Title: Interesting Pre script discoveries...
Post by: RyogaMasaki on October 29, 2005, 01:21:47 pm
My recent CT pre research has been primarily with the script lately. I found a couple interesting bit recently. First: normally, in Schala's scene where she's speaks to Jacky about the black wind, an attendant informs her the Queen is calling her. In the pre, apparently, it was Dalton:

Quote
Dalton 'The Queen summons you. If you would make your way down to the Undersea Palace...

Of course, Schala doesn't say 'Oh my, who are you?' on her way out in the pre (probably because Dalton would see you if you were standing there).

Another new bit: instead of Dalton summoning the Golem, the Queen does, or at least it just appears. After defeating it, there's a little extra dialogue in the pre:

Quote
Zeal 'I'll leave the rest to you Dalton. I'll head down to the palace. Throw that bunch in the research room.
Zeal 'Let's go, prophet!
Dalton 'Q, Queen!
Dalton 'Meh, whatever! These good for nothings.

The research room, eh? Wonder what that could be. The word she used for researcg room is 'kenkyuu shitsu,' in case you're curious. It's not exactly solid proof that it's the dungeon, but it is a reference to a new place at least...

Here's the text comparison for that scene (at the bottom of the main table): http://ryoga.heypoorplayer.org/chrono/comp06.php
My text dumping and translating continues; hopefully I'll find some more interesting crap soon.

Interesting; I never fathomed we might actually be able to validate these strange removed places with text from the game.

Found another odd thing:

This version ends here.
We will eventually notify you of the next version.
Chrono Trigger
On sale 3/11 1995
Please look forward to it.

It's a demo ending text like the usual ones, only it's very obviously different. It's alot shorter and isn't in the same format as the others. I would suggest it's from an earlier demo. It immediately follows the text for Tata's house and the scenes there. I'm pointing this out because all the other demo endings, text wise, immediately follow where they end. Also note that Tata's house is (normally) broken in the pre. Hmmm...

EDIT: BTW, this was found in text block 22 in the pre (0x3CB0BC - 0x3CBB6C)

Once I get everything up, I'll start a dialogue section in the Prerelease encyclopedia for everything. This really makes me wish RPGOne didn't have to do Dragon Quest 3 before CT. I mean, that's like mixed up priorities...

Tata's house is in the last block of event data, leaving no room for an unpointed section afterwards. :(  However, I have little doubt that room was completed, since the game was finished to about the Tyrano Lair.  Technically, Algetty, and it would be interesting to see that section's translations since unlike the final there's nothing stopping one from entering immediately upon warping to 12000 BC for the first time.

The scene is the "Here's the Hero Medal, some frog guy dropped it in a cafe?", right?  If the demo ends there, it probably began at the Zenan Bridge battle or right afterwards, and made the player complete Denadoro Mts.

If the text really is from an earlier demo, and this demo is the "next version", the very next playable section in the story is the demo Magus Castle.  That would make sense.

The wording of that text sounds very much like a preview version sent to Japanese magazines...

I'll work on Algetty soon then. As for the Tata stuff, yes, it's after his confession in the house. More specifically, immediately after the grandfather's 'My son wants to be a space pilot!' line.
http://ryoga.heypoorplayer.org/chrono/comp22.php (although I actually haven't translated the Tata section yet, I'll do that soon enough, hehe)

I actuallly talked to them recently about working with them on the translation, and was politely told the project was on hold. Oh well. If i had the skill I'd just do it myself. It's actually not that hard; the trouble I have resizing the kanji font to work with English. (I just copied/pasted the font from the US version in the pre, hehe.) Anyone up for our own translation project? =D

Yeah, I complained about that on their forums. I would be gung ho about creating our own Chrono Trigger: Special Edition completely if translation were an easy issue. But Japanese knowledge is like gold dust around here. We're lucky to even have this Prerelease stuff you've made.
Title: Interesting Pre script discoveries...
Post by: RyogaMasaki on November 08, 2005, 08:00:08 am
Hey, just wanted to give the people who are interested in my little project a heads up. It turns out some of the text in the unpointed sections use an older kanji table. This means this unused text is older than the pre (and may point to something new in 65m...), but... because it uses a differen kanji table than what I have, the text is a bit meaningless since the kanji (the Japanese characters that give a word meaning) is random gibberish now. Luckily some of the text that appears in this old format also appears in the final format, and I'm using that to match up as much kanji as I can. Hopefully I'll have results on that soon.

