Title: Things we want in this new Chrono Trigger
Post by: ZealKnight on July 07, 2008, 03:17:18 pm
I know we all want to see the great game ported with no flaws, but wouldn't we want some new stuff too. The main things I want are a new final weapon for Magus and Marle perhaps being part of a new sidequest. More connections to Chrono Cross and the after. The correct translation. But most importantly the new techs I want.

For Crono I want two new ones.
One physical one where he launches sonic boom like slashes at the opponent about 5 or 6 of them each doing there own damage.

The other should be a thunder elemental one that does thunder damage to all enemies.

Marle I want three.
One that does major Ice damage to all enemies.

Another one that heals the whole party about 600 or 700 hp.

The last should be haste 2 which is basically haste on everyone or it could just last longer.

Lucca I want two
Protect 2 which is basically protect on everyone or it could just last longer.

Another one where she shoots a laser at one enemy which could either cause death or a ton of damage.

Frog I want three
One that causes major water damage to all enemies.

Heal 2 which recovers the whole party to full hp but uses 50mp

The Last should be some type of physical technique. Like he throws his sword in the air then he brings it down for a quick slash then throw it back in the air jumps up kicks it to the center of the screen on the floor the land on it causing a force to go through the ground and cause damage to everyone. Or perhaps he throws his sword into the air then grabs it with his tongue and slashes all enemies with it.

Robo I want two
A laser attack that does major shadow damage to all enemies kinda like StrongArm.

The other would be like a combo of a punch and a laser. He punches an enemy and then he unleashes a laser at them.

Ayla I want one
Grand Stone yeah I know it's Lavos's but I've always wanted to use his attacks. She lifts the stone the tosses it a little into the air then kicks it towards the enemies.

Magus I want a couple
First Dark Nuke which is a bigger stronger version of dark bomb.

Second Magic Wall 2 which is basically magic wall on everyone or it could just last longer.

Next Gyser would be awesome to have at your disposal.

Maybe he could have Water 2.

The last one should be the attack he uses on lavos before chrono dies. You know he slashes with his scythe then a blue appears coming out of the cut behind the enemy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snZM2FE5pjo its in that video at 2:12.

Well this is more of post any type of idea kind of thing. And like go into as much detail as you want and like what you would think would be awesome not so much a poll as a lets take all our ideas and put them into one.

idk...Sounds the exact same to me...I mean, Tact's has an Other option as well and people were using it and just posting w/e they wanted to see in that thread...I won't close this one unless a couple other people agree or something, but it doesn't seem necessary...

Personally, idk how much I want them monkeying w/the Techs...Everything's pretty well balanced as-is...And I like Magus' final weapon, it's suiting and even works well with his loner character.

You're kidding, right? SE's already announced the 3 exclusive XBOX titles they're developing: Star Ocean 4, Infinite Undiscovery, & Last Remnant (two of which are only going to be only timed exclusives)...I seriously doubt they'd throw XBOX such a huge extra bone as the relaunch of the Chrono series...>_>

I want people to buy it. Twice.

I already told my future wife (wedding on July 19th, woot woot) to expect us getting a DS soon.  She's down for it.

Yeah, sure, why not? The DS has a great lineup (& is only getting better & better) besides CT DS. I'm pretty sure it's the current console w/the most FFs & DQ titles (planned anyways)...add to that CT DS and you've got a RPG series juggernaut console in your hands...!

Just to name a few DS games I would like to play on the top of my head:

New Super Mario Brothers
Super Mario 64 DS
The Super Mario RPG where they "time travel"
FFXII: Revenant Wings
Children of Mana
Heroes of Mana
Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass

And that's just at the top of my head.  There are bound to be more.  Plus, Brittany (the future Mrs.) loves the Mama Mia Cooking games, so there's too for her right there...

That'd be "Mario & Luigi: Partners In Time", great addition to the Mario RPG series.

I'd only suggest playing Revenant Wings & Heroes of Mana if you're up for an RTS experience. Neither is like any of the previous incarnations of the series they belong to.

I'd go with Trauma Center: Under the Knife (one of the best uses of the DS's tech) and the FF & DS remakes coming out...Although I'm also looking forward to Kirby Superstar Ultra, LEGO Batman & Tecmo Bowl: Kickoff games coming out...among others...

