text that Zeality has written.  Tell me if there's any more critical bugs/scene whines.

Added more dialogu.........nope just kidding.

Fixed alot of Cyber's bugs (Even Ferry.....whooo!).  Forgot to fix the way they face when they enter the dungeon though, whoops.  I also got most of the forest done.  YOu can atleast follow the right path to get out.  So go to Marle's area, walk to the forest in the south west (I haven't put an exit name but go to the dip in the forest and activate it and you should enter it), then follow the Goldeneye Golden gun code (it's in the Marle idea thread, I forgot it at the moment).  If you go the right directions you should end up on the other side of the forest.  Neat stuff.

K, fixed some bugs and finished off 1 AD.

Reptite Forest should be done now, the three "important areas" are all found in the last room.  If you go right you get to the "spies" if you go left you find the girl that Cedric asks you to go find.  And going up you get to TT.  I also added the final scene, so Marle looks out the window and sees cedric get trapped.

I also added a captured human in TT that Marle can help though I haven't put him back in the town after you capture him.  However I did set a bit to we can reward Marle somehow if we want.

Finally, before Cedric gives Marle the key to TT he asks her to to rescue the girl.  So just go through reptite forest but go left instead of up at the top now. . The girl is there.  Then go back to Cedric and he gives her the key so she can go through terra tower.

Looks like it's time to start working on the 1999 AD Reptite plot......playable 1999 here we come.

Alrighty moving right along........I made a new person in the debug room it's Janus he's south of all the other people.  He'll take you to right after the 1 AD Marle Reptite Events.

Our team members wake up in a Reptite version of Truce canyon (thanks to Nightmare)
They then go out to a new OW that will definately need to be cleaned up (1 AD's needs to be cleaned up to)
There's quite a few new places to visit all which can be cleaned up (they aren't populated yet)
But at the main meeting spot there's a part that I think came out fricken awesome.  If you go in there and talk to the Azala Sprite (his name currently is Lazaa) you'll get to see the coded strength contest.  I think it came out pretty sweet.  Check it out.

Finally kudos to Crono 99 for cleaning up all the Singing Mountain caves AND making the Nu Riddle in Kajar.

Note:  Nightmare we'll put in the medic center once we get to the 1999 part because we'll be using that OW for chronopolis.

Just posting some scene whines.

First confrontation:

-After the screen fades, cut the music and play long explosion and any other catastrophic sound effects you can add on top of it through simultaneous stuff. 4 seconds total.
-Cut to pure silence for 3 second. Then make the transition.

Marle thing:

-Since no Zeal, Cedric won't have a pendant sadly.
Title: Re: Check Here for Latest Rom
Post by: Agent 12 on August 06, 2006, 02:28:39 am
phew......long day there.

I cleaned up reptite forest a little.  Also, A large chunk of 1002 AD is done here (beta).  I populated all those locations I mentioned earlier and now you can go farther along in plot.

--talk to Janus in Debug room
--Wake up go through truce canyon (with right priorities courtesy of Chrono 99)
--win strength competition
--talk to Lazaa in his cave
--go to TT
--Beat Zalaa
--climb up through 4th floor of TT

I stopped there I'm going to make a series of fights in that room.

Now here's an issue.......

Cyber's save from earlier for some reason has a memory address written to (7f0060)......hopefully this is a fluke but we well......maybe I messed up.  If someone could go through the whole game making sure they open every chest it would help.  You know if 7f0060 is written to if you don't start in a room with 2 NPC's for reptite forest (with Marle).

EDIT:  NM I found it....it was the Zeal riddle I had it using the same address.  I've fixed it in the latest patch sorry for the inconvenience haha...you should be able to play normal up to crucial decision then after that start a new game with the debug room.  Also I forgot to mentoin that Chrono 99 put in his riddle maker so now instead of just talking to the Nu twice you have to talk to him and put in KAJAR for the answer.  (I know the answer doesn't make sense).  Anywhos tomorrow's patch will fixe the reptite forest glitch.

finished beta version of 1002 Ad.  Lots of fights in that top level of Terra Tower.  I also went ahead and changed the points of son of sun and son of sun's flame to Azalas.  We can change em later if we want.

So it turned out that suddenly 1999 was corrupted......by  going to a back up (hurray for backups) I found that my last backup was good.....what did I do between those two patches......put in the new Azalas.  So I exported the events and such and everything is all good now (HUGE sigh of relief).  Anyways that was my last attempt at ever ever ever doing something graphics related.  haha.  Though........it did work it just hurt something else..  So if someone can make the new Azala's for me that'd be awesome (I really think we should get someone who knows the pointers better to work on it, Chrono Tweaker...DID work...).