Oh, here's something interesting to chew on: in block 23's unpointed text is an older version of the trial text using that older format. At one point towards the end are three strings reading:

Code: [Select]
--------------------------
だい1だんかい
--------------------------
だい2だんかい
--------------------------
だい3だんかい
--------------------------

'Dai # dankai' basically means '#st/nd/rd Level'. In the part of the pre where it is used (block 1), the three lines are replaced with "有罪多数" (Majority guilty). What does this mean? Dunno. Oh, and originally you waited 7 days for the execution, not 3. Easy to see why they lowered that.

Hopefully I'll have something more interesting later.

I've decided to revive this.
From Text bank 16 on RyogaMasaki's site:
Quote
(魔王)「 装備をはいだか
   ダルトン……。

Current Google Translation:
Quote
(Lucifer) "HAIDA equipment?
Dalton ....
This is one of several Magus lines in the Prerelease's Blackbird text area. Could just be that the developers were confused or something.

Edit-
From bank 14:
Quote

Quote from: Google Translation
Elderly, "a chance only once. RAVOSU caused by the warping of space-time in the most powerful place ...
Death of a mountain butterfly in the mountains with it. (P)
---
However successful or not ...
You逹, (Chrono) as soon as it's feeling.

based on the fact that R and L are the same, and almost all (or all) S' are followed by a U we get
"Lavos" from RAVOSU.

I'M HELPING!!!!
Title: Re: Interesting Pre script discoveries...

Not really. I prefer analysis of how things were then.

In the second line I threw through Google Translate, I think that going to Belthasar/Gasch to learn how to use the Chrono Trigger wasn't in yet.
In another line, Gaspar/Hasch says "Pendant that the hatcher. " instead of telling them to talk to Belthasar (Google Translation of part of Final's line: "Hatcher is the way that when a blade made of a man listening to ....")

This thread'll be revived once the pre script is ready. I'll go ahead and wait for a concentrated effort to extract all the text from the ROM using the old method, since I'm hoping that'll make it easier to post into the dialogue offset Retranslation spreadsheet (with the Japanese column blanked, of course). Then it's a matter of figuring out what's different, removing it, etc.

It seems like Chrono Trigger uses a similar naming system to Final Fantasy VII in that (at least) party characters names are bracketed rather than typed individually.. like {CLOUD} or {AERIS}, for example. Interesting. ^^

I think it's mostly from how the table used to dump the script was formatted.

Wow, I had no idea Glitter was registered on the forums. Now I can confer some kind of special rank for the translation. The value of the work is easily a Guruship thing, so I wonder if Luminaire85 wouldn't mind becoming a Guru of Time emeritus since the Cross hacking is down a bit while other things are being worked on...

Here's what I have so far. I haven't isolated the different or unique lines yet.
Some lines may not be matched up correctly. I rearranged lines in some places to better match the final's text.

Does that include the entire Pre script?
Title: Re: Interesting Pre script discoveries...
Post by: Vehek on January 03, 2009, 03:45:23 am
No. It's only what I've tried to match up with the final's script.

Back in 2005, Ryogamasaki dumped the pre's script, though sometimes it's poorly divided into blocks. (Guardia castle's stringbanks get separated in the middle of the stringbanks.)
Title: Re: Interesting Pre script discoveries...
Post by: ZeaLitY on January 03, 2009, 03:55:44 am
Wow...do you have a link? Only send if absolutely everything is there, I guess. I'll go ahead and start adding it to the eight-column spreadsheet and matching things up too.