Kirby Superstar Ultra?  Holy shitake mushrooms!

Green Gardens, Yogurt Yard, here I come!

(I'm a sucker for the Kirby series - gotsta love the music)

What do I want in the new Chrono Trigger? Hmm...

Oh, I know! A coupon that gives you $125 off a DS. Either that or a port to a system I actually own. Like PS2. Or GameCube. Or NES.

Seriously, though, Chrono Trigger is fine the way it is for me. I just want the bloody system!

Anyone here into Phoenix Wright?

I am, in spite of the fact I've only played it once at a friends house. I just love how you can yell out "OBJECTION!" whenever you want.

Well, he did talk in the slideshow ending...but I guess one line can be seen as not enough.

The only thing I want out of this game is for the new dungeon to be integrated into the storyline and not some bonus dungeon that lacks any type of coherence possible. I think I'm referring to FFVIA's dragon's den here, but I'm sure you all get my point.

Other than that, I just want my favorite game without the need of a TV, my SNES, and a grounded power source.

Well I would be fine with the dungeon having something to do with a sidequest, but they need to make it have a large impact instead of nothing much, kinda like robo's home. Not much was affected by it since it was 2300 AD.

I was really wanted a whole 3D graphical makeover.  But that aside, I would like more areas to be able to explore.  Some time periods just don't have many places to visit, which was a bummer.  A few more character techniques also wouldn't hurt. :)

I'd love more weapons, more dungeons, a superboss or two, or even a new party member would be sweet.

For CT:DS...  I want...(sorry I like listing)

1. New weapons/armor
2. The new dungeon to be HUGE
3. At least one superboss in the new dungeon
4. A harder version of Lavos (or a Lv ** version)
5. I guess it would be kinda cool to have a sidequest where you use epoch and it malfunctions and sends you
to a different time (like 125,000BC or something) and wherever you "crash" is the new dungeon
6. a new ending
7. some new reference to the Fall of Guardia
8. 1 or 2 new Triple Techs

*Back from the dead*

What I want:
I want the "New Dungeon" to be Singing Mountain, with the beta triceratops enemy being found their. Mabye a few more of the beta area could be added, like that colosium thing in The Future and to top it all off a completely-original dugeon that is so challangeing it makes the Black Omen look like something more fit for Elmo's ABC's and 123's for Gameboy Color.
Title: Re: Things we want in this new Chrono Trigger
Post by: ogh on July 09, 2008, 01:55:50 pm
What I want for CTDS is... The dungeons from the beta, a new 3D graphics (like they did on FFIV Remake), remasterizations (not sure about this term, damn english) of the original musics, but not remakes (The SNES sounds channels are so poor... Mitsuda made a miraculous job!), and Schala as an extra party member will be a dream...

Oh, and maybe this new dungeon could be one in 1999, before you fight Lavos... Full of enemies and Lavos' Spawns with "Lavos attacks modes", and the "first form" of Lavos could be the one that we fight when Crono dies...

I'm more prone to seeing a superdungeon in 12000 BC, for some reason. It would erupt from the ground after the fall of Zeal and Mt. Woe, along with the destruction of the Ocean Palace.

im wondering that, if they dont add those playstation cutscenes, are they going to add a new snes-like ending about the fall of guardia?

What I was getting at was I do not want to see another port of CT, I want a sequel.  But you said it best, regarding Capcom though.  Square is doing the same thing basically, re-releasing the same games again and again.  Sure most may be in 3-D, but really?  Who the F cares about 3-D?  Not me.  Ugly as fuck.
Title: Re: Things we want in this new Chrono Trigger
Post by: V_Translanka on July 10, 2008, 11:27:30 pm
Yes, but what I was getting at was that you're off-topic. ;)

I don't see them porting CT again as 're-releasing the same game again and again'...It got one seriously fuct port on PSX (two gens ago, btw) and nothing since then. I think a new port, much better done, isn't even close to a bad thing. And, although some may not like it, graphics are a big thing to current gamers...should they be denied the awesomeness that is oldschool games just because they're turned off by the graphics? I don't think so. A graphical upgrade is just a better way of telling the story...either way though, it's not going to make-or-break the game...but if it can garner more attention, I think that's a good idea...

you have to admit, guys, chrono trigger doesn't look bad.  not bad at all.  i mean, the DS could do more, but i'm perfectly fine with a port.

plus, you have to realize that this isn't a direct port.  notice the HP and MP bars?  that's new coding right there.