Anywhos as a special treat to make this patch atleast slightly updated I added the Chronopolis OW whoo.  The old Coliseum exit will take you to the overworld.  You can go to the medical center or the coliseum.  Note that the OW still needs some work not drawing wise just making it so you don't walk on top of certain parts.

Yeah, the project has made tons of progress since July. I'm gone (again) for the next few days, but when I get back I'll assist in any way I can. Hell, reading up on all the topics I missed will take a day on its own.

I just downloaded the latest patch, added it to my rom, and now temporal flux Doesn't read the rom as chrono trigger, and won't load it up.

I just verified that it does work still.  Try getting a fresh rom and try again.  Remember the patch has to be applied to an unheadered rom.

Well I realized I forgot about the unheadered part (last time TF just unheadered the rom for me). It made some progress, but now it still won't load.
I'm going to go find a different rom and try again.
for some reason it can't decompress the events.

Since I can't get temporal flux to load it right now for some reason, I'm going to start playing through the rom. Then try to load it again later.

OK, I took a crack at the many many bugs that were reported.  Red means that I fixed it blue means that I wanted someone else to look at it (mapping or text), teal means I may be worried about it or more needs to be done.  I did fix alot of them though.  But since I'm going to be gone for so long if someone else may want to go through and clean up on it.  However.....I only want Chrono 99 or Zeality to be allowed to work on the Master rom (this patch) no offense I'm just haven't seen anyone else really work with the event coding here.

This patch also has Chrono 99's gryphon tank and baby in it, though the baby is not in game yet, just patched on.

Finally there could be a major issue with the masamune I'm going to put it in corruption investigation.  I think adding some graphic may have done it.

Hurray for beta testers.  Maelstrom playing through the rom noticed something major......the caves in Singing mountain dissapeared......ouch huh?

So backwards we go, luckily I back up quite a bit.  I assumed this was due to one of the many graphics I imported but it doesn't seem that's the case I I reimported them successfully......it musst have been me (hangs head).  Anyways as you guys know I'm moving so unfortunately the bazillion bugs are back, if Chrono 99 or Zeality want to fix them (none of them were anything to complicated, remember I only fixed the "red" ones) go ahead otherwise I'll redo it all once I get back.  Anyways this patch does have

Tank
Baby
Belthasar replacing gaspar in change character screen.

OR, if you guys can figure out what in the holy hell happened to the caves go ahead and try to fix the patch above this one.  I'm afraid It might be bad though....If I had to guess I'd say I applied a patch to a headered Rom (i had to reapply it for Justin's patch maybe I forgot to unheader it before tank?).

And since I'm ranting anyways Zeality did a great job redoing the maps but they still need to be fixed up propertiy wise (I noticed when none of the exits were working and freaked out but it was just the tiles weren't "exit tiles") so if someone wants to do that go ahead.

And last but  certainly not least, for the new guys, don't forget about the "debug room" this can be accessed by pressing abxy on Crono Fridge (might take a couple tries).

I fixed some of the old bugs that ended up coming back due to corruption in the Singing Mtn Cave.

I also put together what'll be the new puzzle in the Robot Factory.  The puzzle will use the three switches, the first switch "swaps" the first and second" treadmills, the 2nd swaps the "second and third" treadmills and the 3rd swaps the "fourth and first" treadmills.  Swapping a treadmill moves thhe barrel to whatever side you make the treadmill go to so you have to maneuver the switches in order to get the barrels to the right side and open up your path to the end.

To check it out talk to belthasar in the debug room go up the ladder to the 1999 map and then go to the robot factory (right side of the map) there' is a exit that doesn't so up but if you press A you should be able to get in.

Alrighty I did the last switch.  So here's the conveyer puzzle for your enjoyment.

To get through the easy way just hit switch 3, 5 and then 6.  You should then be able to walk accross the belts to the goal area.

*yawn*

Looks around.......well there was alot of progress on the Glenn thread while I was gone haha.

As for our dactyl problem, Chrono 99's solution (as usual) is great.

Replace tyrano lair for 65 MIL, black omen for 12,000 (reptite 1 AD) and well there's blanks in the 1999 map.

I know there's alot of bugs to be redone, I've asked Janus Zeal to go through and make a nice organized bug list for me.  At this point I might actually prefer it sorted by bug type (text, plot, mapping, coding).