Edit: Okay, found. I'll start adding these. Let me know if you find any Kanji errors or anything to suggest that his text rip wasn't complete.

Edit 2: Wow, no joke...this text is all over the place. I'm going to go ahead and create a text file for Ryoga's dump, which will be added to the site as a base script. Looks like he might not have added the era years, and maybe other stuff...

I don't know Japanese, so I can't really tell without comparing it to my dump or maybe looking it up online.

Here's a list I made a long time ago:
Quote
02-Misc?; Norstein Bekkler's; Tyrano Lair
03-Manoria Cathedral, Dorino, Cursed Woods, Porre
04-New Game demo ending text; a couple Zeal NPCs
05-Zeal NPCs
06-Zeal Palace NPCs; Schala and Jacky's conversation; Golem fight; Prophet sealing the 12000 BC gate
07-Cyrus cutscene, Denadoro Mts cave, Cathedral, etc.
08-Prison, 600 AD Zenan Bridge, Medina, Heckran's Cave, Fiona's Villa, Prison ending text
09-Forest Maze, Laruba Ruins, Algetty
10-Truce, Truce Canyon, 600 AD Truce
11-Lab 16, Lab 32, Proto Dome
12-65000000 BC areas
13-Dactyl Nest
14-Bangor Dome, Trann Dome, Arris Dome, End of Time
15-Magus Castle
16-1999 AD, Epoch, Lavos, Blackbird
17-600 AD Guardia Castle-First arrival
18-600 AD Guardia Castle
19-1000 AD Guardia Castle-Can't enter at beginning/Captured
20-1000 AD Guardia Castle-Escape
21-1000 AD Guardia Castle-Escape pt.2, Post-escape visits
21a-1000 AD Guardia Castle, older version nonsense
22-Gonzales, escaping to the future after the Dragon Tank, 1000 AD Porre, Tata's house, Glenn/Cyrus as children flashback
23-Arris Dome rafters+storage, Keeper's Dome, Sewer, Tyrano Castle end
23a-????, older version of Trial scene

Edit-I'm working on preparing some script dumps to upload.

Edit 2- Done with the dialog packets. I don't think I included the unpointed dialog.

This'll save time. I'll list differences between the text dumps.

Block One

Vehek's text dump has one more line at the end of Text Block 01, which Ryoga puts in Text Block 02:

 マール「いままで……
   言えなかった……

     ……ごめんなさい……[END]

Intentional? I can see how it makes sense, since the next block sort of starts with one of those info strings.

That string is placed at the beginning of block 2 in Ryogamasaki's dump. My text dumps are based off the beginnings and ends of the stringbanks referenced in the pre-release's events.

Gotcha. Your dump is proving superior in various ways. What we don't have (era names, etc.) I'll pull from Temporal Flux.

Speaking of which, the index for Singing Mountain is FB5000. IIRC, this is a pointer, so how do we reverse that to figure out what text block it is? (We'll do this for unidentified dialogue later.)
Title: Re: Interesting Pre script discoveries...
Post by: Vehek on January 03, 2009, 04:26:24 pm
There are no events for Singing Mt. remaining in the pre-release, right?
Looking at the stringbank only works when there's beta event data and not the generic "Only PC-loading code".
That stringbank is just the Cathedral.

The Blackbird's stringbank is not referenced in the pre-release; I just guessed based on the info/debug string.

That line should be at the end of Blackbird.txt...

I find the Blackbird's text to be very interesting in some ways.
Title: Re: Interesting Pre script discoveries...
Post by: ZeaLitY on January 03, 2009, 05:08:00 pm
Okay, got it. Looks like Ryoga found the Blackbird, but mashed inside the Lavos text.

Whew, I'm flying. The text script should be out later today. Then I'll start cutting pieces out of a copy and placing them in the spreadsheet to compare with the final Japanese. Each different case will be marked with a "TRANSLATE" tag, and lines that have no final equivalent will be put in a special section at the end of the spreadsheet.