Yeah, I'm not saying there's anything bad w/just an enhanced port...just that 3D would not only be nice, but possible & still look good. I wish that they'd at least clean up the sprites some maybe, though...idk...But to me anything's good because anything's better than that lame, half-assed PSX port.

you know what I WISH is in the new game?
save states and a speed button!
cause i just realized that without them im probably gonna be alot worse at this game than i thought i was (well i played the playstation version before but i didnt go that far)

and also, i didnt know toriyama didnt do those cutscenes! they looked like his style.. am i missing something here?

BUY IT ANYWAYS!!! At the very least buy a copy for someone you know who owns a DS or something, man! Or just buy a copy so you can hug it at night when you feel afraid that the Chrono series will completely die out...er, what? Is that only me that's going to do that? >_<

Yeah 3D would be nice if the original team did it.

I don't see why that would be necessary...Matrix Software did a great job translating FFIII & FFIV into 3D...>_>

They were done by underlings who copy his style, but you'll notice things off from Toriyama's actual designs: Crono's proportions (which they made more resemble Goku for no good reason) and, my main gripe, Glenn's stupid hair in the new ending.

Actually all the characters in the cutscenes were to look like DBZ characters. Crono to Goku. Lucca to Bulma. Human Glenn to Vegeta.(not kidding look at behind pics of them they are remarkably the same size) Frog Glenn to Ginyu Frog. Ayla to Android 18. Robo, I can't tell but I'm sure he was. Marle you can compare to Chichi but, there are only certain images of Chichi as her constant change through the series.

i noticed that and it really ticked me off. i know theres probably some dragon ball fans here but i personally hate that show and if it were not for the many great character designs of chrono trigger i would probably hate his style altogether. But watching those playstation cutscenes made me feel like he didnt know how to draw anything else other than those characters from dragonball z. so its a relief he didnt really do it.
i personally am more of a fan of the art style from cross. the cutscenes were beautiful imo.

Okay, any of these would be awesome. I don't expect some of these, and all of them are very unrealistic. However, probability dictates that the more wishes I have, the more likely it is that some of them will come true!
New attacks (Like more lasers for Robo)
Double Techs for Magus (even if it's just with Crono)
New Character *
New Game Plus advancement**
New items, especially for Magus
Correction of a few translation errors, most importantly the whole "Step-brother" thing.
A completed map of Apocalypse. That way, maybe the dungeon could be in 1999! :D
A remastering of music, but the ability to switch between the old style and the new. While I would like some music to be more clear, all of the music are absolutely PERFECT! There is no soundtrack in any game that matches Chrono Trigger. If they botch it up in the remastering, however, I'd like the ability to play the old version.
A retcon about the deaths of the main characters in Radical Dreamers/Chrono Cross. Don't get me wrong, I love Crono Cross, but Lucca, Robo and Crono are some of the best characters in video game history! I don't want to have the heroes that saved the world to die anti-climatically after so much hard work. (Of course, this is assuming that Crono died in the Guardia overthrow, that Lucca was killed by the much less powerful Lynx and that the Prometheus circuit is Robo, and also that Robo wasn't time-cloned when he was sent back into the future)

*Possibly Schala, although isn't she supposed to be less powerful than Magus? Other good includable characters could be Johnny (lol), a reptite or a Nu.
**Let me explain. I would like a Chrono Cross-like ability to switch in characters I don't have yet. This would have no effect on the story, but I'd be able to use Magus on earlier bosses without cheats. Including Magus. Awesome.

Well seeing as how that's what they did with the CT port on the PS1...

Also, they didn't announce Chrono Cross until THE DAY BEFORE Legend of Mana shipped (CC came packaged as a demo) - and they successfully kept it a secret until then.  Who's not to say they aren't planning something now?
