Title: best areas in gaming
Post by: Sora on November 26, 2007, 10:07:55 pm
okay, tell me what the best areas in gaming are and why

Lost Woods/Sacred Forest Meadow - Zelda OoT
well, lost woods was a forest maze, and those are always cool. and SFM was a secret area at the end that was really beautiful. the atmosphere and music were great!, though i wish it had the fog from ALTTPs lost woods.

Dead Sea - Chrono Cross
its so mistryous, the frozen water was cool. the fact it was very sci fi was nice, and i liked the music. the highway area was cool.

Sea Side Area - PSO
well, its just a really beautiful beach >x<

Dark City - World that never was - Kingdom Hearts 2
it was a dark city that had neon signs and shadows that attacked you.

also, anyone notice a paddern in what i like, or know any areas i would like?

protip: the world that never was IS the city. it's just one name.  the city continues on forever.

Yup. Shame too, as I would have said that Norfair (Metroid Series) was one of the best gaming areas ever. Cool name, random bubbles everywhere (in the original at least), home of Ridley, and it has almost necessitated a "fire" area is every subsequent game of the series.

I am also found of the Temple of Fiends from the original Final Fantasy... but mostly because of the hilarious take on it presented in 8-Bit Theatre.

Anyways: I'd always liked Tower of Gheddon and Black Omen. I dunno, it always has this.... uniqueness about them.

FF4 Lunar Core / Lunar Subterrane - Quite simply the best area ever.  Back in 1990/1991 walking on a crystal floor with the Moon's core in the background was simply breathtaking.

The Brothel for Slaking Intellectual Lusts from Planescape: Tormant. The lower floor prerendered background was a artistic master peice. The dialog with the prositutes was equaly well done, especaly Yves the Tale Chaser.

I always loved that place. So damn cool for a final dungeon.

I'd have to say Sylx Tower from Final Fantasy III is cool as well.

Best areas in Gaming eh?

The entire planet of Zebes - Super Metroid. No one area of this game can hold this title without being attached to the others, so they all come in as one big pack. Maridia might have been it otherwise, though.

Outer wall - Cave Story. The fusion of the windy moonlit environment and the music works very well. A climb towards the top of the island.

Any night stage, Super Mario Bros./Super Mario Bros. 2J. I really don't know why, but I always wanted to visit these places.

Hell yeah, especially with the Mario All Stars SNES graphics. Those night stages are beautiful.

I also find the "Gardens of The Kadeshi" in Homeworld to be a wonder in them selfs.

My sentiments exactly! Moreso than the NES version, I'd like to see the SNES version of it. Those Diamondy stars, that beautiful indigo black gradient, and those clouds in the background on the horizon look absolutely amazing. I actually drew an imaginary landscape that was inspired by those All-stars backgrounds.

Oh man, the Lunar Subterranean is awesome!  When I was a kid, it was breathtaking.  Still is.  :)

The Macalania Woods and the frozen lake and temple beyond (Final Fantasy X and X2) always took my breath away.  If I could visit one place I've seen in a video game, it would be there.  Simply beautiful.

Zeal is a very close second on my list.  If I could visit a second video game world?  The floating Kingdom of Zeal would be it.

Ah yes, the night stages in SMB! I loved those, too.

I always loved the Frontier Village of Dali from FFIX. It's so calming, the sound of the windmills and the music is a perfect change from the bout of trouble you had just encountered prior to visiting the village. The Crystal World and Terra are pretty epic.

Stone Tower in The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask is pretty damn amazing. The fact that it's an entire dungeon you have to finish in two breathtakingly surreal parts - the second being when you flip the freaking world upside down - is amazing.

The Zanarkand Ruins in FFX are epic. The music is so emotional and fitting, especially as it plays through battles as well as the field. The place has Pyreflies floating everywhere, the scenery is amazing... Gah, it's so beautiful! Too bad X-2 killed the 'ancient' feel of the area by turning it into a tourist attraction...

And of course, I love Zeal from Chrono Trigger, as well as Singing Mountain (what we see of it, anyway).

X-2 killed everything good about X.

Yeah, I'd be inclined to say, "Anywhere Samus set (her 2D) foot", myself. Whether it's the Space Pirates hideout planet Zebes, the Metroid homeworld SR388, or the BSL space station...It might have been the enemies, but they're part of the setting, I think, but either way it was always cool.

I actually feel similar to another oldschool Sci-Fi series, this one in the style of shooter, Gradius.

But I think it's all too easy to give props to Chrono Trigger...How can you not love the End of Time?

If you get into Gradius, I have to add the Volcano zone of Salamander (Life Force on the NES). I have a strong love for Konami's flagship shooter series and Salamander, especially this vertical stage. Song is one of my favorite pieces in the series.

I liked Madain Sari, the Eidolon Wall i guess. But I could live forever in Chocobo's Paradise (or whatever the name is, where fat chocobo resides).

Yeah. I love FFIX. Conde Petie's quirky, bright, and has a nice theme song to go with it. I liked that place too.

Burmecia has a certain majestic air about it in how it's presented. The rain, the dark atmosphere, and the numbers of Burmecian soldiers who stayed behind to fight the good fight and ensure their king's escape is admirable. Very cool.

Lindblum is the pinnacle of a 'cool town' in RPGs.

Oh yes, indeed, Burmecia, the city where rain never stops, i like it, it has some characteristic similar to my city, after all, Manizales its called the city with a a hollow space in heaven. 7/8 of the year, it rains every single day. Yeah, i like Burmecia, jajajaja.

Now that I've played through Prophet's Guile, I must say that the part where Magus escorts (SPOILER) to his imprisonment is one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had. The mood, the music, the task of preventing (SPOILER) from perishing under constant withering attacks -- it was all breathtaking. Super-duper kudos to Chrono'99 on the coding of that event and Zeality for choosing the music that went with it. Classic gaming perfection; Square couldn't have done better.

The Unknown Dungeon from Pokemon Red/Blue. I caught a level 72 Gengar. Awesome shit.

The field of white flowers where you fight The Boss in MGS3. A perfect setting for an amazing conclusion; and when you shoot her and they all turn red? Delicious.

The entirety of Princess Peach's Castle from Super Mario 64. It was almost eerie, considering you were the only one it in (except for the seemingly paralyzed Toads), and how it held so many secrets...

yay for reviving 5 month old threads.

The City of Burg and the grave of Dragonmaster Dyne in Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete.

Ever since that game I've loved idealistic towns (and hurray for the lead character having both parents; and not only both parents still alive, but for them being ordinary and uncool)...  Plus, the way it all looked...  Aw hell, here's a screenshot of the gravesite.