Edit: For presentation purposes, where would we fit the Blackbird on this table:

Text Block 01     3B0242-3B1F3F   Lucca's House, Fair, Trial, Factory

I guess you could put it with the Lavos text like Ryoga did. The pre's blackbird's text begins around 3C84BB.
Some lines are in different banks in the pre-release. For example, the screaming couple's lines are in the New Game/Truce stringbank and Spekkio's lines are within the End of Time's lines.

Putting together the final pieces from Temporal Flux, now...

TF doesn't display anything for Menu Text, though. But the menu works in-game?
Title: Re: Interesting Pre script discoveries...
Post by: justin3009 on January 03, 2009, 07:50:20 pm
Most of the Menu Text doesn't even exist in the pre-release.

Enter a name, then push the
Start Button.{null} - Doesn't exist

Enemies will attack even
if you're not ready!{null} - Doesn't exist

Take your time to choose
items and fight strategically.{null} - Doesn't exist

Start using
which data?{null} - Doesn't exist

Who'll you
replace?{null} - This one is somewhere but it's not exactly "menu text"

Can't
do that!{null} - Somewhere in there.

Can be used by{null} - Same with this one.

On another note, the beasts in Algetty don't have a random battle event to drag you into it.  You have to get touched by one of the beasts to start a battle.

It opens fine in Wordpad, saved as Unicode text. (Yes, I used Wordpad, because Textpad STILL doesn't have Unicode support.) But see for yourself:

http://chronofan.com/Black/Publications/CTPTD.txt

Whatever. This was only a stepping stone for the spreadsheet, so that's fine.

Edit: Wordpad opens up the original file fine, but when I upload and download the uploaded version and upload it, it's ugly as hell. Is the upload process doing something?

Edit 2: Has to be the upload process. Firefox opens my local copy fine. What the hell...

You know, this stuff is so crazy and all over the place...for the huge spreadsheet, I was adding lines with no Trigger equivalent to a special section, but in retrospect this possibly cuts up scenes.

Okay, so change of plans. We're going to have two sets of spreadsheets.

* PRERELEASE SPREADSHEET

This will be organized according to the order of the Prerelease text offsets. The columns will go:

PRERELEASE JAPANESE >>> PRERELEASE TRANSLATION >>> FINAL JAPANESE >>> KWHAZIT RETRANSLATION

* FINAL CT SCRIPT SPREADSHEET

This will be the final script for the official releases of the game. The columns will go:

WOOLSEY >>> SNES JP >>> CT DS JP >>> SLATTERY >>> KWHAZIT >>> KWHAZIT'S ANNOTATIONS

There we go. This will keep the Prerelease's scenes complete.

That file you attached doesn't work any better.

The "dead end" string in bank 1 is used in the Magic Cave when you try to go out the Zenan side.

Tangent:
I made the table I used to dump the script by taking the Japanese table and altering it by referencing Temporal Flux.

I just recently found out with TF where the "Time Machine get" is used. There's a debug object in the upper left of the Millennial fair that places the Sylbird/Epoch on the OW.

Quote
[Unknown]

 [Young Woman]
 ルッカの発明の事だから
また何か……[END]

 [Young Woman]
 ルッカの発明もたまには…[END]

The "Unknown" is a young woman. The "young woman" lines are assigned to a young man who doesn't exist in the final.

Interesting that this was edited before the final to remove the ッ, which I've seen Deidara use to end his sentences with something like "yeah". It appears in Frog's Cursed Woods lines in the Prerelease.

Edit: Oh, this is just unbelievable. Cyrus says this in the Pre when he attacks Magus:

Zeal is really work-in-progress. The lines resemble their final versions, but they're almost always smaller.

Interestingly, Dalton came and got Schala from her bedroom.