Oh well full speed ahead!

i got a nice email today from jlukas and he has released a patch fixing our 1999 problems.  So we can make it so we don't walk through walls anymore whoo.

I also made 2 rooms for our Robot rebellion center.  I was hoping for some maps to be made when I got back but I'll start working on a quick robot Factory.

And guys......give me some props on the conveyer puzzle it looks AWESOME.  Seriously take a look at it maybe y'all couldn't find it.

Talk to Belthasar in the debug room, climb the ladder then go to the dome in the lower left (no name comes up but just walk up and press A.

Then you can start messing around with the belts with the switches....to just walk through hit switch 3, 5 and 6.

Okay, I'm releasing a new patch for the 1999 AD Reptite tileset. Also with the development slowing down a bit, I guess the best thing to do for me is to refine the necessary maps. In this patch, the Millenial Fair maps and NPCs are improved to better fill all the space, and I tweaked Singing Mountain too (that one was fabulous but I believe everything can always be improved). I'm probably going to continue tweaking all the maps I can...

With advice and tips from jsondag, I revamped the Singing Mt puzzle as it was a bit unnatural and maybe similar to the Dalton dungeon "quizz" puzzle. It's now quite different, you still have to find instrument pieces but the puzzle consists in reproducing a musical sequence by drumming the instrument: 3 buttons, 3 notes (or recycled sound effects, rather). I really think it came out nice, so comments are mandat... are welcome!

I also tweaked events a bit in the Prehistory era (adding facings, animations, etc.).

Edit: Also when you find the Reptite after the puzzle, do speak to him twice... *grin*

Mmh, no feedback for my dear drumming puzzle :(

Anyway, I continue polishing stuff in the ROM. In this patch, I've revamped everything that needed revamping from the beginning up to the battle against Golem Boss in the Beast Forest.

I basically reviewed ALL the dialogues, not to change any word but to better present them in the textboxes (line breaks, full breaks, etc.). I added character animations whenever it was necessary (Cyborg chase and Dalton's intro are much better). Oh I did add a small line in the Cyborg chase scene actually: Crono blinks at the Time Egg and Marle remarks that yeah, he never saw one since he was dead when they had the previous one.

Some maps are improved, like Porre Square (now has rounded walls), the Cathedral (cool layer3 lights), Beast Forest (more vegetations and as a different path). The Vanguard Post overworld building is now something more military-looking (see attachment 1), and the 11,998 BC map is basically totally remade (though the general layout is kept, see attachment 2).

Overall, the atmosphere comes out more polished and the "hey, it's obviously a hack" effect is less strong... up to Golem Boss.

School will soon finally starts for me, but my (English civilisation) course in the past year has been rather very easy, I'm not sure how busy it will keep me.

I had a little bit of free time today so I started to throw together the robot factory.  There's an entrance, hallway, storage room, hallway to supervisor, supervisor room, core room, worker room and conveyer belt room now.  I added some enemies in there used "proto 4" and reptites.  I also cleaned up an exit that was bad in the robot rebellion place.  To check out take belthasar in debug room, go right ot the factory go to door press A and walk around.....there's probably some bad exits hanging around still hopefully this "little bit of free time" will become more free tim so I can clean up some more.

It's nice having a "clean up coder" now by the way.

I had a version of the rom waiting to be released as a patch, so it looks like we have to merge both versions. Jsondag, could you export the changed stuff in "robotfactorypart1.ips" and import them in a rom that has "RevisedUpToPorreCamp.ips" patched? I would do it but I'm not sure what to import and I don't want to miss something, and it's probably shorter to do it that way than the other way round.

In this patch, I've cleaned the Dalton Dungeon map and added a "force field" around Magus's cell (using the sealed pyramid layer3 tileset). The dungeon has the code trick that makes it appear on the world map only when needed.

-During the scene in Sargon's house that Daniel wrote, instead of moving automatically, Magus can now be moved freely by the player between each textbox. I changed nothing else, this little tweak keeps the impact of the scene while making it more natural.

-The new Chronopolis palette is there, as well as a revised elevator that now visually moves up and down. (Ideally, the Robot Factory should use the original CT "Factory" palette instead of the "Geno Dome" one, or it'll be blue like Chronopolis.)

-I improved the Porre Camp map a lot (it's crazy what can be done with an "indoor" tileset eh?), hopefully it doesn't have that "FF6 look" anymore. It's now a location that appears on the world map too, it appears after the Chancellor mentions it and it's blocked by a guard after the meeting with Montcrief. It's "Porre Camp" because "Porre Encampment" is too long.