Edit: Okay, that wraps Zeal Palace. Something's different about the battle with Dalton; Queen Zeal is referred to as ZEAL: already and has more lines. Google Language:

  Zeile "after I leave, Dalton.
WARAWA will descend to the temple. He is leaving them in the living room and study HOURIKON. [END]

Zeile "I go, I prophet! [END]

Dalton "daughter, Queen ... ...!? [END]

You DO know that those are the lines Ryoga posted at the beginning of this thread, right?

His theory from back then, "it just appears", is probably wrong, since the Golems don't seem to exist in the pre-release.

Edit: The second round of unpointed text is just insane. I can barely figure out what's what. Perhaps it was written into the ROM using a slightly different table before the Pre's table was finalized? Here's an example of what Google Language is giving:

Festival's negative system, dynamic issue.

TABAN "O, I be!!

TABAN "Hey, Lucca!
Things like, you are wrong positive woman!

TABAN "status Ha!

Here's through Text Block 06a (unpointed) in case anyone wants to try and figure out the story behind those unpointed lines.

Edit: Text Block 07 gets really different in Medina. Seems like the party learned about Magus "creating" Lavos by talking to villagers rather than fighting Heckran.

Can't find equivalents for these in Chrono Trigger:

話す相手といったら、姉のサラ様と、
いつも連れてあるいてる、あのネコくらい。

われらとはちがって、いったい何を見て、
何を聞いてらっしゃることやら……。[END]

三賢者様以外で、魔神器をあつかえるのは

 現在ここにある魔神器を、海底神殿にうつし
ラヴォスより、さらに強大なエネルギーを
えられれば、不老不死も夢ではない。[END]

 三賢者の一人、命の賢者様は、女王の計画に
反対なさってから、姿を見なくなった。
まさか……。[END]

It seems these are from Kingdom Zeal. The first paragraph is probably about Janus(The one who calls Schala elder sister, with a cat beside him. He's different from us, I don't know what he's looking and thinking); the second paragraph says besides the 3 sages, only Schala can handle that Mammon Machine; the third paragraph says after moving the Mammon Machine to the undersea palace where it can make contact with Lavos itself,  it can drain great energy, perhaps even the dream of immortality may become true; the fourth paragraph says one of the 3 sage, the sage of life, who opposed the queen's plan, disappeared.

These sound familiar...

--------------

[Young Woman] Different translation, "besides the 3 sages, only Schala can handle that Mammon Machine" is cut.
Magic strong enough to control the
extraction of energy, is needed to
   control the Mammon Machine.

 [Old Man]
If the Mammon Machine is moved to
the Ocean Palace, we can extract even
   more energy from Lavos.

The ultimate dream of eternal youth
   and life, is now possible!

Oh, almighty Queen, our kingdom of
   Zeal will reign forever!

 [Old Man]
   Melchior, who opposed the Queen's
   plans, has vanished.
You're not thinking what I am, are
   you?

Seems like the party learned about Magus "creating" Lavos by talking to villagers rather than fighting Heckran.
Yeah. The scene I tried to describe in the Medina Square (CTP) article probably involves this dialog.

That line about Janus is probably the rough version of this:
Quote
話し相手といったら、姉のサラ様と
いつも連れてあるいている
あのネコくらいのもの……。
(Woolsey translation: " His only friend, other than his sister, is that stupid cat.")

Quote
タバン「……[END]
Taban says this if you talk to him after he gives Lara the apples.

Do the unpointed lines make any sense?

Quote from: Example

   あ、あんちゃん様も、アブナイぜ。
   とっとと、ズラかんねーと……

It seems like you're in the middle of organizing everything, so if you have something for me to translate, put it somewhere specific so I know what it is I'm working on.

Sure; I'll pass the finished script along in several days, probably.

Man, I COMPLETELY FORGOT about JLukas's event fixes:

http://www.chronocompendium.com/Term/Codes_(CTP)#Location_and_Event_Enable_codes

Can someone make an IPS patch out of those? Come to think of it, JLukas might have been making one at one time. Anyhow, hard-patching the ROM is favorable because then I can explore the locations with Temporal Flux to track down the speakers of certain weird lines.

Now, if I can just remember what I was trying to find in Ioka's events...
Title: Re: Interesting Pre script discoveries...
Post by: Vehek on January 05, 2009, 11:15:03 pm
Just turning the codes into a patch won't be enough in some cases. Ingame, text block 6 starts with the Prophet line ending block 5, throwing all the strings in that bank off when playing the game.

The entirety of Medina and Heckran's cave (except Melchior's) is off.
Title: Re: Interesting Pre script discoveries...
Post by: ZeaLitY on January 05, 2009, 11:40:13 pm
Well, PMed in case he's still making that patch...perhaps we won't have much use for it in this application, but a fixed Prerelease patch that lets you explore at will might be nice down the road. I guess it'd come about when Temporal Flux can edit the Prerelease.

Text Block 08a  3BDE49-3BE4FC  [unpointed] is another totally bizarre block, judging from Google Language. I can safely say that it and the last bizarre text block probably don't use an earlier table, because NPC names appear normal (Gran and Leon speak in that one, IIRC), and too much text seems...well, normal enough. This unpointed text is totally about Guardia, and I can't figure out what's going on. Something about Magus, the Queen, the King...we may just end up having to have these two huge chunks of unpointed text translated straight.

Algetty has some unique lines; mainly, most of the exposition is concentrated in one guy in the elder's room who asks you if you want to hear about Zeal. He makes a reference to the Prophet at some point. The middle of his dialogue matches up with something in the final.

Edit: Man, it feels good to be doing this. It's like old times, when everything was left unexplored and unanalyzed...

Edit 2: JLukas alerted me to something I'd forgotten about TF. Open the Prerelease ROM, hit File > Patches > Beta Events. Problem solved.

That still doesn't solve the problem I mentioned.
Here's a patch that hacks the Medina events to change the stringbank used.

TRANSFOOOORM!

Remember that lost line from the final version? It's originally this:

 ドッペルチェ~ンジ![END] (Dopple chaaange!)

Which appears in Crono's room when you take the Dopple-doll. That's one solved lost line...

Edit: Okay, done with Lab 32 and Proto Dome.

"Dopple chaange" also exists in 1000 AD Guardia Castle. Makes me wonder if the line had to do with the clones/doppel dolls.

Know anything about these too? They appear after the era choices at the End of Time, but I can't seem to find equivalents.

We potentially have a gold mine with the End of Time. If Google Translate is correct, Gaspar outright states that the pendant has to react with the Time Egg to create a distortion; that it has to be done near one of Lavos's space-time distortions; and that Gaspar recognizes Magus from the Ocean Temple (which was later changed to recognizing him as Janus, who "aged quite a bit"). The last two strings also seem to be messages from the developers.

One last thing. Since Temporal Flux doesn't display the credits, how do I get at this:

Quote
In the final, from 0x3DA200h to 0x3DA9FF, there is a block of ASCII text containing the credits. There are a few things that make this odd though. First of all, it is stored as plain ASCII, standard computer encoding, while all the rest of the game uses the encoding unique to the game. More oddness at the end:

THE END.B.C.650000000.A.D.600.A.D.2300.BEIDESU/NANASINO GONBEIDESU/NANASINO GONBEIDESU/NANASINO GONBEIDESU.THE END

First, the text, The End. 'The End' does appear at the end of the credits, but as a large golden graphic, not as plain text as the rest of this. Immediately after we have text for 65m, 600 AD, and 2300 AD. Why are there era names here, and why only three? The next part may answer it: 2300 AD overwrites halfway into NANASHINO GONBEIDESU ('nameless' in Japanese). The nanashi's continue, ending with a similar THE END. Most likely, the era names were held over from an earlier version that used that text somewhere, possibly in the credits (remember that in the Epoch ending, scenes from 65m [Kino & Ayla on dactyls], 2300 AD [good future with Robo and Atropos], and 600 AD [Leene and Frog/Glenn]). Purely conjecture here, but perhaps originally when these scenes were shown, this text displayed to show the era. If that's the case as well, then maybe the original scene order was 65m -> 600 AD -> 2300 AD, instead of ending in 600 like in the final. Well, I like the way the final turned out. =) The 'nanashi no gonbei desu' phrases were probably place holders for the future names of playtesters and such for the credits. This text does not appear in the prerelease.