-Marle now turns back to let Crono and Lucca walk out of the screen and change their clothes, instead of a ChangeLocation effet. They hopefully move around a bit better in uniforms (still not perfect, but at least they don't dash into the table in Montcrief's room during the dialogue). And there are two sick soldiers instead of one that carries two uniforms.

-Dialogues up to Montcrief are fixed for typos and sentences cut in half.

-Finally, I changed the Gryphon tank's name to "Chimera". As a fan of mythology, I feel ashamed that I mistook the Porre symbol for a Gryphon for quite some time :( (Gryphons have an eagle head, Chimeras can have various heads but have at least one lion head). Someone should replace the dialogue about Porre buying the Dragon Tank to something else about this new tank... I would do it but don't really know what could be said, ehe.

Well, that's it.

k, I merged them.

From now on whenever you do anything to the ROM put it in this topic so the "latest" rom is always availible to be worked on.  Whenever I'm working on the ROM i'll definately be online so you can just IM me if you're worried I'm working on it.

by the way I replayed the game and your improvements are REALLY impressive.  I really like how this is turning out.

I went to play meerged and the game froze after the scene where Chrono and Co. run across the bridge.
I'm plying through from the start to see if this happens again.

Also debug room is still hard to get into putting all keys on the same button doens't even seem to work.
Perhaps a screen with a password to give, or just pressing confirm. Could be an easier way to do it.

This patch is really something new. I've started to write things in a txt file so I don't forget stuff.

The beginning of the game is altered to fit the revised plot outline. The fetch quest is optional, Crono can do the delivery boy by taking the package in his house (the Renault part is kept for later though since the Vanguard don't exist at this time). Since it's optional, you have to seek Lucca in her own house if you want to continue. I altered the meeting a bit to make the Chancellor come late (after the Porreans go in the basement!) and Ingrus be captured instead of killed.

Magus's chapter is mostly the same, except the Elder doesn't die and some texts are altered to show that Magus has weakened etc. He's thrown in a stasis tube.

The cyborg is now seen escaping from Chronopolis. Chronopolis is now unknown from governments, and Mother Brain explains she's the version 2.8 codenamed FATE. The party returns to Denadoro Mts instead of Crono's House, and I'm not sure where the Porre Camp scene can fit in all that (it's skipped for now).

- Still need to be done (if anyone wants to do it):
-- Clean {1B4} Fiona's Forest map (and code)
-- Remove the Muscle Ring chest code in Present Denadoro Mts (it's a chest that isn't in the location event screen)
-- Remove the Naveed chest code in Beast Forest (same)
-- Change the Blackbird riddle in Dalton's Dungeon (the Blackbird didn't exist at the time of Belthasar's predecessor)

You can keep playing after returning to 1002 A.D. in Chapter 2, because it's where I am at the revision (memory flags not readjusted between the beginning and what follows).

...Also, I've repaired the StorylineCounter issues (regarding to the overworlds). It was actually quite simple, we just have to change the value of some If commands in the overworld codes so that Zenan Bridge is not broken, Fiona's Forest is there and the Black Omen not there, etc.

It means we can now correctly show chapter titles in the save menu (instead of a generic "Crimson Echoes"). 7F0050 is kept for what's already coded, but we'll be able to switch to exclusively 7F0000 (the normal storyline counter) later.

We may have to consider shorter chapter titles for this save menu, though.

In about 5 hours, I'll be free for the rest of the week. Whether or not I choose to get some work done ahead of time, I may post a patch tonight for review. Just a question: should I fix the music transitions / instances of silence replacing location music, or should we just leave them until post production?
Title: Re: Check Here for Latest Rom

We should just leave them I guess, it gets a little bit annoying to fix them everytime... We can go back to it when we'll have a finalized list of imported musics.

Hm, we do need to figure that out, don't we? I'll add a list of all music tracks to that new plot thread and we can determine what we don't need. Does anyone know what was already replaced in Terra Tower?
Title: Re: Check Here for Latest Rom
Post by: ZeaLitY on October 18, 2006, 12:39:38 am
The ROM has corrupted twice in my recent editing experiences. Other bugs notwithstanding, it's happening because we went ahead and imported events when transferring ROMs even though TF 2.0's event import has an issue handling strings and causes corruption.

We can continue mapping and making events, as the export function works fine. However, we'll wait until the next Temporal Flux release until importing. It's a pretty important one so I'm sure it's at the top of the pecking order.