Edit: The enemy names are full of good stuff which Ryoga has translated and visually documented, so release won't be tonight. I have to add this stuff to the encyclopedia.

I don't know where to get a copy of pretweaker, but you could do it manually.
Speaking of pre-release >_>
Open it up in any hex editor, and go to offset 3AC305.
It should read as 92.
It modifies the Gato event in the millenial fair, more specifically, what monster loads into the room.
That was a headered offset, so 3AC105.

Some of the lines marked "PRETRANSLATE" actually do exist in the final.
The ones at the start of the Blackbird block exist in the "JP $370000 / US $370000" block in the final.
" こんな未来なんか変えちゃおうよ!" has a translation from Paul Jensen.

Perhaps this is not the right place to ask, but in the script, there are some strange characters, for example:

TOMA XIII: Ancient scrolls tell us that if
you combine the Rainbow Sell with a
Sun Stone, you can make a fearsome
   weapon!

The "Shell" is sorta strange, or perhaps it is just because I'm using the wrong encoding?

I'm willing to bet that's referring to Lavos, which can be considered a big stone falling out of the sky. Although it sounds closer to that "icky rock" thing, so maybe we should compare the Japanese referred to each....

Of course, we must remember that the pre-release is an earlier version.
For example, the people of Medina aren't mostly friendly to humans in the final.
Title: Re: Interesting Pre script discoveries...

Yeah, I should say that... please, please remember that many things were cut for a reason, not only space constraints or unnecessary dialogue but because they didn't fit in with the story or didn't make sense.

The only thing you can consider canon is the story as you have it, in the released version. Everything else is how the game was going to be, once upon a time.

Thanks. I searched for the line about "Something drifting by / Zeal's Ocean Palace? No..." but it's not in the End of Time, so it must be from an earlier stage of development. I strongly guess that it's the appearance of Lucca's Gate, which does seem to be outside the End of Time, as if passing by and Gaspar noticed it.

Edit: Can't find "It's unfortunate, but we can't let you play herein this version." anywhere in the End of Time or Arris Dome. I'm guessing it was a message that'd display if you tried to activate a certain Gate upon arriving to the End of Time. I'll venture that since the player could have played through 1000 A.D., 600 A.D., and 2300 A.D. by that point, it was probably the Gate to 65,000,000 B.C. (maybe the overworld wasn't finished).

The " きおくのかがみ " item (Mirror of Memories) corresponds with the description "Escape"

This turns out to be a menu consumable (like Shelter) instead of a battle item.  When activated in a location, the party is warped back to the overworld map at the exit that was last used.

You can try changing the Consumable and Key Items effect byte of a consumable (tonic, shelter, etc.) to see if the warp effect is still there.  I only looked at the menu check, and that piece of code described above got deleted in the final version.

Missed in the spreadsheet. Said by the Algetty man before he begins his story on the magical kingdom of Zeal. Perhaps preparing to speak.

   Threw away soon.

Compare stone / rock in these to see if these lines are talking about the same thing, and see if the Laruba line stone can in any way be correlated with the "Red Star" of Lavos.

Yes, "strange stone" and "weird rock" are the same words (へんな石) in Japanese, so you can change one to match the other, it doesn't matter which.

Lucca: We can't let you go

I don't like the idea of skipping out on owing

http://www.csse.monash.edu.au/~jwb/cgi-bin/wwwjdic.cgi?1F says:
世話になる 【せわになる】 (exp) (See お世話になる) to receive favor (favour); to be much obliged to someone; to be indebted

I seem to have misunderstood this as "getting along well with someone" when I heard it in the past, but the dictionary definition and subsequent explanation from a friend shows that I made a mistake. My apologies!

Unlikely, but is there any romantic tinge to Lucca's "I've grown to like you......"?

But……

Today ends here. You've been going for a long time.
Please debug other places, Cro.

Mesu4

Any guess to what Mesu4 means is welcome (not necessarily from Glitter, I mean).

I wasn't sure, I was hoping that would call up something from the minds of the more technically oriented as I haven't seen it as part of debug text before.

召す 【めす】 (v5s,vt) (1) to call; to send for; (2) to put on; to wear; to take (a bath); to ride in; to buy; to eat; to drink; to catch (a cold);

However, "call" or "send for" could be promising?

 老人「フフ、そう言われた事も

   何せここは、時の最果てだからね。[END]

Old Man: Fu fu… I feel as though I've been called that
   before……
This is the Brink of Time, you see.

What exactly does he intend to say by reminding them that they're at the End of Time? Is he merely talking about his origin?

何せ = at any rate
ここは = here (is)
時の最果て = The Brink of Time
だから = so/therefore
ね = isn't it? (particle seeking and anticipating listeners' agreement)

"At any rate, it's because this place is the Brink of Time, isn't it," would be very literal...

I assume it implies that he's heard that because everything that ever happened before happened in the past (as they're at the Brink of Time). Does that make any sense?

Old Man: Oi, you there.
   Did you see it too?
Just now, a dark silhouette, aimlessly
   drifting by……

I wonder what it could be?
I feel as though I've seen it before…...
   Zeal's Ocean Floor Palace……?
   No, something different……

I thought this was his recognizing the Prophet, but after Glitter's translation, it seems that came earlier. This is a totally unique line. Is he talking about the appearance of the Black Omen? Or the opening of Lucca's 990 A.D. Gate?

It's unfortunate, but we can't let you play here

Where is this said, if it's possible to find? Glitter's note: "This debug message looks like it was written by someone else; they spelled "version" differently." It comes at the end of the End of Time dialogue, and after the line from Lucca about a console opening a passageway (which is in the final...Arris Dome, I think?)

The " きおくのかがみ " item (Mirror of Memories) corresponds with the description "Escape", so if anyone's feeling adventurous, hack it into inventory in the Prerelease and try to use it for that purpose in battle and boss battle.

Here's something from Lorenz:

Quote from: Lorenz
Also, one more thing, I was reading the CT Prelease translation thing and noticed that there is a part of text in the End of Time that you have described as a mystery.  The part whre the old guy is talking about seeing some black shape and asking the kids about it.  There is some speculation about it being Lucca's time warp, etc..  Anwyay, I read over the Japanese and he is absolutely talking about the emergence of the Black Dream.  Also, he is not saying "just now" he is saying "konoaida" which means an undiclosed time in the not so distant past.  He is not talking about something he just saw seconds ago; he is talking about a little while back when the Black Dream rose from the depths.  That's why he menitons the Underwater Palace, too.  Anyway, just wanted to clear that part up.

End of Time Party Lines

It seems several unique "take me along?" lines existed for the parts of the game where Crono was required to be in the party:
Actually, these lines appear when you talk to Crono in the End of Time.
I feel like elaborating on this comment of mine from years ago.
As you probably already know, in the final, you get a prompt instead of dialogue when you talk to Crono in the End of Time, since he's a silent protagonist. The pre-release doesn't do that. Instead, it flips the role of party leader and reserve member: The party leader asks Crono to join them, and the player gets to choose how Crono responds. That's what those lines are for. So they're for when Crono is out of the party, not the pre-Ocean Palace when he's always in it.
It's too bad it doesn't work well with how the final behaves when making decisions. It'd look strange if an active PC asks a question yet they're the one thinking over the question.
